My favorite jackals is halo 3 cause they're much more fair to fight and easier to kill and the best part is that jackal snipers can carry carbines, they do not spawn in the middle of combat, their spawning locations is balanced, like jackal snipers with beam rifles always appear on rooftops, ledges, cliffs, deployable lookout towers, and trees where the players can't reach, they have bright purple that allows you to see them very easily, and jackal snipers with beam rifles are not as annoying any more because their reaction time is increased, they fire their beam rifle much faster like 2 shots causing it to overheat making them very vulnerable and gives you enough time to react and kill them and they also and very often fire a warning shot with their beam rifles when they see you.
@@toybonniesfm I would agree but my least favorite jackals is halo 2 cause they are massive bullet sponges, they almost never flinch from damage and it is stupidly difficult to shoot the jackal hand to stun them. But what's even worse is the infamous jackal snipers, on legendary they kill in a single shot but their reaction is too fast they start shooting their beam rifles 2/3 of a second and barely miss a shot even when they noticed you and what's even worse about jackal snipers is that they can snipe you out of any vehicles (except for scorpion tanks and wraiths). Wish granted with Halo Infinite. Sort of. Apparently now "Skirmisher" is now a combat corps rather than a moniker for the Jackal subspecies race relegated to it, so the more standard Jackals wearing light power armor fulfill the Skirmisher rank and role. Also for some reason they seem to be comprised mainly of females, though then again nothing has ever indicated this wasn't the case before.
Pretty sure in Halo 4 there's a moment on that ONI research station level where Chief enters a room and a marine gets tackled and mauled by a jackal on all fours. Why they never gave jackals melee during gameplay but literally had a moment of one mauling somebody makes no sense to me.
Well thing is them having a melee doesn't fit their role in gameplay. Of course 343 doesn't understand this so they gave melee to every enemy that shouldn't have one. Because 343.
Every upload on this channel is a hit. This series especially is so thorough, well-structured, and well-paced. I love how you get right to the point but also allow for bits of humor and your own personal opinion at the end of each section, and the chapter breaks between each game are great. I am reminded of LNG’s weapon evolution series and Hokie’s School of Halo (I miss him), just really detailed information with relevant gameplay footage and great narration. I also loved the video with 117 details in Halo 3, genuinely learned a lot of cool new things and I loved how that video was structured in order level by level (I’m sure it was difficult to put together but I would love to see similar videos for the other games), and I really like the other Halo videos about the brutes in Halo 3 and about the series’ M-rating. Also I find these videos to be very relaxing. Basically, this channel is great and every upload makes me excited, keep up the great work, I wish you the best of luck :) Edit: Also my favorite jackal might have to be the H3 and ODST jackal for gameplay, as they are more advanced and fill more roles on the battlefield without being annoying or traumatizing lol, but for aesthetic design, I love the original CE jackals.
Now all that’s left for you to do is the Drones, and the Prophets. Maybe even a video where you talk about the various different cut species and what they would have most likely done if they were added. The way the Halo 4/5 Jackals look never really bothered me because they look cool, and Bungie already opened the door for different subspecies with the Skirmishers. If that form returns they should keep the same physiological appearance. But make their armor look less over designed and looking more in line with Bungie’s art style, while maintaining the same basic shape. Hopefully in Infinite there will be a group of Jackal mercenaries comprised of all three subspecies. The normal ones would act the way they normally do, but are more agile than they were in Reach, and have their Halo 2 Anniversary look. The Skirmishers would behave the same as in Reach, but all the ranks would be seen more often. The Halo 4/5 Jackals would behave the same way as they do in 5 how they are more aggressive, and be the only ones that can melee you with their shield because they are clearly more durable. There’s a cut feature from Reach where if a Jackal/Skirmisher has a rifle type weapon they will use a weak melee attack which should be in Infinite. Also, for the Jackals they should have Energy Cutlasses, and the different skin colors.
Dude when i saw your thumbnails for your other videos I actually thought you were some official halo channel with about a million subs thats how underrated your channel is
I just don't get the decision to make the Jackals more saurian, they're much more generic looking and redundant with the Elites already being dinos. I thought Skirmishers were done much better, they had a more striking avian design and appeared alongside the other Jackal "subspecies" rather than replacing them entirely.
I never understood why people refer elites as dinosaurs as a joke. The only similarities are the reverse jointed legs and their skin, literally nothing else is at all similar to a dinosaur or most reptile species. Jackals look much more dinosaur like than elites, even the pre-halo 4 ones.
@@NateNexVI Probably because Elites do look similar to reptiles, they're a saurian species with scaled skin, sharp teeth, reverse leg joints, claws, occasionally slit eyes, etc. They even get armors that give them horns and triceratops-like head frills, look at what they had Arbiter wear in Halo 5. Jackals are also saurian, but they were much more bird-like with narrow elongated heads and quill feathers. Except for CE, I don't know what CE is.
I’ve always prefers the H4-5 jackals, would’ve loved to see them in infinite as a subspecies type thing like the skirmishers, they just look so damn cool
I wish Halo: Reach had kept the Halo 3 jackal animations. It's also pretty interesting how Halo: Combat Evolved's jackals will run away like grunts do when their squad leaders are dead but jackals in other games don't.
@@andyfriederichsen You said that" its interesting that in Halo CE jackals run away like grunts do when they're leader is killed and dont in other games. " the other guy is saying he made a jackal sniper flee in halo 3
