It doesn’t even feel like it’s been out as long as it has. I feel like it came out just last week and yet has always been around. How is such a game that makes me feel such familiarity possible?
Some people like to hate and say it's not that great, but I say who needs 'em. I'm glad to live in a time when Undertale came out and got so much acclaim for its genuine heart and the talent behind it.
Undertale is so strange-feeling to me because it feels like it was MEANT to exist. Know what I mean? It feels like it has changed the world and popular culture and the lives of so many people in such a big way...it feels like something the universe had always had in it but waited until 2015 to give us. Like it came into our world at exactly the right time to make an impact on those who needed something like Undertale the most. Thanks Toby Fox. :)
I don't understand how a song to a game can make you feel so nostalgic to things not even related to the game at all... In 20 years, if someone played this song to me I think I would cry.
Yeah, I know. When I heard his theme for the first time, I didn't even play undertale and didn't know that's where it was, but I immediately felt a sort of way and kept searching to find it, because it was that amazing.

man when this game came out i was in what, eighth grade? now i’m about to go off to college, graduating high school in a few months... how time flies. edit (10/13/20): i'm pretty far into my first semester of college now, never ended up graduating in person because of the pandemic and am still stuck learning from home. it's been a rough year, but at least it's almost over. i can't reply to all of you individually but it's so neat how this game can bring so many people from different age groups and backgrounds together. thank you so much for the well wishes! i hope you're all doing well in spite of all that's going on in the world and please remember, stay determined!
Holy shit like what? 2015? I was. Moving into year 8 (grade 7?) I was so scared about school, now im passed, in sixth form and taking A-Levels, holy shit time flies too fast.... Makes you realise to spend time while you still have it

It felt like the fandom was really just holding hands. It offered a small amount of solace, like cocoa on a cold day. And then the creators came and venerated the story, the characters. Creators like Gaelrice, who humanized Undyne further The remixes, the music, the fan art. Undertale really is a one of a kind type of game. For a brief moment, this game changed everything. God I miss it.
I feel you. It was the one thing that brought hope to my heart that desired deeper games. Games that are actual art in themselves and bring a new perspective, entirely. Games that touch you more than any game has ever managed to.
At first, I didn't like Undertale. I thought it to be "just another RPG" but boy was I wrong. I quickly got into it after my first playthrough, watching let's plays, animations, and music videos all over the place and it consumed me for a while. Nowadays Undertale is something I try to get out of my daily system to not mention or reference it every few minutes however I fail at that very often and just let my appreciation for the game seep out. I made friends thanks to this game and got this game a few more friends. I truly marvel at how much this game has impacted my life and my view of gaming and games. Undertale isn't gone, it's with you as long as you want to so you don't have to miss it. Thanks for making me dwell in sweet memories once again and sorry for my rambling, unlike a few other times, this time I will not just delete this comment ^^

I have severe anxiety disorder. Undertale was the first thing that made me forget that and just live the moment. For the first time in my life I felt I was alive and felt like I matter. For the first time I truly smiled without feeling uneasy. When I showed it to my school friends, they laughed me off, while my fandom friends have always been there. I always wonder if the same fate that happened to Chara met me if I didn't find this game. This experience made me wanna stay determined. Determined to the day, when being me without all this anxiousness will become my reality.

I remember when the Undertale community was really toxic. It made so much awfull stuff that I left it entirely, but I refused to let go of the game. I'm glad I did. Because when all of the toxic people left only the real fans remain. And when everything became quiet I also returned. Nobody in the comments is arguing; no one is rude; everyone just wants to express how gratefull they are for Undertale's existance. We may not even know each other but I want you to know that I love you anyway.
I've played undertale so many times, and this game, man. It makes me feel a certain way, and listening to this just brings it all back. Undertale means a lot to me.
Undertale has been such an incredibly large part of my life, and has taught me many important lessons like staying determined to meet your end goal no matter what. It's brought me plenty of laughs, tears, and happiness, the wonderful characters all impacting me in certain ways, how they're all so different yet each holds a special place in my heart. I remember at the end of my first pacifist run, I burst into tears because I thought my journey was 'finally over'. How wrong I was, I finally brought myself to reset and did a pacifist run again, over and over, until I started getting bored, and I decided to try genocide, which stemmed into constant cycles of me doing it, and me enjoying it more than the heartwarming pacifist run, although I would do pacifist runs in between. I let go of the game for a year or two, after being completely obsessed with it for a whole year, in total having more than 300 hours on the game. I've come back to it in recent months, and decided to try and undo my sin on the monsters world, completing a pacifist run, but then continued my cycle. I finished another genocide run today (me giving an example to my friend on how to do true genocide, and deciding to follow through) but after hearing this, I want to finish pacifist twice more (so I can get the lil' demon out of my game - like how in the end scene of pacifist where Toriel comes into your room on the surface and brings you pie, but if you do this after genocide Chara winks at you.) Then, I will finally leave this game alone, allowing them to truly get the happy ending they deserve. I want the best for the characters that have had such an impact on my life, and would like to thank Toby Fox for this incredible game. I love you Undertale, forever and always. :)
Yeah, when Libby showed me how to do the genocide I found it so much fun, yet it taught me something. It's your choice whether or not you want to do the good or bad thing. Just because you 'can' doesn't mean you 'have to'. When you do go genocide, you learn that because of your bad decisions, you're feared. Not only that, but more obstacles come into view such as Undyne the Undying and the sans fight. Meanwhile when you go pacifist, everything seems easier and boring. You make more friends and get treated more like an equal (I had a hard time pressing q). However, more smaller difficulties, such as extended fights like the Mettaton fight, occur. It generally lasts longer, and when the time comes you don't want to leave your group of friends. It's almost like when you go pacifist your journey is longer and somewhat memorable, and it's harder to complete multiple times without getting bored like you mentioned. Genocide really makes you feel like you're disconnected from everybody, that if you're going to be in this world you're better off without anyone. It's more interesting (stupid hotlands, make me kill 40 monsters-) and depressing, if not creepy. You affect areas and people, the message "But nobody came" meaning that you've cut off and shut down any possible interaction with the monsters. Yesterday, with the help of Libby, I was able to defeat the OP Undyne after taking so long to figure out how to finish her. I kept getting so close, though that only fueled my determination even more, and now i'm suffering at the sans fight, though i'm so excited to finish the fight. So, after all that being said, thank you, Toby Fox, for showing us actions comes with consequences. Though I believe they're multiple hidden messages throughout your journey, i'm really only stating the obvious.

