"Everybody likes to accessorize these things like it's an M4. It's Not." Best quote for a modern fighting shotgun ever.
Beneli: *sad M4 noises*
@@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz Only thing I've done to my Maverick 88 is change the grip out for an M4 style collapsible grip.
I like a light for mine, that’s it, really.
@@kyrozudesoya1829those blackhawk things are awful
Not sure what exactly you mean a match safer to throw in a emergency round speed loaders red dots a light etc. useful stuff nothing too stupid
It’s nice to see the instructor interview to get a flavor of their personality and theory. I say keep this up.
I agree wholeheartedly.
Agree. Interesting insight from people who know what they’re talking about is good.
That's probably the nicest camera that's ever been pointed at Steve, something uncanny about seeing him in this high a resolution. Up til now I thought he only lived in real life and 240p.
🤣😂 Agreed!
Steve is one of my friends that I know will tell the unvarnished truth. Too many people dismiss the shotgun because they have not developed the skills to run one effectively and efficiently. A well maintained and equipped shotgun used by a trained gun owner is a devastating CQB weapon. It's significantly harder to run a shotgun in a training class compared to running a AR/AK in class.
Love the shotgun content. Most gun channels ignore them, I'm glad you're giving them their due. Still a very effective weapon and a valid choice for defense.
Great format. I'd love to see Rhett Neumayer, Claude Werner, Wayne Dobbs, Darryll Bolke, Tom Givens, Craig Douglas or a number of other guys in this format.
I'm planning to run into at least two of those guys before the end of the year, and would like to see the others before too long.
@@LuckyGunner that would be amazing
@@LuckyGunner Good to know, we'll be looking forward to it!
Steve is such a good communicator that anyone watching this video should feel complelled to take a shotgun class and learn how to do it the right way.
Hit the head on the nail!! I love my shotgun. When I first hit the streets in Huntsville, Alabama, patrol officers didn’t have shotguns. Eventually issued, they were the only long guns we carried for a good many years. I find it to be versatile and flexible to the mission, and easily a match for patrol rifles in most of the engagement distances faced by officers.
Took both his shotgun and pistol class in one long weekend in 2017, absolutely worth every penny. I still reference the notes I took those days and glean something new from them.
Thinking about doing the same soon in May since he will be in Crete, Illinois an hour away from me. Question. How tiring is it take the 2 day clases since I have an hour each way both days to get to the classes? Would it be too much you think?
@@mannyaguilar67 That's kinda dependent on your level of fitness. I made it through the weekend with a 6 hour drive both ways. Had Monday off work and slept most of it! If you have the opportunity I would say go for it.
@@artemas9336 Thanks for the reply. That helps a lot in making my decision. I don't get Steve this close often so I will go for it and maybe take a day off Monday..
I had to qual with an 870 in the CG (1988) We shot standing, kneeling and from the hip! Love a shotgun. I used one when I was a cop and still use one for home defense (I live in a neighborhood) and it fills my requirements w/o worry about over penetrating (#4buck) my brick home. “ A single round of buckshot to the torso almost always results in an immediate change of behavior.” Chris Baker
Steve is a great guy and an awesome trainer. He is not trying to sell you a bunch of crap you don't need. he gives it to you straight
Shooting my 1301 makes me giggle it’s so much fun, I just love blasting big holes in paper targets with Fiocchi low recoil slugs (arthritis). Thanks Chris
1:53 '....like an M4 - it's not. Alright - it's a lot more violent weapon, a lot more violent gun...' - Paul likes that! Direct answers by a shotgun master - awesome! Instructors take note - the rest of you - 'don't be lazy'..... Nice job Chris!
He is 100% right about everything! I've taken a couple of shotgun classes. One taught by Louis Awerbuck and one by Bill Davison at Tac Pro. Louis Awerbuck focused a lot on what was around your target. In front and behind. As far as bolt on's go, a good 18.5 shotgun with a 4+1 capacity can out-shoot YOU right out of the box. Bolting crap to it won't make you any better at using it. Check the basic boxes. A good ammo delivery system (side saddle/shotgun card/dump pouch), a good set of sights, a simple 2-point sling, a light and you're set to go to a class and learn without fighting your gear.
Louie Awerbuck and Leigh Lambert were friends of mine. R.I.P. Louie and Pat Rogers.
When I think of Awerbuck I think of that video "Death on Sunny Afternoon" with Pat Rogers (look it up). Gd what a hilarious video lol. "Launch a Democrat" just brill
That’s an underappreciated comment. I swapped my magazine extension for a very durable light. That’s good enough.
I prefer a 1 point on a shotgun. Either way, 100% get a sling.
Great info from Steve in his normal no-nonsense style. Every time I see an interview with Steve I remember why I want to take one of his classes when my schedule matches up with his. Really good video, thanks for putting it up for all of us.
It was great shooting with ya that day! Learned a heckuva lot from Steve.
