I tried storm chasing

- My first-day storm chasing was a little more frantic than expected. It was certainly a difficult experience capturing landscape photography and time-lapses.
Check out Nick Page's video from this day and thanks to Nick for providing some awesome clips!:

You just had to go and do something epic with this first video didn't you.... JERK! Well hopefully my version of the day isn't too disappointing tomorrow morning . Awesome video man!
That was your home court this time, so... you must deliver 😎🤞
Thank you for this upload!, it's a thrilling and interesting experience for chasing storms, clouds, lightning in a very unpredicted atmosphere of Mother Nature
You know you're a pro when you capture a photo from a car that is an absolute masterpiece. Wow!
Lovely timelapses Michael! Looking forward to more⛈
Absolutely stunning shots and time-lapses and the rest of the series seem to be insane too! Can't wait for the rest of this series Michael :)
Thanks so much Ole!
Brilliant, Love The Storms
Storms Michael and Nick = Gold
thanks Dennis!
Incredible! Awesome images.
Love you getting out of your comfort zone to do this, nice to see a master have to rack their brain like the rest of us. Also getting a 2 for 1 with you and Nick Page is a delight. Thanks for sharing.
Two of my fav together very enjoyable
Great video, Michael. You captured some fantastic images.
Thanks a lot for the fantastic video!
Wonderful pictures and two kind people.
Epic pictures! Looking forward to seeing some more.
Excellent video. It is always interesting to see someone as accomplished as you and Nick Page tackle situations that are a little bit outside of your comfort zones. Your attention to detail is just impressive.
Lovely video, excellent job guys👍.
Love the amazing collaboration and great chemistry you and Nike had together while shooting. Thanks for sharing the experiences...
Sublime images, timelapses and videography Michael. Thanks for a great video!
Been waiting for this vlog! Great to see you out chasing storms. Looking forward to seeing SP in the next one
I live in Phoenix and chase every off day I have over the summer. I understand your struggle as I experience it every time I'm out. Great video, Mike.
It was really amazing to witness some of these conditions. Thanks so much!
Big respect to you for taking the chaos of the storm and making some beautiful images. That timelapse is incredible! I loved this video, thank you as always for sharing your photo adventures.
Masterful in every way. I'm increasingly impressed by your photo and video skills with each new video. Keep up the great work!
No need to apologize for those shots!! Great work.
Hey Michael, what an amazing job, the quality of your timelapses is just unmatched!
Michael, Michael. Beautiful video and photos. Keep up the hard work. Always an inspiration for me. Thank you!
thanks so much!
beautiful shot of sunset ..epic
Super video again Michael
Incredible series of shots and time lapses. Well done.
Awesome stuff Michael, amazing storms love the time lapse sequence, thanks for sharing
Thanks so much John!
Waiting for the next one... :) Love these videos, Michael.
*Shainblum* : "I'm failing at getting a lightning timelapse"
Shows a fantastic lightning timelapse :)
haha to be fair the first one I did, kinda failed. The 2nd one turned out nice though :P
100% mind blowingly awesome video AND stills !!!! Absolute delight to watch and learn from. Looking forward to seeing what Mr Page produced. Big thumbs up MS from the mountains of Wales.
That was a little frantic watching! I can sense the excitement along with some uncertainty. I don't know what's coming in the next episodes but it looks big! Thanks for sharing.
Great to see you and Nick out together again. Great vlog and great images.
so much fun man, thanks so much!
Great chasing with you and Nick while you were here!
Fantastic sky’s!!
Brilliant captures Michael!
Glorious shots.
Just amazing
Top quality vblog as usual. Very impressed of that high ISO sunset picture from the car.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much!
Love how this started out sounding like Riders on the Storm!
Wish i struggled like you do , some fantastic images and timelapse of the storm, and all packaged up in a great video !
Yup... Stormchasing photography is a "little" bit more frantic than normal photography! 😀 But... i love it and the adrenalin rush puts me in a "stangely" calm mode while witnessing Mother Nature's power!! Man, i miss stormchasing...!! Great video and can't wait for the next ones!
By the end of your video I was chasing that same storm east of Sonoita, AZ. That Arizona monsoon supercell was incredible! Can't wait to see your next video!
I saw Nicks video so ofc I had to come here and see yours aswell. :) Great video, thank you for sharing.
been following some of the antics on IG and great to see some of the process and results.
Awesome vid.
Love a good storm
i love your second black and white lightning photo, thats amzing shot
Thanks so much! :)
Michael, I think this is one of you best videos. It was fun and challenging but as always, you made the most of it.
Certainly a tough one for me, but I felt like it was important to share the challenges here! Thanks so much Sharon!
Two of my favourite vlogers on one UA-cam video, what’s not to like 👍
"Michael Shainblum Fails!!" - That was epic :D I could almost feel that pain in your voice trying to get a perfect shot and at the same time I also felt kind of relieved to see even the masters struggle (and not just the amateurs), no offense!! :D I loved all the footages and pictures in this video, and I love the way you explain different aspects of photography... can't wait to see your next video!!
Wow! Wonderful! I go to bed dreaming about these conditions!
Dream team! Can not wait for the next video!
I really enjoy your adventures together. Great adventure.
Some awesome time lapse Michael!!
Thanks Nick!
You are a true friend to Nick Page. You didn't mention to him once how you wanted to go on the other side of the barbed wire fence. Those fences are to keep the animals off the highway, not to keep photographers out (I think). May all your lapses be time lapses...it was great! I do think you have to go lower ISO and longer exposures at night to capture the surroundings. When the wind gets goin' it's time for you to get goin'. You made a good choice there!
Beautiful Lightning Photos. Super. 😃⚡️👍👍
Awesome work!
