      Aoe 2 graphics and the amount of units you can select are only 60 max were the biggest hold back for me and lack of overall abilities then aoe 3 fixed all of that but then limited amount of towers and houses that made the game feel small no matter what or how big your base is so when aoe4 came out finally a game that has the graphics ,has max units has ability to select as many units as you want and you can build a gigantic city with fortress walls FINALLY the only thing we NEED more of is civs I swear I don’t know how they released aoe4 with so little civs to choose it’s crazy ! Everything else is perfect

      @@katam89ppl dont play RTS's for visuals. Warno looks better, but hardly anyone plays that. More ppl are playing AOE2 DE than AOE4, not bc graphics, but bc content. However, many did not like the style of AOE4, which's why they had to drop the price so early, and why Relic suffered (they also got less sales for COH3 than expected, and more players are playing the older one w worse graphics - COH2, for same reason: content).

      A lot of the people disliking AOE4 base it on expieriences they had at launch, at launch the game had so many issues in every single department you can think of, sadly a lot of people quit and never looked back while the game has improved so much. The game however should not have launched in that state and it can never fully recover from that first impression. The new RTS games coming out do not interest me at all, they just make me realise AOE4 is even better right now than I thought it was. Other RTS games make me appreciate this game more.

      I honestly have never played a RTS game that well thought out and crafted than aoe4. You can feel the Developers put tons of efforts into this game just for all the details and contents whether thats civs, balances, micros, varieties of structures, features etc... All these combined with decision making mechanics that make sense. I used to be a huge FIFA fan, but the gameplay is now not even close to aoe4. I know it is different genre of game but change my mind with any other games. This is very rare in gaming world to say the least.

      @@DuVtrell I feel the same, aoe3 for me is were strategy matters "more than micro" (in all honesty I feel that in AoE3 they are equally important but hey in AoE2 without micro you can loose a cav vs archer battle, whereas in AoE3 thats near impossible, when considering just skirm vs HCav) in all of the Age series, how you use the decks, how you intend to age, what units to make (mercs, natives, regular troops) all of these give an extra flavor to the game even if you play the same civ MU severall times, they can all be diferent and to top that up, there are revolts or diferent federal states to give even more uniqueness to it.

      The best one that came close for me is red alert and company of heroes because its similar with micro but its still strategy more then micro because of how the units and bases function. Once you start about how you are not instant dedge the moment you get cheesed, I thought of a game where I am playing 2v2 with a friend. They did an all-in and we defended properly, so we decided to ramp up our armies, go castle and then immediately attack twice as hard as they did us. The moment we are ready, we scout one player's army on the edge of the map going for some weird flank and I said "now we attack" and we did and fought 2v1 for a short while, destroyed a bunch of production and once that army arrived to defend it was too late - we win. And it just felt like the most strategic victory with my friend yet (we are quite new still). And we both realized just how fun it can be even though we aren't incredible at the game..
    And I played a bunch of SC2 and I played WC3 ladder, and I really like this concept of having a more strategic RTS too, rather than high octane micro wars where one tiny piece of information missing means certain doom so often. And I watched a shitton of SC2 because like you say, it is incredible fun to watch, but it is just so incredibly punishing to play.
    TLDR: I am (getting) old too and that's okay, AoE4 is awesome! :D

AOE4 is by far my favorite and the one I can't stay away from. I leave for a few weeks and then see a youtube cast of a game and I get excited to jump on the ladder. I also love the depth of the strategies needed to be competitive. i almost don't think these games can really be directly compared I like them differently like I like Fallout compared to final fantasy, they are both RPGs but no one thinks they are competitors

    Age 4 is simply the best and most varied RTS in the industry. It took me a few years to realize that because I avoided RTS games for a long time and even if I got Age 4 on day one and played it for a couple months, I was just busy with other games from other genres.
    But after playing since the new DLC and since I was a Kid both Age of Empires, StarCraft and Warcraft were my top games, I completely agree: Blizzard's Style for RTS is just too stressful and needs to be performed like a clock. If you waste a few seconds, you are already losing to a rush or cannon in your base.
    Age 2 felt too old for me and the variety and gameplay mechanics were not enough even if they were being remastered.
    Age 4 gives you time to react and your TC also lets you survive if you don't give up a couple minutes more. You can also master a civilization or feel confident, but you also know that there's so much to learn and if you don't want to, you can still be competent in the game. Something WC/SC don't have, because you must learn everything from each race (only 3 fortunately/sadly).
    Let's hope Age 4 keeps growing strong and the DLC adds the most requested classic civilizations (Spain/Aztecs or something from Central/South America) and from there, expand the possibilities.
    First time I'm able to rank and have fun at the same time in the RTS genre. Or just go full Custom Games and still learn a lot from each playthrough.

