I even repeat some videos.
I love his plain spoken astronomy talks but I have used his videos to help me fall asleep. But then, I've been using great documentaries that feature a good narration for years to learn. Sure, If I'm tired I'll doze off but in the mean time my mind is drawn to something educational rather than to needlessly spiral around my daily worries.

@macsporan it's always possible to mentally extrapolate oneself from one's reality.... philosophers do it a lot (and I'm a student).
I hope Mr. Butler knows that we all think his videos are fascinating and super well presented, and the sleepiness bit just comes from how darn soothing his presentation is. I’d hate to think he was left to believe folks think he’s boring. I love that he’s taken so much time to just put all this information together for free - what a great gift to society from a super smart guy and a very talented educator.
dave butler is a legend. Discovered him a few years ago. As much as i’m interested in Astro Physics, I’m out in minutes watching these

David Butler is one of the best astronomy teachers on youtube. In addition he has helped us all fall asleep many nights. He isn't boring, he is just so soothing and gentle.
His voice is soothing, yes, but the video books he has on Relativity, Cosmology, Standard Model and the space are amazing.
I've recommended David Butler's channel dozens of times.
I listen to his videos before I go to sleep, his voice is silky smooth and the information is mind blowing.
I've watched this entire series about 7 times.

I feel asleep to his videos. Then I wake up knowing about unimaginable things like Laneakea and dark matter lensing. So much amazing content and photos.
I can fall into lucid dreaming and have a degree in Physical Science. These can be a wonderful learning experience as you sleep!

A lot of the best unintentional asmr is all about the editing. Even great asmr channels get it wrong sometimes. This is a pretty damn good one imo.
I should have assumed others were falling asleep using David Butler's voice, too.

This guy is ace. He’s got a ton of 30min vids on his page, most of them have music which is not my fave, but the voice and subject matter are excellent sleep inducing asmr
They all have music and ad free versions.
David Butler's channel is amazingly informative, and I have also used it to fall asleep ever since i found it. If he had 1 million subs his channel would still be under-rated

You must be kidding, do you live under a rock? Dr. Butler is making a documentary for generations to look back on. Say what you want, I have watched every video book he has put out and have enjoyed each and every one of them. But I must admit, I fall asleep. But I watch it again and again!
I like listening to him on a couple of the long ones. Some of his "S" and "C" sounds, sounds like a whistle and pretty loud and sharp.
This guy's whole channel is great. I love it just as much when I pay attention as when I use it for ASMR or sleep. I've come to understand much more deeply things like astronomical distances and the physics of how stars are born, live, and die. He's an absolute treasure.

I have shared this guy’s channel with so many people with insomnia. I mean absolutely no offense to him. He has great information. He just has such a soothing voice. Mix it with the classical music and then I’m out in less than 10 minutes.
I honestly would be honored he's doing a major service. Entertaining, helping people get sleep and most importantly, get education

This is David Butler. One of the best astronomy content producers on UA-cam. His videos are essentially lecture material. There really isn’t much better on UA-cam. He may not be well known to the general public but to those following astronomy and physics on UA-cam this guy is revered.
This is facts. Mr Butler's How Far Away is it science videos will definitely help you get to sleep happily. Its good original content and he's just a laid back fella.

This is more in the realm of a very relaxing college astronomy class, where you never truly fall asleep, but for some reason, you feel quite rejuvinated at the end of the class... Not really sure how that works out, but I think it has something to do with the very calming vibe of Mr. Butler... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I think very few people who watch ASMR videos actually experience ASMR "stimming out." Most think ASMR is just relaxing or is borderline porn (all the super hot girls who do the "roleplay" videos.)
This is way too interesting to make me sleepy. Even Butler's more technical explanation of Hubble's constant was the best I've heard.

Neat channel concept. There’s a channel called Rusty West who tells stories of people disappearing in national parks with nature images and soft music. It’s a great channel. His voice is way chilled out and I fall asleep watching his vids. But yeah, unintentionally asmr.
I dont last with Butler and I love what he teaches its just I cant resist the gentle voice and music....gorgeous universe all in harmony and in excellence.....bliss.
This was by far the best ASMR sleep inducer that I’ve ever listened to.
Been a fan of David's channel for about 5 years mostly for the educational element rather than the calming, although he does have a very calm voice.

I watch David’s channel every night, although I am an avid physics nerd and astronomy buff, his videos are also superb for falling asleep. I use the “how far away is it” playlist, it lasts for hours and I always wake up with it playing.

I’ve figured this whole thing out about 6 months ago and it works great i either fall asleep or I watch something that truly interest me. It’s the proverbial win win secho.
Do the Victor Wooten bass lesson vid. A incredibly talented bass player talks about his experiences and inspirations as a musician and plays some bass aswell. He also has a super relaxing voice.
I just spent the entirety of this video with the speaker of my phone just over the top pole of my baritone guitar's neck pickup, soaked in reverb and playing a weird and ominous, repeating pattern with my fretting hand. His voice and the guitar melted together as they both came out of the speakers. Totally zoned out. Almost trance like. Super cool.
I’ve never made it to the end - He is like the mid-afternoon speaker at a technical conference. Sleep guaranteed!

I absolutely love Mr. Butler's videos. I've been listening to him for about a year and a half now and they are simply amazing. And yes I fall asleep to them most nights. One of my kids accuse me of listening to ASMR… But it's the music it's the imagery the slow discussion and also his tone that's pretty relaxing. I have called him for a year or so Mr. Rogers in space and he's awesome.
Oh yeah… I've learned a ton from him as well.
