    This knife does it all good and not one thing exceptional. That’s why it’s a perfect edc knife. People say it’s not slicey 😂. Ofcourse it’s not like an TRM shadow but the shadow lacks the strength of the 940 blade. If I want too slice tomatoes for sushi I don’t use an edc folder so all that not slicey crap is 💩. This knife is great for a reason. They do need to upgrade the steel for the price though these days. The new magnacut version is awesome but ofcourse Benchmade throws a 100 bucks on top of the knife. While Spyderco has newer knife’s same price with upgraded steels.

    How many passes would you recommend? I know it depends on dullness; say I have a barely dull blade. A few passes on fine, ceramic, strop? I have like 50 knives and have tried stones and what not. Trying the work sharp before deciding to drop real coin on a Lansky bench set. Really want to master the basics… I keep fucking up with every sharpener I try somehow.

    I have one of the new Wharnie WE banters with Unlocked Composites CF scales and a milled clip and I like it way way more than my flytanium Ti bugout Also when I bought my bugout I instantly regretted it and felt like I’d been mugged looking at that price tag and feeling the grivory scales 😂 once I got the titanium scales I was able to appreciate it a lot more, I’m glad I got it now. But I probably wouldn’t do it over again.

    Man, I'm like you as far as knives, blades, etc ... And I too take a gander at the knives in Walmart whenever I can.... And I ran across this one the other day, and there was only one of this type hanging on a spinning display sitting on the counter above the knife display section. As soon as I picked it up I notice the weight of it, and then I noticed how much I liked the blade. Like the shape and it's appearance. Price above it said something like $7.97, but I started thinking that this knife was probably in wrong place and I'd get to checkout and it surely cost more...... I'm happy to say it was the correct price. I sat in my jeep and opened it before leaving like a kid that can't wait till they get home, lol, and I was further impressed. It shaved the hair on my leg straight from the packaging.... And I've never had that happen before. Not even with knives costing 4-5 times more than this unnamed, Ozark Trail knife made in China. I'm not sure if it's the metal or the shape of the blade or what exactly that makes it so this blade is so freaking sharp, but I love it! I'm a little scared to sharpen it when the time comes bc I'm not sure if I'll be able to maintain this perfect, razor-sharp edge. The blade shape is incredible to me. I regularly pick an Ozark Trail fixed blade with the plastic sheaths for $5.97, and they're not the greatest, but for those prices, if it appeals to me then I grab it. So my point being that while I don't really take Ozark Trail super serious as far as quality knives, I am 2 days in and only growing more fond of this knife. I'm not usually the type to go for this type of handle, I lean more towards tactical\survival looking designs. Usually with a good grip when wet like G10, etc, and I was concerned this handle and its heaviness may present some danger as far it accidentally slipping from my hand but nawwww, she stays in place and has a balance that I like although it maybe a little heavier handle-side then I usually would care for, as I'm a knife-thrower as well, the things like balance stand out to me. Calm down.... I'd never throw this one unless I had too😂. Anyways, I better hit my brakes before I write a book to you about how much I love knives, not all of them, but all types. Oh man...like machetes and survival and the type of swords that Leonardo would have strapped to his back lol jk katanas, etc. oddly though I've yet to acquire any of those. I believe it's because I want ones that I'm drawn to aesthetically, but that can be used as well. Cuz I truly use mine. Got maybe 2-3 that I don't use and sometimes I wonder why I chose those to stay like new when they really aren't special or significant above any of the others. Anyhow....... My apologies for rambling. Thanks for vid and info on this knife. I was just curious to see if anyone else had stumbled upon this one and if they also felt as I do, as you do? If anyone thinks this knife is bad-az, irregardless of price? The price is a bonus, but it also causes your mind to think that if it's this cheap then it can't be this good! If they refuse to give these knives distinguishing names, then how do they expect people to look them up, or spread the word by mentioning it's model? IDK. Glad I found this one. Maybe I got lucky and got the sharpest one possible. I'm curious to know if they're consistently sharp from knife to knife? I have an Ozark Trail small fixed blade that looked cool but absolutely refuses to become an edge-holding, usable tool. I've tried different sharpeners and angles, etc and it just seems that the blade is incapable of being and staying sharp. Have you ever had an issue similar? BTW, before I go. What's your favorite sharpening method? And before you say it depends on what you're sharpening, let's just stick with pocketknives\smaller fixed blades. As much as I love knives, shamefully I must admit that it took me a very long time before I found a method that worked for me, and almost consistently across all blades sizes and types, even drop point, etc. Is it unusual for a blade lover to struggle getting to where they can properly sharpen their knives? Just curious. Not holding you to answering all this...well take care Brother and if you read to this point you might be the type of person that I'd assumed you were in the first place...lol. I need sleep...worked all night and I should know by now to not try communicating when sleep is needed this much ..later man

