thanks for being here!! And putting up with my 'big butt chemistry analogies' LOL!!
Cassandra Bankson I have a skin care question . My skin has pimples and then they turn to scabs . Can you help me
Hmm, I can try! Do you pick at them at all? When they are 'pimples', do they have white or black heads, or do they seem to be under the skin?
Cassandra Bankson I don't really pick at them
scary ghost in the mirror
This video was a request that someone commented on my '5 worst products for ance' video!! See? Im a genie in a bottle! Ask and you shall receive! 😂
Cassandra! I looooved this video! As an esthetician, I have this exact speech to my clients on repeat every day it feels. Education is SO important when it comes to this. I want ladies to know what's going on and how they can fix it. I know all too well what it's like to feel hopeless when it came to this (cystic acne sufferer 🙋🏻) so you making videos like this is amazing!! Keep them coming!! 💜
Citric acid is not vitamin C. Vitamin C is L-ascorbic acid. Named for the order they were discovered A,B,C ect.
I'm in beauty school getting my esthetics license and I gotta say (not that I dont love my teacher) I feel that I learn more from you because we learn in the same way.
Im a man, i must say since watching your videos. I have started to incorporate AHAs and BHA products in my skin care routine and i have seen improvements on my skin, so thanks a lot♥️
hey Cassandra!im from indonesia and i've been subscribed to you for a long time and i want to tell you that your videos really helped me, i still have acne even i have tried so many regiment, & health tips. sometimes i'd get emotional breakdown whenever i look in the mirror, and i can't do anything about how it looks and it would look worse covered with make up. i really admire your attitude towards loving yourself, sometimes watching your videos made me feel less alone, i said that 'cuz everywhere i go everyone have beautiful skin and it frustrates me 'cus i've been eating healthy, drink LOTSof water, doing everything like changing pillow sheets, not touching my face, etc but still my face still look worse i thought there's something wrong with me. anyway yea watching your videos inspires me to appreciate what i've got and made me feel sort of normal (idk but i feel something positive) because of your energy. thank you so much god bless you
Hello Via! first and foremost thank you so much for being part of this amazing youtube family for so long, and for sharing this comment!! You honestly put a smile on my face and heart. I know how hard appearance can be, and if I have some way been able to help you realize the beauty within you, that's all ive ever hoped for!! I am posting a video on how I cleared my skin later this month/in September, and hope it will help. I promise there is NOTHING wrong with you, and these struggles will all make sense when the dots connect in the future
awh thank you so much for replying, it means a lot, and yeah i'd definitely try to document it. much love
I love your advice... Informative but straight to the point
Thank you love!!!
Hi, Cassandra! I’ve watched many of your videos and haven’t subscribed until just now! 🙈 idk how I wasn’t subscribed. Anyway, I am studying for my esthetician’s final exam and this video was so helpful! I am about to check out more of your videos to see if you have other educational videos related to what I need to know. 🤗
Thank you so much for creating such helpful videos! I would love to see more like this, if you haven’t already posted more. I thoroughly loved this! 💛
I love being educated about our skin by an intelligent and beautiful person like you Cassandra!
Hey there, citric acid is not actually Vitamin C, though they are both usually found in the same natural sources. Therefore, to say that Vitamin C is an AHA is incredibly misleading.
I love learning about the science behind acne with you. It makes me feel more in control to clear my skin. Thanks cassandra!
Love the geeking out about skincare! Also that shirt is super cute!
Haha thank you Carmen!! Do you have any other ending-out-on-skincare topics you'd like me to cover?
Cassandra Bankson honestly you can talk about anything and I'd enjoy it! lol
Cassandra Bankson I'd love to hear about allergies (possibly food allergies) and acne/skincare. You mentioned that allergies might change the way that some of the acids work with your skin. I'd love an elaboration on that!
Excellent video! It's great the way you share science based info, and there is a lack of videos like that out there. Please share more! Thank you!
The most helpful youtuber for acne sufferers. Thank you for educating us 💜 following your tips have made such a huge difference in my skin.