When I heard this song, I remember the day that my daughter was born. I just see myself sitting in a hospital room, multicolored lights emitting from hidden LED lights and the mixture of excitement and fear for my daughter. I was excited to be her father, her dad... but I always wondered if I was ever going to be enough for her, and thankfully to this day, she can say that she loves me... Whenever I hear this song I think of her and I cry. All of the time that we've spent together, the times we went to parks, or when we'd go out to eat, it all stuck out to me in the most painful way, but one can only push forward as best as they can and accept this new reality that they have placed for themselves. I just hope she's doing okay wherever she is.

There are only 3 games that make me feel this way: Undertale. This helped me get a friend I still have today. Minecraft. I have been playing this for almost 7 years now. Terraria. Same story, helped me get multiple friends and also been playing for 6 years.

* Honestly, undertale is the first game to get my to cry. It’s a magical experience that I can’t believe a human even made. I felt like I was the character’s friends, and I couldn’t even get past Snowdin in the genocide route.
Undertale had a profound effect on me as a person; it changed how I viewed morality, video games, and entertainment as a medium. I could not name a game that has a had a bigger impact on me as a person than this game. I really hope deltarune can aspire to the same level, I want to feel the same feelings I felt during undertale again, mainly because I've never felt that way before.

Video games had become dull and meaningless to me for the longest time, til I played Undertale for the first time a few months ago. I`ve never felt such an emotional connection with fictional characters in my life.
This game changed my life. It helped me to see things in a different light, see the SOULs of people around me. It helped me choose right from wrong, evil from good. It helped me make friends and laugh a little more. This story is more than we realize. When we take it apart, we see the truth of what this simple game has to offer: choice. To have and give love, not LOVE. To lead others through our Barrier of light and understanding, just like we did for so many Monsters before.
I was never much of a video game fan until I saw Jacksepticeye play Undertale. I begged my dad to buy the game for me and I played it on my own. I cried. This game made me realize how powerful video games can be and how my love for great storytelling can carry into medias I had never gave a chance. I remember how I drew Sans and Papyrus on all of my homework and wrote skeleton puns on my hands in class. I made butterscotch cinnamon pie even though I absolutely suck at baking and even though I made it wrong, it didn't stay together, and the crust was kinda burnt, it made me so incredibly happy. I hummed the soundtrack to myself daily and even dressed as Sans for a comic con. I would see yellow dandelions and the thought would cross my mind, "What if it just started talking?" Undertale inspired me in so many ways and changed my way of seeing the world. I rarely think of Undertale these days, but I think it made me a lot more forgiving than I used to be. I definitely still make up skeleton puns around Halloween and remember first seeing Sans. I have a much greater appreciation for spaghetti, crosswords, and the crinkling of autumn leaves. The music though. One bar of Undertale or Memory and I get chills. Every detail of the story and my old obsession comes back. I remember how much Undertale did for me. It brought me so much joy and made me appreciate the small things in life, a secret hope that doing so would give me the strength to stay determined and face the day. I have to play it again. I'm going to play it again.
Ah I have a similar story! I found Undertale through Jacksepticeye, I usually watched his playthroughs because I was too young to buy games for myself but still wanted to experience them. Undertale was different. I stopped watching his playthrough after the first episode (he made it out of the ruins and to the first checkpoint in snowdin) and I knew this game was the kind of gold I just had to play for myself. And so Undertale became the first game I ever purchased, my parents helped me download and navigate Steam just so I could install Undertale. It started a long line of indie game explorations for me, and an undying love for Toby Fox games. It helped me through tough times, and I think even made me a better person. Thanks Toby
i can’t believe undertale is going to be 5. i remember stumbling upon it as a 11 year old and not thinking much of it until my cousin told me about more of the characters, and instantly, i was hooked. i have so many amazing memories from being submerged in the undertale fandom for the 2 years that i was. I made my own cosplay (and revamped it a year later!) and i was proud of my own creations for once. i remember walking into school in 7th grade with my revamped MTT cosplay and feeing so free. so happy. so confident. i remember making so much fanart of undertale, my pink walls were covered in more pink (seriously the amount of mettaton fanart i made was so crazy-) the whole aspect of having a comfort character never hit me really until i got into undertale. i had at least 5 characters that, if i was feeling down, i could look up on tumblr and i’d cheer up. i made so many friends in the fandom, and i have so many amazing memories. thank you undertale. ❤️
I didn't care much for Mettaton at first, but now, he's my favorite character in the game. I just love his flamboyant personality, he's so care free and fabulous in general.
This game is just amazing. Everything about it is just... I don’t know. Growing up with this game the past five years has been such a cool experience. It has taught me to get out of my comfort zone. To not be afraid. But most importantly, to stay determined. This game honestly has blessed us all. And I think Toby and Temmie did an amazing job. :)
i remember one rainy day when i was 13 years old i was just sitting on a stairs in front of the school watching the raindrops and listening to a sounds of rain i was afraid, i still don't know why maby becouse i was all alone no one liked me and nothing really mattered to me , i was thinking that i won't find a frieds then sudennly someone pat me in my shoulder i turned back and saw a girl from my class no one liked her either just becouse she was a little fater than the other girls, she was smiling to me and asked if she could sit next to me then i realized that i already got a friend it was one of the best days of my life, now im 20 years old i got a girlfriend that i want to live with and a small group of friends consisting of 5 peoples but not those fake friends but true friends sorry for my english and thanks for reading this ;D love ya guys