Y'all, take this class, it's a great starter for learning shotguns. Learned a lot about my gun and gear, found that some of the kit I had wasn't right for me and wound up running my backup shotgun, a 5-shot wood-stocked Mossberg, better than my original defense gun. And Steve's classes are super affordable, I think I spent more on an Airbnb and gas than the actual class itself and the ammo I shot
Steve is an amazing instructor! His shotgun course is on my wishlist for sure.
Great content in such a short and sweet package. Love the format. Only thing I’d ask is that you read the question out loud, so that I can listen to the video rather than having to look down every time there’s a pause in talking to figure out the question.
Love the interview. Almost nothing replaces the hands on training, especially from such a highly qualified instructor!
Great content from Steve! I took a pistol course with him in 2016 - helped so much!
Aim for the pelvic girdle to reduce the chance of over penetration. So simple, so true. I'm not a shotgun guy, but this applies universally. Thanks for the video!
I've thought this was a good idea too, because almost certainly some rounds or pellets are going to be sailing past or through the target in moments when adrenaline is flowing, and if they are headed at chest or head level, well... Let's not pretend we are all going to accurately figure out our background completely in one or two seconds.
brassfetcher had (maybe still has) a video of a simulated pelvic girdle using sim-bone being hit by a 12 gauge. Absolutely brutalized it, a person would be quite literally physically incapable of standing after that.
Veterans only go for headshots.
And this is just scratching the surface of the knowledge he offers.
I get the impression that he's forgotten more than most people will ever know.
I went to Steve’s class in January, in California. Awesome class and instructor. I highly recommend his shotgun classes.
And yes, please more instructor interviews like this.
I just love shotguns. I agree people have left them behind for AR platforms and for pistol caliber carbines. I get it they are really good but no one can downplay the lethality of a good shotgun. Awesome video. Thanks.
I’ve known Steve for many years now. In short: He knows his stuff.
I don’t know of an instructor who takes as many classes as Steve does. No joke: If he’s not holding a class, he is taking one. He’s always on the road.
He can take all that knowledge, sift through it all, try it all, work with it all, determine what is good info and what is not, and refine some and delete others.
The result is he will teach us all the good.
Everything Steve said is solid gold there. Excellent video. I agree, take a class. I have one scheduled for February! I My last one, different crew / company, and really looking forward to this one. I have been shooting shotguns since I was a kid. I learned combat shotgun fist in the USMC at age 19. I am 61 and still training. Stay safe and stay frosty all you shotgun enthusiasts.
This was awesome. Definitely more of these q+a videos would be appreciated
Great format, really like seeing the instructor knowledge and hearing what he sees on the range and during classes. So much attention to rifle and pistol everywhere out there. Shotgun is under rated in so many ways. Fantastic options for home and vehicle set ups. Thanks Chris!
"The gun is simple - it doesn't have to be complex."
Sage advice. Too many people want to turn their shotguns into decked-out ARs (also generally a mistake, imo, but trendy). There's advantage in simplicity.
Bingo, I really don’t deck out carbines or shotguns with stuff that I have no use for. Sights, weapon light and that’s about it.
Hunted with shotguns and clay games from age 12 on. I understand a 12 gauge pump shotgun and all its loadings. I can definitely ruin your day with one.
I'm calling it now if this format moves forward.
Daryl bolke talking about wheelguns
I see Steve featured a lot in another channel I sub to, Practically Tactical. Happened to meet some of the guys behind that channel when I took my first firearms course several years back with Michigan Defensive Firearms Institute. Been back once but need to do another!
Great interview! No one talks about the shotgun very often. Keep the interviews coming!
That was great! Really enjoyed the format, and Steve's manner and direct answers. Cheers!
Steve is a great guy and a good friend. Glad to see you feature him.
Nicely done Chris. And, Steve's thoughts towards the end - priceless.
The internet is an awesome learning tool and you can learn a great deal by using it to your advantage and putting in the work to do your research. Still there's no substitute for getting out there and practicing. Great vid
Always appreciate you keeping the faith with shotguns Chris, it really is under served content in guntube. Would love to see a segment on suppressing shotguns in the future.
Can’t tell you how much I respect & appreciate all your content. I’m one of those rare guys on the left that happens to own a few firearms. It seems every gun related video I watch …. well, they all seem to have a political tinge. So it is so refreshing to address the issues in an adult & comprehensive manner. Thank you. (but I’ll still keep my zombie gun - lol)
Really enjoyed the class , and thanks for the great interview with Steve afterwords .
It's great to see when Chris provides us with some insight of the classes that he has taken. He expands our perspective of the different types of training that is available for different types of firearms. I yet don't have a defensive shotgun so I would have loved to have gotten Steve's perspective on pump action vs semi-auto. I heard that semi-autos can have more issues than pump-action, but that would be another interesting video from Chris Baker. Is a semi-auto more reliable than a pump action or is it the other way around, or is it the lack of training that makes the shotgun lock up?
Love this guy. Super smart.
I’m guilty of watching videos. Owned firearms a long time. Just took my first class. I learned that I have a lot to learn.
