thanks very much for watching, don't forget to subscribe, and give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed!!
It's crazy how much I trust Jack's opinions and recommendations. He's truly one of the most comforting content creator for me
same
god yeah
mans could be out here treating the most atrocious book on the planet like it solved world hunger and I'd probably believe him
Agreed
Yes I literally bought a book yesterday just because Jack raved about the author
“When words in black and white on a piece of paper can make your whole body feel such strong emotions because of how well the intensity is built up…well done” ugh I LOVE that feeling!! Only a few books in my life have had this effect on me so I love that you got that experience through that book. Definitely reading it now 💜
Wow I literally just saw you on Haley Pham's video. Cool!
I swear you watch every person I watch 😂
@@TrailCameraFootage literally. She's all over the UA-cam 😂
which books made you feel that?
What are those books? Please share with us :)
For those in a hurry:
1. The Promise- Damon Galgut
2. Elena Knows- Claudia Piñeiro
3. Panenka- Rónán Hession
4. Sorrow and Bliss- Meg Mason
5. The Bread the Devil Knead- Lisa Allen-Agostini
Amazing, thank you for these!!

omg ily thank you!
I love Jack´s passion for literature in general, is just so positive and makes you want to read tons of new book genres.
Right? It's crazy to me that I've read and loved books I wouldn't even have looked at if not for Jack
Yeah Jack Edwards ! His videos always makes me want to rattle my bookstacks .
Jack, don't think for a second that we forgot about Cain's jawbone.
I know I haven’t. Bring it back it popular demand!!!
😂😂😂
THIS. VERY THIS.
Yes I’m still waiting for a part 2 to that video !
He already said he wasn't going to be able to continue it!
"No character development-
Just vibes,"
-Jack Edwards 2022
he's NOT ordinary!
i can vouch for sorrow and bliss. i literally just finished it. it's so beautifully written and just emotional.
Jack releasing 2 videos on both his channel in a span of a few hours. The stars have aligned in our favour.
book time stamps:
2:21 - 4:47 "the promise" by damon galgut
4:51 - 7:47 "elena knows" by claudia piñeiro
7:48 - 10:31 "panenka" by ronan hession
10:32 - 12:52 "sorrow and bliss" by meg mason
13:11 - 15:31 "the bread the devil knead" by lisa allen-agostini
The way you describe and review books is phenomenal. I struggle with reviewing the books I’ve read in an interesting way, so I am in awe of your videos!!
Jack is really out here diversifying my reading (and I appreciate it)
Great list, Jack! So pleased you enjoyed Elena Knows by Claudia Piñeiro. We love it (obvs) and are so proud to have published it! (Also big fans of the lovely and talented Rónán Hession, author of Panenka!)
1. The Promise by Damon Galgut
2. Elena Knows by Claudia Pineiro
3. Panenka by Ronan Hession
4. Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason
5. The Bread the Devil Knead by Lisa Allen-Agostini
Damon Galgut
you are a blessing
@@wendyinthegarden523 thank you, i’ve corrected it ❤️
@@hilljemima7834 i always love when someone does this in any listing video. So here’s to us ✨
ive just been binging or rather unhealthily *consuming* your videos and adding stuff to my tbr knowing full well I CANT READ ANYTHING UNTIL AFTER MY EXAMS and this exercise is burning holes in my heart. i just keep downloading stuff and its so satisfying, if you recommend it, i have to read no dont bother explaining the plot, ill read it. my tbr is sooooo long rn and its scary and beautiful and maybe i need help but yea
Love being able to listen to you talking about books
Jack's recs are great because he actually has taste. I love that he can appreciate any genre of book, it just has to be a good book.
Definitely added all these to my tbr! The way Jack talks about books just makes me want to read them immediately.
The best book I’ve read this year so far was definitely “Human acts” by Han Kang. It’s a historical fiction novel about the Gwangju uprising and just stunning. The prose is incredibly beautiful and the way such a big historical atrocity gets broken down through the loss of a single child as a through-line through different perspectives just made a deep, visceral impact. I’ve never cried so much or felt physically exhausted while reading a book, but I also loved every second of it.
Jack, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy and appreciate your videos. Your channel got me out of a huge reading slump and encouraged me to try out different genres. I’ve discovered so many fantastic books thanks to you and I have found many new favorites as a result. You are definitely my favorite booktuber❤️
Jack can you do a 'happy pill' book recs? Books that give you instant serotonin and are somewhat escapism material
I also read Panenka after your recommendation and loved it! so quietly human and truly devastating
Omg I've never been this early. Jack truly is FEEDING us
No but actually 💜
And we're all just gobbling it up 🤣🤤
that opening anecdote is off the charts, absolutely excellent. we’ve all got something like that ahaha
It made me so happy to see you had uploaded!! :) Congratulations on reading 100 books! You inspire me and hope that one year I can do that too. Hope you are having a great time
I hope you know how much we Argentinians LOVE having recognition abroad because when you mentioned the queen Claudia Piñeiro I just screamed😭😭 I read one of her books at school and I've been wanting to read more of her so definitely added to my tbr list ! (and obviously the rest of the books too)
LOVED this review. I'm so glad you put in quotes too! I love getting a taste for the author's writing when I'm trying to find my next book to read
Elena Knows is absolutely fantastic and heartbreaking. I just finished it today and I still don't have the words to express how I felt about it. Cried too!
