Failure really is one of the most immensely underrated bands imaginable. How they don't have like a Soundgarden or Alice in Chains' sized audience blows my mind.
Eh I think it's because most people never get high enough to appreciate them. And discover how great they are. Like if you listen to Tool you probably get high but if you listen to Failure you've tripped your face off at least once or twice.

Really makes a lot of sense APC covering The Nurse... and later hiring the guy into the band. This is totally a sonic blueprint for their entire sound.
I love the eerie sound this band has. Anytime I hear a eerie/spooky sound from a band they typically use some mode of harmonic minor, but Failure uses really clever and beautiful sounding voicings a in major keys. What a gem of a band.

Thanks, Rick. You mentioned Failure in a video a few weeks back and got me to start listening to them. I only wish I would've known about them sooner. They played a show in my state a few months ago.
It is kind of sad to see all other videos from this series having hundreds of thousands views and this barely one hundred thousand as of writing this comment. Come to think of it, it is relatively logical why Failure did not blow up in the 90s. They were somewhat different, excellent, but they lacked the star power. Jawbox is neat. I love Impossible Figure!
Greatest guitar "solo" of the 90s in that track.
Agreed! Remember that record, they covered (better) Cornflake Girl by Tori Amos? Jawbox was a huge indie influence!
Yes, yes & yes!
Jawbox is incredible. Mirrorful is another I’d like to see a whole episode about. Or Chinese Fork Tie
such a great band, cant believe that not only you know that band but that you are supporting them with this vid. total respect
Another...What makes this song great video by Rick Beato to demonstrate what makes Rick Beato Great. Love the break down, play along approach Rick. Thanks for sharing. Like SMASHED!
Agreed wholheartedly!
One of my favorite bands of all time. Thanks for doing this. Almost 25 years later and it's still great!
If anyone hasn't heard Greg Edwards' other band Autolux check them out!
Yeah! Autolux
Autolux rules and so does failure!!
Is that the same dude?!
indiejarm yes
And Ken's short-lived band Year of the Rabbit
YASSSS!! Thank you for doing this track, Rick. One of the best 90s melodic rock songs ever. Keep ‘em coming!
Wow.... never heard of them, pretty cool. Rick, you're enthusiasm is infectious, thanks for everything you do.
I love how your love for this song comes across here. I really love this song too.
Thx Rick for shining the spotlight on this brilliant, yet oft-forgotten band. But next time...PLEASE do The Nurse Who Loved Me!!! Never heard another song like it.
Best song on the album. Can’t not sing along with it every time I hear it.
And then a compare/contrast breakdown of the Failure vs Perfect Circle versions. I can't tell which I like more!
Maybe there is a reason for why they are forgotten bands.
I was actually surprised he didn't pick nurse who loved me
Love that song
@@transformer889 yeah, because most people only like music that sounds like everything else
Rick, I had no idea you did once of these for Failure till now. I LOVE this band. Thank you for doing this!!!
"The nurse who loved me" from this record is amazing.
Sang it to my infant son as a lullaby. Worked a hell of a lot better than that rock-a-by baby bullshit.
Dude you nailed it! Ive had this song stuck in my head for weeks, amd as a musician watching this video has the same satisfaction as scratching an itch!
Duuuude! This is your best yet. There is so much to talk about the 90's rock scene. Would love to hear you dig deep into some Unwound. Rumour has it they were rehearsing in the same place Nirvana were at one stage...
a much better band than nirvana too (I may be a little biased)
I love your videos man, they always make me want to play guitar again.
I’ve been playing guitar 25 years,
but I’ve only PLAYED guitar for about 10 years.
Your an inspiration man.
Woah nice song choice! I love Failure. Would not have expected this haha
Failure and HUM were my favorite 90's bands. Please do an episode on HUM!!!
I never in a million years would have expected you to cover a Failure song. What a pleasant surprise!
I'm almost 48 years old. Never heard this song! How did I miss this Post Grunge beauty?! I had to stop this , go back and watch and listen to a beautiful song and Jame Bond style video, and now come back to this video. Thank you so very much, Rick Beato.
Failure is definitely an underrated band. Another track from Fantastic Planet, "Dirty Blue Balloons", is my favourite track of theirs. A real rocker!
The thing about these musicians (including you Rick) is they bring the soul to the song. They do. And that's the most important thing.
What a great, unexpected pick for a WMTSG video! Great underrated band. You’re alright, Beato.
My favorite Band and Rick Beato together...Awesome!!!
I've never heard this band or song before. It's interesting to listen to new music
neither did I, but in all honesty it sounds like I've heard it a million times. the song sounds a lot like two or three way more famous songs of the era...
Same here and they don’t suck!
That guitar tone at 7:23 is SICK!
Fantastic Planet is one of the best records of all time, Ken is an absolute genius. Great episode!
How have I never heard of this band before seeing this!? This song is superb. Thanks for introducing me to an excellent band Rick :)
Failure is a relatively recent discovery for me, and I wish I had this in my life in the 90s. I listened to 'Forbidden Planet' so much I think I was trying to Butterfly Effect them into my psyche. Great stuff. Thanks, Rick!
Fantastic Planet
Yes! So happy you did this! If it was inspired by my comments a couple of weeks ago my smile will be even larger.
Thanks, Rick. You mentioned Failure in a video a few weeks back and got me to start listening to them.
I only wish I would've known about them sooner. They played a show in my state a few months ago.
There is so much music I missed this song /band.
I was in my jazz phase. Thanks Rick.
How the f%&co did I miss these guys?! I'm hooked!
This is the first time I heard about failure and now I'm a fan of the band. Thanks Rick for the introduction to the band and this song. Cheers.
This album was amazing. I saw failure open for Soul Coughing in ‘96
It is kind of sad to see all other videos from this series having hundreds of thousands views and this barely one hundred thousand as of writing this comment. Come to think of it, it is relatively logical why Failure did not blow up in the 90s. They were somewhat different, excellent, but they lacked the star power. Would have been interesting though, to see them really big.
Anyway, I appreciate very much that you picked this band to make a video about!
