Even though I prefer the studio version with Scott Kelly on vocals, when Troy's irreplaceable voice comes in with "BLESSED VISIONAAARY" it gives me chills every time! Fucking love this band!
The " blessed visionary" line to me was better than Scott.. deeper and a more personal feeling.. hell he nailed it all in his own way... Mastodon is my second favorite band but I don't lie and act like their the best live singers... But considering the fact that none of them are singers makes them the best with their album sounding live instrumentals
Kaykearo Maybe, but Troy isn't that much of a growler. Bill can handle that better then any of the other members of Mastodon. I just feel they should let Bill handle the growl vox.
Brandon Ronkartz I've seen them live a few times lol. There are some live vids you can find on YT of Bill covering some of the heavier growls that either guest singers did from earlier songs or from their old singer from the Remission album. Look up a live version of March of the Fire Ants from Sonisphere 2011
Damn! That is a technically clean performance. The vocals sound on point and the instruments are tite. These guys are simply fucking dope. I still haven't seen them live, they are conquering Europe the rest of 2016- but hopefully they'll go "Once more around the sun" and hit the US hard in 2017. I'm getting front row to this epic band.
Yes..Complain they did......Out of the 1 million-plus people who witnessed Mastodon perform "Crack the Skye" three people thought the album sounded better.LOL
To be fair it's more the vocals in general than lyrics, they especially in the earlier days vocally were very hit and miss live, not so much since later years and when I've seen them live they've been excellent but I have seen afew bad performances on videos and heard some not so positive live reviews, remember also they used to take alot of drugs that can definetly effect performances too. I dunno when I saw them they killed it that's all that matters to me
I believe they started working with vocal coaches later on in their career and their live performances have markedly improved. I saw them live last year when they opened for Ghost and the vocals were pretty great!
If I ever got to see them play this live..... I would shed a tear. Just the love for this song, it's background, and knowing You would be lucky to hear it.
The best show I’ve ever seen. Crack the skye all the way through. One of my favorite albums of all time. This album was the reason I could cope with the loss of my son. The album did what it could, but feeling this in person was nothing short of complete transcendence.
I hate when people bitch about how Mastodon can't sing live. They sing fine, I'd like to see you try and go up there and play what they play and sing at the same time.
I mean they aren’t exactly classically trained vocalists, they are in a metal band. You could argue the vocals on the album suck as well, but it works with their music.
I remember going to go see dethklok and mastodon opened for them , I was completely stoned when they played this song and they face melted me . I've been a fan ever since
Was at this performance in Chicago - that whole night was fucking awesome. Mastodon filming this. Dethklok on before them. High on Fire and Converge opening.
As a whole, each person contributes enough to the songs that imperfect singing is totally excusable. They do a pretty good job, and I think the're on fucking point in this video.
Dude I had the great chance to see them at this album release Neumos in Seattle .....One of the best shows of my life annnnnnd I've been to a few banner shows lol
Monthly i find myself back here on this vid. Prolly already commented. But damn troy is the heart and vains of mastodon he screams deeper than scott live back up sings on braans and brents vocals while nobody back up sings his verses and all while killing that bass...fucking troy
I can only assume the people who are knocking this version don't play instruments and have never played a live gig, if they have I really doubt they can play at this level.
@Arcenicum i think you'll find if you look a little harder that it is a Gibson. The headstocks a different shape than an Epiphone, plus, it says Gibson on it. There isn't really a good shot of the headstock but if you watch from about 3:45 to about 3:55 you can make it out.
@MrJamesodon Its Actually in AGCFAD and Bill was the only one using a 9 string. The 9 string also happens to be in a diffrent style than a regular 9 string. It has EAD strings as single strings and GBE are doubled up as if it where a twelve string.
Wow that sounds exactly like the album version..... (well the music) vocals still good. Wicked band hopefully will get to see you guys when you come to new zealand!! damm being a poor student
I was at this show, and my god it was an amazing one. so awesome. intronaut and kylesa didn't disappoint in the fucking least either. a mind numbingly awesome show!