  • @matiasmazzei9732
    @matiasmazzei9732 25 днів тому +16

    Vortix said AOE IV doesn't requires micro at all. I highly disagree, and one of the things i like the most about AOE IV is how micro/macro/decision making is correctly balanced one each other, you don't lose your army in the blink of an eye but you must be aware on how you position your army / protect your longbowmans /protect your siege.
    The only thing that's killing me in AOE IV is siege: most of the times it feels like the only way to counter siege is with more siege. He has 4 springalds, okey so i must make 5 springalds, i kill his 4 springalds and then i have mines literally useless for the next 10 minutes because now he makes only infa/archers/horsemen. Other than that, games where your enemy is just completely closed, you can't literally harass nowhere and then a mass of siege that you couldn't scout appears and kills absolutely everything you have to destroy those walls. Then you can't push until you have more siege than him and the game just becomes a siege-mathematic game.
    Overall, it's feels like game favours the ultra-defensive style of play, but that's the only thing i don't like of AOE IV, is just an amazing game and i think none of these new RTS will be even close to it.

      I don't want to dunk on Vortix too hard, but I don't understand how he can announce a hard switch to a game that looks like it might not even get finished. SG reception is lets say lukewarm at best and FG already ran out of funds and had to release EA early. I think what he means by "no micro" is "I can't leverage my APM to the point I can just straight win a games by having higher APM, which you can in starcraft and SG. In SG I'm sure a pro can kill a beginner with the starting dog.

      AoE4 is a good game, but exactly the things you mentioned here is why i ultimately like starcraft and that style more. Games go too long, no rush strats that can kill because of tank TCs, walls everywhere, late game is boring as fuck. AoE4 is good thru castle age...but ive literally left some games, team games especially, late game. Im about to try out aoe2, i have a feeling i will like it more.

    • @nunyabizwacks6711
      @nunyabizwacks6711 17 днів тому

      but Vortix is probably comparing to SC, and aoe4 basically doesnt REQUIRE micro in comparison. And especially compared to Starcraft / Broodwar. The units in aoe4 dont move well for micro either. Thats why i think ill like aoe2 more because i know it has snappier unit movement, similar to SC.
      Speaking of, thats another issue i have with AoE4, all units across the board are too slow. Takes to long to move your army anywhere. Little things like faster movement speed, let all units attack walls, etc would overall make aoe4 a much more exciting game. Make early game strategies more viable, make it possible to actually eliminate opponents with rush strats.

That even if controls were not an issue of the game either on my part, or of the game itself. AoE4 is the best "new" RTS out there. I really don't understand why Artosis, Tasteless, Grubby (to a lesser extent because he showed AoE4 love) and all these other figures I enjoy so much from my RTS past do not see this game and appreciate it more. I played a ton of SCBW, WC3, and SC2.. AoE4 beats them all from an enjoyment level. As much as it pains me to say because I love SCBW and WC3 especially. I also believe it's because I am getting older and I feel a lot of what Beasty is saying in this video. But honestly, I think if I had the chance to play AoE4 in a time machine whilst playing the others in their prime I would switch to this game, and not just because of the graphics or quality of life improvements.
    Stormgate ain't it. And I'll be more brutal here: It's just a worse SC2. I cannot see it improving upon SC2. Battle Aces is the complete opposite, it's too simple and it doesn't really qualify as an RTS to me, and that's fine, but I'd never play it. I'd rather play DotA.