I read through all these comments and I wonder: "how did it take me so long to find out about Undertale, this might have had a much bigger impact on my life if I had discovered it earlier" I only discovered Undertale in April of last year through a friend showing me the music, and it took me a while to actually get into the game. Once I did, I fell in love with not just the music, but the characters and story too. I'm not that emotional of a person irl, but I will admit that I cried twice during the game: when the monsters told the story of Asriel and how they hoped to be free, and the comforting scene at the end of Pacifist (and this was watching a playthrough because I couldn't play the game). I'm a senior in high school, and what I've told a lot of my friends is that this game gave me a sense of identity; I didn't know where I fit in until I discovered this game and not only became closer with the friends I had but I also made new ones, which for me is huge. I wish that I had discovered this game back 4 or 5 years prior when it was more popular and not just known for its memes, because maybe I would have formed the identity I made now earlier, and maybe I might not have dealt with depression for as long as I have. On the other hand, maybe it's better that I didn't, because going through all of that made me stronger, and if I hadn't of gone through those experiences I probably wouldn't be the same person I am today, nor would I have been able to relate to and help some of my friends who have also dealt with depression and anxiety as I have. Eventually my friend who owns a Switch got the game so that I could play it because he knew just how much I wanted to, and I was able to live out the experience and show it to my friends as well, and I almost cried again at the comforting scene even though I already knew exactly what was happening lol. This game is something that already has and will continue to have a lasting impact on my life, and I am grateful to Toby for bringing this into existence for the world to experience, I can hope that this game continues to do the same thing for others that it did for me, and that Deltarune (whenever it fully releases) can remind all of us of the feelings we felt with Undertale. Hi! I don't know if you'll read this but we're the same age! I discovered Undertale in 2018, 3 years after it was released. The hype was pretty much over but I watched pretty much every video out there about it because I ended up loving it so much. I even wrote about it for my senior thesis a couple of weeks ago. I actually think that it's better that you discovered Undertale when it was less popular so you could take your own lessons from it and experience it in the way that you needed to. I'm not very eloquent but when I saw your comment I felt this overwhelming desire to let you know that I feel you and I also hope that we can get the same feelings from Deltarune
You.. Remind me of myself. I discovered Undertale in March of last year. I mean, of course, I knew about it before, but its fandom was only talking about Sans and Papyrus. I mean, they were literally everywhere, and it kinda annoyed me. So I really didn't want to know this game better. So, in March I just listened to "Hopes and Dreams" and this was really good! I was curious about this game. So, I watched letsplays about it. And.. Damn, it was so good. I still blame myself I discovered it so late.

Undertale brought me to UA-camrs I enjoy watching. Undertale brought me to friends, Undertale brought me to Glitchtale Undertale brought me to memes. Undertale brought me music, But most importantly, It brought me DETERMINATION. I will always remember Undertale. It's apart of me now. Something will always remind me. I'll be reminded of Frisk when I'm determined. I'll be reminded of Chara when I see a knife. I'll be reminded of Flowey when I feel this is not who I am. Undertale music never fails to make me irrationally emotional. I remember around when undertale first came out, it got me through such an incredibly difficult time in my life. Shortly after deltarune was released, I was also going through a bit of a rough patch. I’d been listening to the deltarune soundtrack to try and cheer myself up, when the song ‘You Can Always Come Home’ (mostly the same as ‘Home’ from UT) came up. Just hearing the song and reading the title made me cry like baby. It really did feel like coming home.
Because... They're gone! Sans, Undyne, everyone! And... I don't know where they are. They're probably... Home. This world isn't mine, and playing some video game doesn't cut it anymore.
I’m not sure why, but this track makes me really nostalgic Maybe it’s because it reminds me of the first time I played Undertale all the way through, or maybe it just reminds me a little bit of my childhood, or maybe a mix of both Whatever it is, this track is still amazing to this day, as well as Undertale itself, and hearing it on vinyl makes it amazing It sometimes makes me wish that I could re experience this whole game all over again I don’t think there will ever be another game like Undertale, for me personally anyways. I remember when Undertale came out during one of my Middle School years. I listened to its music before I actually came to the realization that it was a game. I'd go to the library during my lunch time to listen to Hopes and Dreams and His Theme since those songs really kinda appealed to me at the time. But nothing ever came close to how much I adored Undertale. I lived in a poor family and didn't have very much. But I always managed to make due and live happily with all of my friends around me. I kept going like that. Hardships between friendship, family, and myself always managing to sneak around the corner and jump at me. Growing up and going through high school, I moved on from interest to interest. Undertale seeming to be a distant memory I wouldn't really think all too much about. I ended up making it through all of those years with the same friends I had before. With a large amount of new ones to add in. Gathering to do fun little things at this cafe we had near the school that we walked to, there's one memory I won't forget. It was around Christmas time. We all gathered at the cafe to celebrate my birthday that had passed recently. The cafe had decided to take requests since it was a Friday night and people liked to go there and play card games like Magic and D&D and have their own touch tossed in. It was always fun to fuck around. A rando ended up requesting Undertale. And so it played. We all laughed and had a good time that night. Playing board games, sharing food, and drinking a pretty decent amount of goodies. I have photos from that night with all of my friends in one spot having the best night of their lives. That was 2 years ago. The cafe is now closed and has been replaced by something else. A lot of my friends ended up moving around that year. Now, I sit here. Listening to this in the year of 2020. Already accepted into college and preparing to become an adult to live on my own. I now realize how much this game really meant to me while I grew up. I was never a die-hard fangirl and never shoved my interests in others' faces but. It still serves as a reminder that you can be anybody and still appreciate the little things that this game ended up providing for everybody. We truly don't deserve Undertale.

