    On rewatch I think I made it sound like you can't still catch and transfer in the newer games. You CAN. But Pokemon Company/Nintendo can still choose not to allow certain pokemon you have cought to be used in that game and may not even come in the form of DLC. You'd have to wait until they eventually have a roster that will let you use it outside of HOME.
    I just don't like that style personally when the appeal is collecting and having choice on who I want to use.

    I love the old games a bit better . Specially from gen 3 to 5 I agree

      Yup. Lots of love went into those games as well.

    I've also been playing with the gen 5 rule without knowing it was called the gen 5 rule.

      Haha yeah I didn't put a lot of thought into the naming of it as you can tell but im glad there are people out there who felt like me.
      Are you doing it because you don't own the later games or for similar reasons as me?

    • @BaneOfThanatos
      @BaneOfThanatos Місяць тому +1

      @@Livvvid a bit of both, I don't own the newer games but I've seen plenty of gameplay in my research and I just feel that something was lost in the transition to 3D. There's a charm to pixel art and a charm that I feel while playing the DS games specifically that I think is lost in newer games.

      @@BaneOfThanatos Then yeah we feel the same. I really like the designs of some of the 3D era pokedex's ( love gen 7 pokedex) but the games themselves I feel were really lackluster and have only been declining in quality. I think the general vibe with pokemon fans would disagree with me though so I don't think it will ever go back to how I used to enjoy pokemon but as I said in the video, even if you play in your own little world with gens 1-5 its still full of amazing games and experiences. I forgot to mention in the video how you can even play and collect pokemon from the RPG Gamecube games or other spin off titles and send those into your cards and stransfre into black and white 2.

    i still play newer games but i gotta agree that gens 3-5 are the best period the pokemon company had with this franchise, even if a lot of people at the time may not have always seen it that way. i find myself sticking to those generations myself, intentionally or not. theyre still a real fun time and i never have to worry about certain pokemon just not being there. heck, ive played through unova like.. 5 times? and one of those saves has almost 400 hours on it alone. good games will always hold up.

    • @Livvvid
      @Livvvid  Місяць тому +1

      @MintleafCakes we sound similar. I will probably still play the new games but I just won't play them in the same way. Why would I? It feels like that time investment isn't respected from a collection stand point.
      The older games are also amazing, peaking probably at gen 5 specifically.
      Thank you for the comment !

    Awesome video 👏 It was cool to hear your thoughts on this. I’m definitely not a big fan of the convoluted transfer methods and limited-time events. (Though that’s on me for missing many of those.) I do play the 3DS and Switch games, but I’ll always be partial to the earlier ones

    • @Livvvid
      @Livvvid  Місяць тому +1

      @shinycollector7 hey thanks for the comment I'm glad you liked it.
      Oh I despise those timed events. And I was always jealous of Japan because they had them much more frequently and japan is a much smaller country than the US with better public transport so it's easier to travel to a different city for a couple hours to get event pokemon. You're right about that for sure.
      And even doing my method is a bit convoluted. Like you still need an earlier DS model that supports the GBA slot. But as the gens progress it got easier.
      It's just a bummer that after gen 7 I can't send up anything from that gen and back. Like maybe I get the itch to play Gale of Darkness and send that Lugia up just because it's cool. Nope, can't do it anymore.
      Now, if they do "ports" of the old games with transfer support I will be over the moon. And maybe they even open up the exclusive events we all missed like they did with Celebi in the Crystal 3DS release.

      @@Livvvid For sure, I really enjoyed it!
      That’s a great point, part of the problem was getting to the events. And in the earlier days of the internet, another issue was just finding out about them in the first place. I never went to any Gen 3 events (didn’t know they were happening) but did manage to get a Celebi in Silver (which I unfortunately don’t have now)
      Agreed completely. I’m waiting for ports of the Gen 1 and 2 games (maybe more?) for the Switch eShop. I’d definitely buy them. It’s a start (and gives me some hope) that they brought Stadium and Snap to it
      It’s frustrating with how they’ve approached some of these things, but I’m doing my best to see what options there are, like buying official distribution discs and carts (but man are they pricey). Would be cool to eventually complete a living Pokédex for the first 5 Generations

    • @Livvvid
      @Livvvid  Місяць тому +1

      @shinycollector7 I know we're random people on the internet but im not kidding I would help optain distro discs or any other official methods. It's part of gaming/pokemon history but I think it would also be really cool to distro those events lol.
      If you have the knowledge I could probably cover costs.

      @@Livvvid That’s awesome 🤝 What did you have in mind? No pressure at all. I’ve seen various Gen 3 discs (English Jirachi, Japanese Celebi) and DS distribution carts (various mythicals) on eBay, but most are $200+. Right now I’m focusing on building my game collection (at least one English copy of every game), so I’m holding off on buying any distribution hardware

      So I'm asking because I must be having a mandella effect on this. I thought it was "Squirtle squad"??? You're the second person today I've seen call it the squirtle gang and the first person I saw it from was doing a quiz and got the question correct when they said squirtle gang. I was like "aww thats an error question. must be incorrect"

      @Livvvid Just did some searching on youtube. The episode IS titled "Squirtle Squad". Hadn't seen it since I was a kid, so musta been something that stuck in my head all these years. I must be having a Mandella moment lol.
      But I do see folks calling them the Squirtle gang here and there on the internet too.

    I liked this video and largely agree but mostly because I've literally not played past generation 5 (not out of hatred out of financial inability) but from what I've seen yeah the practice of lopping off games and services is tedious and annoying. God forbid I want to transfer a Pokemon from gen 3 from a save from when I was a teenager up to a newer game to preserve that mon and it's memories. Nah pay for the new game and get a new version of that Pokemon they are all the same right?

    • @Livvvid
      @Livvvid  Місяць тому

      Exactly. You nailed it.
      It's just not really for me anymore. Parcelling out the pokedex and reselling it as DLC OR not even having that mon for several games isnt interesting to me.
      Thanks for watching and for the comment, it helps.
