gold coins are for a type of merchant you unlock... a bit further in. for those wondering. Also, interesting that they decided to change the upgrades the way they did... they apparently really changed it since I last played.
The completely revamped quite a few of the game systems.
too bad it has so much blood. unplayable for kids at a certain age who would appreciate such a game... but well. pixel art devs trying to show that they can do bloody stuff is one of the reasons why they fail at a commercial success, right? because millions of kids and indie-fans are looking for new colorful experiences... yet, unnecessary blood is to some a no-go.
@@misterbeach8826 While I do believe having a toggle for blood is always the better option, including blood is a stylistic choice and indie devs often don't have the resources to add a toggle for everything. I wouldn't jump to a simple conclusion like "pixel artists are showing off their skills", and implying it is one of the reason why pixel art games aren't a commercial success is, imho, ridiculous. Not least for the fact that the premise seems wrong, as in there are pixel art games that succeeded commercially at large. I guess that also depends on what you define commercial success as, but then we'd be opening a whole new can of worms.
The birds and creatures flying past would drive me nuts, because I'd think an enemy was coming at me.
I've never been quite sure if I like Black Flag, or if I just really love sea shanties

If this dev is like me, then I know his reasons for not doing network code. It comes down to whether you know network enough to be comfortable with it, or alternatively, don’t want to deal with the headache it may be.
These highlight intro gameplay scenes iare much better while Splatt introduces the game than staring at the main menu.
Love the game! Bought it based on one of your previous videos about it, it was loads of fun even before hitting v1.0. Great time to dive back in 🙂
My thoughts exactly. Bought it a year ago, put about 15 hours into it and loved it, now I need to start fresh!
The 1.0 release has been astounding. I cannot express how much better of a game this is now. I am glad that a lot of people are getting this as a first impression. The previous story was B Movie tier. The progression was full of time gates. The ships were not fun to customize or fight with, and the skies were largely empty of ships to fight. I am not exaggerating when I say literally everything, from loot drops to progression to narrative to design, it's all objectively better than it was before. Please try it out. It's was a rough and unique indie gem that has since been polished and cut to a beautiful shine. I guarantee that most everyone who disliked it before is going to like it much better now.
Love the look. I don't think I've personally seen another game that's 2D top down, but with parallax to really give the illusion of 3D.
I think Sunless Sea have a kind of parallax here and there

Was thinking the same thing. A shame you can't befriend Derek Zoolander here - with his nigh infinite supply of Blue Steel, you'll have all the gas you want to play with. (Just be careful about those freak gasoline fight accidents)
As a person who has been playing the heck out of this for the last week leading up to release, this version of the game is SIGNIFICANTLY different from the pre 1.0.0 build that was just released! I'm excited to experience the changes!

It looks like there are subtle visual updates with what you upgrade, when i compare what your ship looked like at the beginning of the video and what it looked like after you upgraded the hull and the hold

This is a great game. Had loads of fun playing with it before it was out. Left it, came back and it's got those nice differences that really streamline the game. The red and blue chips replacing "oil capsules" as currency can be used for upgrades to ship and personal weapons are great. One thing is, you can't see what your ship will look like with different hulls. Once you upgrade, thats the look you have until you upgrade again. small thing, but I did like seeing how the ship changed in appearance with different components.
Gotta ask, A noticeable number of reviews on steam seem to dislike 1.0 changes a lot, is it a personal thing or did they actually make the game worse?
You still have to collect resources and stuff, thats to upgrade the buildings or sell for more chips at the shop. I honestly thought they made it better. You can't raise animals and have a huge source of income though, same for plants. You have to go out and fight to get more money, or harvest red or blue ore. More resources are useful, but you can't generate money anymore.
@@Rakanarshi2 I guess I'll give the game a look at some point! Someone even complained that they added a ton of useless weapons or something? lol
@@TheLazyFinn I wouldn't say useless at all, the weapons you would expect to be there and can upgrade them. Just different play styles.