I was looking for a video series like this for such a long time. For some time I even considered making it myself, because nothing on UA-cam actually analysed the intricacies and changes to the actual in-game enemies' appearance, attributes and AI's behaviour from one instalment to the next, which is mind boggling given that Halo probably has some of the best enemies in the industry rivaling Doom and Half-life. Almost every other video I found just went into arguably insignificant lore implications of their rank, often talking about ranks fully absent in-game, to the point where you wonder whether the subject matter even warrants an essay, as it has been thoroughly explored in the media the essay references. Your video is beautiful in-depth analysis I was looking for. The editing is very high quality as well and the visual always serves to illustrate the point you're making. And I see that over the series you've also improved your writing and right now I consider your content to be easily the highest quality Halo content on UA-cam. Thank you and keep up the great work, I can see it comes from the place of passion.
I’m not the biggest fan, but I’m perfectly fine with them staying in the game. They seem stronger than original designs and would fit better using the shields and storm rifles while the original design be placed in a marksman/sniper position. I have this opinion with 343’s other covenant redesigns as well since they all look physically stronger than original designs, taking a more shock trooper approach with heavy weapons
I don't know. Everything keeps evolving in Reptiles. (And yes, Birds are basically reptiles. I mean the traditional reptiles!) In Halo 4 everything looks reptile. Elites, Grunts, Jackals. And Grunts and Jackals both have those strange big heads. Looks kinda comic-ish.
The Halo 4 Jackels had one amazing thing going for them and it was only used once. On one of the missions you'll see a Jackal leap towards a civilian. If they made that a main ability of them that would have been way cooler with the Jackals forgoing their shields when depleted or leaping towards the player when reloading. Add in a shield bash that does little damage but pushes the player you'd have a pretty decent attempt to try and brawl a Spartan. Could fit with their nature as scavengers, leaping on an injured foe hoping to finish them off and claim their prize.
I feel like infinite was 343 taking aspects from the old, and learning what they did right and wrong and that’s what they gave us. I love the jackals in the new halo. Easily one of my favorites. Not to mention new combat mechanics
I never noticed the jackals in CE had different colored skin, maybe it was Bungie trying to do Object-Source lighting so it would seem like the blue glow of the shield made them look that way?
So, two questions: A) Once you run out of Covenant, are you gonna move on to other enemy factions, or stuff like weapons and vehicles? And B) Is there any chance you’d be interested in doing a similar series for Destiny? I don’t know if you play Destiny/D2, but given that it’s Bungie’s other modern series, I would /love/ to see you tackle the Fallen, Hive, Vex, Cabal, Taken, etc. just a couple of thoughts. For now, keep ‘em coming, these are some of the best produced Halo videos I’ve ever seen, and definitely my current favorite Halo YT series.
I'm glad classic trilogy jackals(and skirmishers!) are back for Halo Infinite, but I also feel like the Halo 4/5 design could altered a bit and spun off into their own enemy type. Canonically speaking, much like Skirmishers, the 4/5 Jackals are actually a different sub species from the 1-Reach Jackals. Maybe an enemy type that is more hardy than the standard jackal but isn't quite as mobile and aggressive as Skirmishers.
Halo 3 (and odst) probably had the most perfect jackal all things considered in my eyes. Also these videos are really well written, i cant wait for what you have planned next. :)
These jackals are a interesting species unit in the Covenant to me. When it comes to their looks, I always get confuse on which ranks are what since they would wear the same color armor suit and switch up shield colors which only adds in the confusion to me. My personal favorite designs would be Halos Reach and 2 Anniversary since you can tell what rank of jackals you're fighting against. Gameplay I'd say Halo 3, ODST, Reach, and 5.
4/5 jackals are probably one of the coolest designs for any alien in my opinion. I really hope we can have games that have all three subspecies of jackals in the same game.
The Halo 4 and 5 redesign of Jackals is definitely one I don't mind. They looks really nice Still happy to get a more classic look back in Infinite, though. However, I still wouldn't mind seeing the 4-5 Jackals come back as a special unit, kinda like Skirmishers in Reach.
I love all Kig Yar. I would love for a game that has all subspecies fighting together, or who knows, against each other if Halo dabbles into that one day. I pick Halo 2 Anniversary jackals as deffensive mid liners, Halo 3 snipers and marksmen as dangerous back liners, with their H2A appearence, Halo 5 jackals as more agressive front liners and skirmishers as hit and run flankers. Wouldn't that be nice?
Oddly enough, Jackals historically didn’t even have that bad of a relationship with humanity. They seemed willing to do trade and commerce until the covenant went to war, and during the great schism, many once again sided with humanity actually against the covenant. So despite being sneaky little bastards, they would actually be the more likely of the covenant races to mend ties with the UNSC if humanity actually bothered to begin diplomacy with any of their many clans.
"The only way to defeat the halo 2 sniper Jackals is reflexes and map memorisation." Me playing on easy with the scarab beam gun: I don't have such weaknesses
There are many things wrong with what you said about Halo 4, the Jackals using plasma pistols can hit you with great ease, this is even seen in your video, the sniper jackals have an excellent aim in the biggest difficulties, and there is no sense to criticize that a species that uses a shield does not go after enemies, they are a defensive and support class.
I honestly don't see why most people hate Halo 4's art direction so much -- I recognize that it's different, but I thought a lot of the new designs were badass. I think the jackals in Halo 4 are an improvement -- they're much more menacing. Although I agree with the prevailing sentiment that elites looked cooler with their Bungie look.

