  • DIY methods for painting enclosures. The goal is to use as many common (or at least inexpensive) tools necessary to build pedals. It won't be the perfect, super durable result that a professionally powder coated enclosure will be, but if you're doing one-offs or custom jobs this is a great method to take your builds up a notch at home!

    Thoughts on baking the enclosure in a toaster oven between coats?

    Thats awesome! My friends designed a graphic for me and i was wondering if you could paint on the painted pedal with posca markers? It is a hand drawing and i dont want to print it. Thank you 😊

    Do you use any sort of naphtha or acetone after sanding to clean the pedal prior to primer?

    • @StompBoxParts
      @StompBoxParts  2 роки тому +1

      Soap and water to clean, wipe it off and let it air dry like in the video. You could use naphtha or acetone or isopropyl alcohol to speed up the drying process but it's not necessary.

    If I use a textured paint, will that cause problems with applying a label and getting it to stick?

    • @StompBoxParts
      @StompBoxParts  2 місяці тому

      Depends on how textured. If you're applying waterslide/sticker/label that cover the whole face of the pedal, the texture may cause issues. Smoother or flatter paints will work better in that case. If you must use textured, you'll probably need to apply several layers of clear coat to smooth it out a bit.

    For the labeling, did you perform the same steps you did from your "How to Add Labels.." video?

    • @StompBoxParts
      @StompBoxParts  3 роки тому +1

      For the pedal graphics in this video I used a vinyl stencil. You can insert just about any method of adding labels in that section of painting your pedal assuming the base coat in dry enough to handle. Stencils, decals, stamps, etc.

    • @TrippLilley
      @TrippLilley 2 роки тому

      @@lonewolf42187 yes. You can use a Cricut either to cut stencils for painting labels, or to cut vinyl labels to stick directly and then clear coat over to protect.

    What is gained with sanding in between layers? Others recommend it but you're not doing so and this result seems fine from what I can see.

    • @StompBoxParts
      @StompBoxParts  6 місяців тому +1

      If the paint is still wet do not sand. If the paint is dry, sanding will help the new coat stick better and flattens out the dry coat. Certain finishes (like hammertone used in this video) simply don't work with sanding because you'd be sanding off the hammer texture.

  • @blindowl2656

    If I want my pedal to gradually degrade and chip overtime, could I just only do the base coat? Or would it all come off quite quickly?

    • @StompBoxParts
      @StompBoxParts  3 роки тому +1

      That would be an option, but clear coat might be necessary depending on how(/if) you're labeling. Or skip the primer. It'll chip much quicker without the primer.

    Thanks for the video! Is there any way of painting a pedal that is already fully assembled? Like a pedal you bought that didn’t have a paint finish on it by design, but you want to add paint to?

    • @StompBoxParts
      @StompBoxParts  2 роки тому +1

      Totally doable! Disassembly would be required to paint the entire enclosure, however.

    Any reason I wouldn't want to use a base coat paint that includes primer, like Rust-oluem Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Paint + Primer? Could this remove the primer spraying step completely?

    • @StompBoxParts
      @StompBoxParts  2 роки тому +1

      Might work fine for you but I can't know for sure. The typical downfall of paint/primer is that it isn't made to adhere well to metal, thus why we recommend the self-etching primer.
