All UA-cam channels should take notes on your “start to finish plus a follow up” included in every video. You never leave us hanging and it’s appreciated.
Pro tip. Use a drill with a bit that fits that nut in the center of the hand crank. Boom. Electric, speed controllable, pump. Lol. Also. Use heavy duty door slides for the tool box. Make it so you can slide it as close to the tank as possible for storage. Then pull it out to clear the crank handle.
Good tip on the bolt thread but I would use a standard nut rather than a locking nut just to avoid damaging the plastic lock. Does depend on how messy you are with cutting.
Was thinking about the air noise.. Then it occurred to me, if you just pumped gallons of fuel out of the tank, then air needs to flow into the tank to replace that volume. Maybe the sound was that air balancing the pressure in the tank? Really enjoying your videos, have learned a lot watching!
I bought a Husky box for my truck a while back & paid $100 for it. Best $100 I ever spent. I store all my tools in it, the box had a padlock latch on it already so that was a plus. I’ve got a tank I’ll probably put on my truck, but the L part of it is 8” tall & since my bed side is 1” lower than the new ones. I’ll probably be getting a bus to live in plus it’s my bio diesel processing tank, so I might never put it in my truck. I had a 50gal tank like this guy has, but had to sell it. I’m looking at others & the steel ones just keep getting bad reviews as an aux fuel tank to the truck, so I’ll have to just bite the bullet & just get an aluminum tank off FB.
I find it best not to slam the lid on the tool box but rather open the latch with the handle and gently close the lid. We have a transfer tank/toolbox combo on our truck and the latches are cheap and bend easily. All it takes is slamming the box 1x and the latching pin gets all bent out of shape. But if you close it like I described it doesn't have an issue.
I would put a steal cage between the tank and the cab of the truck. If you're in a wreck those screws pointing towards the passengers is deadly. Not sure of the weight of fuel but water is a little over 8 lbs per gallon and that's a lot of force towards the cab. Even if no one ever rides in the back seat can't be safe enough hauling extra fuel around in a vehicle.
The swivel fitting is more advanced so Obviously they always charge extra for a piece that should be included as the overall package, Be Aware that some of those hand pump seals can leak from the base of that crank handle assembly, If you ever notice that its dripping at the edge of the crank then the seal gets worn out. At my last job we had several pumps that had to be replaced over time, some had to have total replacements. ( not sure of the same brand or model of pump )
Ahhhh! My pump is leaking at the center point of the crank. What a pile of garbage. Diesel drips all over the place when I'm cranking away. It only pumped 3-4 tanks before it started leaking/dripping.
@@GCFD ( Other reply didnt take,YT is having issues w the comment section) Oh Really, Geez Glad to pass the unfortunate knowledge then, Yeah check the Manuf. schematics etc online if you have to & see if there is a kit for repair, Otherwise you may have to retro-fit w an electric after all, good luck w it.
You probably could Alan. But I'm only filling my small equipment so I wanted something that was slow! My big excavator holds a decent amount so I have to crank it.
@ alan bellerby The handle on most of them is a complete assembly with an inner seal that can go bad after time (as i have mentioned in my comment) So therefore no you cant just disassemble the handle itself without modding the end of it, which is not worth the hassle.
So what is the minimum price to get fuel? I was thinking about getting some for my truck to “not” use on the road after I put some oil in it to turn it brown not dyed.
Occasionally I have some fuel spill out. Typically I just go easy and keep up with how full the tank is getting. Sometimes I get carried away with cranking the pump....oops!
@@GCFD Bad Tip: You can't use an auto shutoff nozzle with a hand pump. :( You can buy a manual nozzle that will at least have a shut off so it doean't leak fuel all over the place.
Gate City Foundation Drainage, yeah. For those of us that are around all mechanical diesels they’ll run on my waste oil mix, so after you have everything setup it gets pretty cheap if you’ve got a constant supply of oil.
The reason I didn't go electric is because I couldn't find one with a low flow rate. I'm refueling small equipment (5-10 gal) and most of the pumps I found pump way too fast. So I crank.
You guys in the US have some seriously cheap fuel.. Guessing that that's diesel, that same quantity of fuel here in Portugal would cost~273USD.. It's just insane the cost right now..

Thank you Robert! I have taken that from some of my favorite channels like Andrew Camarata.

Great tip!
wow great point on the drill!!
I really like your explanations. The what and why of what you are doing.
I think it's OK. Proceeds to slam it 7 times. Sean you're a hoot.
I still need to adjust that latch 👍
Was waiting for him to pull out some schedule 40 when plumping that pump!
haha
Locknuts don't reliably lock after the first use. Use a regular nut for cutting the bolt.
Good tip!

Great video! Very nice pacing. It was enjoyable to watch.
Thanks for the support! I’m glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching.

Thank you! I think you have the air noise correct. It's the pressure balancing.
Nice setup. That’s what I want to do with a designated fuel truck
Do it!
That is a very nice upgrade. I hate those 5 gallon "spill" tanks!
I've been enjoying the transfer tank.
Looks great . Like the hand pump too.
Thanks! I'm now addicted to hand cranking that pump and filling up my equipment.

Nice point! I've thought of adding a headache rack to this little truck.
Better safe than sorry ,had a steal cage installed in work van bc I haul a water fed system and wheel hose poles....
I have the same toolbox and it seems flimsy but I haven't had any issues in 5 years. I use mine a lot too. I don't care about dents though

I don't know if you still use this transfer tank, but shouldn't it be additionally grounded to the unpainted part?
What did you do about the leak around the shaft❓❓❓❓
Nothing yet. I need to see if they sell a seal kit.
Man I miss the days when gas was actually affordable. $2.10 for a gallon of diesel is a steal.
Currently it's $3.60/gallon
you want to keep a spanner with you so you can crack the nut release the pressure then it will drain quickly
👍
Can you take the handle of the pump and use a cordless drill, it will be quicker.
You probably could Alan. But I'm only filling my small equipment so I wanted something that was slow! My big excavator holds a decent amount so I have to crank it.

is that off-road diesel
40 gallons at $86 !!!! Here in California that will set you up to $183.
My head hurts :( ... Nice video by the way :)
Diesel is around $4 per gallon right now here
you can get a red diesel licence now and have drums of it at your depot :) half the price!
👍

What’s the height and width on that tank?
According to the description it's 59 x 22 x 10 inches. I chose this tank because of the compact size.
@@GCFD thank you! That’s probably the one I need!
Do you overfill your tanks from time to time using a hand pump?
Occasionally I have some fuel spill out. Typically I just go easy and keep up with how full the tank is getting. Sometimes I get carried away with cranking the pump....oops!
Step #1: Get rid of the non-auto nozzle and replace with an auto-shutoff nozzle. God I hated the waste from the open nozzle!!!!
Thanks for the tip!

You guys are so lucky $85 for 40 gallons. UK costs $293!
It's going up here lately!

I would have got the one with the electric pump on it instead of the crank

Adjust the latches on the toolbox
Good call! I will check on that.

It's high here too right now.
In your operation a 40 gal is not enough, think bigger.
👍
Get a electric pump system
I couldn't find an electric pump that didn't pump so much volume. The hand pump can crank out a few gallons for my minis.
Pointless to bolt those in when it's behind a truck bed tool box
go electric or go home!!
