We live in a universe filled with awe and wonderment so much so that scientists of all disciplines have been exploring the world around us for hundreds of years. Although we have made great advances there is still an immeasurable gap in what there is left to discover. Alex Filippenko joins me today to share his vast knowledge as an astrophysicist that has been exploring fundamental physics, black holes, galaxies and more for over 40 years. He breaks down quantum entanglement and the expanding universe in a way that is digestible for nearly everyone.

QUOTES:
“In a sense, we are the way in which the universe has found to know itself.” [5:30]
“Work hard at maintaining an open mind so you don't get fossilized, so you don't get set in your ways.” [51:59]
“If you ever feel comfortable with quantum physics, it probably means you haven't thought about it sufficiently” [1:00:21]
“But one of the great things about homosapiens is that we embrace technical challenges. We go for it, we climb the mountain because it's there, first because it's interesting, but secondly, because it ends up having unanticipated spin offs.” [1:14:26]
“to have novel insights, I've just got to take in data that I can't yet predict how it's going to be useful.” Tom Bilyeu [1:17:33]
“as physicists, as scientists, initially, we come across these new ideas, quantum entanglement, and you have to just struggle with them and work hard on them and approach them from different perspectives. It's not going to be easy, but good things are hard to do and hard things are good to do.” [1:19:26]
“it's the quality of the time that you live. That's actually more important than the duration” [1:23:29]
“You can't just say there are a lot of stars out there, and surely they're teaming with life. There are a lot of factors that lead to life, and then intelligence and mechanical ability at our level. And I think they're fairly rare. I don't think we're unique, but I think they're pretty rare.” [1:56:11]

If you could ask Alex Filippenko any question what would it be?
Hyyy Tom 💕❤️👍 lots of love from India 💕
I am not religious either. But, l believe in GOD ! BELIEVE OR NOT. IT DOES NOT CHANGE A THING .
is the blackhole a star on the other side? Is whitehole basically a star?
Richard Feynman's name is misspelled in the timestamp description.
2 questions-1. Is a theoretical speculation the same as an intelligent hypothesis? 2. Could a white hole be at the center of stars and everything coming out of it fuels the star? Damn I hope you didn’t ask that.
Thank you very much Tom for all you do!
Alex was my freshman astronomy Professor at Berkeley back in the 90s. Because of him, I'm still fascinated by the topic.
Tom definitely brings the goods ☺️ Wow, to be taught by one of the greats. Amazing
Alexception
Very very jealous of you
80 yrs old and still learning. Good diet exercise and new things. Definitely could not be described as a vegetable.
"We are the universe becoming aware of itself."
my eyes open in amazement when I read titles like this. This is my type of conversation. Thank you God ❤️
I was in Carbondale, IL for the 2017 eclipse. Alex isn't exaggerating, it's other-worldly. Even the affect on nature is amazing-All the birds and insects went quiet.
Amazing😍
I had Filippenko at Berkeley when I was there. Great to see him here. Wow!
anybody else noticed how Alex Filippenko's line of thought on the thing about 'the universe is trying to discover itself through us' is so cloz to what Donald Hoffman what saying that 'consciousness is trying to discover/Understand itself through us through different arts and faculties'
Mind blowing for sure!
@@lisabancer you felt that too for real? as a person who does not really have a religious ground(matter of fact I fuck with the idea of the yin and yang only) cozzz ahh obviously they have soo many loopholes its not even funny(how I feel about them religions), I found this argument really solid. and gawdd I just appreciate Tom for bringing such people on
He is talking in such an amazing way his voice is damn sweet 🥰😁😁😁🥰
Instant chills when Alex said that on April 8 2024 there will be a total solar eclipse....USA i will be there on that day as it will be my 32th birthday 💯
Alex Filipenko is absolutely one of my faves. Great interview/conversation. I was smiling thru most of this episode. Great stuff!!! Gives new meaning to the term Crazy AF. Hahaha
One my favourite ! Thank you Tom for doing this interview... super interesting!!

Thank you! This was fantastic!🌟🤯🌟
So much information, I gotta listen again!
Tom not gonna lie, this conversation blew my mind 🧨
Thank you so much Tom for opening my mind in new dimensions.
I love how Tom draws his experts' answers with his sincere interest 😍 I enjoy his input as much as the amazing guests he brings on! Thank you Impact Theory!
Wow, mind blown. What a fascinating topic and what a legend! I could listen to Alex all day
The Question is, what could we NOT ask him? I would love to have all of his knowledge. Great episode! Okay the balloon example just blue my mind!!!
Alex is one of the brilliant ASTRO man we have it's always a privilege to listen to his lecture. Thanks.
Absolutely amazing! Loved it and I could listen to this interview for hours! Please bring Michio Kaku in the show too...
What a creator, God created things we will never fathom no matter how advanced we are.
