Mark my words: The moment this game receives a UI revamp will be the moment cliffs will become the IL2 main game for the next few years.

They need to significantly overhaul the graphics. This looks extremely dated, i cannot even tell which of the two presented "VFX" are the new one and which the old. Both look old and unconvincing. As harsh as it sounds, but i always have to think of a review of this game couple of years back where it was said that sadly, with all the efforts put into this, they still "polished a turd". It is indeed a shame because the flight sim world does need a new, fresh and competitive platform. DCS is decent but in terms of WW2 content still limited. Great Battles has inferior flight model, low fidelity aircraft and the limitation of the engine, "no four-engine bomber", is ridiculous given the fact that the entire air war in the west from 1942 onwards, was about four-engine bombers trying to hit strategic targets in Germany. They add all the high flying fighters, the dedicated bomber killing FW190 with additional cockpit armour, but no bombers to utilize them against except A-20 or B-25. CLoD needs to replace the horrible UI into something that doesn't look like its from 1995 and fresh graphics / lighting.
@KBKriechbaum having flown lots of Clod visual update beta. I can tell you the ground looks miles miles better than IL2. Which has such terrible ground graphics its almost abstract. Yes it's a house. You can tell it's a house. But it looks like a monopoly house. Trees looks treeish enough to tell it it is trees. But they don't look like real trees. It's one of the many reasons I very rarely fly IL2 now. In vr it just pulls me out of the immersion.
In CloD the ground looks like actual ground be it at 20 000 feet or 50 feet. I find it very enjoyable to do hedge jumping in the tiger Moth. The ground has proper 3d undulating ground, small hills, small valleys. Etc. While in Il2 it all seems flat even when it not.
And clod buildings look like actual buildings. It's not anywhere close to DCS, but DCS is in a different league.

I prefer CLOD any day.

Bought CLOD on launch day way back when, what a disaster it was.
Simply amazing work fixing the game keep it up, can't wait for all these features and the next DLC!
The most impressive thing to me about TF is the fact that it still exists, definitely a labor of love. The Mediterranean theatre so important both to World History and the liveries of CLoD. Be glad when VR can be enjoyed in SP, only wish the many friends who have passed since the advent of CLoD could see your devotion. Best ~S~

Hope it will be a VR mode with proper VR Controller support and not require us to use mouse and keyboard or other desktop controlls. Would be nice to have an alternative to VTOL VR which isnt focusedon modern air fighting.

The new landscape looks effing awful..It's cartoon....I'm well gutted...Had this from day one and only now able to run the landscape on max...Can't believe they're dumbing it down...GUTTED!
I'd RATHER play IL2-COD in VR by Team Fusion than BoS. No Jk! You all have kept CoD alive and well. I only played it because you fixed it. VR is what I am waiting for. Great to see the Britain map getting an overhaul plus the new DLC, clouds and vr support. Good work. Now the show stoppers. The engine sounds are absolutely rubbish. Even the modded IL2 1946 had better sounds. The flight models are so un-sensitive and numb you can barely stall anything. Both of these ruin the game for me and many core simmers. Please Buzzsaw, fix what's been broken for a decade or more. This game engine still has some of the best features and potential to date. Combat pilot will be here in a year or two. Don't miss the boat.
VR was announced in 2020 as to be implemented in 2021. It's 2024 now, so maybe it's time to release, what do you think? Kind of brings more value than new planes and textures, as you can't seriously compete in flight sims without VR support nowadays.
Maybe if it's not out it's maybe it's not ready don't you think ? I read somewhere that there was still bugs and crashes with VR. So let's be patient. Let's also not forget that Team Fusion started as a mod without the source code, so they have to create their own tools for that.
@@SnaxDesAvions If something is that far away from release you don't announce it 5 years in advance and don't get beta testers, don't you think? There is no excuse for this BS, no matter how small team you have. And as a cherry on top absolute zero communication and explanation on why actually there is no delivery on promise. It's like it never happened. Promising more when you haven't delivered on your 4 year old promises is simply disrespectful, no matter whether you are a modder or a game developer. So, you reap what you sow, it's actually amazing that you even try to defend this approach. Look at BMS team, for example - they somehow manage to not do a crap like that even though they earn absolute zero in sales.
Apparently the team is big enough to make assets in bulk (or at least promise them in 2024) but not big enough to bring long waited critical gameplay improvements.