@CromequazN7 yes, because they have to play along to the recording of the weird voice thing, and they were going to fast before that. So Brann slowed it down to be recording tempo.
Yeah he's doing a great job on vocals. Always has. I like how hes vocals sound kinda 'distance' like behind a wall. On the album version i think Scott Kelly sings the verse parts.
man, definitely gonna get this DVD , seriously, great performances , and the vocals are so good... wish the audio quality was a little better, hopefully will be in the DVD ...
@yeeeeeeeoman I see, you're right. I thought the Gibson had trapezoid inlays instead of rectangular ones and the diamond on the headstock was an Epiphone logo. I've got an Epiphone LP Custom myself, so I thought this was the same guitar.
What the fuck? I'm not a hipster, I'm just stating a fact. Mastodon is one of the most acclaimed and popular metal bands making music today. And for good reason, they're amazing. Blood Mountain, Crack the Skye and The Hunter all had high spots on the Billboard Top 200.
Brann brings tears to my eyes, his emotions are his drumset. At some points he looks as if he is going to cry... i just want to hug him and say... "Just cry..."
Even though I prefer the studio version with Scott Kelly on vocals, when Troy's irreplaceable voice comes in with "BLESSED VISIONAAARY" it gives me chills every time! Fucking love this band!
witchsabbath13 His vocal performance here makes me think he would do some awesome death metal
detnyeriket have you heard their old shit dude??? Listen to troys growls from back in the day
The " blessed visionary" line to me was better than Scott.. deeper and a more personal feeling.. hell he nailed it all in his own way... Mastodon is my second favorite band but I don't lie and act like their the best live singers... But considering the fact that none of them are singers makes them the best with their album sounding live instrumentals
Saw Mastodon together with Gojira and Slayer, all my favorite bands on one night
Dude, that's awesome. Congratulations
Goddamn, how are you still alive!!!
That must’ve been insane man
Please tell Lucifer he can't have this one
Her spirits too strong
It's written all over your face
I can see the pain
You can make it all go away
troy's a fucking badass for pulling this shit off.
Everyone here is raving about Troy nailing Scott Kelly's part but not a peep about that beautiful chorus from Brann?
Nellson Stout Brann is amazing
Ever since Brann started singing, This band, went from Crazy good, to unstoppable
Nellson Stout because we’re spoiled by his near constant bad ass-ery
That Chorus is ten times better when stoned. I do reccomend.
Brann carries mastodon
Such a sad story behind this song R.I.P Skye Dailor
This is how you mix clean vocals with growling.
Seriously top notch singing Troy.
They coulda had Bill do the growl-voc lyrics. He roars like a fuckin dinosaur
+Vigilante606 Bill can growl, but I think that Troy's voice is deeper for these vocals.
Kaykearo Maybe, but Troy isn't that much of a growler. Bill can handle that better then any of the other members of Mastodon. I just feel they should let Bill handle the growl vox.
Like a ............Mastodon?
Vigilante606 how do you know? as far as I know bill doesn't do vocals on any mastodon tracks
The very first line is probably the most epic I've ever heard Troy's voice. I wish he could scream like that more often!
Nice to see that Troy can still give off those Remission vibe growls
Liam Ganesh he destroyed every remission growls/screams with this performance imo... BLESSED VISIONAAAAARRRYYYYY!
Brann emotion and passion on this song is absolutely breathtaking. Plus that chorus is absolutely beautiful.
Its about his sister that passed
Mastodon deserve their own metal genre...Transcendent Metal
Look at Troy just belt those lyrics out while he's playing that nasty riff. That's true talent right there my friends.
