- Sleepy Lagoon was a huge recording for Harry James in 1942.
In fact, it was one of few hits that remained virtually unchanged in the James Band Book until the end of Harry's life.
To see closeups of Harry as he played this, provide a textbook lesson in Trumpet Embouchure.
Also check out trombonist Dave Robbins as he plays an "un-Sleepy" like blues lick at 1:37.
The expression on Harry's face is priceless!
When Buddy Rich left the Harry James Orchestra in 1966 after six years, James asked Rich why he was leaving. According to Buddy, his response was: "Because I'm tired of playing 'Sleepy Lagoon' every night."
😂😂😂
