Special thanks to Rain World Community for being amazing.
Also, shoutout to the creators of the mods KeepThatAwayFromMe (topicular) and WarpMod (LeeMoriya). Without these, it would have taken... a lot longer to get clean footage I wanted to use to make this video.

#RainWorld #RainWorldDownpour #Artificer - Розваги
For me, I see it as that Artificer was unable to let go of her children. It wasn't wrath that held her back, after all, she is seeking enlightenment rather than revenge. Instead, it was the one thing she couldn't get back, a primal urge that had no way to be satisfied, being a mother.
Also I will never not compliment someone on implementing a multitude of fitting Rain World tracks, plus the editing was phenomenal!
In the end, she relinquished her strong connection to them and let them freely swim away. She finally stopped hugging them and let them go. I wonder how they got there in the first place. Upon ascending, the monk also encounters the survivor, but is it really the survivor or is it just an entity that tests the monk's ability to let go? Maybe the kids are just a test to see if the artificer can let go of her own attachment as well? Questions and theories abound, and they can all be right or wrong. Also, given the limited and ambiguous information we have, there are a lot of possible outcomes. We don't know whether we'll ever figure out which assumptions are right or wrong.
I've personally come to see it as more what steam's achivement implies, that she finds closure in her position (primarily by the normal end of her campaign). She proves she's stronger than even the greatest scavenger, their chieftan, that she's stronger than anything that comes at her. And she's happy with it, knowing that every rotten scavenger beast who took her children away rightfilly should be prey to her.
I find it most likely, she loses the desire to ever leave her position atop the cycle, and her karma reflects it.
I've thought about it more and I realized the closure isn't JUST in killing scavengers - it's being a predator, the apex predator, dominant above all else. Her character description states she's "keen to move up in the food chain", and given her insanely powerful abilities (she FEELS like playing a predator) it's not a surprise she would do that. She sees herself above all things that defy her will, and has no fear to violently punish things that would - like the scavengers, lawlessly murdering her own children. The end goal that brought her closure wasn't necessarily vengeance toward the scavengers themselves, but rather to the cruel world she seeks to retribute the pains of, by breaking it between her own teeth and standing atop it, above all the cruelty it torments her with, that it dared bring upon her children.
It was just a rather humorous fate that this highest point was in fact a throne sat upon by a scavenger. Once she's slain it, it is her alone in that dome, atop five pebbles and towering over the lands. She's conquered the "rain world" and that is what brought her closure, and what connected her so wholly to the mortal plane.
I literally almost cried at the end. I always took it to mean there was no hope for Artificer, that no matter what she tried she would never succeed and be reunited with her children. But you gave me hope that in some timeline somewhere, things are different.
This ending is actually possible to get in game
@@Icedonot Well, kind of. You have to cheat in order to bypass the Guardians, because Artificer’s max karma is 9. Additionally, she only gets to see her children for a split second before painfully fading away, again due to not having 10 karma and therefore not being able to truly ascend.
@@inkfon Thanks, I only realized it was possible in vanilla recently!!
Please let this be true. I'm usually emotionally distant, but Artificer's story is the first to make me want to weep one last time.
The issue about having just "some timeline" is that you need all timelines to want to leave. If ANYTHING binds you to the world, some 'you' will want to stay, not quite here, not quite gone.
I personally interpret it as arti still holding some grudge towards the scavs deep down, but as she sees her children, one last time, shes able to let go of her hatred, and finnaly gain the last symbol of karma, allowing her to ascend.
After all, the void fluid is something like acid, making you dissapear forever, and as we can see, thats exactly what happened.
I suspect the two children later grow up to become rivulet and Saint.
The blue one having reincarnated to survive its drowning.
The green one finding immortality and sacrificing its way out of the cycle to ensure a way out for its mother.
THE LORE
GUYS THE LORE
THE LOOOOOOOORE
While I love this theory, it probably isn't true, considering how far in the timeline rivulet and saint are compared to artificer
That's actually a really great theory. I've always wondered what would happen if Saint tried to ascend Artificer, if it could force her into max karma as it probably does to work on anything else.
@@moronribbons5774 not very sainty tbh.. which is why saint ends as it does
wait I thought the green one was the one that drowned, not the blue one? unless im mistaken
I have just now noticed that artificer has four fingers on each instead of the usual three that slugcats are supposed to have 7:09
I never realised people thought of artificer this way, I always just thought she lost her children and became an absolute badass
I should really dig more into the lore
I legitimately think the Metropolis ending is the better one for Artificer. Sure, she is giving in to her anger, but she is still alive, giving her effectively limitless time to come to peace before ascending. If she abandons her quest and goes to ascend immediately she is still bound by her rage and will presumably be stuck as an echo without hope of redemption or true ascension.
Underappreciated perspective
But if she kills the scav king, isn't she permanently locked at Karma 1 forever? So she's effectively just as locked out of ascension as if she had become an echo.
@@archdruidbookwalter951 That is the implication, true. In a way this is my headcanon because this never made much sense to me. From what we know of ascension, it seems that what matters is your current mental state and your attachments at time of ascension, not your actions. Sure, artificer would be "giving in" to violence, but it doesn't mean she will be bound to violence for eternity. The way it is right now it kind of makes it seem like the act of killing the scav king prevents her from ascending at all. The way I understood it, the echoes were kept from ascension due to their attachments to material things when they tried to ascend, not because they did things during their lives that were motivated by worldly wants.