Why would I care about other work if at certain point it is pretty much impossible to simfly anyway unless it is in VR? I've tried this both with CloD and MSFS, and it is just not possible unfortunately, no matter how much I like the setting or the graphics. It's like watching YT video instead of actually playing. I've bought CloD on the promises of VR, and of course I feel cheated. Luckily I've played MSFS through gamepass, so I didn't loose anything.
TF obviously struggles with getting more people in, and at the same time they already have the biggest theater and the most planes for WW2 era. So, what do they do to correct that? Right, more planes and textures. When the reality is that there is no VR flight sim right now on the market which can replicate big scale battles of WW2. So, they have all the chances to take that niche and make it a key selling point in their advertisement and instead of doing that they spend resources on more planes and textures. Hope you see through my attitude, though this all definitely pisses me off. If I didn't care about this game I'd not write all this, but I really do.
As a side note, don't you get tired seeing this crap in the gaming industry overall? When actual gameplay and progress gets shredded in favor of new models and maps every single time? I get it when it happens with big companies with investors behind pushing for rapid sales and shiny posters, but here the sales are miniscule anyway thus giving opportunity to actually improve. Take VTOL VR which sold >200 000 copies (single dev BTW, a former modder of KSP) and is being played by 10 times more people than CloD daily, while being a VR-only game. We are seeing 23 people (!) playing CloD on average daily (steam stats), so we are making new planes and maps for what, those 23 people? This all just doesn't make any sense to me.

Looks good. Lol I have this game. VR was told how many years ago? Hope then Hope more. Wait then Wait more.
When VR gets added I'll reinstall this and have another go. Wouldn't mind some sort of dynamic campaign, though. Playing the same campaigns over doesn't sound very exciting.
Any updates on status of VR? Can't play it without VR.
Might consider this if it gets VR. Until then, I'll stick with DCS.

The updates look fantastic. I need a GPU and monitor for 4K now. Also, great to see, in the VR segment, you're showing a Ju-88 being flown as a fighter, which it was in North Africa. Top stuff!
When vr will be released? I bought it and dlc becuase it was said two years ago only peopke with dlc would have the vr option.

I love how people post about the horrific UI and it turns into a conversation about VR...misplaced priorities. Fixing the UI in this game would drag it into the present so fast.
I have had two generation of VR headsets. But they are still waiting for their IL-2 experience

I love this game! Even if the graphics are now dated compared to DCS. The issue I have had with this game since day 1 is the fact that it would never save my flight stick settings no matter what I did so I unfortunately gave up on it.
I’m surprised that they are going to keep pushing it further. It seemed more dead than coming back to life.

I was going to play CLOD the other day after not playing for a bit and of course all my joystick settings were erased. I have 8 backups of the settings and not one would load, even have a readme to make sure I always plug my joystick into the same usb port. I started, again, mapping the joystick and then said "to hell with this" and installed IL2 '46 VP MOD and everything worked 100%. Why can new maps, aircraft etc be created, but fixing 'forgetting' joystick as soon as you shut down the game be beyond the modders/designers?
Good to hear I'm not alone. I maped around 30 keys to my Thrustmaster Warthog via the Thrustmaster Software. All my keybindings in CLOD are gone, not one of my backups worked. Swichted to BoX then.
It is frustrating isn't it, I am like CLOD so much but each time I decide to play it always makes we wonder "is it going to work today?" I have BoX too but switched to '46 to play pacific.
I know exactly what you mean. Was a CloD hardcore fan 2016 - 2019 and member of the JG4, the largest German speaking "clan" so to say. The whole Geschwader moved to BoX. The cockpits and damage model of CloD are still unmatched.@@weasel6535

Thanks for the update! CloDB used to be my go-to game, but that changed to Il2-2 BoS after I got the VR headset. Am looking forward to the VR to get back into this game instead. Great work!

Nice but wonder why didn't 1C put the team to work on one or more DLC for Great battles instead of updating the previous IL-2?
The TFS team work independently. They dont work on the Great Battles series, never have, and have no knowledge of how to develop that game. They are enthusiasts of Cliffs of Dover. They are not employed by 1C, and were not employed by them even when the rights to the CoD series belonged to 1C. Now though Tencent and Fulcrum publishing own those rights. So TFS and Cliffs of Dover are no longer connected directly to 1C.

They didn't appear until 1943 which is outside of the current game timeframe which goes up to 1942.
I need to get back in. Better ai than forgotten battles I seem to remember. Sick of its endless circle fights.
The AI is far superior to IL2 or DCS.

can someone explain me the difference between Il-2 sturmovik battle of stalingrad (and all the consecutive releases) and Il-2 cliffs of dover?
There are 2 different games with different game engines. They are not compatible. There is the Great Battles series ( Battle of ... Stalingrad, Kuban, etc.). The second series is based on Oleg Maddox's Cliffs of Dover ( CoD Blitz and Desert Wings Tobruk).

UI Overhaul is a must. Campaign modes & what I really love in IL2 BoX is the fact that you can customize your equipment, I love the personal little touches.
