Absolutely love the concept art by Greg Hughes. Palitoy had such a wealth of talent working on Action Man & they all seemed to get along and have alot of fun, i think all of this put together was a major benefit to Action Mans long running success.
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know a way to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me!
Love Actionman it was my childhood favourite. The space range was great as was the Special team sets. I did have the very rare missile assault set boxed which I deeply regret selling as I can’t even find a loose one. Such great memories and a wonderful figure. Thank you Tony
I owned captain zargon and the blue space ranger got them both on Christmas day great memories as a child thanks for these videos and thanks to Greg hughes for making my childhood
I love this, Space Rangers are my faves from the line, I was born during the Dr. X phase but now, as a toy collector, I'm trying to get my hands on all of this line, just got my hands on a pristine rubber suit! Such great history on all of your videos, thanks a lot!
Tony you just summed up this range perfectly couldnt agree more! My first ever action man figure was captain zargon which i treasured as a kid. I remember Zargon so vividly and remember loving the box art and his 'sting ray eyes'! I also had the space commander. These were second hand to me as money was always very tight, but i loved the figures regardless of the fact they were someone elses first. Thanks to Greg Hughes who shaped our childhood and also my love of toys since the early 80s..
Amazing video I had the first space ranger and the suit seemed to kind of perish and stick together in the end.. i have very fond memories of this guy... thanks so much for taking the time to make this video and reach out to Greg...
Love your videos, ol' boy! Wish I could have a collection like this of the Adventure Team I played with as a very small child. Great memories of fighting rubber spiders and giant squid with my fuzzy headed, eagle-eyed guys! 💥
Great video. Never saw the action man ground assault figure as a child, but loved the action force version. The attention to detail is incredible. Also foretelling the use of 'bullpup' style assault rifles, here the EM2 which became the basis of the SA80 which didn't come into use for another decade along with concepts like the helmets. Incredible vision.
Love all your action man videos you’ve brought knowledge to the masses and a new found appreciation for the people who created the toy we still cherish today. The only thing on my wish list remains a missile assault outfit.
That was a great video. I love those Special Team designs and I have the idea that some of those were lifted to make the G.I. Joe Battle Force 2000 line over here across the pond. I really wish Hasbro would have made some of the Action Man figures for the Joe lines. Some of those figures are simply amazing and it would have been nice to have some non American military figures from time to time.
Damn i wish i knew about Action man earlier, im trying to pick up earlier Gi Joe's but now i have to pick up these amazing figures too! Im especially digging the Space Rangers, they have a very unique charm to them.
I was going to throw you a request for a Special Team retrospective Tony... looks like I’m 4 months too late! 😅 Great little insight into that line mate, and the concept art is always so fascinating to see. I chatted with Bob a couple of years ago about the Missile Assault set... I had kittens when I looked into purchasing one afterwards though! 😮
Beautifully done, Tony. This one was very special. I sincerely hope that Mr. Hughes is able to rekindle his connection with Mr. Brechin & Mr. Turner. Mr. Hughes' ability to know what a child would want from a toy is spot on and his artwork is gorgeous.
This is a superb video with a wealth of primary research - first-hand interviews, archival work. It's actually very emotional to see you giving these talented men the credit they deserve and putting them back in touch with each other.
great video . I love the special team over all design . I hadn't heard of it until I joined the VAM FB page and was totally blown away with how cool they looked. its just a shame they where short lived I would love to of seen more specialist troops designs for different environments
Crazy that ROM was integrated into Action Man. Here in the USA, ROM was made by Remco and had absolutely no affiliation with G.I. Joe This was an amazing video
Dear Tony I am a HUGE fan of action man and your youtube channel you are probably my favourite youtuber and action man is my favourite action figure . I doubt you'll see this comment I would also like to say I love your action man documentary and I 'm just 10 years old . Action man is the BEST!
This is a great feature, well done Tony! I have to say that the art work of Action Man is what really interests me, especially the Space Ranger and Captain Zargon stuff, it's got that Buck Rogers feel to it, mixed in with Thunderbirds, it's just so amazing. And to see the people behind the designs and their passion for the line is incredible. Thanks for the video, and the work you put in!