I miss when undertale was shiny and new to me, it’s my favorite game it has been and always will be, these characters are my friends and it feels like I’ve reunited with them all of my memories returned and I want to go back oh how I want to go back to the best game I’ve ever seen
I still can’t get over the fact that this game has been out for almost 5 years. Listening to this just makes me cry, remembering the times when this game was so popular, getting so much attention and fanart...It was actually one of the first games to make me cry, and care for the characters, and well, it has one of the best video game soundtracks. It took me so long to finally let go and move on from this game. I think that that's the lesson it taught me, though- to find out how to move on. Yes, it showed me how to become a much more well-rounded and accepting person, but I think being able to pull myself from the Undertale fandom when it slowly began to die was one of the most influential things I've ever done. I wouldn't say that I've left the fandom, but rather that I've just continued heading forward. Looking up to the sky instead of down to the Earth, you know? I met most of my friends that I care about because of Undertale. Of course, I've lost contact with a bunch over this period of five years. The ones I have kept have been some of the best I could ever hope for, and not a single day goes by where I don't miss those who I've left behind. I don't think I'd be the person I am today without them or, by extension, this game. I went ahead and joined a sport. I was inspired to further pursue my interests. I got through one of the hardest parts of my life. I loved- and lost. But most importantly, I began to piece together this puzzle that is me. And here, at 8:42 PM on this Friday of Fridays, I was not expecting to make a confession- especially after wrestling practice. Yet, here we are. I just wanted to say thanks. Im growing up in a rural town. With rural schools. There's a charter school here, and a normal, inclusive elementary. I was in the charter school, which had a maximum of 25 kids a class. Nothing ever stayed the same at the school. I had a new princaple every year. We had a small family. But I loved it. It was my place to come home. And there I had plenty of people to talk to. When I was in elementary, this game was everything to me. And what was more disappointing was that nobody I was friends with new what this game was. So I had to introduce it to them. I introduced an entire friend group to a videogame. And we all love it.

I only discovered undertale last year, but this somehow still feels nostalgic. I'm glad I went into the game blind because I don't think the experiance would have been so amazing otherwise. I didn't watch any playthroughs first, I didn't research any of the lore, I didn't look into the game. I just knew some people who said it was good and decided to play it. I never could have imagined the huge fandom behind it or the amount of emotional connection I would feel towards it. I never thought I would cry because of killing a pixelated skeleton and a goat lady. Undertale is a truly unique game.

Undertale is a masterpiece that will forever hold a dear place in my heart, along side my friends and family and all the blessings I've been given. I feel nostalgia for a time I wasn't even born, heck, even for a place I never lived in. I wish my life was different, that I was born somewhere else, maybe even to a different mother, but I would kill to be with my father. I don't understand why UNDERTALE reminds me so much of my father, it's so bittersweet, because I love my old man, but sometimes I think that maybe I haven't spent enough time with him, and I feel sorry for him, well, for me too, having to live with a mother and wife who will never be satisfied with anything, yet, still finding happiness within her and being with her. I just wish I lived in the outskirts of a big town, with surrounding woods, a great big mountain overlooking us. Making fire pits in the summer, enjoying hot tea (or icecream sodas) on the winter, seeing the sunset together, and enjoying the company of my father. I know my father won't see this, he isn't too much of a listener in the gaming music genre, but I fucking love you man, I really wish I could get to hang out with you for longer than we will be able to...
I made a promise at the end of my last pacifist playthrough to never ever play Undertale again, not because I didn't like it, but instead to listen to Flowey, I wanted to let everyone live in peace, let people go, because, well, Flowey said outright that after the game *I* was no longer needed/wanted, so, in return, I was no longer there, I love Undertale, but I will keep my promise, even *almost a year later* so, I will listen to this, and maybe watch a playthrough.
The worst part is that you're decision doesn't matter, Undertale is only a game, and It's trying to make you feel guilty for resetting and playing it again.
I actually wanted to do one more pacifist run, but ended up forgetting about it halfway through it. Somewhere out there, Frisk is just standing there in the middle of Waterfall or someplace, and has probably become a tourist attraction LOL
Oh. As usual, I've something stuck in my eyes. No joke. this theme is so good. and this track just show how powerful these little notes can be. And the story... told by these monster... we spare them' all. and now these show who will not be able to be saved. I don't even know how I've managed to do the other route. u'know... this one where every fragment of this world is destroyed by my endless hunger of content... And Undertale has successed to make me regret this one! This game was genusely good, and deserved his success.
There are some times where people who don’t know the Undertale fandom and say that “oh yeah. that fandom is one of the most toxic fandoms out there!” but in reality these people go through the same struggles as so many other people who don’t even play the game. Some people are even saved by this game. I found this wonderful game through memes (mostly megalovania...) in 2017. I remember I watched Jacksepticeye play it first because I didn’t have enough money digitally to buy the game, but after some *determination* and persuasion I convinced my parents to buy it on steam for me. I’ve played the game more times than I can count but it’s still such an amazing storyline and the soundtrack never gets old. I know every nook and cranny, every secret and hidden thing of the game and, but I still love the enjoyment of making friends during my pacifist runs, and the exciting of the battles during genocide runs. It has taught me that I should never give up even when times are hard and want to quit. I’ve learned to try no matter what.
Whatever old fandom Undertale had might have made that reputation, but because Undertale has a new, better fandom now, I get SO annoyed when people say, "uNdeRtAle hAs oNe oF thE wOrSt fANdoMs oUt tHEre" it's like... no.. no it doesn't, whatever that old fandom was, yeah, but we fans in the new fandom are very visibly less toxic, and we are much more calm and welcoming, you know?

