"age is just a number" is the worst phrase. "Speed is just a number, officer". "I'm gonna bake this at 500 because temperature is just a number". It's a number that equals the amount of years you've been alive, which is important in so many contexts. Sick of hearing that!

The "age is just a number" idea suffers from the same problem that all absolute statements do. Its an oversimplification and generalization. If you pay attention people do that a LOT in day to day life, its really depressing, especially in this context because its not exactly a very nuanced scenario...

The second story is wild. I think one of the biggest problems is that the OP didn’t consent to dating/sleeping with an 18-year-old. Not only did she lie to him about her age, she did it to trick him into doing things he otherwise wouldn’t have. Who would want to raise a kid with someone like that? Shit like that makes me mad.
I do agree that the pregnancy part is partially his responsibility, but it probably wouldn’t have happened in the first place had she been honest. He couldn’t give informed consent because he wasn’t informed.

Right? There's a way to say "lets see what happened but if it is what it seems like it's horrific." That husband holds great resentment towards his "nagging" wife. He threw that bag because he hated that once again his wife tells him to do chores and he's sick of hearing it. If a remark like that makes him throw stuff, he'll keep building resentment and explode in the future.
Husbands like that don't decide to leave. They only want their current wife to do what they're supposed to. If they don't, increasingly worse things happen. I'm glad OP decided to follow through this time. I hope his tricks won't work to get her back and she truly moves on. Living somewhere else will make her notice just how much less work she has evvery day and how easy it is to breathe at home. Very scary situation. That’s because people think intelligence means having knowledge, or only pattern recognition. The IQ tests are more than just your pattern recognition, they also tests your working memory, logical thinking, and retelling of information. When I did mine, I did more tasks than just matching a bunch of figures with each other. The most memorable test I had was that they wanted me to repeat numbers the evaluator said in different ways. So they would say 6 numbers and then tell me to retell them in opposite order, rank them from highest to lowest etc. These sort of tests also require you to be at your physical and mentally best, because if you’re not that will affect your results. Because at the end of the day, the IQ measures someone’s ability to gain, process, retain and retell information and knowledge and how fast they can do it. A person with high IQ will have an easier time doing that, but that doesn’t mean someone who has average or even under average can’t. It’s just somewhat easier for the person with high IQ.

I would never recommend getting an IQ test because it will likely only ever make one feel insecure and limited, stopping them from pursuing things because they think they aresnt smart enough to. I would also feel betrayed if I found out that my partner was much younger than they said they were. 27 and 22 is already a pretty big age gap in you take into consideration how young the younger person in the relationship is, and where they are mentally; so to find out that a 5 year age gap actually was a 9 year age gap would be rough. An 18 year old, although a legal adult, is still basically a child, and I (as a 24 year old) would not be comfortable dating someone who just graduated high school (ever more so if I was 27). I would feel nauseous from the thought that I was attracted to someone so much younger than I am, because although she was the one who lied, I would feel like I was unintentionally predatory towards her. It's likely he feels similar since he even states that he would've been hesitant to get involved with her in the first place if he knew her actual age. Also, do we know if she's been 18 the entire time they dated, because if she hadn't turned 18 yet by the time they started dating, she, legally speaking, wouldn't have been able to give consent in the beginning of their relationship, which just brings up a bunch of other issues. On top of that: a relationship built on a lie isn't a stable relationship. Do we know if she's been lying about other things too? I don't doubt that the baby is his, but if she's been lying about her age it's likely she's been lying about other things; so now his irresponsible actions (of getting her pregnant) has tied him, for life (even if they don't actually stay together) to someone he can't even be sure he knows.

IQ of 70 is not "needing somebody around". Under 85 is considered intellectual disabilities, if I remember correctly 70-85 is mild, 55-70 is moderate, under 55 is severe. Severe is usually needing somebody around, moderate is typically needing an assistant occasionally and mild is typically "can live by themselves, but might need occasional help, or no help at all". Also people with mild often have jobs, albeit simple. So it's a range, and also specific from case to case, but these are general guidelines

Things IQ testing is affected by: language barriers and assimilation to the local culture, mood, sleep, whether you have studied or not, neurodivergence, and breakfast. They tested it. If you don't have breakfast, your IQ is lower. IQ measures... something, but you can really get numbers out of anywhere if you want to. I could divide the number of cats in Amsterdam by the distance to the moon, but that doesn't make the cat/moon quotient important (it's an exaggerated and silly example to make a point). The history of IQ testing started as a helpful tool for elementary teachers, but then got picked up by movements such as Jim Crow, eugenics, and fascism for far less wholesome purpose. The idea of general intelligence as it is today is very shaky on the science.

