Looks like a good alternative to the BM Narrows, super slim, lightweight, and great materials at nearly half the price. Kudos to ZT for making a cmpelling edc knife. Been a while since ZT dropped something good, the 0308 was the last one and it's been out for a couple of years now.
I haven't bought a KAI knife since Kershaw's USA line went nearly exclusively automatic and ZT went quiet. Hopefully their US factory can get going again.

I'm kinda recognizing that pocket clip from the Kershaw Covalent, which I hate! It rides so deep it allows pocket fabric to slip over the pommel and it gets stuck between the pommel and the clip. After that, pretty much the knife irretrievably without two hands to free the fabric.
I'm glad to see a US maker come out with a general EDC folder that's competitive with foreign brands. Maybe the industry is learning to listen to the community.

while the design isnt a bad one. this reinforces the fact that ZT is dead for me. its doesnt give off vibes as a zt it just looks like a kershaw with the badging swapped off. if that is what they are going to be going forward thats not what i want out of them as a company. if they start getting back to having outside designers and doing things in that realm then maybe i will get interested at some point again but, currently they might as well be a dead/defunct company.
I would not pay 270 for 62rc magnacut. And they never fixed the lock geometry issues failing locks that many seen before and neroknives showcased. I like the design otherwise. Looks visually appealing.
I honestly did not know the price when filming or I woulda spoke about it, I didn't have any information until the release and at that point the video was going live

If you look at Larrin's protocols, youll see a lot of different ways to arrive at those numbers. Some do better than others at those same hardnesses. But you are correct. I think companies need to focus on geometry if they make a knife at 63 and get broken tips rather than lower it. This is exactly what CRK did.

For years, ZT's customer base has been screaming for the big, beefy designs that originally endeared many to the brand. At this point, I've gotta believe Mr Magoo's the head of R&D, or whichever department it is that ultimately "oks" the big, beefy projects.
Very likely your either not fatiguing the burr enough for it to snap off or you aren't holding your angle consistent enough to maintain the burr until the end and you are breaking the burr off over time so when you get to the point of time to fatiguing it there is no wire but rather little pieces.
@EDCandLace I've just never seen the burr pop off. I just sharpened two knives this weekend and I never saw where the burr went. Maybe it gets embedded in my strop when I work it off.

This looks like a generic KAI design, I must point out that Kershaw (Launch) designs are much much further right now. But thin blade stock adds some points for cutting.

Been watching your videos for years at this point i think back when you had like 60k subscribers maybe less and im happy to see how well youre doing. I had a random question do you know anyone who has tested the HRC on WE 20cv i have a couple of their knives and i swear the civivi 14c28n i have holds a better edge than the 20cv. Could it be my fault in how i sharpen it or something? This is just an observation ive made and its been bugging the crap out of me.
Luvthemknives channel has sent many many knives for professional testing, both for HRC and for edge retention. His channel is great, maybe check there!
@anthonyberardi8904 I was also going to add that it would majorly depend on blade geometry and edge angle and also that HRC isn't always going to be the answer to thst question either, different steel compositions are going to have different levels of abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, toughness. Just because we have been led to believe by marketing that some steels are superior to others because one is considered "budget steel" such as 20CV compared to 14c28n, doesn't mean that that "budget steel" will be lesser in every category. I have seen 9cr18mov blades hold an edge longer than much more expensive blades even though it is considered a garbage steel nowadays. There are so many factors, it's just about manufacturers providing as detailed information as possible on their products which doesn't always happen. Hope that helps!

They have none at 63rc and I would suspect 62 would be the max. They will have batches that will be lower from time to time, as they never do the max advertised. There has been some already that have been tested at 62.
20cv cut testing depends on the heat treat protocol used. Magnacut for zt is 62rc so depending if they use cryo or not, it will cut a maximum of 230ft of cardboard. If they are not using cryo, then less than that. Note that Spyderco m390 and 20cv at 62rc will cut 400ft. Reate with secondary hardening will cut 340-400ft (59-61rc). Without secondary hardening 61rc will usually cut around 300ft give or take, unless the protocol is not great or not using cryo.
It depends on the magnacut, if it's lower that 62 63 I would go with the venev 240 which is similar to 600 grit, if it's higher hrc I go between 600 and 5k grit which would be between the 240 and 1200

This is ZT's version of the BM 940 and they beat them at their own game imo. Always wanted a 940 but just something about the design kept me away from it. I already ordered this knife i think this is the perfect edc. But also really wish they released a brother to my 0308. Maybe in 5 years lol

ZT site says 60-63 HRC. 🤔 So technically, you might get a soft ass magnacut like a box of chocolates.
Dr. Larrin Thomas says 63-64 hrc is where magnacut really shines and you get the best performance, the hogue deka is right on the money at 63 hrc

I get a little burr when sharpening but I've never had a burr "pop off" so I must not be getting a big enough burr.

Could it be that the Civivis you own have thinner blades/or better edge geometry? 20CV, even at 59rc, should outcut 14C28 by a decent margin

This is ZT's version of the BM 940 and they beat them at their own game imo. Always wanted a 940 but just something about the design kept me away from it. I already ordered this knife i think this is the perfect edc. But also really wish they released a brother to my 0308. Maybe in 5 years lol

Disappointed to see Ti on one side and CF on the other. Deal breaker.
I enjoy zt carbonfiber a lot. Cf is not for everyone but its one of my favorite materials.

Ti can be light. CF is light. Don't want it half of one and half of the other. Glad some like it.