Great job 👏 Cheers
I really enjoyed this vlog! Nick does an awesome job as camera guy lol. But seriously it was great to see you adapting on the fly and out of your element to an extent. Keep up the good work! Also your tutorials are great, I've learned alot!
Thank you so much for the support!
Great stuff guys 🤩📸
I loved the "appropriate footwear" you were wearing on the trail at the start of this video, Gavin would be proud. You have a spectacular body of work, but those two B&W conversions of the lightening strikes, WOW. And if there was an award for best photo taken from a moving vehicle, the shot of the Sun with the cloud across the top, surely has to be the winner. Really enjoyed this video, thanks!
Just press the shutter Michael awesome video 🤘
that shot of the peak at 4:48, DAAAYYYUUMMMMM!!!
Really...out the window of a moving car??? ;) That shot was magnificent!
Living on the edge, Michael. Flip-flops and shorts in cactus and rattlesnake country. :) Great images and time lapses, as usual.
WOW! WOW! WOW! Amazing images even though you sounded concerned.
I was so flustered haha, but pretty happy with some of the images and timelapses. Thanks so much!
Amazing mate two top shooters
Amazing shots especially from a moving car. I would love to know how you managed that. I think you did great with the lightning. I will definitely stay tuned for the next video. Thank you for sharing!
If I could give this 100 thumbs up it wouldn't be enough. Michael Shainblum and Nick Page in Arizona! Man do I know the fanatic nature of storm chasing our monsoon thunderstorms. Can't wait for your next video. Hope Nick posts some too. Chase safe! The lightning and flash floods are forces to behold!
Nick will be sharing his first one soon, I am so stoked to see it. Then I think we will be coordinating the rest or most of our new storm videos after. I think between the two of us we will have like 7-9 videos haha
Nice as always. I shot my first lightning storm timelapse in 2015 without an intervalometer, just manually pressing the shutterbutton after each 10s exposure. Funny thing, half of the lightning strikes happened in the about 1s time between the exposures :D Since then I shot a couple more with a proper intervalometer and UA-cam is doing a great job lately at recommending them along newer ones like yours :) So keep 'em coming :D
Hey thanks so much, funny enough I did something similar for my first storm. It was a little lightning storm over the sea in San Diego in I think 2011.
amazing, michael!!!!! loved it!
Thank you Yosef!
Trust me, you didn’t fail. Stunning photos!
Hey thank you :)
New follower here. Ive followed Nick awhile and you best be on that shutter around him. I still think you got some great shots and those sunset shots look awesome. But, I learned from you shooting as well and thats exactly what I need!!
Glad to have you here Alan, thanks! :)
@@MichaelShainblum what I appreciate most is that you RESPONDED. Sometimes just a simple response can do great things. Even IF NP says youre a.....? 🤣🤣
Nike Page + you = godly videos
I’ve lived here for 5 years. Monsoon season is stunning in terms of the lightning and the explosive power behind severe ones.
Dude...some of what you got was amazing. Those sunsets out the window, really? Crazy.
I see that you went with the Gavin Hardcastle "I failed at ..." approach only to circle back with some incredible lightning captures in the end.
Well played, sir.
The end clip sums up lighting photography pretty well! The best lightning will alway strike the second you put the camera down!
Nice video. Love this.
Thanks!
Despite the disclaimer, these are great shots! Love Tucson!
This is great👏👏👏
Your awesome ❤️ and images and experience amazing dude 👍 many thanks
It’s good to see that we all get frustrated with ourselves. Seems you figured it out as the resulting time lapse and images are spectacular.
thanks so much!
Can't wait to see the rest of this series! You and Nick make an enjoyable team and your photos are fantastic. PS: You'd better copyright Chasing Monsoons before Gavin gets to it. He's already going to be upset about your appropriate footwear. :-)
Would have loved to meet you while you were out here! Glad you got to experience the chaos of storm chasing out here.
Hey there Lori, next time for sure. I saw you got some EPIC stuff while we were out there too.
Epic
Brilliant video as always, which filters are you using at 3.03 mins int he video ?
Storm chasing! Braver than I! Watched Nick Page doing this and now he has cajoled you into it. :-) I am eager to see what you experienced. The crazy stuff you all get yourselves into...
Hahaha yeah he invited me on the super spontaneous trip. It was certainly a challenge and learning experience for me. Tons of fun though!
Great stuff👍👍👍 subbed
Thanks Kelly!
Beautifullllllll 😍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Your shot of the sunset out of the moving car is better than most of my shots when I'm set up and ready to go. Have fun. Be careful. We don't want the next video to be about a lightning fried photographer. :)
I thought the same, hahaha
Great video and love the storms you tried to capture too.. can’t wait for part 2. I uh, must have missed a few of your videos… last I knew you were still using your Nikon and then I see the Sony A1! So, why the switch?
Hey there Robert, thanks! I decided to go full Sony because I already shoot all my vlogs on Sony cameras anyways. I wanted the A1 for the incredible 8K video, stills and the portability of the whole system. The 850 was just getting too bulky and did not offer the features I was looking for anymore. :)
Love all of the shots you took in this video and glad you made it out safe! You have really sparked and encouraged my interest in photography so much that I'm now trying to take long-exposure night mode shots on an about 13-year-old Canon EOS 450D. Any tips on using this type of camera or on how to get cool night photography or astro-photography? Thanks and once again great video!
Awesome video, and I'm guessing that your next vlog will be about instagram yoga in a lightning storm with Nick Page as an instructor
That would be quite the video! haha thanks so much!
Great! I was waiting for your video and chasing the monsoon storms in Arizona, what could be better?
Thanks so much Roberto! The next videos in the series are even better :)
Merci Michel. Beaucoup apprécié. tu grandis.
As always, ~ Magic Shainblum ~
That was really cool. What level of ND filter were you using?
