Is anyone else out there? Coming back to these videos 3-4 years later to relive them and the awesome commentary of TB back when he played WoW or is it just me?
@Nekro9000 No, they don't. If you don't play the beta, do not make judgements about the beta. Molten Armour drains mana way too fast, you have to use Mage Armour at this level of gear.
I'd still argue that Freezing Trap from hunters is worse. Like polymorph it breaks on damage, however it also: a) Isn't direct target, thus can go wrong (you actually see that in your Grim Batol movie) b) Has a cooldown c) Requires you to be in melee or use the trap launcher (even longer cooldown)
total, you have restored my faith in wow. im getting my subscription back and im going to rock cataclysm when it comes out. i love the vids, i will always watch them no matter what you put out.
I think it's AWESOME that you're inviting Wakez (DK Tank) to all your instance runs. You guys seem to be pretty good friends and he seems to be a pretty good tank.
Regarding the achievements for doing it correctly, look at it in the same way we look at the special boss achievements in Ulduar. It's a guide on how to do it correctly. They're in-game strategy guides, only now it's being applied to the standard rather than just the special. Personally, I would like two achievements per boss. One which is "the strategy guide" and another for "hard mode". An example of a hard mode one would be for Karsh, and it would involve engaging the boss with the adds up.
So I'm trying to remember all the good hard Heroics, and my mind mainly goes back to BC. Heroic Shattered Halls was pretty tough, keeping the adds in control and DPS killing them fast enough was actually pretty challenging, one of my favorite fights. Heroic Caverns of Time Rescuing Thrall, the last boss was particularly tough, to the point where people would not try to kill him at all. After that I can think of heroic shadowlabs, the mass mind control was the end of many runs.
one idea could be to keep beauty at that difficulty and have it drop slightly better loot so that once you start getting gear you have a new boss that you couldnt do before, makes things less monotone and gives you something to strive for.
@KILLME1017 Strategy - CC 2 (square, circle) of the 3 adds during the fight, kiling one (skull). CC's i've used were hunters ice trap, druids hybernate. The adds still drop pools of lava like in normal mode, easily avoidable and only affect mele/tank. The boss still AOE fears, quite troublesome as being a tank struck in the back = dead. Beauty still as in normal mode charges a player at random doing around 50,000 damage. This fight is very heal intensive, and requires add management.
Regarding Warlock's Fear glyph: The one point it is worse, is that the Glyph adds a Cooldown. It's still really, really nice. It's also hilarious because with the Succubus and Banish, the Warlock can reliably CC three mobs at once, though most of the time you should have enough CC without having to resort to that.
40 mans were great, I think thats what made epics feel epics back then is that you had to raid and roll against lets say 6-7 people for a class item, but first you had to hope that your item dropped. When you get your item it felt amazing, with the introduction of the multi-class token most of the classes fought each other for a T-piece and you already know the story of the badge system. Overrall I hoped they would have kept a quest where you can upgrade your T6 into T7 etc in a series of quest.
oh netherspite brings back memories, man i miss tbc alot. i liked all the raiding content back then and it was fun. hopefully cata will bring back alot of those fun times back in the new heroics and raids.
@0Murray0 the edges of the action bar are different and on top of the action bar are diff spells; yes i know u can do that in interface. But it usually fills up the whole screen, his action bar is inbetween in edges insted of filling up the whole screen on the bottom.
The FRAPS idea is a really good one. It's actualy a decent habit people should try, not nessecarly FRAPing exactly, but taking a look at how they attack or tank or such. Cause sometimes wipes are just for little things, or a misunderstanding. You learn from it, you tend to become a better player. Though with most people nowadays, it seems that old saying "learn from your mistakes", dosen't imply. Typical groups with a wipe, someone rages, blames everyone else, then leaves, insted of trying again
@TheBaron87YT yes I totally agree. I was simply providing an example on how the achievement should have been, which was to let an add transform. Blizzard actually changed the achievement recently, you now need to kill the boss after letting all 3 adds transform :)
Beauty: It is possible to apply the same kiting strategy on the last boss to the adds that surround beauty (though it is probably the case that they always pull together). A group I was in used a 50 % slow provided by a warrior: piercing howl. Did end up two tanking it, however.
