  • In this second part of the Industrial Sewing Machine mini course, I show you how to reduce the speed of the sewing machine to make it more controllable for stitching leather. I show two options to do it. I show you how to make your own simple pulley system to change the speed ratio of the machine and slow it down to about one stitch per second. I also show you how to use a ready-made speed reducer kit.

    I have watched about five of these speed reduction videos and this was the best of the lot..I did buy a 550W brushless servo for my singer 45K which did reduce the speed greatly from the 2800rpm clutch motor ,but it does not have enough torque to push through think leather.I am told the reduction pulley will fix that problem.. Thanks Gordie for sharing in clear detail how this is achieved.

    Very good, love the temper in you voice.
    I have found you because I decided after years of sewing on my Brothers WF, I needed it to be slower.
    I am going to first reduce the pulley size on the motor from 2.75 in to 1.75 in. This will be 75% of the original.
    I don't think that will be enough. If not, your set up will give a better result.
    I saw another similar to yours that was mounted on the table leg with both pulleys on the end of the shaft, easer to remove belt.(although don't think removing the belt would be a concern.

    Just purchased a servo motor from Amazon, they also sell a 45 mm pully that you can put on the servo motor for $8.99 US. That might get you where you need to be.

    What I did was put a wood block under the pedal I have a juki 5550 and it goes so fast. So when I step on it it only goes so far . Don't no if that will hurt the motor in the long run . I will gear it down if you think the would be better

    These videos are so useful. Unfortunately the machine I purchased from the UK came with a 12mm shaft on the motor so it's proving difficult to find pulleys. Looking forward to the needle and thread video very much! Are there different naming conventions/sizes for the same needles and thread in the EU and the UK?

    • @HobbyBloxs
      @HobbyBloxs  3 роки тому +1

      Hi. Thanks for your comment. With my method, there is no need to change the pully on the motor, you're just adding two additional pulleys which can be 15mm shaft. Yes there are different naming conventions around the world for both needles and threads. I will cover this in part 3.

    Take the clutch off the motor , lightly sand the flywheel and deglaze the cork clutch plate with a brass wire brush then blow any dust off, put it back together. You will be able to go as slow as you want without losing any high speed. It costs nothing. Cheers

    I have a singer 491 and finished fine tuning it. I am noticing that the reverse will work for longer stitch lengths. 6-8 but then the feed dogs will be in a stationery position and material doesn’t move. I a don’t know if this is normal for industrial machines or not

    Hi. Great video, very useful. I’m doing the same mod on my highlead machine. Is there an easy way to determine what belt lengths I’ll need before I’ve bought the pulleys? Also I notice you used a 110mm large pulley but stated it was a 135mm, I’m assuming you meant to say 110mm? Thanks again.

    • @HobbyBloxs
      @HobbyBloxs  3 роки тому +3

      Hi. If you are a whiz at maths, then there probably is a way. But, like most folk, you'll have to wait until you have your pulleys and measure the distance with a piece of string to calculate the belt lengths. Yes, I meant to say 110mm.

    The installed picture looks like this:
    There is no speed deceleration on the 135mm pulleys installed from the motor pulleys.
    (Is the diameter of the 135mm pulley longer than the motor pulley?)
    And speed deceleration appears in the part connected to the sewing machine pulley at the installed 45mm. Is the speed reduced by a third here?
