As of today Ray is still with us at 99 and is the last survivor of the original Glenn Miller band of 1940

    Will haunt me forever

We won't EVER forget Harry James. But both these guys played beautiful horns with exemptional tone!

Only two people can play this song so beautifully. Eddie Calvert RIP and our Ray Anthony .

From the Age of Romance ! Ray Anthony's recording of the Eric Coates' melody is less well known than that of Harry James, but is just as evocative. Nobody knew it in 1957, but ballroom dancing was coming to an end. Rock'n'roll was coming, romance was on the way out, and so too the big bands.

I’d actually challenge that people knew it was on its way out but what nobody knew was how permanently.

I was a musician for many years. Your tonal quality and execution of your knowledge of the trumpet are surpassed only by your emotion that you insert into the music. Perfection is when there is nothing left to add and nothing left to take away. This, in my opinion is perfection. My compliments
    Charles

I listen to a lot of Ray Anthony's lp's on UA-cam... wonderful. He is a National Treasure. Make sure to check out the video of Ray Anthony hosting Marilyn Monroe at his house.. those were the days!!!!!!

This was during the period Ray and his band were on for Plymouth, on ABC's Friday night schedule [10pm(et)].

Ray Anthony sounds very similar to Harry James here; a delightful version of a British song (Eric Coates), still being used as the signature tune for BBC Radio's "Desert Island discs".

Survived well past the Big Band era by the astute use of television.

Too bad there is distortion in the recording, because this is fabulously well done!

    私が最初にスリーピーラグーンを聞いた時が、50年代後半でレイアンソニーのトランペットでだったことを思い出しました。その時はなんと美しい曲だろうと感激しました❗