@Uouttooo I would hardly call it dumbing down the game. It removes a major inconvenience for players that hardly made a difference. Difficulty in WoW should be designed around skill and co-ordination, not around simply choosing the wrong spec at the wrong time. That doesn't make the game more difficult - it just makes it annoying. Allowing people to play the spec they enjoy doesn't dumb the game down.
As I recall when WotLK launched for months the number one killer of players was Loken. Content difficulty scales with gear, that is how it's always been and it's how it always will be. By this time next year people will be face rolling through all of these heroics.
You forgot to mention those pools give the boss stacks, and the pools spawn where the adds die. The adds also spawn every time he gets his 99% damage reduction armor back on when his stacks go to zero.
I reckon that if/when people overgear the place, Arrested Development will be an achievement reserved for those who do it the proper way, even though they could probably get away with one of them evolving.
I was carried through content at level 60 for a little while (until I actually got decent / good). While I like 25m raids, it was also pretty nice to be carried through content for a few months. It got me hooked on the game, and it was a good way to get better at raiding. There was also no heroic instances, so there was no decent way to learn how to raid.
Hey totalbiscuit ! Love your videos ! Just wondering if you plan on continuing your wow videos after cataclysm releases ? Maybe like boss strategies, tips and tricks, and videos for new patches and stuff ? Thanks !
40 mans were a nightmare for all but a handful of elite guilds :S End game raiding was traditionally exclusive to a small percentage of players, Karazhan opened up end game to everyone. I don't agree with a lot of new blizzard mechanics but I do believe that reducing raids to 25 was an excellent idea for a large number of players.
@temnost2 the edges of the action bar are different and on top of the action bar are diff spells; yes i know u can do that in interface. But it usually fills up the whole screen, his action bar is inbetween in edges insted of filling up the whole screen on the bottom.
Don't think "Beauty" was bugged, I think it was more of a tactics issue. It appears the three adds need to be "off-tanked", but with Cata's inflated HP pool and armour for everyone, it's quite possible for *any* DPS to off-tank them (even clothies) - they just need some good AoE threat which is easy, and the Healer needs to be on the ball
@Gertinn actually, you do have a few instances where you can choose what way to go, and what bosses to kill, or not t o kill;) for example: Hall of Stone (or is lightning?) the one where you can either go for the maiden, the Stone dude or just skip them both and go for the Event with Brann
I think getting achivements for doing the fight correctly is a nice way to say like "hey guys, this is how your supposed to do the fight" which saves you having to use outside sources, like wowhead or so on. Of course, the problem with that is it can be tricky to work out which ones are supposed to be hints and which ones are supposed to be making it harder, but eh.
i like his videos alot better than tankspots. he presents his thought process on learning the fight which, for my personally, is a big help and makes the fights easier to understand.
Ok so the last boss can very easily be made more difficult by giving him a stonewall ability; he could target the tank a random group member and hit them with an "Obsidian Barrier" (for theme, or something else named Obsidian that implies a wall) which creates a barricade of stone between them, making kiting more difficult to increase the chances of him switching with one of the adds in a bad spot. Or it could just put a stone cage (diablo 2 style) around the furthest player away (likely a kiter
Achievements are designed to make players feel better about themselves. It is a strategy that Blizzard uses to keep bored players that don't enjoy end-game raiding or farming certain things or practicing a lot. It's mostly for casual players. But there are also some achievements that are very tough to get.
@Domo1610 Vanilla is the term given to the original WoW before there was any expansions. Oh, and just so you know, WoW costs 15 bucks a month. You can sign up for a free 10 day trial though, and if you signup after that you get a free month. If you have any other questions, just send a PM to me :)
@gillouzekid epic gear is actually tough to get again. In wotlk, they made epic gear (purple) easy to get, but in earlier (an apparently later as well) expansions, they are difficult to acquire.