@Cave Spider skirmishers went extinct in halo reach and the drones went back to their homeworld after the war ended in halo 3
@@omittingisded4810 no they’ve appeared after reach mainly post war
@@eggburger5978 yes they didn't go completely extinct but they are extremely close to extinction after halo reach due to the fact that almost every skirmisher troop was deployed on reach when they started glassing the planet
@@calus_bath_water yeah but those were mostly the males, the females and young males are still alive, but that still causes them to be close to extinction, we just need a new generation to be born and reach breeding age to see the space turkey’s cooler cousins make a comeback
Please keep making these - Spartan types, marines, vehicles, weapons, all of it!!
‘Paid to kill! Not to die!’
Perfect line for a Jackal lol
I feel like the jackals should've had melee a LONG time ago, especially with the talon feet
Pretty sure in Halo 4 there's a moment on that ONI research station level where Chief enters a room and a marine gets tackled and mauled by a jackal on all fours. Why they never gave jackals melee during gameplay but literally had a moment of one mauling somebody makes no sense to me.
@@kriticalitygaming1048 you try biting through a tank or kick it full force and let me know what happens
Basically, this channel is great and every upload makes me excited, keep up the great work, I wish you the best of luck :)
Edit: Also my favorite jackal might have to be the H3 and ODST jackal for gameplay, as they are more advanced and fill more roles on the battlefield without being annoying or traumatizing lol, but for aesthetic design, I love the original CE jackals.
You forgot about the impervious jackels from halo 5 where they can never die if they sleep!
*Cover the evolution of the UNSC Marines!* 😀
From Brown bois to Horrible driving Marines in Halo Reach and chips dubbo in all of his glory
From brown boys to green boys to brown boys to gayboys
You know your gonna die when you see a jackal carrying a laser sniper, without wearing optics
I love how they look in 4 and 5, they look like demon raptors, making them seem fierce and scary
They really need to add more subspecies like seriously it more interesting to see more race of race of well you know
I never understood why people refer elites as dinosaurs as a joke.
And the Grunts also look kinda saurian or at leat like turtles.
@@Kuhmuhnistische_Partei The Halo 4 grunts are scaly rather than the more exoskeletal look of the Bungie Trilogy grunts.
I’ve always prefers the H4-5 jackals, would’ve loved to see them in infinite as a subspecies type thing like the skirmishers, they just look so damn cool
I honestly loved the Halo 4 Jackals
design-wise
IN THE JUNGLE, THE MIGHTY JUNGLE, THE JACKALS FEAST TO NIGHT.
I wish Halo: Reach had kept the Halo 3 jackal animations. It's also pretty interesting how Halo: Combat Evolved's jackals will run away like grunts do when their squad leaders are dead but jackals in other games don't.
I swear I've routed jackel snipers in Halo 3
@@thehypest6118 What does that have to do with my comment?
@@andyfriederichsen You said that" its interesting that in Halo CE jackals run away like grunts do when they're leader is killed and dont in other games. " the other guy is saying he made a jackal sniper flee in halo 3
@@shadow_king12344 Okay, I guess I didn't understand what routed meant. However I have yet to see that in Halo 3.
8:26 but they do.
I personally really like the design of the halo 4/5 jackals. I much prefer it to the their original designs but that's just me
I feel the same exact way!
I’d like it if they were a mix of CE and 4s design
I don't know. Everything keeps evolving in Reptiles. (And yes, Birds are basically reptiles. I mean the traditional reptiles!) In Halo 4 everything looks reptile. Elites, Grunts, Jackals. And Grunts and Jackals both have those strange big heads. Looks kinda comic-ish.
Compared to the original ce design they’re cool, but I like both their and halo 2-reach’s design
every beam rifle shot i see in the video the sound of the beam rifle echoes through my head...
I was actually waiting jackal evoulution for long time.
Correction the CE Jackal shields always had the ability to turn red when hit. It's just that Gearbox and MCC broke it (which got fixed in 2021).
Thank you for the really fun entertaining content you're very much so are appreciated
Hey, you did it! Been waiting for a jackal video!
I think you're getting lucky killing those Reach jackals with grenades. Everytime I try it they dodge 'em!
I was always super sad about the Skirmishers never reappearing in the series. They were a great addition to the roster of the covenant.
I’ve been waiting for this video
In halo 4 everything is a humanoid lizard
Out of all the redesigns that 343 made, I actually like the more dinosaur-like look to the jackals. It’s not my favorite, but it looks cool.
11:14 he’s just standing there MENACINGLY!
Lmao hilarious
Man this channel is so underrated
So, two questions:
A) Once you run out of Covenant, are you gonna move on to other enemy factions, or stuff like weapons and vehicles?
And B) Is there any chance you’d be interested in doing a similar series for Destiny? I don’t know if you play Destiny/D2, but given that it’s Bungie’s other modern series, I would /love/ to see you tackle the Fallen, Hive, Vex, Cabal, Taken, etc. just a couple of thoughts. For now, keep ‘em coming, these are some of the best produced Halo videos I’ve ever seen, and definitely my current favorite Halo YT series.
i think EBR will do UNSC Evolution and the later games Covenant.
the terminator reference was amazing
I remember when I first encountered the Skirmishers, I thought they were a entirely new species for the covenant.
Technically they kinda are
I love the detailed content man. I was a kid when the first game came out, so learning about the changes from every game is awesome.