I like the format and the length of the video- rich in content over a relatively short run-time. Thumbs up and well done.
Chris, I thought this was excellent, I appreciated it greatly, and I urge you/Lucky Gunner to have similar presentations.
Good solid advice, Steve is an experienced guy
Videos are a great way to *get started and keeping yourself informed* but they are not a replacement for trigger time.
I would love to see more questions and general tips from this man 😎
@@SPIKESPIEGEL1969 Just started with shotguns, I'm in the Communist Republic of New York. Looking into the Beretta 1301 Tactical on Saturday. I have been renting firearms at ranges in New Jersey. I just got all my permits, trust me, I make an effort. I want to do some local classes 1st.
I’m late to the game here but I loved this format, Chris. Grazie!
Steve has a world of knowledge and love listening to him on IG. Always learning something. 😊😃👍🏽
That was an awesome class Chris! Good meeting and training with you! Fisher classes are always a good time
Had not heard of Steve Fisher. Q and A format introduced me to Mr. Fisher and some excellent information. Thanks
Shotguns are incredible for so many things. My father was a shot gunner. We used them for about everything when we were growing up.
This was good. This is a good way to be introduced to reputable, vetted instructors and get more information on classes they’re holding while getting an idea of what their in-person classes are like. More vids like this, please!
Time well spent!! Thank you VERY much!! 👍😁
Great video. Really appreciate Mr Smith’s honesty and him sharing his insights. Better than how-to videos.
223 and 12 gauge are two of the most versatile rounds for country folk, but 12 gauge offers large game stoppage.
Really good interview
One of my favorite Lucky Gunner videos ever.
Absolutely do more of these.Very beneficial and we thank you.
Sentinel Concepts's "Practical Shotgun" was an insanely informative class. I went in knowing so little about shotguns that I had an entire page of questions that I wanted to ask Steve when I got the chance. It turns out that I didn't have to even ask most of my questions since he just answered them before I could ask! I even left with answers to questions that I didn't even know to ask before the class. I'm still a yucky Millennial who likes boring ol' ARs more than shotguns but I know so much more about shotguns thanks to Steve's class. It's also pretty cheap compared to most classes out there.
Excellent format! Thank you!
That was excellent. I would like more of those interviews. Yes, get out there and shoot the weapon and see how you do and how it does!
This gentleman is practical. I like his style
I love Lucky Gunner. A great website to a great UA-cam channel. You are an invaluable resource.
how could we not like the format? good info presented very clearly.
Love the video/ format - keep it up!
Thank you Steve
Steve Fisher is a no bullshit guy
Very good advice. I'd like to take this guy's course hands down.
Very helpful to hear from an expert and also, I am already one of your customers. Thanks for this post
Yes please!!! Would love more stuff like this
Took a handgun class from Steve 2011ish. Great instructor
This format was awesome. Well done, Sir.
Great video!!! Great info and I like his “old school” mindset. I will take training courses from him because of this video. When possible feature him more often!!!!! It is clear, when it comes to shotguns, he has forgotten more than most of will ever know. Thanks again for the great video from an expert!!!!!
His last line says it all: "Don't be lazy".
Pure gold perspective, superbly edited.
I really enjoy your videos. They are all so well executed and I’ve learned from each of them. I also enjoyed this new Q&A format and look forward to more. Thanks for the great videos.
good format. good concept. of course it helps to have an articulate and knowledgeable interviewee👍🏻
I do like this format. Great questions, Chris. Well done
Great information. Steve always tells it like it is.
My side saddle failed after 50 shells of #8... it was a premium brand supposedly. Velcro from here on out
Solid info from Steve.
Loved it! Great Q&A…. Keep that going. Thanks!
Yes a big thank you. I had no idea how shotguns malfunction before this.
Fantastic video. Steve proving once again- Wisdom over Knowledge!
Awesome stuff. Love the format.
Steve is the dude.
I live in California. Gee, I wish I could buy ammo from you. Thanks for all the information you provide.
Quite Informative ! Yes, More Please ! Sounds Like A Much Needed Class For Most Of Us !!!
Yeah, this was flat out excellent, Chris! More of this, please.
Still gold. Thx
Chris, love your videos, and especially the ones about shotguns.
Great points! I'd like to see more of these.
great info. love my mossberg shockwave. 00 buck and slugs . bring it on.
Great video. Would like to see more of this style. Thanks for the content.
This is fantastic and really made me rethink my shotgun game, thanks!
That man is straight forward and sharp. He must of been a company commander/drill instructor at boot camp, if not he should have been! I myself was a corrections officer, US NAVY, giving boot camp (part 2) instructions to detainees/prisoners after being awarded 30 days in the brig after a summary court-martial. A 10 HUT! That is all, carry on.
Good video, good format, thanks
I’ve got a Mesa Tactical side saddle for my Benelli Supernova; I’m confident it’s good but I knew from the get go to loctite, I’m amazed people don’t think to do that.
Yes, more of that type of format, very informative