Had a public holiday the day it came out in 1.0, so decided it was fate to play it. Best decision I made all week. My only criticism is that the mod/amulet box opening mechanic gets a bit old after your first 50 boxes
I miss the days when he used to talk the intro on the menu screen and used to tell us what this game is about
Finally a game I can get on the switch. Shop battling is a bit odd but once I get a handle on that I'm sure it'll be good.
I remember the let's-player days, you played Kingdom Hearts 2 and that other game with masks and music- and sounds-themed gameplay. Venezian heavy vibe game and from that time I started watching your vids.
Originally they were going for a different story and vibe altogether. I dont know why they changed it but it was so much better and more serious before. The new story just made the game seem kinda silly and too cartoony. They also removed lots from the upgrade systems which I wasnt really a fan of either. Not a bad game at all and its still enjoyable but it was kind of a bummer seeing the changes.
I think they may have changed the story to give the game a bit of comedic relief or just a change in ideology on the dev room. I loved the game and the story and I thought it was done really well

The game looks great and i'm definitely gonna pick it up but why do you feel like you can talk about the narrative when earlier on in the video you were also talking about how you skip most of the dialogue?
What's below..? Well in Sluggy Freelancer's epic "Ocean's Unmoving" saga its an ocean frozen in time. If you touch it you lose all your time and get frozen in time hence why everyone lives on the floating islands / ships. But what awaits the people trapped who awaken at the end of time itself?
reminds me of old Gamemaker-community games like MageCraft and RagingSkies
Game seems cool! ...one think that always bothers me about the design of steampunk gas filled aircrafts is how impractical they would realistically be in a combat oriented role.
this game looks great. the controls look very tight, reminiscent of old GTA or Take No Prisoners

Huh. I guess i thought it wasnt out yet. I purchased it after one of your 1st videos on it. Played it, amd got as far as E.A. would let me. Why didnt a steam notice happen when they went 1.0? Least for me it didnt. Oh well, soon as i finish BG3, its Blackskylands time. Really fun game!

Black Skylands is one of those games that I bought based on the Prologue demo, then they "released" into EA/beta and I don't play it because I liked the prologue better.

a lot of the steam reviews seem to be unhappy about the major changes and the weak story. does anyone genuinely enjoy this game? it looks beautiful but I'm hesitant to give it a shot.

I was active and waiting when splatty first introduced the game years ago.. unfortunately I lived through the moment when devs decided to jump on the woke/feminist bandwagon. They had assets for Walter but instead of bringing male-female selection to create wider audience (like many supporters suggested) they basically just slapped Eva as protagonist and thats that.
At that point my back just broke.. im so done with entertainment pushed feminist stuff (Rings of power, Witcher, Batwoman, She hulk.. etc.) that I wont risk my meager pennies on uncertain titles.
Anytime i see a game that you fly your own ship of any kind my first question is how big and bad ass can i make that. Am i forever stuck with little boats or can i use a massive dreadnaught.
Played this about a year ago and thought it had stardew valley level potential - glad it’s getting attention!!

achievements take some days to sync when a game just releases , at least in my experience
lots of them stuck on 0.1% or something like that but that's not possible tomost of them , give it time

I first learned about Black Skylands from your previous video, played it in early access and it was quite good, but they removed so many nice things in the release and made the story mostly worse. It's a shame devs did that for an otherwise very good game.
The .1% has been a bug on steam lately for achievements.
Yeah, I saw it was doing the same thing on Baldur's Gate 3 for about the first week after release; I thought it was a bit strange that the achievement for beating the prologue chapter (Descent from Avernus) was sitting at only 0.1% for quite a while.
Damn this game looks like a blast to play!
Some game puzzles are on another level. eg Tom has 3 eggs. Mary has 5. What's Tom's mother's maiden name...?
I like the version before 1.0 more.
