I picked up the Ozark Trail 7.5” knife and what impressed me instantly was the action. Excellent. The materials are not the best but had they upgraded them this knife could have been a gem. As is it is a good buy for $10.
The Ozark Trail D2 knife is getting a fair amount of hate from the knife community. As someone who prefers US made premium made knives and carries a Benchmade or Spyderco on a regular basis, I didn’t have high expectations of this knife, especially for $10. After buying one at my local Walmart and carrying it as my EDC, I have to say I’m fairly impressed with the knife. It’s not a premium knife like the Benchmade, but for $10 it is a great value. For most people who need a simple pocket knife for basic tasks, it’s up to the task and is a great budget priced alternative.
I see Aftermarket companies sprouting behind this. Someone already released the 3d files for handle scales. Imagine 3D printing in carbon fiber, or wood filament scales with staining.
I got one. Took it for a spin today (commercial havc). It was fine. Felt like maybe a $10 knife. No reason to replace a tried and true $30 folder (petrified fish 818 for me). Imma try it as a beater to keep wear off of my PF, but I'd be surprised to get more than 2 months out of it.
I recently saw a guy that Rockwell tested three of these, which an actual hardness tester, not files, and they were all within 1 point of 61. He concluded that that was good for D2 and consistent enough for a mass produced blade.
That's true for that batch but there are many others that had bad heat treatments I got 3 and first tip I ever had crack on me cutting rubber hose the knife is well worth 10$
If you look outside of Benchmade for a similar style knife at a reasonable price there are a lot of choices besides the Ozark Trail knife. I do have a couple of the Ozark Trail knives in D2 and so far they are great! If used as a light duty pocket knife as designed the Ozark Trail D2 knife will do anything the the bugout will do at 1/18th the price!! Benchmade brought this competition on all by them selves with their ridiculous pricing for what their knives are. Benchmade could do much better with the pricing of their knives but they have backed them selves into a corner with their marketing strategy and now they are stuck.
I used to only buy American made knives but they're all stolen now. I just stick to mora and cold steel. Today I just purchased a sencut for 40$ i am curious to see how it goes.
@@DeffoZappo With a Global economy that has been thrusted upon us, I'm not loyal to any business anymore. If you have what I want at a fair price I'll buy it! For the American companies that complain about copies and knock offs of their products, you did it to your selves with your price protected business models( to many fingers in the pot before the customer can ultimately purchase your product ). The door has been opened for anyone around the world to compete for the dollar, and that door will never close.
@@wayneanderson991 I agree and technically it's the working model of capitalism what is being done to Benchmade. It's funny because if they lower their price then they devalue the products their customers have already bought. I had a pardue griptillian and I loved it but it was 100$ I am not willing to spend 150$ for that knife
@@DeffoZappo Exactly right about the working model of capitalism! With modern CNC machining Benchmade and others better wake up to the fact that anyone can now make high quality fit and finish knives, the only difference is in materials. I recently purchased a 560 super freek copy. It is truely amazing and it was 1/10th the cost of the " real one". The D2 blade steel that it has sharpens and holds an edge as you would expect for D2. It is more than adequate for any pocket knife use I have, and I'm not afraid to use it because of cost.
I agree their prices are crazy but I believe it has something to do with the military. they mark everything way up to civilians so they can charge the government x amout. My understanding is that companies can only make so much profit off the government. companies like Surefire, KAC , H&K are much more expensive than similar products and I think that's why.
I just bought it out of curiosity. Now my fingers are sore from playing with it. And its possible to cut yourself playing with it. And ive dropped it four times at least Wouldnt recommend for a child.
Thanks for the video. Not a big fan of this knife but I'm a crazy knife person 😊 But. I believe that it will have some positive outcomes for the industry in general. It will introduce more people into knives, because now mass consumers have access to a decent tool for only 10 bucks. As for Bugout. It's not a fair comparison. The only job for Bugout is to give a maximum lightweight knife with a decent amount of blade. And for its purpose its doing great. Are there better options on the market right now? Yes, there are. But for 120 usd that it's been released, it was a good deal. And destruction tests will not do it any justice.
Bought two. Listening to the hype. Everyone said it a 10 dollar knife. Well it is truly a 10 dollar knife. After a short time I have reached the conclusion it is just junk. . Yes it truly a 10 dollar knife and I got what I paid for. Too many problem with them.
That's crazy I was about to say you probably bought a lemon, but the fact that you bought two. That really sucks bro I'm sorry for your luck. I got lucky and mine's is badass. I took it home immediately knocked off the factory edge and resharpened it, it's one of my favorite knives now. It's also easy to get hair whittling sharp.
@@alexolivarez732 Yeah that dude must have had really bad luck. I bought a few even before the hype just an xmas presents for a few family members since i like to build small SHTF kits for them, and kept 2 for myself - one for my daily and another as a surplus. I really like mine. I know he said too many problems but didnt specify any of them issues, but the only issue i had was a slight side to side wobble which a T8 torx immediately solved. have had mine for a few months, mainly cutting cardboard since i unpack a lot of IT hardware for data centers and i have yet to sharpen it. Love it, and if it fails me at some point which cant be fixed, i got another one that can carry on. Still October dang it, i dont have to give the other ones i got for xmas presents and just keep them myself lol. Hard to say that about a knife you paid over 200 bucks for like the benchmade brand it took the expired patent from .
I have one I've had no problems with it you're just a hater somebody to spend $250 on a knife and you could have got the same thing for $180 cheaper dumbass
I bought a Benchmade for $305 dumbest thing I ever did I lost it and I spent days trying to find it if I lose this knife all I got to do is spend 10 bucks to get a new one best got good steal does the same s*** as a bug out

Bugout is such a basic flimsy knife, it should be worth like 65 at most. Thats probably why people like this knife. its a good value

Agreed 👍 for tasks that most people use for edc it’s more than enough and capable