And that's all there is to the game. It's just a lesson, but the gameplay gets tired and old and the storyline is mediocre at worst and alright at best. People overexaggerate the game's beauty when I feel that as complicated as the game's storyline is, it's best when it's left simplistic and not shoving "Genocide is bad" in your face. We get that genocide is bad. You don't have to nail it into our face all the time.

The game brought me a lot closer to some of my other friends too. Yet, this year is my first time actually playing the game. I finally bought it. It's even better than the playthroughs. This game is really something special, and I'm so glad I got into it.
oh, jesus. listening to this... i feel like i’m eleven fucking years old again, all alone in a new school with that one other lonely person who wanted to be my friend. finding undertale just clicked. it was like finding the first pieces that fit together in a puzzle, and i held onto it like an infant holds onto their mother’s finger. it was cringe and gross now that i look back, but then it was perfect. bliss. i remember being a writer for The Adorned Authors on undertale amino and getting my own group of friends and meeting all those people...... i miss them so much but i know why we all parted ways: it’s the way we grow up. things and people come and go and we have to go with them, but not always in the same direction. thank you, undertale, for teaching me that things and people can click and unclick and family is not always blood but instead the ones that cherish you, and no matter what, you must always be determined.

Some people like to hate and say it's not that great, but I say who needs 'em. I'm glad to live in a time when Undertale came out and got so much acclaim for its genuine heart and the talent behind it.
Undertale is so strange-feeling to me because it feels like it was MEANT to exist. Know what I mean? It feels like it has changed the world and popular culture and the lives of so many people in such a big way...it feels like something the universe had always had in it but waited until 2015 to give us. I feel you. It was the one thing that brought hope to my heart that desired deeper games.
Games that are actual art in themselves and bring a new perspective, entirely.
Games that touch you more than any game has ever managed to.
At first, I didn't like Undertale. I thought it to be "just another RPG" but boy was I wrong. I quickly got into it after my first playthrough, watching let's plays, animations, and music videos all over the place and it consumed me for a while.
Nowadays Undertale is something I try to get out of my daily system to not mention or reference it every few minutes however I fail at that very often and just let my appreciation for the game seep out.
I made friends thanks to this game and got this game a few more friends. I truly marvel at how much this game has impacted my life and my view of gaming and games.
Undertale isn't gone, it's with you as long as you want to so you don't have to miss it.

Undertale for me is not just a game that can be played offline. She left too big an imprint in life, for me it became a home. The house is cozy, so beautiful. A house that you don't want to leave. No game can replace Undertale yet. Thank you Toby Fox for childhood, for that unforgettable adventure.

In the past few months, I have been growing farther away from Undertale and my other favorite games, focusing more on my future. I noticed how my writing here emotionally touched some people in ways I never thought I could reach. Since then, I have been slowly walking through the labyrinth of my 8th grade year, to eventually discover that my hands have much more potential. As I turned in essays to my English teacher, reports to my History class, and speeches in Science, I have been recognized by the majority of my school's staff as well as a few parents, bus drivers, my school district's office members, and even a few journalists in my town who were impressed by me. APPARENTLY, with my ugly, scarred, twitchy, scratched, wart filled hands, I can do things like this that I had no idea about. And I am confident that I found out about all of this because of this comment, the people who replied to it saying they cried to this, or how they couldn't stop smiling, or how I didn't include a Mettaton quote, or how nostalgia of this song combined with my comment hurt them (whatever the freak that means), and because of Undertale. It's crazy how one of my very favorite video games helped me realize my talent of writing that could potentially alter the course of my life. You all helped with this as well, including DJ CUTMAN, and I appreciate this.

I've had the exact same wish so many times.
I have severe anxiety disorder. Undertale was the first thing that made me forget that and just live the moment. For the first time in my life I felt I was alive and felt like I matter. For the first time I truly smiled without feeling uneasy. When I showed it to my school friends, they laughed me off, while my fandom friends have always been there. I always wonder if the same fate that happened to Chara met me if I didn't find this game.
This experience made me wanna stay determined. Determined to the day, when being me without all this anxiousness will become my reality.

I remember when the Undertale community was really toxic. It made so much awfull stuff that I left it entirely, but I refused to let go of the game.
I'm glad I did. Because when all of the toxic people left only the real fans remain. And when everything became quiet I also returned.

Undertale has been such an incredibly large part of my life, and has taught me many important lessons like staying determined to meet your end goal no matter what. It's brought me plenty of laughs, tears, and happiness, the wonderful characters all impacting me in certain ways, how they're all so different yet each holds a special place in my heart. I remember at the end of my first pacifist run, I burst into tears because I thought my journey was 'finally over'. How wrong I was, I finally brought myself to reset and did a pacifist run again, over and over, until I started getting bored, and I decided to try genocide, which stemmed into constant cycles of me doing it, and me enjoying it more than the heartwarming pacifist run, although I would do pacifist runs in between. I let go of the game for a year or two, after being completely obsessed with it for a whole year, in total having more than 300 hours on the game. I've come back to it in recent months, and decided to try and undo my sin on the monsters world, completing a pacifist run, but then continued my cycle. I finished another genocide run today (me giving an example to my friend on how to do true genocide, and deciding to follow through) but after hearing this, I want to finish pacifist twice more (so I can get the lil' demon out of my game - like how in the end scene of pacifist where Toriel comes into your room on the surface and brings you pie, but if you do this after genocide Chara winks at you.) Then, I will finally leave this game alone, allowing them to truly get the happy ending they deserve. I want the best for the characters that have had such an impact on my life, and would like to thank Toby Fox for this incredible game. I love you Undertale, forever and always. :)