@yearned2learned I'd say that most people say its too easy because before Wrath, pugging was completely discouraged. Wrath did turn the dial to easy to a point where a person can have T10 armor without actually getting a guild, before Wrath this was impossible. The problem with heroic raids is that it simply gets tedious. Spending a month getting through a raid just to do the raid again isn't good content and is simply lazy design to try and please multiple crowds.
applying ring of frost or frost nova at the base of the ramp, even a cone of cold, will arrest the quick silver and allow the tank to drag the elemental away to a safe distance. easy peasy
Total I think each boss is going to have multiple achievements. All Heroic bosses will probably have achievements for completing them on heroic much like each boss in ICC Heroic. Achievements make some people feel like they have progressed in some way as shallow as that seems. Its pretty much just a form of gratification.
@INDLeonSKennedy The Taunka are the tauren like creatures (Only difference is that they got a flat face) who were introduced in Borean Thundra WotlK. They're allied to the Horde so that may be the reason that you haven't heard of em', if you're ally that is.
Hello TB! Enjoying all you're videos more than ever now towards the end of this expansion working on LK 25 heroic and generally other than that i'm bord other than watching your amazing videos your great! I'm going to ask you a favor that might be to much for you as you already give us alot of videos but, would it be possible to get a short 5-6 minute breakdown video on a heroic training dummy off possible fire mage rotations? (As I play mage also) Other than that keep it up amazing videos! :)
I have to agree with you when looking at this video. The last boss does need a couple more mechanics. Not too many, but just a couple could really make that fight difficult.
@swebbe144 No, they award Valor points when completed. Normals give Justice Point. It's true that random hc bosses give little JP but peeps do these for VP since farming normals for JP is much more efficient.
@TotalHalibut They put in the *good-way-to-do-it* achivements so that people can look up the stratigies of a boss, also since the bosses in cataclysm are alot harder than wrath, its an achivement itself to defeat a boss.
The only reason I think that achievement is there is so doing it properly is still a challenge when everyone outgears the Heroic content towards the end of the expansion. In that case it would still need you to do your job properly in that fight, even if you could do it another way by then.
@Failtardz due to the varying stages of development in the beta, not all the loot has been put in place yet. though it's probably safe to say that more will be put in as the game comes closer to release date.
@WhatTheForge They did change it to be that actually. Now they have the achievement popping if you evolve each of them and kill them all before killing Corla.
one good thing they could do in heroic is to make the adds a trigger to dispell an enrage from the boss, like he gets enraged 3 times and each time you dispell one add die and the trigger or where the mobs should stand is different each time or they make the boss the trugger
with the dehydration achivment there are torches on the wall you can click to kill the adds that appear when to kill all of them but you dont have to do that but your supposed to do that
@DjsammyX2 Cata gear gives a huge amount of stamina compared to wrath gear, hence why Tanks that are freshly dinged in questing gear are easily hitting 100k hp.
@yearned2learned I definitely think that it's partly an issue with how easy 5 mans are in Wrath. Heroics are simply a joke. They have been since even Naxx. While sure, there are alot of quirks with Wrath raids, and people will always complain about them being "too easy", I definitely think Ulduar and ICC were well made. Ulduar especially. But even ICC, which some people complain about being too easy, really feels right in terms of difficulty to an extent. The LK fight in particular feels right
what i think happens with the last 2 bosses is that raz is meant to go to the other boss first the core hound pups kill them so you can get the boss then he's meant to die on the last one. not the other way round
I was just skimming through some random videos, I'm not actually sure how I ended up here :P, since my first search was of parkour ^^ so I was just about to click on something else, but I fell in love with that awesome voice and humor of yours xD, I'm not gay, but there's no way of not loving this video, I just spent 22 minutes of just listening to a guy without really even paying attention to the video, and I would have done it again in a heartbeat! :D
If they did bring back some sort of fourty man PvE thing, I'd like to see such happen to VoA-style instances. Loot lottery where strat doesn't matter, and the more people you have, the higher chance of stuff not going to waste. That might be nice.
@Gertinn Problem i saw mainly was the "lets rush the instance and skip everything we can skip or get kicked". Eventho i horribly overgear heroics atm in WotLK i like to just keep on doing the whole thing... And i expect with the time heroics will take in Cata most people will start skipping whatever they can to save up time and rush it again.
btw, good news everyone! i dont have a plague to destroy all life on Azeroth, but Krash Steelbenders (3rd boss) HP is increased to 6k now :o so 3 times harder!
