      @@martijnvanspaendonck7989 If I recall, they did that for the Live at the Marquee concert in 1993. They replaced almost all of LaBrie's vocals with studio overdubs. So no. They do admit when they do edits. Hell, half of the guitars of Under A Glass Moon in this concert were overdubbed in studio (not because John messed up, but because someone unplugged his guitar accidentally). But I would prefer to hear anyone who went to this show to confirm.

      @SeriesTube01 7 років тому +10

      In all the videos from the Score DVD there are good comments about LaBrie's singing. In my opinion that year (2006) was his last good year in concerts, his singing has been going downhill since 2007, improved a little bit in 2011-2012 but still there's a huge gap between his singing and the rest of the band and it's been more noticeable in these past few years. Nowadays I think he's a liability in a band with super talented musicians like DT.

      Death metal? Which kind of death metal have you been listening to? Because, if anything, he sometimes (Wacken 2015) sounds like a chicken, and sometimes (Live at Luna Park) sounds like himself. Never heard him trying to go low and raspy or shrieking high (Probably because he knows his throat is not exactly in great shape and his vocals are strained enough to do the stupidity of growl, shriek or scream too much)

    Part of the reason James doesn't sing in the stratosphere anymore is because he's aging. There's only so much you can do to keep your range over time. Eventually the upper register will be so sensitive he'll risk rupturing something again and wind up sounding like Rod Stewart for the rest of his life. The move to lower registers is a necessary move to keep James behind the microphone longer.

      The Score version of "The Spirit Carries On" has infinitely more verve, more soul. The Luna Park performance was flat and just sort of "meh."
      And actually, the biggest difference I can hear between the two recordings is not the replacement Mike. It's LaBrie. His voice is UTTERLY different, and it lends a completely different energy to the music. There are other culprits, and Mike's one of them, but between the two performances I would choose Score every time. There was just so much more emotional energy there.

      Yeah, I meant "style" rather than technique. I liked the sound he had back on this DVD and the style before Train of Thought. Yeah, he has gotten older, but you'd think he'd be able to at least sound this same way in the lower notes that don't require as much effort to hit.

    Then there is Rush, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, A sweet Thrash metal band called Annihiliator another one called Voivod, World pop songstress Loreena Mckennitt and Howard Shore. Just to name the ones at the top of my head.

    @soldatojoker85 Voices is not tougher. LaBrie sings it today like he does on the album. Another Day, Learning to Live, and Scarred are the only ones that come close to Innocence Faded.

    Canada may have sent us Justin Bieber and Nickleback, but they also sent us James LaBrie, which makes up for JB and Nickleback 10 fold.

    It almost sounds like there's some sort of overdub on the drums during the chorus like a china crash or something that you can tell he isn't playing. I could be wrong it could just be very open trashy sounding hi hats

    @Brugi92 I saw them like 2 years ago and was afraid Labrie might not be that great. There was no reason, he nailed everything better than I could've hoped. Some of the highest notes and passages might be difficult and I don't think he can do them every night, but everything where he's not pushing himself unrealistically he delivers beautifully.

    I never believed I'd say this, but that must have the first time since James' food poisoning incident that I've actually seen him nail a pre-Falling into Infinity song like this, almost the way he used to back then. Great job!

      Martijn van Spaendonck What do you mean, that he used autotune during this performance? If that were the case the entire performance would have sounded better.

      @@martijnvanspaendonck7989 it's not fake, look at the original footage, that high note is not edited

      Wake up and smell the autotune boys! Of course he did perform the note, but let me tell you a fact: this whole concert is (at the very least) heavily pitch corrected/(auto)tuned. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. In fact, it's the most common thing in the world. Look at the video 'Score contains fake vocals' and you'll know enough. Hopefully.