However, I ran away with all of the villages and rebuilt, while english and china allies boomed to imperial. I then made some time by harassing with horseman and horse archers, long enough for me to recover. Eventually, we won the game. It was super fun.
    That's just not the experience in Starcraft type games. It's too sweaty for me and for a lot of people. It's all about micro-skills rather than thinking. RTS games like the AOE franchise are about thinking rather than microing, and its audience is mainly adults. So, in the end, I don't think these new games will dethrone AOE, but they will get younger players probably

    variety in gameplay is one of the best things about the AoE franchise, u have not 4 but 16 or in aoe2 over 40 different civs with unique playstyles and options, so strategy and adaptation get way more rewarded then just onetricking a cheese with excellent micro

    My feelings exactly. Generally, when I was about 14 and had time to invest in SC2 (got Diamond eventually), I truly enjoyed it. When HOTS came out, I had a real live business to deal with and had much less time to play video games in general. And I found myself not enjoying the game anymore. This 1V1 extensive experience is for the people who are ready to invest a lot of their free time in the game. And I found much more joy in playing strategies like Northgard, Dune: Spice Wars and AoE4. The way those games function is much closer to my fantasy of the strategy game. You, as a commander, make your decisions and micro can help you win, but it's not the determining factor. Actual strategic decisions are. And I believe that this is the future of the strategy genre development. Thanks for the video, hope some devs will see this one. It's going to age well.

    I would like to point out that we feel the same, we like the game being a bit slower, since we're not pro's like you.
    On the other hand I also want to point out that the changes that the pro players push are often towards faster games which makes us(me) feel like we don't have time to react.
    Every change that pushes for less effective static defences makes me want to play less 1v1 or 2v2.

    • @andreinicodim1622
      @andreinicodim1622 25 днів тому +1

      The point I made about static defences just implies that often they can be a universal way to counter most aggression. They are a tool for people with less knowledge to adjust to enemies aggression to give them time to react.
      Making them less effective often makes the game unpleasant, again, for me at least but I should think that it is a more general condition since 1v1 si not the most played mode

    I love the water point, water gameplay feels like starcraft indeed. I wish they changed water so it's not about crazy fast fishing but rather having a tactical advantage from controlling water.
    For example make fishing gathering rate much slower, so you don't auto-lose the game after loosing water and make all the naval ships very slow but very powerfull, somewhat like a tower or castle that can move on water

    Really nice to hear that youre still having that much fun playing AoE4 after all those years. Personally, I have the luck to not be a pro gamer. I am able to play both games without having to decide for one of them and having my career depend on it. Joe privilege.
    Currently, SG is just not finished yet. But it looks very promising to me. I'll most likely just keep playing AoE4 and at some point start playing both games alternately when SG reaches a more polished state. And I'll probably never turn my back towards AoE.

    As someone who made masters terran in SC2 (not that great at it) and burned myself out of the game I get it. Missing a scan to see a DT shrine, failing a split against a psi storm, unsieging my tanks at the wrong time, or missing a scout on a proxy 2 rax reaper. it's a lot of punishment for many things that are rather small. I can't play AOE4 very much for health reasons but I do appreciate that the game doesn't come down to making one wrong decision or one wrong move. It takes an opponent taking advantage of multiple openings to win a game. Micro can help you reach that win but the strategy behind it is what's really important.

    That's probably why I'm looking forward to Immortals: GoP Beasty, it feels more like those game where RTS started 20 years ago for me. I have played more SC2 and WC3 then any other game apart from DOTA2, but I'm not "hoping" for a remake the way those companies are aiming for it right now. I wouldn't be suprised if a Blizzard did create the next RTS game it would crush those developers. but to be honest something new would probably be to modern for me, it probably comes with mobile or console. (or if not, like battle aces, it sure could be run on a mobile device with some small adjustments) I'm also a bit hoping for Zerospace, they did choose for some nature race that we all expected Stormgate to do, I'm still confused they have chosen for a Protoss. even more shocking was the similarity of skills mixed between the races identical to SC2.

So far the impression 1v1 in SG gives me is "kinda like Starcraft II but nowhere near as stressful". Played only Infernals so far though. I've seen Nathanias on his stream surrendering every single Vanguard vs Vanguard game because of something about dogs so I got reminded of that when you showed that game with dog all in. :D Anyway, if SG starts to become as annoying as SCII eventually, I might end up trying AOE 4 finally.

    Starcraft 2 for me is not RTS. It's more like a fast pace arcade game. Like, I don't really fight against my opponent, I fight the game the fast pace of the game itself. There is no strategy making when I have to spend more time clicking and microing than actually doing the thinking part. I look away from 1 second and my units are gone...like what strategy can I come up with to counter that 1 second of not looking at baneling or disruptor?.

      You got it backwards, it's only too much BECAUSE he has to be a pro gamer, and the gameplay at the highest possible level can become an APM/attention arms race because they got everything else down, so that's where they can get the edge over competition. For the rest of us, there's a lot more to learn and do before we ever get to the level where high APM matters, if we get there at all.