I think both you and @sarahberkner don't understand the real issue here. I also don't think that 6 years of a difference are a big deal and he is definitely not obligated to break up with her because of the age difference. As long as both of them are adults, it doesn't matter. The issue here is not that she is 18, the issue here is that he found out that the entire relationship was founded on a lie. He simply can't trust anything she says ever again, because instead of owning up to her mistake, her excuse was just "Well I thought you wouldn't hook with me if I didn't lie".
So if he doesn't break up with her he'll basically never be able to tell if she is telling the truth or just lieing to get what she wants. And THAT is a huge red flag regardless of age.

Regardless of how mature she is now, she is not at the same maturity that he is, and he is clearly uncomfortable with the implications of being close to his thirties and dating someone who still classifies as a teenager that just recently became a legal adult

Wisdom is knowledge, the amount of information you know and can use, intelligence is how well you can absorb and connect new information. That's why IQ tests are a lot of pattern recognition related things, they're not testing how much you know, but your ability to acquire new information, recognize patterns, and integrate it into what you know. Building a shelf and starting a fire take having been taught, it takes wisdom and knowledge, but recognizing patterns takes intelligence.

Omega 3 supplements/fish oil makes you burp and it tastes and smells baaad, so take it right along your meals if you do!! If you try eating something after you're already burping fish oil, it's only gonna mix the taste in your mouth and you'll regret it!

IQ tests are a mostly about memory and recognizing patterns. I got tested (as part of a seizure study, it was meant to increase stress and maybe induce a seizure) and I got 126. That was in my mid 20's. I now have so many years of seizures and neuro issues that I'm positive that if I took the test today (I'm 33) I would get less than 100. It's not really about intelligence, it's about test taking skills. I probably only did well because during the study they deprive you of sleep for 48 hours at a time, so I didn't think hard about a single answer and just did gut decisions. I think our brains recognize patterns better than we do when we focus on it.

Why is everyone so hung up on the pregnancy part?
Not once did he say he wasn't going to be a father or that he didn't want a child, he mentioned it because the pregnancy means he cannot just cut ties with her which implies he isn't planning on abandoning the child.
I can 100% see why he would be okay with having a child with a 22 year old and not a 18 year old, let alone one that lied to him.

Standard IQ tests are a very old metrics (I believe from the 50s) and measure mostly language/math skills, i.e. stuff you need for school. There's more recent models which have 7 types of intelligence, including social, emotional, physical, musical etc. There's also the concept of fluid intelligence which ties into it. Basically that some intelligence is crystallised (unchangeable) and some is fluid (can be used for whatever purpose you use it for, or skill you're building). Think of it as potential. For example, if you start learning a new language, you're using that fluid intelligence, or you can decide to use for let's say learning how to ski. It's really fascinating, I recommend checking it out. (Worked as a speech and language therapist and dealt with IQ tests all the time, particularly for kids with various syndromes, intellectual disabilities etc.)
TLDR: intelligence is a profile of multiple skills and you get better at the ones in which you invest time developing.

Everybody, get this straight. You should NEVER, and I mean NEVER, have to ‘parent’ your SO. He or she should KNOW to respect you. If he/she doesn’t ALREADY treat you right, they have bad parents. Remember, marriage not only ties you to that person, but also ties you to the family. If your man (or woman) treats you right, he/she was raised right.

I'm not sure I agree with the last part... some of the most beautiful people I know come from broken households. Ofcourse there are people who grew up to be just as terrible as their parents. But it's a common trauma response to become extra caring in the hope it fixes things. I also know some serious a-holes who had great parents but are just bad people. There are so many people that belt out slurs, or hurtful remarks, or intense vitriol during arguments. And there's no way you can convince me that those weren't thoughts you had, previously. Being angry and "in the moment" is a lot like being drunk in some cases; your inhibitions are lowered. Even if it's "I was hurt/stressed/whatever and wanted to hurt you" they had that response *ready* , which is very telling.

Pro tip: Recent studies have found that fish oil is not good for everyone to take. For many years, physicians recommended fish oil for folks with high cholesterol and other heart disease risks due to its apparent protective qualities. However, recently fish oil supplementation has actually been linked to an increased risk for atrial fibrillation in folks who are already at risk for that (diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol). The change in heart rhythm can trigger a heart attack or stroke and is definitely a concern, which is why now doctors have changed their recommendation for people with these conditions. Based on that info, you should probably just stick to eating a few servings of healthy fish per week without taking any other omega 3 supplements.