@pizza7495 killing him just means she couldn't let go of revenge
It does make sense for me to think that to leave anger behind she must at least achieve her highest impossible goal, and then realize afterwards that she can’t even keep the ashes. The scavengers having lost so much more at this point, would not longer fight her but flee, would Arti find peace knowing that the cycle of her pain is made to keep repeating by her hand?
If only one more echo could have helped her, but I suppose that maybe, she will become that echo she needed and others may need, to heed the cost of wrath.
WHAT THE HECK HOW ARE YOU THIS UNDERATED THIS VIDEO WAS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE
That is indeed very cool.
REAL?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?
I think its just the fact that rainworld is way underappreciated for how good of a game it is, since ive seen plenty rainworld youtubers that have hardly above 1-10k views.
rain world is an absolutely incredible game and i really hope it will get the recognition it deserves one day@@WashingMachine.
finishing campaigns and then being able to watch videos about them
is like finishing a level and then unlocking community custom-made levels remaking the level
I never realized, would artificer have become an echo? She tried to ascend without max karma
I find that both endings are good and bad in their own weird way.. Take the chieftess ending. Artificer has worked tirelessly to avenge her children, killed by the greed of the scavengers. She takes out their chieftain, and claims title of queen of the scavengers. And yet, the final dream, when you hibernate for the last time suggests that Artificer regrets her actions. Was this truly the right course of action? Her final dream suggests that she doubts herself now. The walls of guilt slowly close in as she inches toward insanity, the cause for the near extinction for a similar, intelligent species now holding the crown of ruler of that same species.
But all in all, this was amazing! Could you do another one, like with hunter?
Maybe if she regrets it she can work towards ascension
@@Acefdiamonds sadly she cant, because after you kill the chieftain your karma gets locked to 1, regardless of how many echoes youve visited and how much karma you had before
This video is absolutely amazing! I hope it gets very popular, it looks like you spent a lot of time on it.
An approval of a guy who noticed you decided to give Arti a ray of hope at the end :)
This narration is so great! Can truly feel those emotions in your voice, telling a story that tugs at the heartstrings. You truly deserve more views
Also I find it weird that Artificer was the one to get stuck at Karma 1 through her genocide. You could as Survivor do the same, just absolutely destroy the Scav population and nothing happens. Only difference is their motivations. Artificer has one of vengance, and Survivor could do it just because. Who is more deserving of such punishment?
I'm not excusing Arti's actions, I just sometimes think about that fact
Honestly, in a sick way it does make sense though. The cycle of rebirth in rainworld lore is almost not about how moral a being is at all- it's simply about how attached they are to the world around them. In this world, a psychopath going on a bloody rampage for no reason whatsoever is almost more likely to escape the cycle of rebirth, because if you can't care about members of your own species, that's just one less thing tying you to existence.
That's what happens when game begins to rely on Budda garbage too much. You get ridiculous crap like Arti not having an actual good ending (after all, if she had tragic beginning, then why not just make her completely stuck in tragedy for the rest of her existence? Surely it's not like the player would want Scavengers to get their comeuppance for being greedy assholes while getting Arti to reunite with her children?) and then it begins to look like a massacre of Scavengers is much better than trying to bother ascending.
@@hyperfox0934that makes a lot of sense
@@hyperfox0934 I admit that does make more sense, I should've remembered what the Echos were saying-
We could make up a different scenario for Survivor (the player) then: Let's say it's alike Arti's story. He finds a pup, takes care of it and that pup gets killed by a Scav. The player then goes on a rampage killing every Scav they see to avange them
From a gameplay point ofc nothing would happen, but I think more in a lore standpoint if something could happen?
@@NekoEchoflower I'd agree. From a lore standpoint, it makes more since for hunter to start dropping karma points. I don't think they'd nessasary get locked at lowest, because I think the reason that's happened to arti is because she's quite frankly got PTSD. It's mentally impossible for her to move on, she can't stop dreaming about it every night for a reason. If there were some situation where hunter developed PTSD from like,, losing someone really important, then Yeah, id say lore wise they're probably gonna end up in the same bucket. In a weird way I almost wonder if that's really a bad thing though, the ancient ones were obsessed with what's basically enlightenment, but in reality it's not like there's a time limit on it, and even if you get locked off the path like that in one life, that doesn't prevent you from restarting in the next, and by restarting in the next with like,, a fresh start, you're not like bringing the PTSD with you into nirvana forever. 😅 Rain world definitely never implies a nirvana like system btw, it actually does the opposite and implies you just kinda become one with every other living thing, but still, I'd rather not be haunted by my children's death for the rest of eternity. That's kinda why I like this video, it's got that concept down pat in my opinion and really the good resolution for this life is that trauma wound being cleaned and bandaged up before her rebirth while she still remembers what it actually is. I really like it. ^v^
OHMYGOSH. THIS WAS AMAZING. It had the feel of a poem that someone like Edgar Allan Poe would make, you’re very creative with your wording and metaphors!!
Spoils!
As someone who got almost all of the pearls for Artificer, then ascended...this is, such a good track of the emotional journey-
You deserve, SO many more views-
This sparked an inordinate amount of joy within me. Thank you!
I never finished artificer as 'intended'
I only played her once and after a couple thousand deaths and no scavenger kills, I ascended. I didn't get any achivement to for not killing - but knowing that I made her find peace makes me feel better.
Wow! This was an amazing video! It's quite unbelievable that you are this underrated.
Your narration is so epic, so emotional, so genuine, i just got back into the rainworld fandom and i wasn't expecting this masterpiece to be the first thing i see after months of being away from the community
