My first season watching Burnley was 1974/75, And I've been watching them every season since.
We did the double over a very good Q.P.R team that season. Great memories 🏐🥅🏟️👍

Great days to watch football, loved it back then, far better then today, 100 mph stuff. When players took a knock, they got up and carried on.

Refreshing to watch the old goals where a few handshakes/hugs sufficed, instead of todays big ceremony of jogging to the touchline for some dumb hand gesture followed by a dance routine while you wait for the whole team and bench to arrive

When players went down and stayed down in those days you knew it was real.

Minor kerfuffle with the kids behind the goal giving some to the Burnley keeper, before a 'friendly' word from the old bill. 😆

QPR were a great side then, coming second to Liverpool the following season, 1975-6. Sadly, Burnley were relegated that year and didn't come back to the top division until the 2000s...

My favourite players were Don givens and Trevor. I used to live just off the Uxbridge Road not that far from Loftus Road. I loved those times in West London, loved shepherd's Bush. Is the telegraph still open. Goin back soon. Got some friends on goldhawk Road and askew Road. Loved the Bush.

Its only when you see the limitations of some of the highly paid premier league imports, you can see how exciting the 70s era was in comparison. I first saw Larry Lloyd playing for Bristol Rovers in a re-arranged 4th round FA Cup tie against Everton at Goodison Park in January 1969. Alongside another central defender, Stuart Taylor they played very well against a Everton side on top of their game, only losing to a late goal. Bill Shankly once said he was at the game and lined up Larry Lloyd as a replacement for Ron Yeats. He later left Liverpool for Coventry and had lost his form and place when Brian Clough came in and signed him for Notts Forest. Where he formed a partnership with Kenny Burns to give Forest a tight defence for 2 trophy laden seasons. When i saw Forest at Goodison on the opening day of the 1977=78 season they beat Everton 3-1 and he played very well, A measure of how good Everton were at the time, after this they went undefeated in the league until the December.
Forest won the league on their first season back in the top flight. And slogged it out with Liverpool for honours over the next few years.

@@Eat-MyGoal Maybe in your opinion, however I imagine many forest fans and players from that era would be very proud of their teams success and achievements winning the European Cup and English League title.
And I am not a forest supporter.

Does anyone else remember the poster ad for a brand of shampoo that seemed to be in every Tube station around that time featuring Phil Parkes, his hair immaculate? The legend said something like "half an hour ago this man's hair looked as if it had been dragged around the pitch at Queens Park Rangers football ground all afternoon. It had."

Gerry Francis had a good point. What if Gillard had suffered a broken leg? QPR defenders were clearly distracted by the man on the ground but if it's up to the ref, then what could be done?

    Bring back Brian Moore

The QPR v Burnley game was a game covered by London Weekend Television, the commentator is Brian Moore and the QPR team are wearing blue and white hooped jerseys.

Why is there no mention of the blatant penalty kick on Gerry Francis which was not even talked about?

    • @wolves7655
      @wolves7655 3 місяці тому

Couldnt believe that myself. Francis didnt mention it and didnt seem to complain too much at the time but its the most obvious penalty in the world.

Bit unfair for Brian Moore to have a slight pop at ATV for picking a game where the kits are identical in B&W! What were they meant to do?

Some games made allowances for TV games. most had B and w sets. One team could have worn lighter shorts, same colours as shirts.

Bear in mind by 1975 only around half the UK households had colour TV, according to the licensing authorities.
