- In this video, I visit Reuben Tarte Park on San Juan Island near Friday Harbor in Washington. I find a lovely spot to paint calm cove. It's a lovely, hot, sunny day and a great spot for plein air oil painting. I show and discuss my approach to painting rocks and water in oil.

Ive never seen anyone sketch with such thin paint! So cool!! I always worry about my paint running down but you seem to embrace it. Thanks for sharing, love the painting!
Thanks so much Alex! Glad you watched - I love the watercolor like wash phase. Happy painting!
Glorious setting and such clear water. I liked your understanding of the task painting waves.
Thanks so much Ian! Always appreciate your feedback
Lovely painting, I enjoy watching you. Thanks
Thank you for watching and for the feedback 😃
It is so helpful listening to your thought process. Thank you for this.
Thank you 🙏
This is sooooo relaxing, watching you paint and listening to the waves.
Thank you for watching and for the feedback! It was a very relaxing spot, great way to spend a day
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Horst 🙏
Also I would love to see your attempt at watercolor someday. I would find it interesting to see how the work flow changes. Also going from an opacity painter to working more with transparency. I think as a watercolor artist people have to work a bit backwards in how they approach subject matter.
I am a bit out of practice with watercolor - more gouache and oil these days. It is as you say - working to preserve the light of the paper and the transparency- a real challenge!
Jon, I follow you on instagram and here on yt. Always love seeing your paintings. If you ever get a chance try to hit up the san juan ferry during a mist. I got the pleasure of going to the san juan zip lines which are amazing and early that morning a deer approached our car window asking for crackers. The large ferry was coming through a wall of mist over the water. Simply amazing.
That does sound amazing! Thanks so much for the tips
@@JonBradhamArtist grazie buon lavoro
