This episode really did the storyline justice as it was dragging on a bit. Originally Mad may was meant to kidnap summer after her birth but they had to scrap it because it coincided with Madeline McCann being abducted. Was a great story re write
That was extremely selfish of Madeleine McCann to choose that moment to get a abducted/murdered/worse. Some people just feel the need to ruin other people's enjoyment. A true sense of entitlement. 🤦
There are a lot of people like May's character in real-life: someone who really wants and needs something bad in life but can't have it but because they can't accept that, they start to go a bit mad and would do anything to get what they want. In May's case, she wanted that baby of Dawn's specifically because her husband Rob is the biological father of the child so that'd make it feel more like hers when she'd know deep down that she isn't really.
The makers of Eastenders had to change this storyline at the last minute, even though the characters had acted out their scenes. There were many complaints over the fact that May was going to give Dawn a section and take her baby from her, which was the original storyline, involving May actually giving the section. But because of the complaints it was changed to Dawn breaking free, yet there were still complaints over the fact that she was pregnant and chained to a bed.
Summer IS Dawn daughter but may cant accept the fact that she cant have kids and just because Rob is Summer father doesn't mean that she can try and snatch Summer away from Dawn

They had to change the storyline AFTER they had recorded the original scenes, people got concerned over the fact that May would have operated on Dawn to get the baby that they complained and Eastenders had to change the scene to show Dawn break free, but people still complained over the fact that she was pregnant and chained up, AFTER she broke free! Jeez people these days... I am glad she broke free though, I wouldn't have liked that May would operate on her for the baby!
Yes, Dawn had it right after the kidnap. But before that she was totally dismissive of Dawn's pain. Her husband cheated, she wants a baby that she can't have herself & Dawn & Rob tried to con her. Eventually she broke enough to sink that low. I do agree kidnapping was too far. Broken people don't always think straight.
