YO theres this really cool guy at harvard named Suan Sonna, he typically does scholarly work(intellectual catholicism on youtube) but he was in the prenovitiate with the dominicans so im sure he would love to sing the hours with you
Congratulations! The gift of life in Christ, and "the new assignment"! I love the "sing the hours", and passed on awareness of this beautiful production to our chapter of the OFS I aspire to join. What a beautiful way to celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours. Thank you, both!
I’m going to seminary in August. I’m getting a dumb phone. Do you recommend purchasing an office of readings or wait until they update the divine office hours?
I suspect I have ADHD I found it interesting you mentioned reading books in tone in HS and college I used to read books I thought were boring in tones in help my brain focus.
This was great! Especially the education about metrical tunes! In the future i hope you expand on this topic of metrical hymns, like your favorites each season, and the tunes you recommend Im having this difficulty with the Latin hymns i want to sing with traditional divine office; a long tune works for a text but it's too cheerful 😅 and doesn't fit the meaning, so id like to gather flexible tunes
More of this please! Thank you - very helpful. I've tried singing the hours using the Breviary app - but failed. I'll try again. One question please - why is there a cross printed, in certain places, next to the text?
It's not a cross, it's a "dagger," † it means to follow a different intonation, notice how when we sing the psalms I put the "pointings" up on the top right of the screen. Notice there is a corresponding dagger and star in the notes. If there is a triplet of lines then you do the "flex" pointings, going down two notes in this case, before returning to the usual tone.
You put too much emphasis on chanting and singing. While the GILH highly encourages singing and chanting, it isn't necessary. You make me feel like my prayer is suboptimal because you never say that recitation is okay. I recite the LotH because I am not musically inclined. Attempting to sing and chant detracts from my prayer because I'm emphasizing the wrong thing. You should make it clear that pure recitation is acceptable to the Lord our God.
I think the point he’s getting at that it is something to try and you don’t need much to get started. He even gives those recto tono and reciting tones just to try to demonstrate that you don’t have to have a good singing voice to sing the hours. Yes, of course you can recite it.
@@dadrifter0912 He needs to say that singing, chanting, recto tono is all unnecessary. The LotH can be prayed without any music whatsoever. Chanting/Singing is encouraged and not required. Otherwise, he is excluding people like me who like all music ability and want to focus on prayer rather than attempting so sing.

Congrats on the baby❤
I use Bishop Barons monthly LofTH … but your Hymms never match those you sing. Why??
I use the monthly LofTH as well and I’m wondering the same thing.
Yeah they seem to be different everywhere
Congrats on the baby❤🎉🎉

How to use Christian prayer one volume or the four volume Liturgy if the Hours is the dilema. No matter how it’s explained 🤪
🕯
Happily many parishes are ditching the “On Eagles Wings” and “Gift of Finest Wheat” crap.
You do realize its H20, of two Hydrogen 😂 Thank you for the life update + rant
Scholars debate. 😆
I clicked a thumbs up and it remained 0…?
This is so awesome!!

Thank you, that makes sense. I'll use the marks when I next chant.

I am grateful for this site! Never give up because of complaints.