Mastadon has become one of my all time favorite bands. Ive been a metal head since 1983
Damn! That is a technically clean performance. The vocals sound on point and the instruments are tite. These guys are simply fucking dope. I still haven't seen them live, they are conquering Europe the rest of 2016- but hopefully they'll go "Once more around the sun" and hit the US hard in 2017. I'm getting front row to this epic band.
they've only gotten better over the years - saw them last fall with judas priest and it was the best night of my life.
I saw them on that tour with priest at the warfield in SF
Shawn Carter, right!
People complain about Mastodon's live lyrics, but I think these are fucking great, especially the clean parts.
I believe they started working with vocal coaches later on in their career and their live performances have markedly improved. I saw them live last year when they opened for Ghost and the vocals were pretty great!
this performance is fucking incredible
My two favorite things. Mastodon and old school Transformers voices, live nonetheless. I can die happy.
Crack the Skye is the best album I've heard so far from them. I can't stop listening to them.
1:05 you clearly can see a mastodon singing in his natural habitat.
I've listened to this 12 times today. . .I think I need help
+david Na may be you need a 13th time...........................
BTW this performance is SICK!!!! >:D
No help needed. Let the music FLOW !! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Nah bro you're cured!
david Na you needed help getting to 13 times
It's so hard.
Incredible performance
If I ever got to see them play this live..... I would shed a tear. Just the love for this song, it's background, and knowing You would be lucky to hear it.
Well FUCK. Troy fucking aced the Scott Kelly part.
What part is Scott Kellys?
BooNillaHD "Blessed visionary cut me with your sun...", etc
Lucas Belintani Thats what i thought, Troy and him have a such a similar vocal style
I always thought that was Brent because it didn't quite sound like Troy.
And Troy and Brann's harmonies are super euphoric
In Mastodon we TRUST!!Greetings from GREECE!
How does the drummer sing like that while playing the drums at that pace. A legand!
The best show I’ve ever seen. Crack the skye all the way through. One of my favorite albums of all time. This album was the reason I could cope with the loss of my son. The album did what it could, but feeling this in person was nothing short of complete transcendence.
Hell yeah man. Mastodon is the most original metal band in a looooooooong time.
Especially Brann! How that man can sing and play like that at the same time I'll never understand lol
Absolutely MONSTROUS! Insanely good performance of one of the best metal songs ever. Rock on, Mastodon 🤘
I remember going to go see dethklok and mastodon opened for them , I was completely stoned when they played this song and they face melted me . I've been a fan ever since
Mastodon. Heavy. Fucking. Metal. Elegantly written.
it gets me in the heart when he says, "momma don't let them take her"
I literally cant stop listening to that song
Was at this performance in Chicago - that whole night was fucking awesome. Mastodon filming this. Dethklok on before them. High on Fire and Converge opening.
What a show. Damn
4:06 is one of the most fucking CRUSHING riffs ever.
Brents part throughout this song is one of my favorite guitar parts in all of mastodon discography
God, Troy is amazing here !
R.I.P. Skye you didnt deserve to go like that
Just saw these guys live. I was concerned that Brent wouldn't sound good, but he sounded great. Troy did too, but I expected that.
Really tight live.
Troy is a fucking beast!!! Gaaaahhh!!!
The harmonized vocals at 1:18 are truly epic. The best part of the song :)
Sounds so good live, I'm astonished.
the beauty of this song is just amazing.
I almost shit my pants when Troy started singing. Fucking incredible.
MAMA DON'T LET THEM TAKE HERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
holy hell troy
This band is too cool when there vocals can take it. So tight.
Crack the Skye is a masterpiece, just a whole other level than The Hunter. One of my all time favorite albums.
As a whole, each person contributes enough to the songs that imperfect singing is totally excusable. They do a pretty good job, and I think the're on fucking point in this video.
how can this not have a few million views..
I'll be the first to say, Troy killed it here. I know not first lol. Just adding to the pile. Such a sad story but amazing performance.
Troy's voice is just monstrous
Literally the only time I've seen Brent with a Les Paul Custom
Literally my favorite guitar ever. I think the one he has was an 82, hard to tell without seeing the back
He’s got 2 goldtop standards that I know of
Troy is a Metal Star for sure...