You should become a dermatologist! You would be AMAZING at it and it seems like this type of topics interest you!
amongtheH2O she is studying to eventually go into that field :)
This was so informative! I loved the way you explained everything..this style of video is GREAT!
Ahhh!! Thank you so much for sharing all your acne knowledge! This video really helped me better understand acne and how it works. Now I'm wondering if I actually have dry skin instead of oily! 🤔
Great video, thanks!!! You do such a good job of explaining things thoroughly but easy to understand. Very helpful!
This is one of the best acne videos I've ever watched, thank you!🙂
Thank you SO much for all of the educational information regarding skin care. I have hormonal acne( I say this because my skin magically cleared up with all three pregnancies) and am interested to see if I can help my skin out by learning from your videos.
this video is very helpful and easy to understand. love it!! thank you cassandra!!
That was very informative and helpful, but I wish you would tell us what skincare products you recommend.
You are so vibrant and kind hearted! Thanks Cassandra!
You are really really an angel.... Pls never stop speaking about the science of skin... Its just so helpful.. Loads of love❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for putting this information out here. I wish I knew all this back then when my acne was at its worst stage, however, now with breakouts or scaring this is helping so much.
Thank you for the video . You did a great job explaining how it works. I'm subscribing to your channel.
This BY FAR is the THE BEST video hands down! I was wondering why my darn face would love a product and get better than stop working! I love you so much. I'm so backlinking this! I'm going to switch up my routine! Love this
P.S. I'm going to make a video about this and recommend my viewers to "holy grail" this video lol
I know this video was made in the past, however I❤️your explanation and your super explanation too!! Awesome💋
This very informative i liked it so much!
For 10 years that I combat with my skin problem, I though I have an oily but I have a dry skin after my shower so, definitely I have a dry skin indeed... Very informative video.. Thanks for uploading
Thanks Cassandra it was really helpful. What about azaleic acid? Where does that fit in? How does that benefit acne prone skin ?
Great video Cassandra! I think my skin prefers salsylic acid but will be doing the shower test to see if my skin is dry or oily.
I freaking love you because you make so much stuff make sense! I secretly was alwyas dry and thought I was oily this WHOLE time!!! OMGeeeee! Love you Cassandra! Thanks for spreading your light and glow across the world!
Hey Cassandra, love your video! New subscriber here. Question for checking skin type: when you come out of the shower, should it be that you have already cleaned your face with a cleanser? Or is it when you just wash your face with just water?
For me, if I purely wash with water, my face is still oily as my cooking pan. But if it's after double-cleansing in the shower (Biore + Cerave) then I'll say it's kinda normal. Though during the day, my skin is so oily that I'm almost a disco ball, reflecting light all over my face. So many people commented how my face is so oily. Love to hear back from you.
Thank you so much!! You do a great job explaining all of this. It really helps to be more informed! Have a wonderful day and again thank you!!
Your mnemonic device isn’t stupid 😊 thank you!
Really enjoy these in depth videos, you should make a series!
Loved this! You are such an awesome educator! Keep up the hard work! ❤️
Love the geekie videos! Keep them coming girl!
What are you studying towards? Dermatology, esthetician?
This was definitely super informative, thank you!
THANK YOU THIS IS EVERYTHING IVE WANTED TO KNOW FOR YEARS
Very helpful information! Keep up on this path! 👍🏼
Look at you getting all technical and sciency. Love that you are so enthusiastic about it all and your studies. Hugs from the middle-east. :-)
ur amazing omg
Wow Cassandra!!! JUST WOW !!! Did not know that about your skin type when you get out of the shower ! Interesting I suffer from adult acne at 27 fixing to turn 28 Aug 26th !!! I JUST PRAY ONE DAY SCIENCE WILL DEVELOP A FOR SURE CURE FOR ACNE VERY SOON!!!!! UGHHH
I looooove glycolic acid too! Man i wish i'd used it sooner. I'm oily and acne prone but it works so good for me. Usually when i run my hands through my face while cleansing it, the texture is so rough, big clogged pores everywhere, its so uneven. Within a week of using glycolic acid, my skin was smooooooooooooooooooooooooth.