Looks awesome. I wish they would tune up the final boss but it probably won't happen. It's also good to finally see what was up with Raz clearing adds for you. Thanks yet again, TB. Ps. My hunter NEVER got Finkle's Skinner. I feel it's my duty to /spit on him when I see him. :p
They might be able to change the mechanics of the adds for normal mode to do something of a resource drain on the target or something.....maybe a slow attack speed/cast speed or even have them to where they lower attack/spell damage of their target. That would feel more like a normal mode mechanic and the healing debuff be for heroic.
One warlock fully dotted the target that was meant to be sheep locked, and the next pack locks pet shot at one being feared eventually breaking it from it( not to mention far more situations when imp shot at banished targets). I guess your hands wont be slapped that much for sloppiness as in vanilla, but still decent punishments. One request though, get some melee dps in your group sometimes. Having a really hard time gauging the dungeon when you run it as if you ran MGT with 3 mages.
@Uouttooo They´ve changed the mechanics =) Blizz says that the mage "Fire" is magic, and the fire elementals are made of real flames. So They can now be hurt by Fire from mages equal to frost. Obviously, the whole immune to fire thing was ridiculous as it forced people to go frost. I recall MC being like that. Its just not good game mechanics. A welcomed change in my opinion.
Although i agree about the 40 mans and people sleeping i still remember first going into molten core and having 40 other people with that "epic" feeling but yes it was indeed 20-30 people awake and the rest sleeping
I did the normal mode earlyer this week and i was able to pull beauty's pups seperate to the boss so there is a chance that you are still able to do that in heroic. So the srat for that fight would be to manage your pull so you can kill all the pups on their own.

@Errathetube Because it's not properly itemised yet. Beta is Beta.

hey man love your videos what program do u use to screen capture so clearly. ive tried some but i never got the clear picture like what u have
btw, you have been able to use entangling roots indoors for a very long time
with the dehydration achivment there are torches on the wall you can click to kill the adds that appear when to kill all of them but you dont have to do that but your supposed to do that
@DjsammyX2
Cata gear gives a huge amount of stamina compared to wrath gear, hence why Tanks that are freshly dinged in questing gear are easily hitting 100k hp.
The LK fight in particular feels right
amazing no one whispered you during this clip!
what i think happens with the last 2 bosses is that raz is meant to go to the other boss first the core hound pups kill them so you can get the boss then he's meant to die on the last one. not the other way round
I was just skimming through some random videos, I'm not actually sure how I ended up here :P, since my first search was of parkour ^^
so I was just about to click on something else, but I fell in love with that awesome voice and humor of yours xD, I'm not gay, but there's no way of not loving this video, I just spent 22 minutes of just listening to a guy without really even paying attention to the video, and I would have done it again in a heartbeat! :D
If they did bring back some sort of fourty man PvE thing, I'd like to see such happen to VoA-style instances. Loot lottery where strat doesn't matter, and the more people you have, the higher chance of stuff not going to waste. That might be nice.
@adre420 ya, mages now have timewarp, it does the same thing and shares a CD with heroism/bloodlust
You can CC the core pups now, stuff like Freeze trap and scare beast work.
btw, good news everyone! i dont have a plague to destroy all life on Azeroth, but Krash Steelbenders (3rd boss) HP is increased to 6k now :o
so 3 times harder!
heh the name Finkle Inhorn is also from the Ace Ventura movie, if you remeber it :D
@SytoChan Because he's on a premade and all it is, is the normal pets/mounts and such you get when you make a new character :P
@Compromiz3d its in the interface menu --> Status text tab, and it the player one.
In Beauty's room I'm pretty sure you can wait and you can pull one add at a time.
@oerbaa Except that's all it did, so yes, it was shit.
@Filnizer
Stop flaming there will you? These are the videos that are needed!
@Nr1Trollhater He doesn't need to use blink, it's a stun break.
@Brittonbadog also remember that these videos were done in the beta testing phase
