One of the most amazing Disney rides I have ever seen. I couldn’t understand a word and was still completely captivated by it. I wish they would build this in the states.
@@tylerb9870 at the start they are asking you are with jack sparrow to explore right? Then they talk about treasure and say everyone like treasure and treasure is everything and that is why you came here. After that, when jack sparrow turned from a skeleton into a human he says that instead of us getting the treasure your getting the treasure which means that he is not coming with us. Then the part where those two pirates are in the wooden thing the taller pirate with the higher voice says we won’t tell them the treasure is here and the other pirate says don’t say that. The first pirate responds by saying ITS NOT HERE ITS NOT HERE. The hammerhead tells Davy Jones and Davy says to tell sparrow that in order to get his treasure they will fight to the death. After that at the end. When he is singing about getting the treasure there is a secret ending where Davy turns the treasure into stone with his magic
+Nora Dennis But they put the ride title in English before the Chinese ride title, for some reason. I think they should hand out headphones or something where you can play the English translation wherever there are animatronics speaking Chinese.
This is how screens should be used in rides! As a compliment to the physical and real effects, not the basis of the ENTIRE RIDE *cough cough* universal studios
The only thing is (from videos I've seen since I've never been to universal) you can tell the screens look entirely fake and doesn't feel real. Here, the screen use is complimented so well it really does feel like your in the environment. Yes universal does use a similar method to this ride, but usually it's obvious or doesn't blend well. I think the only real thing I've seen universal do that actually looked good was in the pre-que line for gringots when you go down in the elevator. Using the ceiling to project the scene/environment was the best touch they added.
I have been to Universal Studios (in both Florida and Hollywood) and I can say that the Harry Potter rides do a much better job of integrating the screens with the practical effects than Spiderman and Transformers. There were a few points where it was a bit awkward (mostly for the floo powder in Forbidden Journey) but other than that, if you experience the ride in person it's pretty seamless!
Isabella Barry I think they're referring to King Skull Island and Fast and Furious, which are 100% screen rides. F&F is the worst ride Universal has ever made..
Having Davy Jones and Jack Sparrow has screens in this ride is even too much. They should never be anything more than special effects. Characters and creatures need to be animatronics.
I know! I've seen their animatronics come a long way. :) I think part of it is projection though and not all animatronics but still pretty darned awesome.
Irma Ismena Sophie Yep like the new Barbossa animatronic of the Paris version. He have the effect of the human and the scheleton when coming the dark, like the projection of Jack at the 2:16. Disney animatronics are the best.
Irma Ismena Sophie so true, the one at WDW is cool, but I would just LOVE to experience this one of a kind underwater ride bc underwater looking rides are my fave!!!
For the first two minutes, my reaction was basically "Wow, China got a crappy Pirates of the Caribbean." How wrong I was. I applaud the Imagineers who obviously designed the ride intro to be a mundane and static throwback, only to Wow us with their whole design.
Well, I live in Hong Kong and expected nothing from China(which is too infamous for ripoffs) but this one ride was impressive enough to compare Hong Kong Disneyland's level with Shanghai's. Well done, imagineers.
people always have bad impressions of china because of what news said..I mean, some cities in China (like shanghai) are really developed. this show is nothing big..
if you watch closely there is some kind of fabric in front of jack and the skeleton is protected into it, when jack appears the skeleton hand is still visible for a few seconds, it took me like 10 times to figure it out lol
It is basically the only animatronic in the ride... but then so is the talking skull, the hammerhead pirate, Davy Jones, the crabs and the second Jack Sparrow. But pointless whining is less effective if you're being accurate, isn't it?
This looks incredible! I would never want the classics to change in Anaheim and WDW, but it's so fun to see a different version of the ride! Not to mention the imagineering it totally next level in this ride! The transformation from the skeleton to jack! Wow! I thought they utilized screens super well! I hope I get to ride this someday.
+Nora Dennis They already shoved Jack Sparrow down everyone's throat in the Anehiem one updates through his actual inclusion and constant, unnecessary references to him to try and make him more important than he seemed to be in the movies. Any changes shouldn't be in the direction of the movies unless they make sense, especially if they're gonna try and put in a ton of screens and try and pass watching a movie to actual animatronics and prop storytelling.
L1nkn1vy I completely agree. What people don't understand is the movie was based on the OG ride. This Shanghai version of Pirates is thus framed after the movies. Going back to the original ride and trying to force additions into it to make it more like the movie is just silly to me. I worked on the ride for two years, and when they awkwardly placed Jack Sparrow throughout the ride it broke my heart.
