I have often observed this thing that the kids who remember their previous life so vividly, have often been unfortunately a victim of a very violent death or an accident. I don't think a person dying a natural death, remembers his previous birth for a long time.
And it's not a coincidence, but the place in which they reincarnate in their next birth is mostly pretty close to the place in which they died in their previous birth. Their past life connection is so strong!
And it really becomes very strange to understand what's going on when a kid of merely 4-5 years starts to say things that are not just possible to imagine at that age or in no way can be learnt from others.

In case of natural death, the soul crosses bardo. They gain the insight regarding their life purpose and learning. But in case of traumatic deaths, the energy body gets heavy due to karma and finds it hard to even move up. Hence it hovers and travels till another body is presented to them. This is called reincarnation.
In rest of the cases, memories are intact and consolidated, but they aren't true reincarnation.

When I was a kid, I used to remember very few things about my past life. I used to tell my parents that they aren't my real family, I have a family somewhere else. There used to be a house a few kilometres from my home which I felt was my home, I badly wanted to go back. I did not want to live with my current family. After few years I lost that feeling. Now I don't have that feeling anymore.

My dad knew it's common for little children to remember their past life, he later at one instance said I would soon forget it as I grow old, it's no big deal. I once saw a dream when i was 8-9 y/o where i was walking through the corridors of a muslim household and it was dark with a little light above my head. I was walking by the corridors and then appeared a huge semi portrait of a lady wearing greenish-black anarkali or something similar to that. I immediately recognized the lady and said "it's me, omg! ISN'T this my portrait but why don't I look like this lady anymore" and then started searching for everyone but the house was empty and then i woke up realizing it was indeed me but now i am a completely different person. I still remember this dream vividly as if it had happened yesterday. We only one side of the story - which is told by the boy's family. They could have easily obtained all the information about the murder, the radio shop and everything about the murdered man's family by reading newspapers. They then trained a young, impressionable boy what to do. The boy convinced himself that he must be re-incarnated if his family tell him. he just did as he was told. And so, they created this entire story. The only problem I have is - they don't seem to have a motive. They didn't receive any financial gain from the murdered businessman's family. The associate that the police arrested for the murder, could be either coincidence, or just the wrong man - but without any concrete proof, you cannot arrest and jail a person because a 5 year old boy claims he saw everything in his previous life. I am shocked that Indian courts accepted the re-incarnation story as evidence. No independent verification, no evidence - just confirmation bias by the public and the Police.
And who told you investigation was not done? To my surprise, the culprit accepted his crime.

Have you ever read any of Ian Stevenson's books? Try reading "20 cases suggestive of reincarnation". Once you have read that book and seen how meticulous Ian Stevensons documentation is then you can try and refute what he wrote. Until then I don't think you have a full grasp of how strong the evidence actually is. Especially when quite a number of these kids also have birth marks that come with the mode of the previous personalities death it makes it beyond coincidence.
