    As a mom with a now 5 year old. If i ever have another baby (I'm not even pregnant nor trying so I don't know why I keep watching these videos lol), I regret purchasing an infant car seat or bucke seat. My daughter's convertible car seat lasted from about 8 months to 5 years old and it was well worth every penny. The infant seat on the other hand:
    1. I had to purchase 2 car seats and 3-4 different bases for everyone's car. Next time I would just buy two convertible seats. One for my car, and one for my husband's car and if I'd just put a car seat in one of our parents or friends car if needed. Really, you have to still install a base anyways so why not just save money and get 2 seats and call it a day?
    2. Infant seats are EXPENSIVE and they don't last very long. Baby outgrows them pretty fast so you'll need to buy a convertible in less than a year anyways. Most people don't realize that you can use convertible car seats from birth as long as your baby weights what the seats requirements are and most babies are more than 5lb's. If your baby comes early or is small, I'm sure you have someone who will be more than happy to loan you a bucket seat to use for the first week or two.
    3. They are HEAVY! Around 4-5 months, I started getting bruises on my arms from lugging around the carrier. When you have a 12lb seat and then a 10lb baby and a diaper bag plus whatever else you're tottling around, you're carrying so much weight. And if you go to the store, those seats take up a lot of space in your shopping cart. At 8 months, I was still having her in an infant carrier, but I could no longer carry her in it. I'd have to take her out so that's why I just purchased a convertible.
    Next time around, I'll just get a nice sturdy convertible seat that will last until they're booster seat size and carry baby in a carrier. My daughter always preferred being carried anyways and if you strap the baby on to yourself, your hands are still free and your child is being comforted. Plus it is much less weight to carry and much less awkward as this big heavy car seat isn't getting in the way of anything. I get why people use them but the first time around, I just wish I had known that it was okay to use a convertible seat from the get go.

    Very sturdy in comparison to other strollers that we had. I get a lot of compliments for it. My baby loves being in the bassinet, The ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4qZutfp1y5CaTUcMTuFPbARE5u-8XLiE stroller comfortable. I like the rain cover and the white net that comes with it. I use the rain cover just to cover the car seat when it rains. If your front wheels don't turn well, make sure you lubricate.

    I think you forgot to mention that you can always use a stroller if you choose a convertible car seat and skip the infant seat.
    We bought a doona. And as soon as my son turned one. I feel like he quickly out grew it. He’s just too big to leave in the infant car seat and take him in and out.
    I’d rather use the convertible car seat which is a diono and take him out and put him into a stroller if I need to.
    With my daughter we had a maxi cozi and peg perego infant car seat and travel system. And eventually ended up getting a diono for her.

    If you get an infant car seat, go ahead and get the ones that come with their stroller like in the video at 1:04. It makes traveling and going out with baby a breeze. Car seats are heavy and your baby is only going to keep getting heavier. Once your baby outgrows the infant car seat, then you can still use the stroller for your toddler.

    • @macedarling1180

      how can you still use the stroller if the infant car seat goes with it? I'm so confused.

    • @SuperSkyheart2
      @SuperSkyheart2 4 роки тому +2

      Mace Darling watch that part of the video again. The infant seat attaches and detaches from the stroller. If you go out with baby, simply attach the car seat to the stroller and now you have an infant seat on wheels instead of carrying the seat around. The stroller itself is useful without having to attach the car seat ONLY WHEN baby can hold his/her head up or according to the recommendations on the product manual. I hope that answers your question.

      Mace Darling I don’t think they answered your question. Usually strollers come with a toddler seat already that is removable. So you can just save that part until they are in the convertible car seat.

    Not sure if I plan on getting the Nuna Rava or Graco 4ever, for me I never want to take the car seat out of the car and I only have one car so for me getting an infant car seat makes no sense. I also wouldn't want to carry around my baby in their car seat, that sounds like a lot of work, it would be a lot easier to just carry them by themselves or with the help of a baby carrier or wrap.

    I realize there are very good safety reasons to buy new, but the result is that there are tons of perfectly good, undamaged infant seats on the used market. The risk of buying used is that a seat might have been damaged in an accident, but realistically if someone doesn't plan to drive baby around often, visually inspects a seat for damage, and buys from a reasonably trustworthy seller, there's very minimal risk of buying a high-quality seat used. Studies indicate that the risk of improper installation is far greater in practice. When you consider resale value, a good used seat can be had for almost no total cost, or perhaps used with multiple children to expiration. I think it makes sense to buy infant seats new for people who will drive baby a lot or use the seat for at least 2 kids, but for many new parents with minimal driving and plans for only 1 child in the short term, they can get the benefits of an infant seat with minimal cost and risk by buying used, assuming they use common sense and evaluate each seat and seller carefully.

    I loved my infant car seat with my first, but now with my 3rd, it makes more sense to just use a convertible since there is no way I'm going to lug around a carseat while chasing 2 you kiddos. I just use a baby carrier wherever we go instead.

    Can a new born baby come on and travel comfortably in a convertible car seat

    • @Babylist-Videos
      @Babylist-Videos  4 роки тому +2

      It depends on the one you go with! Some convertible car seats are designed to accommodate babies from birth (and they have special padding and reclines to do so). Others are designed to be used once baby has outgrown their INFANT car seat, so the starting weight is more like 25 pounds. Just be sure to keep an eye on the weight and height limits.

      Many car seats are rated for 5 years of use. The plastic degrades in hot cars. If god forbid you are in a car crash, a used/weak car seat may break and injure the baby. The seat needs to do what it is designed to do in an extreme event. A seat is not primary just a comfortable way to ride.

    • @audrieking7109
      @audrieking7109 3 роки тому +2

      Used car seats are not recommended for a few reasons. One person already mentioned a couple of them. Another issue with car seats is once they've been in a crash, they are no longer considered safe and you are supposed to get a new one. When buying used, you never truly know the history of the car seat because people may lie about it. New car seats are always recommended :)

    • @davidboeger6766
      @davidboeger6766 3 роки тому +3

      @@audrieking7109 I realize this is not the official advice, but I think it's important for proper risk assessment. It's not that car seats are necessarily unsafe after a crash, just that their safety is not easily known or assessable as all crash testing is done on new products. That doesn't mean a small fender bender that is barely felt in the child seat is going to somehow disintegrate it. The industry not only has to advise people to buy new for compliance, but they have a financial incentive to do so. Meanwhile, studies have indicated that improper installation is a far more common risk. There is also some crash test data that suggests that infant seats are inherently safer than convertible seats at that age because of better fit and side impact protection. Also, as far as plastic degrading, note that the expiration dates are very conservative by nature and allow for continuous use with multiple children. A seat which gets used sparingly with one child and then stored in a cool garage will likely last far longer and suffer far less wear.
      I'm not saying there's no place for the "buy new" advice, but as with any risks, proper risk assessment has to look at the whole picture. For families who can't afford to pay full price for a dedicated infant seat but want the convenience, better fit, better crash test results, don't intend to drive often, and are willing to limit their search to reputable sellers of seats which pass basic visual inspection and reportedly didn't see much use, the real risk of buying a busted up seat from an accident and having that negatively impact the baby in the short time they will use it is extraordinarily low, much lower than the risk of improper installation or not properly securing an infant in a larger convertible. If buying a used car seat was objectively bad, then buying used cars would be too for the same concerns, yet nobody bats an eye at buying a well-maintained used car in good condition and driving it safely.