You are the BEST teacher......
Thank you love!!
Thanks you soo much for this video I struggle with acne and hopefully now I know find better products to help my skin. I have watched so many videos but this one really helped in my understanding of AHA's and BHA's. So thank you xx
I love hearing the pathophys and pharmacokinetics and pharmecodynamics of it all so please keep it up :)

OMG!!! I love this video and I LOVE you! I had the worse skin out of all of my siblings and used to always ask "Why me!?" There were constant breakouts. They were of all sizes and sometimes gave me major headaches.
Your videos have changed my skin and my life. You have helped me reduce my acne and repair my skin. Thank you so much
That was really beneficial I really like how you explain it.
Love the way this was explained and I'm so grateful for your videos, just wondering what products do you you/ how do you use glycolic acid?💜
That's hilarious to distinguish AHA & BHA that never gonna forget that thank you
Excellent video!! Thanks
More informative and educational videos like this, please!
I've found that my skin seems to love this:
Dr. Bronners Peppermint Soap
AmorePacific Treatment Enzyme Peel
Pixi Glow Tonic Toner
Ole Hendriksen Invigorating Night Transformstion Gel
Ole Hendriksen Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil
I'm still searching for a daily moisturizer and a sunscreen. Given how the above has helped my skin clear..any suggestions on these?
Great explaination. Thank you.
Thank you for such detailed explanation about acids! I love science and skin care!
Thank you love!!! I hope you enjoyed- if you have other video requests please let me know!!
Hey Cassandra! Thanks for this really helpful video! Finally I understand how this acid thing works! I'm curious how my skin will react to lactic or glycolic acid as it seems too be dry. I already tried vitamin c but I guess I used it too often because my skin broke out again (seems she was very angry 😌 as I used it two or three days in a row although I haven't been used to acids in this concentration). Do you have experienced breakouts caused by acid usage? And did you use vitamin c? Thank you so much for the good explanation!
Regards from Germany 😀 Dani
very educational I loved this and found it very interesting, and thanks for the helpful memorization tip about AHA's and BHA's lol
Other than a slip up about vitamin c being an aha, this was a great video.
OMG A BEAUTY GURU WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT THEYRE TALKING ABOUT
I'm scared, what is that big white scary ghost thing in the mirror? 👻
I'm currently using Vitamin C serum, can I still add AHA/BHA to my routine? I've read conflicting advice
Yes please do a video of physical vs chemical exfolients. I've always wondered if physical ones are even a good idea at all if a lot of them tend to have tiny "jagged" edges and cause damage without me noticing
i don't think all physical exfoliants are bad though! there are just so many forms of it. scrubs are no no for me, while i love facial brushes (not all of them are equal!! look for the gentler ones) and konjac sponges. the thing is, while chemical exfoliants are what in the long run made my skin better, physical exfoliants help me with cleaning the skin better (especially if u use makeup) and more quick, instant result. when theres a big event coming up in a few hours and i need my makeup to look really smooth and good i'll go for physical. for long term benefits, chemical. for aging skin though, i'd avoid physical ones. :)
That's solid advice, thanks!
big hug and big thanks cassandra... ure video so helpfull
OMG this was so helpful!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you! You're the best
Informative and entertaining while discussing :) iloveit!
I love this type of videos. Get geeky 🤓 more often por favor!
The best! Thanks so much, Casssndra!
I cured acne but I have red acne marks on my skin. Should I use prefer AHA or salicylic acid or both?
So, so, SO interesting!! Love it! (I'm gonna save this video in a favorite list right now) Thanks!!
Very informative video, great job! I have been suffering from hormonal acne for years, and what annoys me the most is PIH and PIE. I'm pale and it keeps building up no matter what I use! So my last resort was using exfoliating acids. I just ordered a product called "Volpaderm AHA" by Frezyderm (Greek brand). It's 10% AHA and BHA and I really hope it works on fading my spots! Do you think it is high percentage of acids and might cause irritation? I'm thinking of using it 1-2 times a week for safety (although my pharmacist said I can use it daily). It would be great if you could check it out and give me your opinion! Thanks!
