🤬Sony blocked this video and the audio of the song was removed. This is so annoying because there are lots of channels that have this same video but ours was singled out.
Tool is one of the most requested bands on the channel and after many suggestions, we chose Sober as our first song. This was Alexis's first time hearing Tool and seeing the amazing stop motion video for the song. One of the most unique bands from 90s and on the list of Burch's favs.

You need to follow this with Green Jelly - 3 Little Pigs, Burch, I know that you know why.....
The claymation was done by the guitarist Adam Jones who also worked as a Hollywood Special Effects guy before they went big. Look for his movie credits.
Adam also does all the artwork for their album covers and his guitar guitar tech is who Maynard for perfect circle with tool can’t do anything because of the record label
@@The_Watchbar Adam only did the art for Undertow. They used the art of Cam de Leon for Ænima and Alex Grey for the last three albums.
Fred Stuhr directed this video with Adams models . Fred sadly died later in a car wreck
I was today years old when I learned these facts about Adam. Wouldn't surprise me if he was the "Mr. Jones" of Counting Crows fame. 😜
Also went to high school with Tom morello and Toms mother was his fav teacher
My first introduction to TOOL was at the 92' Lollapalooza on the side stage when their only album out was Opiate . I was blown away and it was enhanced by the Jim Rose freak show that proceeded it . That concert with Pearl Jam , Soundgarden , Ministry , Ice Cube and The Red Hot Chili Peppers was beyond incredible . Too played a few songs from Undertow and they were so amazing they should have been on the main stage . Definitely one of the greatest concerts I've seen and that's saying a lot . PK
Although I never had considered Tool to be "industrial", I can see where this could originate to. They had this crystal clear, cutting thru guitar sounds and very mathematic rhythm structures, that made them so iconic.
Also, the production of their early work is incredible, I am a huge fan of Sylvia Massy's work up until today. Incredibly productive and creative person - and extremely funny. And for sure her work was a good part of their success. She dropped a job offer from Prince to work on unknown bands like Tool in their beginning.
Tool is definitely one of these bands that were incredibly influential on everything after them, and I would rate them on one level with Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack or even Radiohead. Legends for a reason.
When Tool came out - and in particular this video came out - it was such a profound moment in music to me. I'd never heard or seen anything like it and it took my breath away. You knew they were going to leave their mark on the world, and they have.
You guys just opened a can of worms with TOOL. Enjoy the journey! 😊
I would suggest The Pot sometime in your future. It is the most radio-friendly song Tool has made and really shows off Maynard's vocal range. No videos needed, the audio is fine so you concentrate on the music.
I just LOVE the bass tone in this song! Tool is really Progressive Metal, more so in their more recent stuff, but, always Prog.
Since I heard the first 10 seconds of Sober in '92 they have been my favorite band. Favorite of all time.
Tool is by far my favorite band!
For me they can touch so many genres of music in just one song!!!
Love, love Tool and anything Maynard has his hand on. 😅
Adam Jones the guitarist worked as a Hollywood effects guy including Jurassic Park in Tools infancy
Really need to watch the Danny video doing godly drumming. Tool and Rush have had the best drummers ever.
Tool is AWESOME!!
I'm so glad you chose this one as the first Tool video to watch. It's the first thing I saw of theirs myself as well and I always thought it was amaze balls
When the chorus comes a second time it always gives me goosebumps.
The lyrics are a pretty accurate description of an addict. “I will only complicate you. Trust in me and fall as well…I will work to elevate you. Just enough to bring you down.”
This is the first metal style song/video that I as an addict saw what it is. Scared me straight. Great reaction y'all.
Glad you finally got around to Tool, their videos are so good/Strange
Undertow is a great album. "Prison Sex" is a powerful song, too, and I think it rocks harder.
I remember when I heard this as a kid, Tool blew my mind, they still do, my family said don't listen to that stuff it will corrupt you or rot your brain, it did the opposite helped me get to 34 so far, suffered with ADHD I was weird school sucked, Tool was weirder than me I was just shy quiet.
Alexis is so beautiful… Thank you two so much for doing Tool!
Hey guys, love the channel! As a lifelong Tool fan I have to say it's hard to be introduced to Tool watching one of their videos, the visuals while stylistic and thought provoking detract from the mastery of the 4 members of the band. Sober 'Live' would have been a better entry point IMO. Please do more tool! Perhaps 46 and 2 and The Pot next...the rabbit hole goes deep with them, the journey has to include Lateralus and/or Pneuma/Pneuma Drum Cam to really highlight the brilliant musicianship.
