@@readsomebooks666 I studied performing arts, had to do a lot of duets etc. Obviously rehearsals help, but if there's no chemistry there or one performer isn't giving everything they have in their performance, you're likely not to get a performance as great as this. They had practice but part of the reason they effortlessly worked together singing this was because they had chemistry and gave their best

So my father got me started on old films, mostly due to the fact that he was completely blind and had lost sight totally around the time I was born, so anything we'd watch together was always old because he could remember seeing it, and could watch it in his head. This movie started an obsession with Dean Martin, because I was a kid and had no idea how famous he actually was. John Wayne is my favorite actor, and Dean Martin is still my favorite singer. This movie has so much nostalgia for me, and this scene brings back so many great memories. End nostalgia rant.

I remember the moment , when Dean Martin started to sing . It mesmerized me. His voice filled out the movie theatre . Was as sweet as molasses on a warm sunny day. Only much latter I have learned that he was training his vocal cords by singing to a board held in front of his mouth , to hear his own aliquots ( a very short frequencies "surrounding" the main sung notes ). Still years later I discovered an incredibly subttle vibrato that was all his. Stating it simply , Dino was a fantastically professional and talented singer. Thank to people like him this world is well worth living in it. The beauty that they give to all of us.

I was 22 when I was listening to this master class song. My boss who is much older, stopped and just watched me sand a large street sign I was refurbishing. I was singing along, and then he starts to sing along startling me. We finished singing the song. He put his hand on my shoulder and said, “It’s very rare to come across a person who loves these kind of classics, let alone someone of your age, I’m impressed Young-inn” 8 years working together. He was thee perfect boss. And the perfect person for me to meet at that time. I was New in a large city. Scared/nervous, No family near by. Young and stupid. On my own. But he, he did everything you could possibly ask of another person. But I never asked. He knew. He had been there before. He did because he was truly a good person with an even greater heart. He taught me an insane amount. I was doing things I never thought I could ever do. He was patient, understanding, calm, persistent, extremely generous with not only his time but money. Always willing to teach me everything, even though it might take me a long time to understand. He rarely if ever got frustrated with me. He Truly taught me some patience. And if he was ever on the phone with people he would tell them, “Don’t worry, I’m hear for you, I shall take care of it” in his calm friendly voice. Now he’s gone,,, I know I wasn’t worthy of his kindness, his knowledge, his patience, his everything. May sound crazy, “I get it” I believe he was an angel there for me in my time of need. To end this sob story. 1. Kirk, I miss you! and you were truly a father figure to me in every sense of the words. 2. I’m sorry for the rest of the world to not have a BOSS nearly as good as him. It’s not a great idea to write this while listening to this beautiful song. I can barely see the screen right now. So, that’s it.
    Miss you boss man….

I'm retired USN , I always struggled to be "this kind' of boss! Everywhere I transferred from, the people that had worked for me cried and often begged me not to go! Several times, through the years, my colleagues asked me why the people that worked for me, got more awards and attained promotion more quickly than THEIR compatriots! I just said "MY job, is to train the people that work for me, to TAKE OVER MY JOB!" If they didn't understand THAT, "THEY" were beyond my ability to help them.
I really hope that many people felt like that and if I were to read a letter like that, aimed at me, I would have been thrilled beyond belief! My kids asked me several times through the years, why many of my subordinates cried when I left, I just told them, that hopefully one day, they'd have someone who worked for them - FEEL that way! My son has multiple people that work for him now, he and I hadn't been very close (for several reasons) through the years, he called me up the other day and we talked for HOURS. He ended up thanking me, for SEVERAL of the "life lessons" that I had taught him, as far as handling subordinates... I cried when he hung up - I didn't realize how much of what I'd told him, had actually stuck with him! I just hope he's become "the kind of boss", that I ALWAYS strove to be! Thank you Stanley!!!

It would've been so easy for this scene to make the whole film go south--basically bringing the plot to a halt for the sake of a couple songs--and I've seen that very thing happen in other movies.
Here, this was hands down my favorite part of Rio Bravo. It shows characters that are going to fight together bonding and further humanizes them to the audience. Plus when you have a music legend like Dean Martin on screen, you *gotta* flaunt it. (And of course it really helps that the songs are really catchy)

All major talented stars of their time and movies were made to entertain people because they had to go to a movie theatre to see them. This movie along with so many others as stood the test of time and immortalized the actors who are long gone.