8:45 This premise reminds me so much of an Indian (Tamil) movie I watched recently. It’s called “Jersey” and deals with a similar premise. It is a beautiful movie and seeing you rave so much about the book, you might love the movie. Also thank you for so many diverse recommendations. I will definitely be reading some of these!
the narrative elements you loved in 'the promise' are all things you'd love about 'atonement'
I can only ever trust jack to give me book recommendations. The way he talks about each book intrigues me so much.
I’m so glad i finally found Jack’s channel. My TBR will never be the same. The excerpts really help to illustrate why the book is a ‘must’!!
Whenever I want to read new books, your channel is my go to. Thank you for doing what you do!
Visiting my family in London in less than two weeks so I’m starting my book buying list (alongside another suitcase so I can bring them all home lol) anyway thank you for making me smile Jack!!
bought your planner this week as im starting college v soon ! super excited to use it it's amazing. i showed it to my sister and it convinced her to get one for her own
Just ordered the book log and daily planner! Can't wait to use them!! Thanks Jack!
Thank you, definitely expanding my range beyond classics and australian literary awards
I also loved Elena Knows, but I paused when you mentioned that it had italics for dialogue - apparently they added that feature when they translated it to the English, as the original Spanish version I read has no italics at all - just double-checked to make sure I remembered right! Still had no trouble figuring out who was talking in spite of the lack of quotation marks or line breaks. But interesting that they added that 'feature' to the English! Such an excellent book, either way.
IM ALWAYS SO ECXITED FOR THESE VIDEOS TO COME OUT I LOVE UR RECS AAAHH
Ive never been this early XD your books choices are so unique and i love your taste
Jack's videos are always full of enthusiasm, passion and wit. I never got bored watching your reviews ^^ and thank you for inspiring me a lot!
Also thank you for making an more exhausting first day at work 100% better
Great video as usual. Definitely will add all of these on my tbr
I love that your list holds books I haven’t heard a lot about! I’ll definitely be reading them
I didn't realise I was so early! Love the video so far! Also hi from South Africa! That first book has immediately peaked my interest for obvious reasons! It's on the reading list now! I'm surprised I haven't heard of it already
The last few days I've been obsessed with your channel and whatever I'm doing I just put on a video you've posted. Your content is so interesting and likeable. My TBR list expands everyday :)
Jack, if you liked Elena Knows you should definitely read Catedrales by Piñero as well, I'm not sure if it's been translated to english yet, but it's even more hardbreaking and bleak and ugh amazing
I just read the first chapter on your recommendation. I needed this book. This book needed to find me.
@@kennialopez267 RIGHT?? The first chapter alone is life changing
Thanks, I'm definitely going to look for that one too!
Please to say we will be publishing Catredales in English in 2024!
El Reino in english The Kingdom on Netflix is a series done by her aswell and its so good!!!
i love that you read some quotes :)) gives a little sneak peak
Ready to add new books to my tbr list.
My favourite so far has been The Bell Jar, cannot stop thinking about it ever since I read it in June
The way you make it look it so easy to review books - this whole channel is seriously impressive
Ty jack for providing me the serotonin for the next two weeks 🙌
This month will be sooo good thanks to you
Totally here for this kind of content ❤️
i cannot stress how happy jack's videos make me
omg, so I'm English but have been learning Spapnish since I was really small and have just started to add Spanish language books into my reading, and my one biggest problem is that Spanish language books format speech in a very different way to english language books so i find working out who is speaking more difficult. Elena knows was going to be the next one on my TBR but I'm now trying to decide whether what you said about the way elena knows formats speech is going to make it easier or harder to keep up with what's going on
So thrilled to see Sorrow & Bliss on this list - it’s my favorite so far this year!
Not Jack being the most intellectually attractive person I’ve ever seen🥺
Jack I literally just did a little dance when I got the notification that you've posted a new video 🥺😭😭
Immediately added the first four to my cart. The fifth one is already on my TBR as a Trini 🇹🇹. Definitely gonna read this year. Love that you're showcasing this book, and so many others that deserve the spotlight. ♥️
Fellow Trini here! I got my copy from Paperbased. The hours flew by and before I knew it, I had read the entire thing. Definitely recommend.
I loved transcendent kingdom! Excited to read these, thanks for the amazing recs!
Yes! I was just waiting for Sorrow and Bliss after seeing you rate it 5 stars on Goodreads. This book was basically an out of body experience, like I can‘t even describe the emotions I felt reading it.