I just got back from Shanghai Disneyland and I have to say this is now my favorite Disney ride I have been on (beating out Poohs Hunny Hunt at Tokyo Disneyland). As amazing as this video is it really does not do the ride justice. the video projections aren't as in your face as the video shows and they really blend well with the surrounding scenery. The animatronics are top notch with very fluid movements and that skeleton /Jack Sparrow transformation is AMAZING up close. what you don't get in the video also is the movement of the boats, they travel forward, backwards, sideways and spin plus minor vibration (the scene where you are brought back up to the surface of the ocean really feels like you are floating up). I will definitely be going back to Shanghai Disneyland for this ride (and Tron coaster).
I can totally agree with you. I went into this blind because I didn't want anything spoiled to me beforehand. The real life experience of this ride is just jaw dropping good. Good job Disney!
This was my favorite ride too .. im glad that we took the ride in evening, basically no lines ahahah... and it brings back memories if not for the chinese language..feels like you're part of the movie when you ride this one...
Everyone seemed to like Tron the most, but Pirates is seriously the BEST ride I've ever been on! My husband and I went to every Disney park in the world (except for Hong Kong), and Pirates in Shanghai left us speechless. Oh man!! This one is even better than the original. Love the part where you plunge under the ocean then rise back up along with the ships. Too darned cool in my humble opinion! Would love to experience it in person. :)
Omg this was the greatest attraction ride I've ever seen on the internet I mean it. Wow I'm so jealous of the people who actually got to ride this. Pirates of the Caribbean is my childhood that battle scene with the ships gave me chills.
This is such an incredible attraction. Best Disney has ever done. I just rode it two weeks ago for the first time. This video, while very well done, doesn’t even begin to capture how amazing the music, physical sets, and screens all blend together in such a perfectly orchestrated way. If you are a serious Disney fan, you should really consider a trip to Shanghai. For this ride alone, it’s worth every penny!
It's so realistic that I couldn't tell when the ride 'went down '(after Jack Sparrow appeared) or 'went up' (after Davy Jones) Thank you for your vids, they're great to watch in quarantine

5: 59 pure joy moment - somebodies grandma, mom, or sister freaking out - Ride designers scored big on the effect suspending disbelief for a mere moment allows immersion to occur. Nice work very impressive.
Your filming was OUTSTANDING. Your Pirates ride is SOOOOOOOO much better than what we have in my state of California. Thank you so much for filming this and sharing. Youre the best.
This is currently my #1 favorite ride of all the Disney parks! I thought it was going to be Tron or Flight of Passage (in Orlando), but boy was I wrong! I can’t wait to go back to Shanghai Disneyland
Very sad to read comments saying how my inclusion in the PotC rides ruined the rides themselves. I assumed, through my vast knowledge acquired by drinking rum 24 hours a day, that it was I who had made thr ride famous.
This ride's a mishmash of the movies, and it seems to work well enough at using those set-pieces, but the movies definitely have a very different tone than the original ride (especially the second and third film). I think this relies too much on projections for the characters, too, which moves the scenes out of the realm of physical realism and closer to being a movie you watch in a boat. The use of projections to create some large expansive backdrops and transitions is genius, though. Even the original ride uses gobos and projected clouds moving across the sky to simulate a larger environment while indoors. BTW, Disneyland is in Anaheim, Orange County, not Los Angeles. ;)
I was there just last year in Shanghai Disneyland. I really enjoyed and I became a kid once again. Disneyland is truly magical, it will make you feel like a child again, even how old you are. Hopefully, everything will get back to normal, so I can visit Shanghai Disneyland again.
some people's minds work with brilliant ideas. I wouldn't be able to come up with ideas like that it amazes me. those projections were out of this world. and good acting.
Wow that is one amazing ride!! The use of the screens is perfectly done! It doesn’t have the charm of the original ride but based on spectacle alone I’d say A plus all around !! I’d love to ride this in person!!
Too bad there were a few hiccups (sliding door not functionning, animations resetting or out of sync (the duel on the upper desk), door opened behind Jack at the end...), but overall, this is a GREAT POV of a GREAT ride! So thank you very much for that!
When coming out of the davey jones scene the projection glitches bad, it goes from undersea to above sea "battle scene" then corrects itself back to undersea. And when boat is going backwards Into the ship the projection glitches again.