lovely video Some interesting drawing, and awesome artwork Capt. Zargon has been one of my holy grail for a long time, but sadly, do not think I will ever own one. Keep making awesome videos Tony
Great informative video, Mr. Tony. Love the detail involved in the history of Action Man's Space & Special Teams. The lightblue original scheme was superior to the eventual bluegreen Space Ranger figure released.
Hi Tony other great video I like the later version's of action man and I am enjoying the these videos as some of the information I didn't know about all the best Tony
Great video and insight i love these behind scence vidios off how they made action man always be my first love toy line how you mange get rubber suit looks amazing col
All I can say is...Wow! Great, great video! I look at all of the things made by Palitoy you featured in this video and I want them at retail, right now. But made with yesteryear's quality and commitment to detail. It is funny how not one of the big toy companies in the US makes a 1:6 scale figure, comparable on price point and articulation, to Action Man/GI Joe. The accessories is truly where imaginative play begins, allowing the child to suspend disbelief. You joined the military and lived a part of your life like Action Man; putting on the clothes, the gear, the weapons, and going on real world adventures. Preteen Tony would be so envious you WERE Action Man while he had to pretend!
Wow this is really interesting I wish I knew all about these back then. Too bad they haven't been known in America I would have bought myself a couple of them. And I was born in 85 they would have been very popular in the 90s.
Me encantan los space ranger y tambien los special team , hace poco conseguí un suit space ranger con uniforme de tela gris , aun no lo tengo completo pero espero completarlo
Really fascinating. I am not sure whether Action Man could not actually make an important contribution to our current society. At least in Germany, public service people do not get the respect they really deserve. I mean paramedics, firefighters, Technisches Hilfswerk - and yes, the Bundeswehr (who currently many people in my country feel sorry for or even laugh about - a real shame). With the concept of Action Man, children and adults could have physical portraits of these fascinating services. I do not think any UA-cam video (on which our army tries so very hard, but maybe a bit too much) or smartphone app could have a comparable effect. With figures and vehicles, you can take them off your shelf, play with it (even if you may cringe at that thought), just like girls do with Barbies. I do not mean figures such as DID or similar. They are, IMO, far too detailed to be seriously played with. But if you put such services back into the conscience of children, then maybe not everybody wants to study and become a manager or engineer (big problem here).
Cool vid as always... huh I think I had a Captain Zigon action figure as a kid. But, a rip off that was close to him. How I got him here on the US. I don't know.
I had the Space Ranger action man with his rubber suit. The rubber went manky and it was really hard to take off and put on again. I had the evil action mans nemesis that space alien.
It would have been interesting to see what they would have come up with had Star Wars not come out. What other historical figures would they have created? 21st Century Toys gave us a lot of great uniforms and accessories in the early 2000s, but sadly that line died. There is no current producer of interesting (affordable) military toys in the 1/6 scale. You have some smaller producers like BattegearToys, but they don't have the kind of funding or inventory to mass produce their items. I find what we are lacking right now are uniforms and soldiers of the late 19th century to the early 20th century. This time period has only been briefly touched upon, which is a shame. Also, the interwar period from 1919-1930s offers plenty of unexplored variety. On a completely unrelated note, I like how Rom Spaceknight randomly appeared in that one commercial. LOL That was a great toy and comic book. It was one of my favorites actually.
I hope to acquire a few examples from this line. I know that many items from the action man line have been reproduced but have been told that if you find boxed or carded examples from space ranger line they are genuine as they have not been reproduced, is that true?
I remembered ROM mainly from the Marvel comics, there was a toy, but I was too old for action figures by then. There was no connection with the GI Joes I had. Curious if ROM was a Palitoy concept, since they were first with the space force line. How does ROM fit in? In the comics he's sent to Earth to destroy wraiths in human form and he is hunted as a monster.
I had the Space Ranger Commander figure mint in the original box, but unfortunately the rubber suit has degraded over time and has become stiff and immovable. 😢
Thank you very much. Remember looking at the space rangers on a toy shelf, beyond my pocket money at the time, but the day dreams abounded.
Absolutely love the concept art by Greg Hughes. Palitoy had such a wealth of talent working on Action Man & they all seemed to get along and have alot of fun, i think all of this put together was a major benefit to Action Mans long running success.