Man, I could listen to conversations about astrophysics for an eternity and never get bored, really loved it and would love to see more astronomy & physics-related interviews!
Its all bullshit
I'd want to know his thoughts in consciousness all the way down. Thanks Tom! Amazing Episode!
I love the episodes where you call physicists on your show the most, please do more!
When I started on my spiritual journey I started to get downloads of science astrology and alot on the Universe and was fascinated and amazed it was like the Universe telling me who my true self was and how magical this Universe is and the Love I felt was a Love I never felt before I felt connected to all 💙💜💖🌏🌠
You are soo blessed to be so young.......& discover yourself......I’m Still in process, lol ( gotta remove blockages I guess)
Such a great interview!
Every time I go to Trader Joe’s I purchase Questbars so I can tip Tom for these awesome videos
I love where your head is at! But he sold his company so I’m sure he probably doesn’t make any money from that anymore.
So amazed, you reached the 2 millions already.
What an interesting conversation, glad I stuck till the end. Thank you.
AMAZING Conversation!! Thank you Gentlemen ❣I've been delving into my own education & understanding of Quantum Physics. Never knew these topics would be so thrilling & relevant! Wish more people looked to elevation, inspiration & education. Awesome our tech now allows us to learn our best options. Our earth can benefit with more people like you Alex & Tom AND definitely more Professors like you Alex. 🌍💕🌄🌠🌌
Great choice of guest!!
I watched his Teaching Company 99-part lecture series.
I am hooked how deep and important is the subject and how much impact it have on our lifes😊
"In a sense, we are the way in which the universe has found to know itself."-- Alex Filippenko
❤❤❤
Carl Sagan said it best "We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself"
I was doing some research on what questions can be asked to an astrophysicist because I am having Dr. Becky on my show soon.. Thanks Tom for the video
Always the best videos 💕
Damn Tom you are smart, even with less knowledge about the subject but you took it well. Interviews like this is what i live for
Absolutely loved this, Alex sounds like a top dude 👍
“The hard days are what make you stronger.” Sharing some love from small UA-camr
What would happen if a bag of Athletic Greens were to get sucked into a massive black hole? Would it have enough of a combination of powerhouse nutrients to eventually pull itself out?
😆
Been studying quantum computing lately.
It's mind blowing.
It's incredible how the study of these far out ideas can color your daily existence
Thank you Tom!
This guy is just GREAT.
Great guest. I have often thought that the dark matter problem was not that the matter was not viewable to us, in but that it did not exist within this dimension. In my hypothesis the gravitational effect of dark matter is due to gravity bleeding, or attracting, across the dimensional membrane (for lack of a better descriptor). These other dimension universes that lay adjacent to our universe provide the gravity for dark matter. The matter exists but in another dimension. Just a thought.
Really nice insights 👍
This was a great interview, thank you. But the 4th dimension talk is giving me flashbacks of calc. III. 😑.
If you think, year 3021 technology Tom and Alex are talking about is impossible, think about how year 2021 technology would seem impossible to year 1021 people.
Checking in from the DMV
Man, this is SO interesting. wOw
“Leaders can let you fail and yet not let you be a failure.” Have a good day everyone
I enjoyed every minute of this interview Tom! Thank you
checking in from the DMV
This man is simply magnificent. If you take the time to really listen to him, he is brilliant
Thank you.
Great chat! At first glance I thought he was wearing a Wutang logo on his shirt.
Maybe the only way to find the truth of everything is to ask the one who created it all
Not even sure how to spell it bc I’m average- but I see “tachyons” and can show you how to see them by use of a video camera. I know- I sound weird but I’m not the only person who sees this and have googled and done research to figure out what this stuff if that I see. It could be something else but it’s everywhere and transparent, but moving so fast and when I focus, it’s so colorful.
Really nice session. Are there any discoveries for example in the CERN or else where which proves the existence of gravitons?
Cool Nasa shirt Tom - very appropriate for the occasion 👍🏻
This topic is so terrifying lol. I enjoy considering space and time travel so I don’t why it invokes such terror. Haha
The only reason we have knowledge is because God gives us the knowledge. We are not here by accident, God wanted us to be like him so he would not be alone! I love to hear other people’s thoughts but my personal opinion is that there is no way we are only here by chance.
I absolutely agree! There is NO WAY that inanimate matter can form animate beings who can rationalise and sense sensations like love, honesty, justice, and the knowledge of morality.
here is a far out idea that occurred after taking a break halfway through to do some exercising. just a thought flash~~what if the 'rips' or 'black holes' are between the two hemispheres of each of our brains. As V.S. Ramachandran said here.."I think more fundamentally that there is a translation barrier between the 2 hemispheres...." again..just a thought. Thank You for all the inspired talk!!!
Tom picked nasa t shirt for this. Wonderful
Nasa is a facade.