      I agree 100% with you man ! This was an excellent little find! It is hard to find any information (as far as video reviews) out there , because the knives don’t have names ! I have had trouble with sharpening some budget knives that are supposed to have soft steels and easy to sharpen … I have done a little digging into some sharpening information , and sometimes too soft of steel you end up just rounding off your edge because it’s so soft . From what I can tell it may be better to take a more conservative approach , sharpen a little …test on paper…sharpen a little…. Test in paper etc….. some of the budget knives could be anything from a surgical stainless , 3cr15mov, Aus 8 , 8Cr13mov etc… I use the Worksharp guided field sharpener for all of my folding pocket knives. Thanks for watching and for your comment on the channel !

    I have a problem with sharpening 940. It's sharp, but the geometry of the knife dont alowes too bee razor sharp ass Exe.Bagout . But it's like multi tool after 7 ares of using it. I like 940, and for camping and work, it's really reliable . Also, Benchmade has one of the best customer services for spear parts.

    • @RockyMountainEDC
      @RockyMountainEDC 12 днів тому

      It does have a thick profile which will make it harder to get as thin slicey as bugout . However I would argue that it can still be very sharp . You also have to consider what the factory edge angle is they put on the knife … example some manufacturers put on a 15 degree, or 18, 20 or even a 12. And obviously the really thick knives will have 20+. If you are trying to put a 15 degree edge on a 20 degree edge knife . You are fitting against 1. The natural edge angle put on. 2. The edge angle chose was specific for the knife’s geometry and blade steel . Check out and see what the 940s factory angle is and make sure your sharpening at that angle

    I understand the criticisms about the bugout. I criticise it intellectually too but in the real world: the Bugout cf is the invisible, barely there knife that makes it into my pocket I have other, much “better” knives (CRK’s, Hinderers) but this exact knife, the cf version, is in my pocket every day coz i don’t have to think about it or feel its presence Wish they would update the blade steel though but S30 is perfectly functional. I just want magnacut because everyone else has magnacut 😀

    Steel - PM2 (it doesn't ONLY come in S35VN, that's just the one you have there) Ergos - PM2 (seriously, how did you pick the 940, the PM2 is an ergonomic miracle) Lock type - PM2 (940 if you're a lefty) Handle material - PM2 Weight - 940 Pocket carry - 940 Deployment - PM2 Price / value - PM2 Cutting - PM2 Blade shape - PM2 (that distal taper is genius, hard use at the base, finesse at the tip) Customization - PM2 PM2 wins, easily.

    The screw driver tip on the can opener makes a very good Phillips driver, and the tip of the nail file works well on those tiny Phillips screws on electronics. Filing a very tiny flat on the tip of the nail file makes it work even better on tiny Phillips screws. Just two or three passes with the file, don't over do it. The cadet has abed a daily EDC for me for a few decades now, with only the Victorinox classic as an accompanying tool. With those two, I don't carry any other knife.

    My all time favourite edc. I work in construction and live rural on a farm in Australia. I’ve been using the same 940 daily for 8+yrs and is a workhorse. As a edc for an all round/everyday it is beyond its class. I love my Spyderco PM2, great knife but it doesn’t perform as well in everyday tasks. PM2 is great for going on a picnic to use to cut fruit & food, carry for protection as a slicing type knife. I use my knife daily at work and on the farm for everything. From cutting straps, rope, insulation, even use it sometimes to pry things (yes I know 😂). The 940 just keeps taking it.