THis and Siberian divide to me are two of mastodons best songs and most unheralded.
Tyler Jacobson Siberian divide is badass
Siberian divide makes my metal bone wiggle.
simply amazing. This band is one of a kind!!!
That "BLESSED VISIONAAARYYYYYY" was probably Troy's best growl of all time.
EPIC im buying this for sure, the czar and the last baron in surround sound MIND'S SHALL BE BLOWN!
Dude I had the great chance to see them at this album release Neumos in Seattle .....One of the best shows of my life annnnnnd I've been to a few banner shows lol
For as long as my heart beats, Skye will still exist. I am so sorry for your pain, Bronn.
That solo was quite spine chilling.
They are mainstream, they're one of the most popular metal bands today. That doesn't mean they're bad.
I am so upset that I never got the chance to see Mastodon do this entire album live :(
Weight of worlds is on your shoulders
Hear the voice of gold
I can see the pain
It's written all over your face
Masterful performance
The one thing I love about this live video is it harks back to the days of 70's live videos in that it has none of that MTV quick cut style :D
Do you know what this song is about? Shit, it damn near makes me cry.
8 years latter, but this song is about the sister's suicide of one of the members (i can't remember who)
@@ziegh5369 Skye Dailor. Brann Dailor’s (the drummer) sister.
Monthly i find myself back here on this vid. Prolly already commented. But damn troy is the heart and vains of mastodon he screams deeper than scott live back up sings on braans and brents vocals while nobody back up sings his verses and all while killing that bass...fucking troy
Major props to Troy, doing growly type vocals and then switching to clean vocals is no easy feat.
I wish the sound on the CD was a bit better. The opening sentence is cut off on this song, however, i still rock out to it everyday.
Learning about Dailor's sister completely changed this song, and made it more important for me.

Troy actually kind of sounds like Scott when he covers his studio parts. Hats off to him.
This song is so powerful.
They have, like the videos on here of "Dry Bone Valley" and "All The Heavy Lifting" are virtually flawless.
masterpiece
Wow that sounds exactly like the album version..... (well the music) vocals still good. Wicked band hopefully will get to see you guys when you come to new zealand!! damm being a poor student
the chorus is... i can't say it in words
I was at this show, and my god it was an amazing one. so awesome. intronaut and kylesa didn't disappoint in the fucking least either. a mind numbingly awesome show!
Awesome performance
I REALLYYYYY wanna see them again as i saw them in bristol with toti moshi and they are amazinggg!!!! \m/
@CromequazN7 yes, because they have to play along to the recording of the weird voice thing, and they were going to fast before that. So Brann slowed it down to be recording tempo.
my fav mastodon song hands down.
Truly epic live performance
i just must listen this song every day !
please mastodon, release this in blu ray!
Starting to believe the new best drummer award go to ......
great playlist
Yeah he's doing a great job on vocals. Always has. I like how hes vocals sound kinda 'distance' like behind a wall.
On the album version i think Scott Kelly sings the verse parts.
Guitars are just pitch perfect!
man, definitely gonna get this DVD , seriously, great performances , and the vocals are so good... wish the audio quality was a little better, hopefully will be in the DVD ...
Oh my god the bass at the very beginning is absolutely fucking epic.
@yeeeeeeeoman
I see, you're right. I thought the Gibson had trapezoid inlays instead of rectangular ones and the diamond on the headstock was an Epiphone logo. I've got an Epiphone LP Custom myself, so I thought this was the same guitar.
Troy can fucking growl! Holy shit
Beautiful

I saw Mastodon at Sonisphere in Switzerland and it was so nice !!!! :D \m/
Brann brings tears to my eyes, his emotions are his drumset. At some points he looks as if he is going to cry... i just want to hug him and say... "Just cry..."
I should'nt watch Mastodon before bed..