4:48 (Mi país..🇦🇷 Mi país 🇦🇷...) Netflix will adapt Elena knows in a movie and HBO Max will adapt 'Catedrales' which is also by Claudia Piñeiro. I liked Catedrales better. I hope they also translate it to English. 'Una suerte pequeña' is awesome too.
I only trust Jack when it comes to book recs. THANK YOU.
only jack, uncarley and noelle galleghar
@@cyrahewison6849 and dakota warren!
i really love your energy! thank you for the recommendations! new subscriber here!
Charco Press rocks, and Elena Knows is one of my favorites of the year, too! A gut punch but a heck of a good one.
Im a new subscriber and I’ve been going through your videos and just adding books to my list. I love your personality and the way you describe the books that maybe the reason I want to read them is to sound more like you 😂😂
Such wonderful books so proud of you Jack 😊
i’m definitely going to check out Elena Knows after that review lol
Ohh I can't say I enjoyed Elena Knows yet it broke something inside me. Happy to see you reading literature from my country! 💜🇦🇷
Just started Sorrow and Bliss today and now even more excited about it.
I have made my mind, I am choosing Sorrow and Bliss! Thanks jack love ya❤️
jack feeding us content. love it. thanks
So glad you are reading more Latin American literature! I’m from Argentina, but I’ve never read Claudia Piñero. This is my sign to get it now!! Love you vids 🥰
En la misma!
loooved it.you're AMAZING lots of love for u
You should make a video reading the 1 star reviews of books you rated 5 stars, and the 5 star reviews of books you rated 1 star :)
Your anecdote about the songs is so cute!! I relate lol I would do similar things as a kid. If they brought us joy, it doesn’t matter that there’s just ourselves listening😆
I absolutely love your enthusiasm for books. I am older and was worried that younger people would stop reading and great books would be lost or, even worse, never written. You give me hope.
Much needed video for me 💕
I lovee Panenka
Thanks for suggesting Sorrow and Bliss. Also probably my favorite of this year.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful books. These all sound intriguing and unique to me.
Interesting... I actually have Sorrow and Bliss on my bookshelves, got to give it a go this autumn. ^^ Panenka also sounds really interesting, thanks for your recs!
I would loveeee if you made a video about how you find books/ know you’ll like them
I found Sorrow and Bliss through your Goodreads and I was absolutely TORN APART by how GOOD it was!! Thanks for doing gods work jack
i am head over heels in love w this man; the recommendations were great too
I so so love “sorrow and bliss”. Still can’t get over this book.
YES I am SO happy to see Sorrow and Bliss on this list!!!
I have been DYING for you to post because it's been so long and now I'm super early lol 😂
I own Sorrow and Bliss and The Promise. Phew, glad I only need to buy 3 books this round, lol. Thanks Jack!
I read Panenka because of your recommendation and WOW. As a football fan and lover of character-driven novels, I cannot thank you enough. My #1 book for this year so far too!
"No character development. Just vibes." MOOD
jack's recommendations work so well for me. i'd trust him with my life
I really love these good old "my favorite books" videos
The best thing that ever happened to me was when the mtv hits channel shared fans lists and mine got shared. 13 year old dreams were made.
Loved the book recommendations! The best book I've read this year is "One Hundred Years of Solitude", I think you would really like it, even if magical realism isn't your thing (it isn't mine either), the writing style in one of the most transcendental pieces of writing I've ever seen.
oy. i've dnf'd it twice. how do you plow through? is it just the beginning that's hard?
@@jmsl910 same for me, I started with the first 70 pages but I find it so boring and hard for me to keep going, is it getting better?
I actually like magical realism quite a lot and La casa de los espíritus (Isabel Allende) is among my favourite books, but goddamn I couldn't get past the halfway point of this book. I didn't necessarily dislike the story itself, the problem is that everything ends up melted together, there being about 30 characters named Aureliano and another 30 named José - not too far in I was completely lost about who was who, what the setting was, what time we were in....
@@user-ft9jk7pw4q so which one should I read then?
@@twoofuslt I definitely reccomend La casa de los espíritus if you're imterested in magical realism! Another good one is Como agua para chocolate by Laura Esquivel. The Allende book is rather long and has a huge scope, but Como agua para chocolate is much more accessible. I do prefer La casa de los espíritus, so it's a great pick if you're okay with longer books, but the other one is also very enjoyable.
aaaah that extract from Sorrow and Bliss reminded me so much of another one I love in Exciting Times: "‘Everyone does that, Ava’ she said. ‘You keep describing yourself as this uniquely damaged person, when a lot of it is completely normal. I think you want to feel special -which is fair, who doesn’t- but you won’t allow yourself to feel special in a good way, so you tell yourself you’re especially bad.’"
you completely sold me when you said sorrow and bliss has the same vibes as fleabag, will be reading it asap
jack please make a very specific books recommendation video
The Bread the Devil Knead has been truly memorable for me as well. I'm glad the Women's Prize put this book in the limelight. Otherwise, most of us would have never heard of it.
My fav booktuber posted again 🥳
Ok but Jacks recommendation are always so amazing