Prog-jazz-goove-funk metal.
Maynard is a different kind of person. Amazing energy, live. His charisma is through the roof... but it's a really unusual charisma. You'll see. Some people try to say it's just part of his stage persona, but I'm convinced it's just who and how he is.
When I was a kid I had reoccur ing dreams that I had a special chair that floated. When this video came out, I was stunned by him floating in a chair!
Probably one of the best known uses of claymation was probably Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer. For bizarre claymation you can’t go far wrong with Frank Zappa!
The Quay Brothers did the stop motion for Sledgehammer, the claymation was the guys who did Wallace and Gromit.
This live one is epic. Shows his power and focus.
a good claymation video to check out is Green Jellÿ: Three Little Pigs
Fun Fact: Maynard was in that band also.
@kaidenorgana5151 Danny too, it's where they met.
Tool is great live. I've seen them twice. Very loud concert
Tool songs Schism, 46&2, the grudge, Pneuma Danny Carey Drum video by Vic Firth, Descending, right in two, the pot
You picked the right one to start with
"10,000 Days/Wings for Marie" are the most emotional song(s) by Tool, especially if you know the history of Maynard and his mom. It's hard not to cry knowing those songs were written to/about his mom after she died.
Tool is one of those bands that I like each succesive album more than the last one. I was in the military when Undertow came out (this album). I was, and still am kinda 'meh' on it. I absolutely love Fear Innoculum though.
I agree. Some bands peak early and others evolve to higher levels, Tool definitely got better with age.
What a tool guys!!!
Every time I hear this version of Sober I miss the 4 track demo more and more. I still have the cassette. No boombox to play it on, but still have it. Definitely do Sober live. Maynard is phenomenal live.
there is a 1992 live version of sober.......i strongly recommend you look it up on youtube it will blow your head off talk about a musical moment best vocal live performance ive seen
Glad you are reacting to this.
EVERY reaction channel reacts to the live '93 video.
EVERY channels talks about Maynard and his posture onstage. They click "pause", contemplate life for 15 seconds, then admire his movements.
The same reaction over and over.
You guys did good. Instead of that live video, maybe react to the uncensored studio mix, which contains the true power of the lyrics and music.
For no reason at all, Ive been singing this song the past week. Now y'all listening to it. Wow
So happy you are headed down this rabbit hole. Ignore the crazies, most of the Tool Army is not absurd, just the loudest.
This song pulls your heart out of your chest and shows it to you before you die
Would love to see a reaction to Ænema. By far my favorite track from Tool.
Just realized the shaking arm and hand is from the alcoholic shake's while watching it with you , Great Reaction
Best band of the mid to late 90s.
The live video is so much better
Definitely more Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer😊
You have to do the live version!
Whoohooo... TOOL!!! I'm going to see Maynards other two bands on his Birthday in Houston next month. A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. I Drove all over to see Tool 3 times on the last tour lol Kind of a big TOOL fan... The meaning behind some of the songs may interest Alexis if you get into the lyrics. Hard to do sometimes with tool considering how they try to throw everyone off. Some of my favorites would be Prison Sex, Parabola, The Pot, Lateralus, Right in Two...
Should react to the Live version. Better than the official video in my opinion!
I can see the similarity of stop-motion style, being inspired or taking visual queues doesn't amount to plagiarism, though. Just ask any guitar player, ever ---including Cobain. Derivative, sure, plagiarized, I don't think so. For such a creative person, Cobain had a really closed-minded snide rigid opinion side to him.
Should meet my old roommates other friends. Just found it best not to argue with them, just get the popcorn :)
I highly recommend Tools The Grudge.
Now for Stinkfist!
Being sober for a while, this song hits hard
Watch the live version
I don't know why, but bands like Tool, Rush, Pink Floyd and early Genesis (just to name a few), I always think they're kind of hit or miss. You like them or you don't. That doesn't mean they're bad, quite the opposite. If they were bad, they wouldn't be so successful as they are. I take them as an acquired taste, it just takes a bit of time to fully enjoy their music.
Once again, Alexis is hitting the nail in the head with her wit. 😂 God, I love when she does it.
How about a reaction to Bring the Noise?