Love Actionman it was my childhood favourite. The space range was great as was the Special team sets. I did have the very rare missile assault set boxed which I deeply regret selling as I can’t even find a loose one. Such great memories and a wonderful figure. Thank you Tony
Ah man thats so cool. As a kid it was the artwork and dioramas in catalogues that really helped sell a toy for me. That original art work is so cool.
This is exactly the type of content i love to dig uo on UA-cam. Great stuff that you really don't find anywhere else.
I owned captain zargon and the blue space ranger got them both on Christmas day great memories as a child thanks for these videos and thanks to Greg hughes for making my childhood
True legend what he would have created had the line lasted beyond 84 would have been amazing once again a great documentary

I noticed tears of joy.

Very interesting Tony. Didn't know much about the space ranger line. Nice that you honored Greg Hughes.
I really love ACTION MAN, Tony... In Spain they were called GEYPERMAN.
I never had these models from space... but I hope to get some soon.

Simply awesome content brother!!! Very rich history of some very cool figures.👍
Seems all involved were very nice and talented individuals
Absolutely fantastic video as usual. And hopefully the 3 legends will be back together very soon. Thank you for this. Very much appreciated.

@3:50...woah! Did those eyes really ever moved in that commercial!?
Kirby march barcena
In 1977 Action Man was given a new head with a new play feature called " Eagle Eyes".
Good video, I always love your channel.
Very informative and enjoyably brilliant, these were the toys of my childhood, thank you for bringing good memories.
Great figures,story and video
Tony your videos are just so good.
Your videos are great quality, Tony!
I want to thank you for all this work!
Your videos are always good, but this one is especially bangin'! The resin heads are what dreams are made of; what an honor, to own one.
I'm completely overwhelmed, never thought I'd have something like that in the collection!
@@AnalogToys It's truly a top shelf piece. You are well deserving.
Hi Tony other great video I like the later version's of action man and I am enjoying the these videos as some of the information I didn't know about all the best Tony
Captain Zargon straight up has Captain Harlock/Queen Emeraldas' Gravity Saber, that is amazing

Thank you for making this tremendous video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow this is really interesting I wish I knew all about these back then. Too bad they haven't been known in America I would have bought myself a couple of them. And I was born in 85 they would have been very popular in the 90s.
Would love to have seen Captain Zargon in 3 3/4”! Such a great / terrifying design
Apart from the Red Shadow logo, and inspiring the ground assault figure, did Mr Hughes contribute any other designs for Action Force?
Bought captain zargon in a antique shop, 25 isn’t too bad!
Me encantan los space ranger y tambien los special team , hace poco conseguí un suit space ranger con uniforme de tela gris , aun no lo tengo completo pero espero completarlo
Tony the best video yet genius 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

It doesn't matter but I'm just interested who was first Action Man or GI Joe are basically the same company I grew up with the large GI Joe
Cool vid as always... huh I think I had a Captain Zigon action figure as a kid. But, a rip off that was close to him. How I got him here on the US. I don't know.
That might have been the Knight of Darkness from Ideal's Star Team line!
Ah ok cool thanx for telling me.
I had the Space Ranger action man with his rubber suit. The rubber went manky and it was really hard to take off and put on again. I had the evil action mans nemesis that space alien.
This might be a hard question to answer but is captain zargon a robot or a cyborg alien?

haha I might tell the story one day...

Yes, as far as I'm aware the Space Rangers have never been reproduced
ROM Space Knight?