I'm coming back tomorrow when I'm microdosing LSD lol
😂🤣😂🤣🤯🤣😂🤣😂🤣
lmao our arse is gon die from bewilderment
I have no idea about physics but just thinking ‘could -ve mass be something that eilll be discovered when we start collapsing like a black hole’ 😯
We all in the universe should sing a verse in unity
Can you people activate the CC feature for those of us who need that. Sometimes it is activated --sometimes not. Is there someone tasked with doing that or not?
I don't believe in organized religion and "their" interpretation of "God." I believe in being humble, peaceful, positive, empathetic, and productive. I also believe that there is "something" much greater than us here on earth.
It's my greatest wish everyone has a negative free and positive day! ☮❤🌻
27:07 me too !! i believe so ..
thanks to Neil deGrasse Tyson, i understand astrophysics well now or its terms :)
this's so interesting xD
thank u Tom ^^
Wah! 4 minutes in and my understanding and respect for God as Creator of this magnificent machine, our body is beyond awe.
you must be easy to put in awe then...kinda like a kid in a candy store? LOL
Would it be possible for the white hole to be on the other side of the black hole? I mean things usually comes in pairs and it’s mentioned that no white hole has been found so far and it’s existence is questionable if I got it right? So what if the white hole is on the other side of the black hole. If the matter is so dense what if it’s the opposite on the other side? Imagine the possibility being able to come through the black matter to the white matter. I just like the idea :). Anyway many thanks for such a great talk . Feeling inspired and definitely would like to expand my no existing knowledge on this matter:)
Good morning does light photons travel using electric magnetic fields?
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
This dude is a gangster. What an incredible communicator and intellect. Remarkable humanoid.
Whenever ppl talk about black holes they might as well be talking about advanced math that realistically very very few care to understand because it doesn't put food on the table.
I'm glad Tom has a sense of what 13 billion years is lol.
LOL.
I was wondering how much money they make as an Astrophysicist and it’s only around $120k per year, they should get paid a lot more for their contribution to this world.
totally agree bro we need this people
Whoa... I have to save for later. 2 hours?!?! Ever seen before?
I conceived this a long time ago
If you're a aware and read remaining (not burned by invasion ) science in Hindu I know few stuff, like Tycoon particles.
I always say are we from a bloodline or starline!? & does this have something do with how we leave the world...
How did everything begin ? Dam thats a good question and why are humans the only ones that can think and ask those kind of questions ??
@Max Christian If it never began than how are we here now ?
Love from🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
I believe the reason why we can understand how we were created… is because WE EACH INDIVIDUALLY (AND all of humanity COLLECTIVELY) are GOD… but throughout our history since everyone had their own revelations we continue to argue who’s actually right :) which is actually very human…
Is Armaggedon coming in which world be destroyed or part of the Earth?
Some day it will, the Creator first desires men to know the true and Living God the one not in a grave, the Brillant Creator of the universe is none of other that Alpha and Omega, maker for him and by him, the Lord Jesus Christ. The heavens declare the Glory of God! John 1
Thank you. I’ve come alive.
*_Amazing how an Atheist talk on God's equation and at the same time disbelieve in God._*
It ok to be an ateist... They are better than you believers.. U guyz believe in 'man made' fabricated lies... An ateist would always seek knowledge and information.... U islamist just call people kaffirs...
This is awesome. U guys are the black hole bomb! I feel extra stupid. Says a basic college grad
Isn't everything that is subject to creation and comes into existence a white hole technically? Alan Watts said we came out of this world. The void must be somehow informed.. like a seed becoming a plant. 40:00
what he says about 1:40:00 ....why is this so similar to what sumerians seems tried to tell us?.. i mean..they knew about the solar system.. XD
What if the white wholes in this universe are represented by the sudden appearance and disappearance of UFOs that seem to materialize and dematerialize in a matter of seconds? What if they’re just crossing from a dimension where the physical laws are different or do not exist?
👏🏽✨✨✨
Me too, I am actually an atheist. But I do use the word "god" all the time and I use it strictly as a synonym for nature/universe and never to refer to Bible character who gave up his son or whatever (whatever the story says)...
So, singularity. Everyone knows there's no such a thing. Intuitively people know it even. Everything in the Universe comes in pairs. "Black Holes" come in pairs. One is pushing and one is pulling energy (venting energy) between dimensions. Time to rethink with these concepts. Now, that that's out of the way. We have to talk about the 2 unknown/undiscovered laws of physics: Strong and Weak Inter-dimensional Forces. This will show "dark matter and dark energy" to be these instead. Oh there's so much math to be invented yet to play with these concepts.
It’s excruciating listening to professor Tom interrupting the guest so frequently. I wonder if there’s a way fo watch this without Tom’s interruptions.
Does quantum entanglement prove the existence of God?
How does science explain death?
