Cassandra! I looooved this video! As an esthetician, I have this exact speech to my clients on repeat every day it feels. Education is SO important when it comes to this. I want ladies to know what's going on and how they can fix it. I know all too well what it's like to feel hopeless when it came to this (cystic acne sufferer 🙋🏻) so you making videos like this is amazing!! Keep them coming!! 💜

hey Cassandra!im from indonesia and i've been subscribed to you for a long time and i want to tell you that your videos really helped me, i still have acne even i have tried so many regiment, & health tips. sometimes i'd get emotional breakdown whenever i look in the mirror, and i can't do anything about how it looks and it would look worse covered with make up. i really admire your attitude towards loving yourself, sometimes watching your videos made me feel less alone, i said that 'cuz everywhere i go everyone have beautiful skin and it frustrates me 'cus i've been eating healthy, drink LOTSof water, doing everything like changing pillow sheets, not touching my face, etc but still my face still look worse i thought there's something wrong with me. anyway yea watching your videos inspires me to appreciate what i've got and made me feel sort of normal (idk but i feel something positive) because of your energy. thank you so much god bless you

Hey Cassandra, love your video! New subscriber here. Question for checking skin type: when you come out of the shower, should it be that you have already cleaned your face with a cleanser? Or is it when you just wash your face with just water?
For me, if I purely wash with water, my face is still oily as my cooking pan. But if it's after double-cleansing in the shower (Biore + Cerave) then I'll say it's kinda normal. Though during the day, my skin is so oily that I'm almost a disco ball, reflecting light all over my face. So many people commented how my face is so oily. Love to hear back from you.

Usually when i run my hands through my face while cleansing it, the texture is so rough, big clogged pores everywhere, its so uneven. Within a week of using glycolic acid, my skin was smooooooooooooooooooooooooth.

Hey Cassandra! Thanks for this really helpful video! Finally I understand how this acid thing works! I'm curious how my skin will react to lactic or glycolic acid as it seems too be dry. I already tried vitamin c but I guess I used it too often because my skin broke out again (seems she was very angry 😌 as I used it two or three days in a row although I haven't been used to acids in this concentration). Do you have experienced breakouts caused by acid usage? And did you use vitamin c? Thank you so much for the good explanation!

Yes please do a video of physical vs chemical exfolients. I've always wondered if physical ones are even a good idea at all if a lot of them tend to have tiny "jagged" edges and cause damage without me noticing

    • @thereadingsylph
      @thereadingsylph 7 років тому

i don't think all physical exfoliants are bad though! there are just so many forms of it. scrubs are no no for me, while i love facial brushes (not all of them are equal!! look for the gentler ones) and konjac sponges. the thing is, while chemical exfoliants are what in the long run made my skin better, physical exfoliants help me with cleaning the skin better (especially if u use makeup) and more quick, instant result. when theres a big event coming up in a few hours and i need my makeup to look really smooth and good i'll go for physical. for long term benefits, chemical. for aging skin though, i'd avoid physical ones. :)

Very informative video, great job! I have been suffering from hormonal acne for years, and what annoys me the most is PIH and PIE. I'm pale and it keeps building up no matter what I use! So my last resort was using exfoliating acids. I just ordered a product called "Volpaderm AHA" by Frezyderm (Greek brand). It's 10% AHA and BHA and I really hope it works on fading my spots! Do you think it is high percentage of acids and might cause irritation? I'm thinking of using it 1-2 times a week for safety (although my pharmacist said I can use it daily). It would be great if you could check it out and give me your opinion! Thanks!

Hey gurl! 😜 I have two different cleansers from the same company/line. One is for dry skin (which I usually have with a bit of acne) and the other for normal/combination. Now that I looked at the back of them, per your recommendation, I just realized that the ingredients are EXACTLY the same, and in the same order… 😳 What does that mean? They are the same and the labeling is just fake…?! I do feel like the one for dry skin "stings" a bit. Can that be because the citric acid level is higher (which it ought to be according to this video)? I realize you can't answer for this company. I just thought it was odd since they are supposed to be for different skin types… 😬

Which bacteria fighting products would you recommend? My skin works well with acids but not w benzoyl peroxide - it makes it too itchy and burns too much. I have to take off after 2min even if I just use a pea sized amount.
I’ve heard sulfur. What about clindamycin?

What do you think are the main reasons behind the upper layers of skin not shedding properly in the first place? Also a second question: assuming it is the shared functional group of the AHAs that makes them effective (apart from the molecular size which determines how far they penetrate into the skin), when your body gets used to one of them, say by generating skin cells more quickly to replace the ones removed by the exfoliant, how would it tell the difference between AHAs? And if it can't, is there any point in swtiching them around to try and overcome this problem? I can see how switching from BHA to AHA could have helped, however.

I've had oil dehydrated skin. It feel so uncomfortable. My skin is a bit oily but when it's dehydrated it is a total grease mess.

benzoyl peroxide is not an exfoliant but it kills the bacteria believed to cause acne

yeah benzoyl peroxide works by killing bacteria, not exfoliating. but AHA is really good to use alongside with benzoyl peroxide. i use glycolic acid once a week with BP and it made my skin so smooth, less dry and cracky from BP, and the BP works more effectively.

what do you think about benzoil perokside and acne?

  • @venus8888

not sure if it was answered in any other videos, but if you're trying to use different AHA/BHA acids, are there certain products to avoid while using them? (random example) say putting on vitamin c serum after using a glycolic toner. would they effect eachother or cause irritation? thanks! :)

How come retinoids/ Aha/Bha dont work on my closed comedones? I started having dermatillomania bc of this ( nothing other than picking works on those bumps that consist of stringy pasty stuff consistency). And those bumps refill themselves in like 1-2 days. Ive troed to stop picking but nothing gets rid of them (I dont want to look red from picking but I want my skin to be smooth and makeup to look nice). I've been looking at your videos for a long time and I would like to know (since I cant look at your face upclose in the video) If you have really gotten rid of the clogged pores you had and stopped them from coming back? I am a vegan as well and keep sugar and oil low in my food. Still they fill up ASAP after extractions. It drives me nuts. Please help! Dermatologist told that retinoid should help but Ive been using it for a year and nothing.. I dont have a problem with inflamed zits (since gicing up dairy and junk food) but those damn bumps..