Yeah, when Libby showed me how to do the genocide I found it so much fun, yet it taught me something. It's your choice whether or not you want to do the good or bad thing. Just because you 'can' doesn't mean you 'have to'. When you do go genocide, you learn that because of your bad decisions, you're feared. Not only that, but more obstacles come into view such as Undyne the Undying and the sans fight. Meanwhile when you go pacifist, everything seems easier and boring. You make more friends and get treated more like an equal (I had a hard time pressing q). However, more smaller difficulties, such as extended fights like the Mettaton fight, occur. It generally lasts longer, and when the time comes you don't want to leave your group of friends. It's almost like when you go pacifist your journey is longer and somewhat memorable, and it's harder to complete multiple times without getting bored like you mentioned. Genocide really makes you feel like you're disconnected from everybody, that if you're going to be in this world you're better off without anyone. It's more interesting (stupid hotlands, make me kill 40 monsters-) and depressing, if not creepy. You affect areas and people, the message "But nobody came" meaning that you've cut off and shut down any possible interaction with the monsters. Yesterday, with the help of Libby, I was able to defeat the OP Undyne after taking so long to figure out how to finish her. I kept getting so close, though that only fueled my determination even more, and now i'm suffering at the sans fight, though i'm so excited to finish the fight. So, after all that being said, thank you, Toby Fox, for showing us actions comes with consequences. Though I believe they're multiple hidden messages throughout your journey, i'm really only stating the obvious.

When I heard this song, I remember the day that my daughter was born. I just see myself sitting in a hospital room, multicolored lights emitting from hidden LED lights and the mixture of excitement and fear for my daughter. I was excited to be her father, her dad... but I always wondered if I was ever going to be enough for her, and thankfully to this day, she can say that she loves me... Whenever I hear this song I think of her and I cry. All of the time that we've spent together, the times we went to parks, or when we'd go out to eat, it all stuck out to me in the most painful way, but one can only push forward as best as they can and accept this new reality that they have placed for themselves. I just hope she's doing okay wherever she is.

Undertale had a profound effect on me as a person; it changed how I viewed morality, video games, and entertainment as a medium. I could not name a game that has a had a bigger impact on me as a person than this game. I really hope deltarune can aspire to the same level, I want to feel the same feelings I felt during undertale again, mainly because I've never felt that way before.

I was never much of a video game fan until I saw Jacksepticeye play Undertale. I begged my dad to buy the game for me and I played it on my own. I cried. This game made me realize how powerful video games can be and how my love for great storytelling can carry into medias I had never gave a chance.
I remember how I drew Sans and Papyrus on all of my homework and wrote skeleton puns on my hands in class. I made butterscotch cinnamon pie even though I absolutely suck at baking and even though I made it wrong, it didn't stay together, and the crust was kinda burnt, it made me so incredibly happy. I hummed the soundtrack to myself daily and even dressed as Sans for a comic con. I would see yellow dandelions and the thought would cross my mind, "What if it just started talking?"
Undertale inspired me in so many ways and changed my way of seeing the world. I rarely think of Undertale these days, but I think it made me a lot more forgiving than I used to be. I definitely still make up skeleton puns around Halloween and remember first seeing Sans. I have a much greater appreciation for spaghetti, crosswords, and the crinkling of autumn leaves.
The music though. One bar of Undertale or Memory and I get chills. Every detail of the story and my old obsession comes back. I remember how much Undertale did for me. It brought me so much joy and made me appreciate the small things in life, a secret hope that doing so would give me the strength to stay determined and face the day. I have to play it again. I'm going to play it again.

Ah I have a similar story! I found Undertale through Jacksepticeye, I usually watched his playthroughs because I was too young to buy games for myself but still wanted to experience them. Undertale was different. I stopped watching his playthrough after the first episode (he made it out of the ruins and to the first checkpoint in snowdin) and I knew this game was the kind of gold I just had to play for myself. And so Undertale became the first game I ever purchased, my parents helped me download and navigate Steam just so I could install Undertale. It started a long line of indie game explorations for me, and an undying love for Toby Fox games. It helped me through tough times, and I think even made me a better person. Thanks Toby
i can’t believe undertale is going to be 5. i remember stumbling upon it as a 11 year old and not thinking much of it until my cousin told me about more of the characters, and instantly, i was hooked. i have so many amazing memories from being submerged in the undertale fandom for the 2 years that i was. I made my own cosplay (and revamped it a year later!) and i was proud of my own creations for once. i remember walking into school in 7th grade with my revamped MTT cosplay and feeing so free. so happy. so confident. i remember making so much fanart of undertale, my pink walls were covered in more pink (seriously the amount of mettaton fanart i made was so crazy-) the whole aspect of having a comfort character never hit me really until i got into undertale. i had at least 5 characters that, if i was feeling down, i could look up on tumblr and i’d cheer up. i made so many friends in the fandom, and i have so many amazing memories. thank you undertale. ❤️

