As China, you don't have to build 2 landmarks to age up, you only need to build one but if you build both of each age it gives you both landmark bonus + dynasty bonus

I'm glad you put French in 'medium'. I started the game a month ago and everyone recommended them as easy to me, but I found them fairly complex to win with past like plat 2 as a new player. Other civs just have better eco bonuses, and you have to control the map with pressure while keeping your knights alive.

well as you said it is more about the civ's strenght than the difficulty itself. French is not hard to play it's one of the easiest civ to play in terms of mechanics , it's just that it got nerfed a lot and can't really keep up with other civs to a certain level

The mechanics from French all are straight on and easy, the macro is very easy. But micro with their knights is more difficult than infantry civs. I would place them in mid tier too.

Yeah, the civ itself its easy, but is built around a unit that i find to be the hardest to use. The knight is really expensive yet vulnerable to certain units. Look away at the wrong time and they will be really wounded or half of them dead.
Sure, you can run away from spear/crossbow/jannie but you can’t just keep your camera on top of the knights 100% of the time.
This is also why i disagree a bit with OotD being easier than HRE. Sure, you manage less units, but that also means losing one is more painful, and you will be punished harshly for picking bad fights. (You need to rebalance the mental map in your mind of how many units in term of power do you have, plus the fact that their units are not twice as strong, but 90% i think? Which could lead to wrong assumptions when comparing larger armies)
