Can confirm, the Huey pilots are real people. There are legitimately people who just train and fly Huey's on one map that uses them a bunch. They made this game free on epic recently and some people decided it was a good idea to try and become a Huey pilot their first day playing. I have never had less fun on that map
you nailed it right around 6:09 ... There's so many people exactly like that who want to be rewarded for THINKING about my positioning as opposed to just outgunning an opponent with superior reflexes or meta weapon. When EVERYTHING is hardcore, it makes the experience not only more immersive but way more rewarding.
The fact that you DONT die in one shot is the thing I love about this game. You have different organs that all deplet your health in a different rate. I love it :D
If you enjoyed this one I would definitely recommend Red Orchestra 2 / Rising Storm. It's the predecessor of RS2 and still has 3-5 active servers :) It even has fully modelled tank interiors!
My best memory on this game is sitting scared in a corner defending a point with some teammates while hearing fortunate son play over voip from an american soldier roasting my teammates like marshmallows with a flame thrower over the hill from me, as the song gets closer and closer, my teammates screams in agony and pain got louder and louder.
Gives me the same vibes as when he played contractors (i think) "Hey um, are you shooting at us? Cuuuz we're friendlies. It's ok tho, you missed like all your shots."
6:50 No, one of my favourite memories of this game when it came out was jumping in a huey as a passenger, the pilot dodging rockets, landing then flying off after we all jumped out and marched through rice paddies. Very badass.

I know you keep telling everyone to skip it, but your combination of deep shame and me having no idea what’s going on as it happens is goddamn amusing, and i love it.
What I love and it isn’t in other games, is that when you are near a ledge you will mount your weapon automatically, like if the window/wall/ and other stuff and it’s a bit higher than your eyesight your weapon will mount up on top of the ledge
@@kolaach94 This was also a mechanic in Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm 1, where you would snap to cover. And to a lesser extent this mechanic was present in Red Orchestra 1/Darkest Hour.

And the fact you can buy the game for 3 dollars any day of the week is criminal.
Been playing this game since launch (at 800 hrs), and more than 1500 hrs in ro2, and the best way I could describe these games is as accessible realism. The gun play just feels so tight. Glad you found this game, it’s truly a great time if you put the hours in to understand all the quirks of each map and weapon.
I found this game through the plastic army men maps years ago, but never figured out what it was called thank you Habie for including the Christmas section, and happy holidays.
"OMG Joseph Stalin just killed everyone on their team" is an underrated line. For real though. RS2 is an incredible game. Definitely the most fun Ive had in a military themed PvP game. The christmas mode speaks for itself.
These Tripwire games (Red Orchestra/Rising Storm) are the perfect "milsim" balance, like you said. More realistic and tactical than traditional FPS games, but less serious and technical than true milsims. They will always hold a place in my heart.
The 1-2 shots to kill is part of what made Onward so terrifying. That and the gun shots being far louder than any other sound in the game. But yeah it's crazy how much it changes the gameplay. 3-4 bullets to kill and you have run and gun call of duty. 1-2 bullets to kill and you have the most terrifying game of hide and seek where everyone is both hiding and seeking.

Obviously this is just an example of how it could be done, but this would add so much realism feel and encourage teamwork and squad teamplay with one guy with an M60, one medic, 3 guys with M16's, one guy with a scoped battle rifle and one guy with a flame thrower and grease gun or bazooka and grease gun as well as mines or explosives. So much potential !
It's set up so that if you get shot in the foot or an arm, you begin to limp/lose control of your gun. Hold a button to apply a bandage before you die. Not a medical system by any mean, but it's good enough.
