My interpretation of the topics. Good talk: 7 Great techniques to practice as a servant leader: Cork - pause/stop and listen to respond not react. Puzzle Piece - value individuality and create a space where people feel they can be their true selves. Goal Post - good leaders give effective goal posts. Effective communication to produce great results. Servant leaders provide the goals, but empower the teams to figure out how to achieve them. Ladder - ladder of assumptions - seek to understand. We all have our perspective, seek to understand that of others. Penny - there are always 2 sides to every coin - your perspective only shows one side - flip the coin and ask great questions. Bucket - Praise and acknowledgement - fill up the buckets of others. Be specific with praise & acknowledgement. Jar - transparent - create a safe environment by not being defensive so others feel empowered to provide feedback and confidently vulnerable. Bonus: everybody wins when a leader gets better.
Thanks for this enriching topic on female servant leadership. Her aim was to empower her team by being a role model, by being grateful, by staying humble, asking the right questions, and by framing her perceptions in a manner that brings out the best among her team members. Yey! Cheering you on from the Philippines.
Absolutely wonderful! This week, I have been watching videos on how to deliver good speeches and none compared to what this presenter did. Excellent material delivered in a compelling manner. I definitely will share this video and look for more from this presenter.
I lead the most important person and that's ME. Very powerful ending statement Eli. I love that and is developing some Leadership Tidbits for Social Impact Globally. Very very helpful
This is fantastic, two of my bosses in the past have been exactly this and I felt like my job was amazing because of them. This stuff really does work. If I find myself in positional power I'm definitely going to be following these principles.
Just to clarify as I can see how it might be confusing. The servant leadership symbols/items are: 1. Cork 2. Puzzle piece 3. Goal post 4. Ladder 5. Penny 6. Bucket 7. Jar Thank you so much for watching, practicing and sharing these concepts! Tashi Deley!
Great talk and wisdom. Sorry, but I only counted 6 concepts- pause /stop, value individuality, praise and and acknowledge, ladder of assumption - seek to understand others, empowerment. Transparency. What did I miss. .?thanks
Yes friends it was the ladder and the penny (lumped in to one) ladder - assumptions and the penny - curiosity: seek to understand by asking good questions! Thank you for watching! Tashi Deley!
At 16:06 the jar has a mirror in it. She discusses the cork, puzzle piece, bucket, ladder, goalpost, and jar (6 items). The mirror is never discussed. Anyone know what that is for?
Robert, ohhhhh my goodness what a great catch, I mistakenly had that slide in there! I use the mirror (best self mirror, honesty mirror and blind spot mirror) all the time to grow in self awareness as I am huge student of emotional intelligence, and the truth is I had a hard time deciding on what items to talk about! 😂 thanks for catching that!
Mad_Uppercuts I scrolled down to leave my comment and figured out would be a thousand comments. This is by far one of the best TED Talks I've seen. I am baffled as to why there are not a thousand comments already.
Great video, well. said. She should probably learn how to count though...1) Stop and pause, 2) value individuality, 3) praise and acknowledgement, 4) assumptions and seeking to understand, 5) empowerment, and 6) transparency...
Does anyone know the name of this speaker. I caught some of iAllison Star can’t seem to find her anywhere. Great speaker would like to see more of her videos etc. thank you.

why does my school keep making us watch tedtalks why are we studying social hierarchies, prejudice, and emotionally supporting people in a music class *a goddamn m u s i c class*
This is odd... she sounds like a pre school school teacher, entertaining children... my Ego wants me to yell at the screen "WILL YOU STOP PATRONIZING ME". Not bad tho.
And I had to listen to her speak once and I found her to be incredibly incohesive. She traversed from subject to subject and didn’t make any connections.

I think this missed the penny - what’s the penny - developing others?
@@lindanieman4258 the penny is flipping the coin, meaning seek to understand.
Ahhhh, I missed the penny, I lumped the Ladder and Penny together as "assumptions". Thanks for clarifying!
Thanks for sharing.
Great talk and wisdom.
Sorry, but I only counted 6 concepts- pause /stop, value individuality, praise and and acknowledge, ladder of assumption - seek to understand others, empowerment. Transparency. What did I miss. .?thanks
I thought I only counted six as well but I think the 7th one was humility?
@@phupham4008 Yes! Humility is the one they're missing.
Assumptions and seek to understand - these count as # 4 and 5
Yes friends it was the ladder and the penny (lumped in to one) ladder - assumptions and the penny - curiosity: seek to understand by asking good
questions!
Thank you for watching!

Hi Ali, my organisation is looking for a virtual speaker to engage our top 150 leaders. How do I make contact with you? Interesting talk btw
Did she have to be a teacher before becoming an elementary school principal? If so, for how long?
amen
Excellent!!
Do you draw credit to yourself or to your team mates?
I did make an assumption, I assumed she would count to 10 not 7.