This game is just amazing. Everything about it is just... I don’t know. Growing up with this game the past five years has been such a cool experience. It has taught me to get out of my comfort zone. To not be afraid. But most importantly, to stay determined. This game honestly has blessed us all. And I think Toby and Temmie did an amazing job. :)
i remember one rainy day when i was 13 years old i was just sitting on a stairs in front of the school watching the raindrops and listening to a sounds of rain i was afraid, i still don't know why maby becouse i was all alone no one liked me and nothing really mattered to me , i was thinking that i won't find a frieds then sudennly someone pat me in my shoulder i turned back and saw a girl from my class no one liked her either just becouse she was a little fater than the other girls, she was smiling to me and asked if she could sit next to me then i realized that i already got a friend it was one of the best days of my life, now im 20 years old i got a girlfriend that i want to live with and a small group of friends consisting of 5 peoples but not those fake friends but true friends sorry for my english and thanks for reading this ;D love ya guys

I read through all these comments and I wonder: "how did it take me so long to find out about Undertale, this might have had a much bigger impact on my life if I had discovered it earlier"
I only discovered Undertale in April of last year through a friend showing me the music, and it took me a while to actually get into the game. Once I did, I fell in love with not just the music, but the characters and story too. I'm not that emotional of a person irl, but I will admit that I cried twice during the game: when the monsters told the story of Asriel and how they hoped to be free, and the comforting scene at the end of Pacifist (and this was watching a playthrough because I couldn't play the game).
I'm a senior in high school, and what I've told a lot of my friends is that this game gave me a sense of identity; I didn't know where I fit in until I discovered this game and not only became closer with the friends I had but I also made new ones, which for me is huge. I wish that I had discovered this game back 4 or 5 years prior when it was more popular and not just known for its memes, because maybe I would have formed the identity I made now earlier, and maybe I might not have dealt with depression for as long as I have.
On the other hand, maybe it's better that I didn't, because going through all of that made me stronger, and if I hadn't of gone through those experiences I probably wouldn't be the same person I am today, nor would I have been able to relate to and help some of my friends who have also dealt with depression and anxiety as I have.
Eventually my friend who owns a Switch got the game so that I could play it because he knew just how much I wanted to, and I was able to live out the experience and show it to my friends as well, and I almost cried again at the comforting scene even though I already knew exactly what was happening lol.
This game is something that already has and will continue to have a lasting impact on my life, and I am grateful to Toby for bringing this into existence for the world to experience, I can hope that this game continues to do the same thing for others that it did for me, and that Deltarune (whenever it fully releases) can remind all of us of the feelings we felt with Undertale.

Hi! I don't know if you'll read this but we're the same age! I discovered Undertale in 2018, 3 years after it was released. The hype was pretty much over but I watched pretty much every video out there about it because I ended up loving it so much. I even wrote about it for my senior thesis a couple of weeks ago. I actually think that it's better that you discovered Undertale when it was less popular so you could take your own lessons from it and experience it in the way that you needed to. I'm not very eloquent but when I saw your comment I felt this overwhelming desire to let you know that I feel you and I also hope that we can get the same feelings from Deltarune
You.. Remind me of myself. I discovered Undertale in March of last year. I mean, of course, I knew about it before, but its fandom was only talking about Sans and Papyrus. I mean, they were literally everywhere, and it kinda annoyed me. So I really didn't want to know this game better.
So, in March I just listened to "Hopes and Dreams" and this was really good! I was curious about this game. So, I watched letsplays about it. And.. Damn, it was so good. I still blame myself I discovered it so late.

No matter what year, what age, you can still enjoy undertale.
Undertale music never fails to make me irrationally emotional. I remember around when undertale first came out, it got me through such an incredibly difficult time in my life. Shortly after deltarune was released, I was also going through a bit of a rough patch. I’d been listening to the deltarune soundtrack to try and cheer myself up, when the song ‘You Can Always Come Home’ (mostly the same as ‘Home’ from UT) came up. Just hearing the song and reading the title made me cry like baby. It really did feel like coming home.

Maybe it’s because it reminds me of the first time I played Undertale all the way through, or maybe it just reminds me a little bit of my childhood, or maybe a mix of both

I remember when Undertale came out during one of my Middle School years.
I listened to its music before I actually came to the realization that it was a game. I'd go to the library during my lunch time to listen to Hopes and Dreams and His Theme since those songs really kinda appealed to me at the time.
But nothing ever came close to how much I adored Undertale.
I lived in a poor family and didn't have very much.
But I always managed to make due and live happily with all of my friends around me.
I kept going like that. Hardships between friendship, family, and myself always managing to sneak around the corner and jump at me.
Growing up and going through high school, I moved on from interest to interest. Undertale seeming to be a distant memory I wouldn't really think all too much about.
I ended up making it through all of those years with the same friends I had before. With a large amount of new ones to add in.
Gathering to do fun little things at this cafe we had near the school that we walked to, there's one memory I won't forget.
It was around Christmas time. We all gathered at the cafe to celebrate my birthday that had passed recently.
The cafe had decided to take requests since it was a Friday night and people liked to go there and play card games like Magic and D&D and have their own touch tossed in. It was always fun to fuck around.
A rando ended up requesting Undertale. And so it played.
We all laughed and had a good time that night. Playing board games, sharing food, and drinking a pretty decent amount of goodies. I have photos from that night with all of my friends in one spot having the best night of their lives.
That was 2 years ago.
The cafe is now closed and has been replaced by something else.
A lot of my friends ended up moving around that year.
Now, I sit here. Listening to this in the year of 2020.
Already accepted into college and preparing to become an adult to live on my own.
I now realize how much this game really meant to me while I grew up.
I was never a die-hard fangirl and never shoved my interests in others' faces but.
It still serves as a reminder that you can be anybody and still appreciate the little things that this game ended up providing for everybody.
We truly don't deserve Undertale.

