    A version with compression fittings on would be nice; and when it comes to having a full flow leak, 2 minutes is a looooong time. I like the traditional surestop, having a simple switch makes people get into the habit of turning the water off before they leave the house for an extended period of time.

    Question tho, how do you stop pipes ‘hammer shock’ when the likes of washing machine draws water and stops sharpish, or when someone turns a tap off fast.

    Hey James,
    I like these Surestops. Have only installed the basic model once before.
    When Surestop upgrades the firmware to make it compatible with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Apple Homekit and the like, you will be able to have the Honeywell notification or email, trigger one of those services which would automatically turn off your stopcock.
    I think Surestop needs to get working on that asap. They will sell loads more units.

      @@plumberparts the idea of the water leak detector such as the product by Hive / British Gas takes into account normal water flow (I am sure you are aware of this but just stating for the other readers) and even long periods of water flow such as the missus in the shower however you can set that alert for long water flow to be whatever you want. Using the likes of IFTTT to receive the alert from Hive Leak Detector of high water flow and then instruct the Sure Stop to close the water valve would mean a precautionary system that even if false alarm, the water is easy to switch back on (and then modify the long water flow alert).

    Cut the pipe push on the Surestop, rarely happens in the properties I work on. Three times out of four I'll have 3/4" imperial pipe which either requires green compression rings or a 3/4" to 22mm Speedfit adaptor and I hate those big ugly white push fit fittings. I use pressfit for most things now and rarely solder, don't you have a pressfit gun? Worth a future video if you do.

    30-40 seconds wait time? I've got a ZWave mains shutoff motor that turns the ball valve. It reacts instantly. And if there is something wrong with it, I just take it off the valve and I can use the valve manually again. I had it installed more than a year ago and it still works perfect. I'd go mad waiting a minute for this thing to react.

    Been using Surestop for over 10 years in its first generation product. I say 'using'; not entirely true - read on please. Installed the valve and then put the on/off switch on the countertop (just means you dont have to get to the back of cupboards or pull appliances out). It is not 100% effective. It appears to use some sort of air pressure from the surface mounted switch back to the valve to close it. Out of the box this was fine but after a number of years it got stiff and required the switch to be dismantled and checked over. I even contacted SureStop who were somewhat helpful but ultimately didnt want to fix a failing product. Eventually the remote surface mounted button failed completely. Even now the local button on the valve is stiff and not easy to use. The addition of wireless control shows that they have developed the product but little comfort for those that spent money in the past on a flawed device.

    • @normanboyes4983
      @normanboyes4983 4 роки тому

      Ian Kearns I may be wrong but the valve ‘signal’ head is the same, so the remote unit is using air pressure to signal too.

    For your content, for full context, one really must watch the entire video especially when jobs need to be done in a sequential order. Not good doing stuff arse 'baht tit!
    One caveat. When watching certain videos, when caterwauling is likely to start, chaptered time lines can be useful. @18:06 If I want to listen to autistic screeching I usually jump to this. ;-)
