@@FilmSupplyClub Yeah, they're not that easy to find. When I got mine it was the only one listed on ebay at the time. It's supposedly a lot simpler mechanically than the 90 and easier to fix which is a bonus. It's compatible with the auto extension tubes too.
Crazy getting a camera doing a youtube before learning as much as you can about the camera. Has to be the most fascinating thing to wrap one's head around. I enjoy seeing the luck of getting a clear image after a few rolls of film. It's amazing...
Most Konica cameras sync speed is 125 we talking full frame, the Pentax 645N sync speed goes up to 60, if you wish not to worry about sync speed try a camera with a leaf shutter or a lens with leaf shutter, personally I like the Koni Omega Rapid 200 sync speed up to 500, Mamiya Universal is another great option, at the end of this month I'm planning a photoshoot using the Mamiya Universal and the Neewer Q4 with the Neewer Z2.
I don’t often take the time to write in the comments. BUT! THANK YOU. I’ve had a lot of trouble understanding flash. And the way you explained in this video helped me tremendously. MAHALO.
You learn from your mistakes; when all else fails, read the instructions. This is especially important for film as there is no instant feedback. Thanks for the video.
This is something forgotten these days where modern cameras prevent settings that du not sync the flash. When I started photography in the 70's my Prectica had amax sync speed of 1/40 and my spotmatic F 1/60 - for cloth shutter this was common - and the 6x7 is using the same technology - you can bypass this problem by using the LS90/2.8 or the LS165/4, but in a not too light studio environment the long sync speed is no issue - this changes if yo want to use a fill flash at daylight.... no chance for the Pentax 6x7 without a LS-lens
You guys obviously don't watch enough UA-cam. They always talk about the 1/30th sync speed with the Pentax 67, especially if they comparing it to the RZ67. But loved the honesty! These things happen.
Braedon responding here. I watch almost zero UA-cam. But which I had before this one. It literally didn’t cross my mind the shutter sync would be so slow. Lesson learned.
@@FilmSupplyClub Hey Braedon. Probably a good thing that you hardly watch any UA-cam. I watch far too much! I hear you completely, if you didn't know it would seem completely bazaar that the sync speed was only 1/30 of a second. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the follow up video. Always enjoy your stuff!
You mentioned the incident meter reading was f16 and you put at it at f8 to place the highlights based on the zone system? Does the zone system not use reflected metering and the the incident metering would have placed the highlights properly anway due to incident measurement? The f8 was required to balance the left and right lighting exposures?
Did you guys ever end up making a video of how to shoot film in studio (lighting specifically)? I would watch the videos of your setup even from the shoot that didn’t work. Moving from Florida to Toronto, Canada has made it reeeaally difficult for me to continue shooting film. 🙈 #darkwinters
great informational video! quick question, im assuming that you had a wireless trigger and receiver for your lights. and i see that you're metering your light w a light meter, but there is a cord connected to it? is that cord from the light meter connected to the trigger or receiver?
I have the LS lens now. Unfortunately made the mistake while filming a video....the hard part of trying to feature all sorts of different cameras in different scenarios.
dude im soooooo glad that you made this video! was about to shoot my first studio shoot with flash on film and didn't even think of checking the max shutter sync. saved my life!
That's why we no longer shoot film when better alternatives exist these days.. if you was shooting digital, you would have immediately previewed what went wrong and adapted immediately....
I feel like no one talks about this sort of stuff as it relates to film so THANK YOU!
Having no model
A professional photographer.
You made my day
ahhh the joys of a huge focal plane shutter. Loved the honesty in this vid. The pentax 90mm Leaf shutter lens is a saviour for the studio.
That leaf shutter would have done the trick. We'll have to do a part 2 soon.
@@FilmSupplyClub I highly recommend the 165. Great lens and more of a portrait focal length than the 90 LS.
@@seanc5718 I’ve since learned about the leaf shutter lenses for the Pentax. I’ve been hunting for a 165 ever since!

this video is what I've been looking for my whole art career. it'd be great if you could continue to show how to use film in studio and with flash.
Nice...

Question: what device/ cable do you use to connect the Pentax 6x7 to the light source/ strobe?
I’m interested to know too plz
You need the 165 mm leaf shutter, I used mine all the time when I was doing portraits. It works great.😊
Great teaching moment. I have the Pentax 67 so I'll need to watch out for this.
haha oh yes the CLASSIC p67 unexpected synch issue! everyone's done it. Great way to make lemonade out of lemons!
A massive let down getting the scans back but lesson learned.

I did the same thing! Those long exposures have lots of potential thank you!!
Just messed up my first strobe-studio shoot on film one week ago. Should have found this video earlier :(
Thank you for sharing the experience 🙌🙌
Hey Braedon, would love to see a studio shoot with Hasselblad. Cheers!
We’ll add that to the list. Thanks for leaving that suggestion
Great explanation for lighting. One of the best studio/tutorial videos ever!!

hahaha that 1/2 shot is amazing
Excellent I need this thankyou it was help full
will it make a difference with a 35film camera?
Tough lesson to learn, but a valuable one! Excited to see the redemption-shoot next :)
What is that timer thing called I need it

Out of curiosity, were you using the mirror lock up during this experiment with the P67?
Should probably label this “on Pentax 67” for reference... though good advice to test any new camera system set before a shootZ
5:45 i have the exact same shutter self timer :) German made, right?
Was waiting for this 😂 great use of a mistake to teach though!
Thanks Simon. That first version would have been so much better but lesson learned. There will be a part 2!

What was the film used and did you meter @box speed ,thanks
when I saw the pentax 67 I knew how you messed up haha
I have the LS lens now. Unfortunately made the mistake while filming a video....the hard part of trying to feature all sorts of different cameras in different scenarios.
What film did you use?
You would get the same problem with the Contax 645 you show in your vid, just at a higher shutter speed.
what asa number did you metering? 160 or 100 iso?
This was the reason I never got into Pentax! Mamiya And Nikon all the way :)
My question how did you focus for the self portrait ?
Sat something on the chair where my head would be, focused on that, then moved it when sitting down.....
Did you overexpose the film even with the strobes? Thanks Bradeon

So glad to hear that!!! Hope it went well.
why think at all??
First from the second on! x)
That camera is one of the worst to do flash photo, you must get the leaf shutter lenses
That's why we no longer shoot film when better alternatives exist these days.. if you was shooting digital, you would have immediately previewed what went wrong and adapted immediately....
Womp womp, film is a medium that the photographer decides to use. It’s still a more than living medium to this day for a reason.
Lowest sync speed ever!
Changing the camerra speed
Flash speed is 1/ 30.000 ?
Go on and crash
Good start, the music makes me sea sick.
Not knowing how to synch a strobe?
Are you a professional?
A wanker's act.