It took me so long to finally let go and move on from this game. I think that that's the lesson it taught me, though- to find out how to move on. Yes, it showed me how to become a much more well-rounded and accepting person, but I think being able to pull myself from the Undertale fandom when it slowly began to die was one of the most influential things I've ever done. I wouldn't say that I've left the fandom, but rather that I've just continued heading forward. Looking up to the sky instead of down to the Earth, you know?
I met most of my friends that I care about because of Undertale. Of course, I've lost contact with a bunch over this period of five years. The ones I have kept have been some of the best I could ever hope for, and not a single day goes by where I don't miss those who I've left behind. I don't think I'd be the person I am today without them or, by extension, this game.
I went ahead and joined a sport.
I was inspired to further pursue my interests.
I got through one of the hardest parts of my life.
I loved- and lost.
But most importantly, I began to piece together this puzzle that is me.
And here, at 8:42 PM on this Friday of Fridays, I was not expecting to make a confession- especially after wrestling practice. Yet, here we are.
I just wanted to say thanks.
To what remains this fandom. To Toby Fox. To you, Dj CUTMAN, for reminding me of times long past.

With rural schools.
There's a charter school here, and a normal, inclusive elementary.
I was in the charter school, which had a maximum of 25 kids a class.
Nothing ever stayed the same at the school. I had a new princaple every year.
We had a small family. But I loved it.
It was my place to come home. And there I had plenty of people to talk to.
When I was in elementary, this game was everything to me.
And what was more disappointing was that nobody I was friends with new what this game was.
So I had to introduce it to them.
I introduced an entire friend group to a videogame.
And we all love it.

I only discovered undertale last year, but this somehow still feels nostalgic. I'm glad I went into the game blind because I don't think the experiance would have been so amazing otherwise. I didn't watch any playthroughs first, I didn't research any of the lore, I didn't look into the game. I just knew some people who said it was good and decided to play it. I never could have imagined the huge fandom behind it or the amount of emotional connection I would feel towards it. I never thought I would cry because of killing a pixelated skeleton and a goat lady. Undertale is a truly unique game.
I remember the first time I killed Toriel when I got to asgore's home I for some reason cried because I remembered Toriel's house

I feel nostalgia for a time I wasn't even born, heck, even for a place I never lived in. I wish my life was different, that I was born somewhere else, maybe even to a different mother, but I would kill to be with my father.
I don't understand why UNDERTALE reminds me so much of my father, it's so bittersweet, because I love my old man, but sometimes I think that maybe I haven't spent enough time with him, and I feel sorry for him, well, for me too, having to live with a mother and wife who will never be satisfied with anything, yet, still finding happiness within her and being with her.
I just wish I lived in the outskirts of a big town, with surrounding woods, a great big mountain overlooking us. Making fire pits in the summer, enjoying hot tea (or icecream sodas) on the winter, seeing the sunset together, and enjoying the company of my father.
I know my father won't see this, he isn't too much of a listener in the gaming music genre, but I fucking love you man, I really wish I could get to hang out with you for longer than we will be able to...

I made a promise at the end of my last pacifist playthrough to never ever play Undertale again, not because I didn't like it, but instead to listen to Flowey, I wanted to let everyone live in peace, let people go, because, well, Flowey said outright that after the game *I* was no longer needed/wanted, so, in return, I was no longer there, I love Undertale, but I will keep my promise, even *almost a year later* so, I will listen to this, and maybe watch a playthrough.

The worst part is that you're decision doesn't matter, Undertale is only a game, and It's trying to make you feel guilty for resetting and playing it again.

This game was genusely good, and deserved his success.
There are some times where people who don’t know the Undertale fandom and say that “oh yeah. that fandom is one of the most toxic fandoms out there!” but in reality these people go through the same struggles as so many other people who don’t even play the game. Some people are even saved by this game.
I found this wonderful game through memes (mostly megalovania...) in 2017. I remember I watched Jacksepticeye play it first because I didn’t have enough money digitally to buy the game, but after some *determination* and persuasion I convinced my parents to buy it on steam for me. I’ve played the game more times than I can count but it’s still such an amazing storyline and the soundtrack never gets old. I know every nook and cranny, every secret and hidden thing of the game and, but I still love the enjoyment of making friends during my pacifist runs, and the exciting of the battles during genocide runs. It has taught me that I should never give up even when times are hard and want to quit. I’ve learned to try no matter what.
Whatever old fandom Undertale had might have made that reputation, but because Undertale has a new, better fandom now, I get SO annoyed when people say, "uNdeRtAle hAs oNe oF thE wOrSt fANdoMs oUt tHEre" it's like... no.. no it doesn't, whatever that old fandom was, yeah, but we fans in the new fandom are very visibly less toxic, and we are much more calm and welcoming, you know?

And that's all there is to the game. It's just a lesson, but the gameplay gets tired and old and the storyline is mediocre at worst and alright at best. People overexaggerate the game's beauty when I feel that as complicated as the game's storyline is, it's best when it's left simplistic and not shoving "Genocide is bad" in your face. We get that genocide is bad. You don't have to nail it into our face all the time.

And so I did. I watched playthroughs of the game, looked at art, read fancomics, even dressed up as Chara for Halloween once. The game brought me a lot closer to some of my other friends too. Yet, this year is my first time actually playing the game. I finally bought it. It's even better than the playthroughs. This game is really something special, and I'm so glad I got into it.

oh, jesus. listening to this... i feel like i’m eleven fucking years old again, all alone in a new school with that one other lonely person who wanted to be my friend. finding undertale just clicked. it was like finding the first pieces that fit together in a puzzle, and i held onto it like an infant holds onto their mother’s finger. it was cringe and gross now that i look back, but then it was perfect. bliss.
i remember being a writer for The Adorned Authors on undertale amino and getting my own group of friends and meeting all those people...... i miss them so much but i know why we all parted ways: it’s the way we grow up. things and people come and go and we have to go with them, but not always in the same direction.