Their videos are so bizarre but great music.
Alexis might like Gavin Rossdale and everything remains the same
You should check out the Pneuma video isolating Danny Carey on the drums.
Just do 'The Pot' official audio and she'll be much more in their groove!
DO THE DRUM CAM! DO THE DRUM CAM!
Its funny that Cobain would call others our for plagiarism considering just how heavily he was "influenced" by other bands.
🤘🏻🌀
Tool smacked the ignorance out of me
Tool is usually considered Progressive Metal. In the future I would recommend doing lyric videos for the 1st listen of a Tool song. (unless it's the Pneuma drum cam video). Their videos are very weird and interesting, but very distracting.
Need some lita ford and ozzy doing close my eyes forever. Alexis may enjoy lita ford the queen of hard rock
You have to do the 46 & 2 cover by O’keefe music foundation.
Alexis was being very punny in this video 😂.
Corrosion of Conformity
Albatross
the pot by tool is a must
1st minutes. Adam Jones worked on blockbusters. Not the defunct movie store
I've heard people call Tool a lot of things, but I think this is the first time I heard anyone calling them industrial. As someone who loves both Tool and industrial can't say I agree, as apart from "Die Eier Von Satan", Tool's music doesn't really have any industrial elements.
How about doing some Accept
I wouldn't call Tool alternative rock.
Tool are to me, Metal.
They were dark, the songs are brooding, tense, heavy, dramatic and holy drumsticks batman, Danny Carrey is possibly the only drummer I can't air drum to. He's just so good.
Fun Reaction.
Bad Brains
I think the live version of this song is much better
I actually think the live version is so much better.
It might be an unpopular opinion, but there is a live recording of Staind covering this song. As as a big tool fan, I think Staind did it better.
The only thing I don’t like about this video is that it’s censored.
Only one of two videos that Tool appears in.
Official video was a mistake
Going from MSG to Tool huh. Weird that your friend had an issue with the video. Adam Jones created the characters. He used to do special effects in Hollywood. They didn't rip anyone off. If you go down the Tool road, just be prepared. We(Tool fans) are insufferable. If you don't acknowledge how everything they do is great, we get very annoying.
Insufferable I can deal with...that's why UA-cam has block function 😁🤘 It's all good, I like Tool a lot since they came out so we should be good :)
@flickeringboxofficial I do enjoy your reactions, The reaction to Black by Pearl Jam was great. I'm just warning you about the Tool Army. Evidently, we think they hold all the secrets to the answers of life. At the end of the day, they just make great music. Spiral out...keep gping.
Welcome to the spiral...
This is one of the most popular Tool songs. If I hear a Tool song, even if I don't know it the song, I know it's Tool
Tool guitarist Adam Jones explained in an interview with Guitar School: "The song and video are based on a guy we know who is at his artistic best when he's loaded. A lot of people give him s--t for that. I don't tell people to do or not do drugs. You can do what you want, but you have to take responsibility for what happens. If you become addicted and a junkie, well, that's your fault."
Alexis is beautiful got the pregnancy glow
Watch lyric videos
Sometimes, and sometimes not. Just all depends
Rabbit hole 🕳
Not a fan of the video BUT the song is fire
Kurt Cobain: ‘Did you see the tool video that plagiarized the brothers quay animation style? Jeez! The nerve!’
Also Kurt Cobain: only even known of because he plagiarized the Pixies MUSIC style.
You know, if that’s going to be the standard.
All music has the DNA of someone else before them. I never argued with my roommate or his friends, no need.
@@flickeringboxofficial yes. That’s true of most modern art. It’s how the whole thing works. Everyone’s influenced by someone.
Tool will triple your subs.
We don't do things specifically for subs or views but with that being said, Tool gained us 29 subs. We have 56k subs so they were about 110,000 subs short of tripling our numbers for us. As the great Bob Uecker once said: "Juuuuust a bit outside" 😂🤣🤘😁
U should never do an official video from Tool
Tool and nirvana are noithing alike nor sound alike, where the hell did that come from?? Odd comparison
It's a girl isn't it ?
And don’t watch official videos, they have nothing to do with the songs They just like messing with you
I wanted to show her this video, I liked it.
@@flickeringboxofficial Personally, on this one, I think the live version is so much better as it captures the raw emotion and sometimes disturbing persona of MJK
The clean version 👎🏼
