  • We got two new babies into the sanctuary! These sweet little goats had a sad start to life after being dumped in a casino parking lot, but we will give them a permanent loving home at the sanctuary! Thank you to the Miami Dade Horse SPCA!

Those people who say to eat your pigs, obviously have never had the privilege of having a true bond with an animal. That bond, that true animal lovers have, that connection, it can’t be taught, you either have it or you don’t. When a animal gives you their complete trust, especially a wild animal, it’s the most amazing and rewarding feeling. I can’t even comprehend how people can hunt animals and have no emotion about it, that’s how deep my love for every animal is, I would rather starve than take the life of an innocent animal.

Yeah most farm animals are more intelligent and emotional than we want to admit too. As humans it’s easier to blind yourself to the impact we have on animals but the truth is still there, they’re sentient beings and deserve a lot better than what they get.
Hope Toffee’s ear gets better and Julie stops being a brat lol! All the animals seem very happy to be at sanctuary, you guys do a a great job!

I have always felt so sorry for livestock animals, it is utterly heartbreaking to me how they are treated. I know it is a fact of life that they are raised for meat, but so sad for them. I wish they were treated better.

Thank you for speaking out on the hypocrisy of one intelligent, sensitive animal being labeled as "food" whereas the other is a "pet". There is no difference between a pig and a dog's life's worth! In fact, many studies have shown that pigs ARE SMARTER than dogs! Indeed, there are tests that have shown fully grown farm pigs are better at cognitive problem solving than 3 yr old human children!
I had a pot bellied pig for 16 years and he was the most amazing companion. He taught me so much about animal thinking and I loved him so much.
I've been a vegetarian my entire life and have never eaten any meat besides fish. Some day i hope to go vegan and completely cut cruelty out of my diet.
Thank you for all that you do to help animals and for speaking out on their behalf! ❤❤❤🐷🐷🐷

I have five mini goats. My dad was like "We have enough goats 🐐. " Then this fall he was wanting more but our current 3 babies are only a year and a bit now. They settle down around 2 years old and are very trainable.
We also have a rescue bunny and 3 babies and my aussiedoodle rescue. (We used to have more dogs and bunnies but they were elderly.). I almost started rehabbing fawn too but found out it'd be a risk to my goats because of the ticks in the area.

Out of curiosity, why couldn't the vet have sedated her (or just nerve-blocked her ear like at the dentist's), cut the ear to get the tag out, then stitched it back? Was he worried about it making the infection worse, or that they'd just end up ripping the stitches out?

Don’t know if you got the tag out yet but I rescued a goat just Iike yours with a infected ear tag and I used a dog dremel tool with a sanding wheel on it and dremeled it down until it broke in half. There was limited pain, bleeding and stress with this way. During the dremel process I tied the goat to the fence while doing it. Hope this tip helps. Also the dremel can be used afterwards on hoof trimming to get the hooves nice and flat.

I’m no pig expert but with dogs teach her to eat in one area and stand between her and where the others are eating. Don’t allow her over to their spot. And vice versa. That way she can have her safe space and the rest of the herd can eat in peace. Eventually she will just go to her spot. Good luck.

Pigs are naturally quite food aggressive. It's incredibly common for them to knock each other around for food. The best thing you can do is to seperate them if the behaviour is troublesome.
Not all pigs are like this though. I have several pigs and only 2 of the 7 are food aggressive.
Pepsi and Samosa push the other pigs around to keep them away from the food so we feed them separately. It's been 4 years and the other all eat together fine.

On the one hand food is food but pets are pets too... what many people dont seem to understand is a balance... and I personally dont find the bullying jokes funny either. The point is that animals eaten for "food" possess the same intelligence and capacity for love as the ones labeled as "pets". The meat industry/factory farming is fast destroying our planet but people will fight tooth and nail to do anything except admit that it's not sustainable. Because they don't want to give up their steaks.

It’s hard to make plans and limits on animals. When you get a call from someone who says they have this [insert specific animal here] who desperately needs a home and some love, who’s gonna say “I wish I could take it, but three is our limit and we already have three.” No, you’re gonna say “How do I get this animal?” You make do until you end up rehoming the animal or enlarging your area so you can keep it with you. And you never know what kind of animal may be needing you, so it’s not as though you can say “I’ll never take in a bobcat.” You get contacted by the DNR who tells you they have this young bobcat that can’t be released into the wild, and if they can find no sanctuary for it, it will have to be euthanized. You ask them to hold on to it for a few days until you can build a secure area for it. You don’t say “Yeah, that’s too bad. Wish I could help the poor fella out, but…”

Back in the day I had 13 pigs, they are hilarious, but one day the landlord came over and said y’all have to get rid of the pigs the neighbors are complaining about the smell, as she said I can’t smell anything myself but we have to please the neighbors or have problems, that gave us 2 weeks to find homes for them. We found someone a week later that would take them all that next week I found out they became meals for the family. 😢😢😢😢😢 it was definitely heart wrenching for me. Now we have one goat left we had 2 but we lost our male a couple yrs ago he was 12-13 yrs old and our female is still going strong, she’s now going on 15 yrs old. And she shares half the yard with the horse. lol before buddy past we took the horse to the other side on the pavement to get her hoofs clipped and them dern goats where having absolute fits because Jill was out of their view. It’s funny how animals become attached to each other. It wonderful to see.

I'm a meat eater, but I also love animals. I couldn't eat an animal I know personally, it'd be a horrific experience. Though, humans are supposed to eat other animals, I think there are ethical ways to obtain it. If I had to butcher my own food, I'd probably acquire a love of fish.

Have you ever thought about the fact that the animals you eat possess the same individual personalities and capacity for love as the ones you've gotten to know?