I have followed your vids for years...u have always been beautiful (even with acne!), But u look Incredible now (even better without makeup, I think!) And u seem so happy. Good for U!! Are U still modeling?
SOOOO HELPFUL thank you!
Now i get it...
I love your explanation...
Love love...
Hi Cass! Have you ever considered getting laser treatments for the scars? I would really love to see you talk about that topic in your future video. Have a nice day!! :)
Hey gurl! 😜 I have two different cleansers from the same company/line. One is for dry skin (which I usually have with a bit of acne) and the other for normal/combination. Now that I looked at the back of them, per your recommendation, I just realized that the ingredients are EXACTLY the same, and in the same order… 😳 What does that mean? They are the same and the labeling is just fake…?! I do feel like the one for dry skin "stings" a bit. Can that be because the citric acid level is higher (which it ought to be according to this video)? I realize you can't answer for this company. I just thought it was odd since they are supposed to be for different skin types… 😬
Which bacteria fighting products would you recommend? My skin works well with acids but not w benzoyl peroxide - it makes it too itchy and burns too much. I have to take off after 2min even if I just use a pea sized amount.
I’ve heard sulfur. What about clindamycin?
What do you think are the main reasons behind the upper layers of skin not shedding properly in the first place? Also a second question: assuming it is the shared functional group of the AHAs that makes them effective (apart from the molecular size which determines how far they penetrate into the skin), when your body gets used to one of them, say by generating skin cells more quickly to replace the ones removed by the exfoliant, how would it tell the difference between AHAs? And if it can't, is there any point in swtiching them around to try and overcome this problem? I can see how switching from BHA to AHA could have helped, however.
🤣😂 love this video! You made it soooo much easier to understand the difference! Thank you ❤️
hi Cassandra can you please explain what is mandelic acid I'm using a product that contains it... thank you...... hope to hear from you soon... please help
I've had oil dehydrated skin. It feel so uncomfortable. My skin is a bit oily but when it's dehydrated it is a total grease mess.
Feels*
You are amazing! I love your videos
this was helpful, but what about benzoyl peroxide? where does that fit in?
benzoyl peroxide is not an exfoliant but it kills the bacteria believed to cause acne
yeah benzoyl peroxide works by killing bacteria, not exfoliating. but AHA is really good to use alongside with benzoyl peroxide. i use glycolic acid once a week with BP and it made my skin so smooth, less dry and cracky from BP, and the BP works more effectively.
You rock!!!!! Thumbs up always , love ya too!!
love your makeup!
awesome video!
THIS WAS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED AND WANTED THANK YOU ❤️❤️
what do you think about benzoil perokside and acne?
not sure if it was answered in any other videos, but if you're trying to use different AHA/BHA acids, are there certain products to avoid while using them? (random example) say putting on vitamin c serum after using a glycolic toner. would they effect eachother or cause irritation? thanks! :)
could you make a review about alima pure and 100 pure products? also bought may lindstrom products, any reviews?
Have you tried amelan cream??
Mam i using benzoyl peroxide gel 2.5 % i have oily skin type after 16 days over using this cream i got sum pimples so help mee plzzz
How come retinoids/ Aha/Bha dont work on my closed comedones? I started having dermatillomania bc of this ( nothing other than picking works on those bumps that consist of stringy pasty stuff consistency). And those bumps refill themselves in like 1-2 days. Ive troed to stop picking but nothing gets rid of them (I dont want to look red from picking but I want my skin to be smooth and makeup to look nice). I've been looking at your videos for a long time and I would like to know (since I cant look at your face upclose in the video) If you have really gotten rid of the clogged pores you had and stopped them from coming back? I am a vegan as well and keep sugar and oil low in my food. Still they fill up ASAP after extractions. It drives me nuts. Please help! Dermatologist told that retinoid should help but Ive been using it for a year and nothing.. I dont have a problem with inflamed zits (since gicing up dairy and junk food) but those damn bumps..
AHA is life.