I like the Halo: Infinite Jackals because they have the original looks with next gen graphics, also they can talk
You got some good halo videos man. Love this stuff on the covenant. I’ve always thought halo had some of the coolest enemy AI.
I actually loved all the jackel designs even 4 it actually look badass
Bruh I forgot I watched this video
still bugs me that they are named after a kind of dog when they are clearly lil dino men
It’s because they’re scavengers.

The Halo 4 and 5 redesign of Jackals is definitely one I don't mind. They looks really nice
Still happy to get a more classic look back in Infinite, though.
Hopefully infinite will have all 3 kigyar together

Halo 3 jackals are legit terrifying
Master chief: I fear no man
Sniper jackle: exits

Oddly enough, Jackals historically didn’t even have that bad of a relationship with humanity. They seemed willing to do trade and commerce until the covenant went to war, and during the great schism, many once again sided with humanity actually against the covenant.
So despite being sneaky little bastards, they would actually be the more likely of the covenant races to mend ties with the UNSC if humanity actually bothered to begin diplomacy with any of their many clans.
It's finally here! 😂

Finally the most underrated species of the whole entire halo universe
Am I the only one who remembers jackals in Halo 2 spawning with plasma rifles?
Exactly 2 of them on Delta Halo do. When your approaching the final temple in the Scorpion. Only PR Jackals in the Entire OT
There was one in reach in the last level.

Never noticed jackels were left handed in every game except reach