Jeff Glushien Yep, exactly. For the first one, normally there's a door at the exit of the Flying Dutchman, so you don't see the huge projection screen too soon. As for when it goes backward, I think it's a matter of de-synchronisation. Normally, the sword fight begins on the upper screen at the celling of the ship, but here, the two characters are already fighting in our back.
yeah, all I've seen is problems with the syncing of all the ride elements. It looks like they need to slow down how quickly they send through cars by just a few seconds. this type of ride is completely new for Disney though. Hopefully its the test, and we get the full version here in the U.S.
Yea, though they did an excellent job on getting the audio to loop seamlessly whenever the boat needs to stop - you actually barely notice the stops unless you know it doesn't mean to happen.
The animatronics and practical effects are absolutely incredible! Honestly the best damn effect is Jack Sparrow emerging from the skeleton. I had to stop the video and rewatch it 4 times to figure out how they did it. What a great blend of animatronic and projection technology! A+ That said, the over-reliance on big screens and CGI stuck out like a sore thumb. Did we really need the CG squid and boats? More practical setwork wouldn't be remiss in this attraction.
Yes same I was also amazed by seeing that how jack's skeleton changed into a body I repeated it 5 to 6 times to see more preciously but still I'm amazed that how it has been done I mean howww mannnnn!!!!!😰😱😱😳😳😳😳 Now I have to visit this place....
You have to be there in person to ride. The video doesnt do it justice. CGI and Animatronics are well blended perfectly on this ride. Other than not understanding a word thats said. Its an amazing ride.
As a Florida resident, and avid childhood disney go-er, I'm hurt. Where is this level of imagineering in the US parks?! This is a million times better than the aquatic merry-go round we have!
This video doesn’t do it justice. When we went on this ride, it was easily the best ride I’ve ever experienced (with Flight of the Passage in Animal Kingdom being second)
As great and important and charming the original is. It is incredible to see a version where they combine the original ride with the movies. And the music is love
Crazy to think that the movies were inspired from the first ride... and now it's the rides that are catching up with the movies. This one is incredible.
Some great effects. The skeleton to Jack Sparrow was amazing and his fingers moved. That said, I am not a huge fan of all the projection but overall it looks amazing.
blayedd Thanks for that idea. I agree. It might take some time, plus they're already working on the Star Wars land and probably more. They'd have to do this when they're done with everything else.
WOW absolutely stunned by this one, While yes this ride is more about watching screens over animatronic action the way how the screens go in with the scenery fits in so well Im totally shocked and it feels like your actually underwater during most of the ride.
A mix between pepper's ghost effect and projection mapping. The Jack Sparrow animatronic isnt lit, but the skeleton hiding somewhere (I think at the ceiling) is lit and projected to the position of the animatronic. They also put projections on Jack to make it look like the skeleton has a ghostly appearance. At a certain point where the glass area starts (Between the ship nets), the skeleton lightning is turned off and the lights on the ship turn on, causing the skeleton to no longer be projected (Notice how you can still see some parts of it, even if Jack appeared.) and Jack to appear. Then he does his preshow thing and the scene resets as the lights turn off for the next boat. So yeah. Thats how i think they did it.
aniki91344 Not even sure if there is. It kinda looks like it but might just be me. But the skeleton was made with the pepper's ghost effect. In this version, you are able to see the mirror because of the zoom and lighting.
Most excellent Disney Shanghai. This is way way better than what we have at Disneyland at Anaheim California and at Orlando Florida's Magic Kingdom. Big points to you guys without a doubt.
One of the most amazing Disney rides I have ever seen. I couldn’t understand a word and was still completely captivated by it. I wish they would build this in the states.

I wish Disney's Hollywood studios would build a separate attraction like this one based on the movies that way the classic can remain untouched.
GreenBean 31 this......may not be a bad idea.
I love that they added mermaids , it makes it a little more mysterious and adds that final touch

0r0k r4gn ほんとだ!
This was so much fun, I had to share it on my facebook, for my family & friends to see tomorrow.
The animatronics and practical effects are absolutely incredible! Honestly the best damn effect is Jack Sparrow emerging from the skeleton. I had to stop the video and rewatch it 4 times to figure out how they did it. What a great blend of animatronic and projection technology! A+
That said, the over-reliance on big screens and CGI stuck out like a sore thumb. Did we really need the CG squid and boats? More practical setwork wouldn't be remiss in this attraction.
