She had to reveal the allergy in front of everyone like that so the taster couldn't later be like "I switched the bowls and it saved your life, you're welcome, miss picky eater" when actually no, you saved your own life and almost killed your mistress. She has to hold on to the knowledge.
very nice reaction. The meaning of the hairprins someone explain it in the previus video. The food taster changed the dishes so maybe harras (you will see why in the next episode more details) the young cocumbine without knowing was poison, so that saved her life

3:40 I never sussed out the math to the whole mother- and daughter-in-law thing, mathematically, but it seemed to break down to this: the current emperor would likely have not brought on such a young consort. It's just... ick. A lot of history is ick.
Lishu's resume likely includes things like "being precocious" "eating boogers" and "puberty" - none of which translate into the skillset that you need for being a consort. And, while on paper a consort's job is to produce heirs, in reality it also includes political, situational and social awareness.
I couldn't be a consort and I'm three times her age. When I *was* her age I stayed up playing Nintendo and not doing homework. I'd be poisoned to death and my homework would be late and they'd find my corpse in a Ren & Stimpy t-shirt instead of a pretty gown.
The previous emperor liked young girls. IDK why they leave out how young the empress dowager was when she gave birth to the current emperor but lets just say she was a child herself.
Lishu was brought on as his concubine but thankfully the scum died before he touched her. I believe she came back not because the current emperor saw her as someone to have a relationship with but instead her family has connections and it's to please them.
I believe Ah-Duo is one year older than the emperor.
I also could not have been a concubine, I would have been beheaded for opening my mouth. I'd be dead on day one.
The emperor does have a reason to bring Lishu to the rear palace but that's season 3 material if we ever got one. All I can say is that their relationship is wholesome even though Lishu as a character has a very unfortunate and tragic backstory.

7:45 the thing is, maomao has very little concern for her own health, and so the only way to get her to take care of herself is to be a bit forceful, remember her dad had to ban her from working with corpses or she'd end up going to far. she's the kind of person to need someone to look after her

The function of the consorts is primarily as breeders for the Emperor's lineage, no forgetting that. But the selection of Consorts is not always up to the Emperor. They are sometimes both hand picked based on individual taste and interests or also gifted by nobles or nations seeking political leverage. No different than the arranged marriage in Violet Evergarden.
The old emperor may have been a skeevy perv, or not. Having a concubine does not mean USING a concubine. With mortality rates among both newborns and mothers being high, having a deep reserve of options waiting to mature only makes sense. The new emperor claiming Lady Lishu served double duty as maintaining whatever political arrangement her presence secured in the first place, as well as (attempting) to protect her from further hazard. There is a pattern and a purpose to the New Emperor's choices of "favorite" among his entire Rear Palace collection.
