@@martijnvanspaendonck7989 If I recall, they did that for the Live at the Marquee concert in 1993. They replaced almost all of LaBrie's vocals with studio overdubs. So no. They do admit when they do edits. Hell, half of the guitars of Under A Glass Moon in this concert were overdubbed in studio (not because John messed up, but because someone unplugged his guitar accidentally). But I would prefer to hear anyone who went to this show to confirm.
In all the videos from the Score DVD there are good comments about LaBrie's singing. In my opinion that year (2006) was his last good year in concerts, his singing has been going downhill since 2007, improved a little bit in 2011-2012 but still there's a huge gap between his singing and the rest of the band and it's been more noticeable in these past few years. Nowadays I think he's a liability in a band with super talented musicians like DT.

If only LaBrie would stick to this kind of style. Lately, he's trying too hard to have some kind of Death Metal voice specially in live performances, which obviously doesn't fit his style. Just stick to what already works.
Death metal? Which kind of death metal have you been listening to? Because, if anything, he sometimes (Wacken 2015) sounds like a chicken, and sometimes (Live at Luna Park) sounds like himself. Never heard him trying to go low and raspy or shrieking high (Probably because he knows his throat is not exactly in great shape and his vocals are strained enough to do the stupidity of growl, shriek or scream too much)
Such an amazing dvd. I highly recommend Score, because it is maybe the last great vocal performances from LaBrie, and flawless with every other musician, especially Portnoy and Petrucci. As much as I like Mangini, god do I miss MP.
Part of the reason James doesn't sing in the stratosphere anymore is because he's aging. There's only so much you can do to keep your range over time. Eventually the upper register will be so sensitive he'll risk rupturing something again and wind up sounding like Rod Stewart for the rest of his life. The move to lower registers is a necessary move to keep James behind the microphone longer.
I wonder if John Petrucci goes back to relearn some of the old stuff and says, “What the fuck was I thinking when I wrote this?” That outro guitar solo has so much going on that you could easily break it down and have weeks of practice material.

So many guys commenting about LaBries vocals being "fake" Listen to vacant of this tour, listen to the flute screwing it up entirely as it comes in. Do you really think they'd fix up vocals for an entire concert and leave such simple things like a jackass flute tone in there?
2:10 I love the way Petrucci look at James like saying "Come on, don't fuck this up..." Man, LaBrie killed this concert!! Even when his high register always sounded kind of annoying to me I learned to accept it with the years. It's sad that nowadays he can't sing like this. :(
No, unfortunately age takes its toll on us all. Even with his voice degraded somewhat, LaBrie still sounds better than 98% of the other vocalists out there.
Have you listening to Dream lately? I mean, really listening, not just as background sound. LaBrie is sounding awesome. He doesn't have the power he had in the early 90s, but at least he fits right again, not like the Chaos in motion tour.
Mariano Fernández I agree-- LaBrie is sounding better than he ever has. He just doesn't have the range he used to and a little less power. But he still sounds amazing.
I agree on this it is not so easy to pull that off on that age.. and could also be he went for petrucci come believe in me support me I am gonna do this. But like you said age takes it toll, no offense guitar players for example stay often at their same level but the voice... you gonna pay the toll.. I had the same with bruce dickinson of Iron Maiden :(
LangsGalgEnRad LaBrie goes to Petrucci a lot for support. Usually when he has to hit a high note, you'll see him walk over to Petrucci. I've seen him do it frequently in live shows.
The Score version of "The Spirit Carries On" has infinitely more verve, more soul. The Luna Park performance was flat and just sort of "meh." And actually, the biggest difference I can hear between the two recordings is not the replacement Mike. It's LaBrie. His voice is UTTERLY different, and it lends a completely different energy to the music. There are other culprits, and Mike's one of them, but between the two performances I would choose Score every time. There was just so much more emotional energy there.
I really wish LaBrie would start singing like this again. I mean, he sounds pretty good again in recent shows, but this technique he used in this DVD was just so much more like the original and just sounded more youthful.
Yeah, I meant "style" rather than technique. I liked the sound he had back on this DVD and the style before Train of Thought. Yeah, he has gotten older, but you'd think he'd be able to at least sound this same way in the lower notes that don't require as much effort to hit.
MM is faster and more classically trained than MP, so as I mentioned, he's better if you look at it from a technical aspect. However, it's more about personal preference, and while I thought MP's personality was hilarious, I like how you can see MM just loves what he does. :)

Wake up and smell the autotune boys! Of course he did perform the note, but let me tell you a fact: this whole concert is (at the very least) heavily pitch corrected/(auto)tuned.