I couldn't agree more
Yes same I was also amazed by seeing that how jack's skeleton changed into a body
I repeated it 5 to 6 times to see more preciously but still I'm amazed that how it has been done
I mean howww mannnnn!!!!!😰😱😱😳😳😳😳
Now I have to visit this place....
Amazing pov man! Much better than the other ones out there!
Thank you for sharing. For those of us with disabilities who could not make it to a Amusement Park ride you gave us great experience to enjoy.
Okay...that was freaking cool.
This video doesn’t do it justice. When we went on this ride, it was easily the best ride I’ve ever experienced (with Flight of the Passage in Animal Kingdom being second)
これは凄い!
どこまでが映像で、どこまでがリアルか分からないくらい、映像の使い方が凄い!!
As great and important and charming the original is. It is incredible to see a version where they combine the original ride with the movies. And the music is love
映像が多いっていうのも面白そうですね〜
Crazy to think that the movies were inspired from the first ride... and now it's the rides that are catching up with the movies. This one is incredible.
1周がめっちゃ長くてくそ楽しそう!!💖💖🎶
damn that's really impressive, the immersion during the ship battle is so good
日本のも大好きだけど、上海のはパイレーツオブカリビカンの世界観満載で行ってみたい!
Some great effects. The skeleton to Jack Sparrow was amazing and his fingers moved. That said, I am not a huge fan of all the projection but overall it looks amazing.
Idea: Disneys Hollywood Studios and California Adventure gets this version. The classics stay, everyone's happy
blayedd Thanks for that idea. I agree. It might take some time, plus they're already working on the Star Wars land and probably more. They'd have to do this when they're done with everything else.
Something about the pirate ships coming from the seabed to surface is just the sickest thing ever.
Wish to be able to visit one day!
手込みすぎだし長いしすげぇなまじで
これ上海だとメイン乗り物なのかな
りぃと 上海はカリブとピーターパンが凄かった気がする
The best and favorite ride ever at Shanghai Disneyland! Pirates of the Carribean is so cool! ✌
Went on this two times, it's awesome.
This is amazing. The original is a classic, but I hope this one gets added to a US park soon.
WOW absolutely stunned by this one, While yes this ride is more about watching screens over animatronic action the way how the screens go in with the scenery fits in so well Im totally shocked and it feels like your actually underwater during most of the ride.
What. The. Fuck. Why is this so much more amazing and technologically advanced than any ride I've ever seen?
This version of the ride far exceeds the one here in Orlando!! I t would be so worth seeing this one come to Orlando!!
OMG THAT'S WAS GREAT! it's looks so real... never find a ride like this before
Ok, that was awesome... How the heck did they pull off the skeleton to Jack Sparrow transformation thing? The one at 2:17 ?
That has to be some of the CLEANEST projection mapping effect I've ever seen on youtube, lol. It's wayyyy too good! hahaha.

Not even sure if there is. It kinda looks like it but might just be me. But the skeleton was made with the pepper's ghost effect. In this version, you are able to see the mirror because of the zoom and lighting.
Profanity
This is insane!!!! Shanghai Disney looks incredible
Sooo cool
We NEED this in America. The engineering is so mind blowing.
The gates were stuck open at 5:36, allowing guests to see the transition from the end of the ship-rising scene back to the beginning of it.
lol yea
the mix of screens and real set pieces really reminds me of harry potter and the forbidden journey, both are fantastic rides
This ride looks amazing. I can only imagine actually being on the ride. Awesome footage! Can someone please translate the script of the ride?
words can't describe this.. This is just freaking awesome
this. this ride is why i want to be an imagineer
Literally my dream job
Wow, the wonders an actual budget does.
Whoa, this looks *awe-inspiring!*
Also, we finally get a good view of the Kraken!
Most excellent Disney Shanghai. This is way way better than what we have at Disneyland at Anaheim California and at Orlando Florida's Magic Kingdom. Big points to you guys without a doubt.
A few...technical hicups this time around.
It's a shame considering this is so near perfect of a ride...
+coastertron The ride just came out. They'll fix it.
Something wrong with the gate. That gate should be closed until the show reset. It should be the gate open then guests could see the fleets raising up
other than the gate, didnt really catch any--am i missing something?
+Euclid Beane at 8:00 the ride isn't supposed to stop there and Jack Sparrow's movements in that scene are not in sync with the audio.
This is so awesome, I do love the ride in America but this looks so fun!! Kudos, Disney.
