Giant Soap Bubbles at Night - Unearthly Colors

- If you watch in anything less than HD you're missing out!
Some incredible colors are captured in these giant soap bubbles. The reflections and lighting are from two 75W fluorescent light bulbs behind the camera. Notice how the colors reflected off the bubbles change as more and more are created in the same shot. This is best noticed with the first three bubbles made in the very start of the video. The first bubble has the most variety of color because the wand was soaking wet and could provide enough fluid for a thick bubble wall, the next bubble however had a thinner wall and reflected mostly green. The last bubble in the series was almost entirely limited to blue and a few hints of red. This is caused by a prism effect that changes as the bubbles become thinner and thinner. An interesting bit of bubble science.

0:57 Bubble inside a bubble! Awesome!!
Miss you man, your channel is not the same without you.
If you get a chance, share this video on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit...Any support is greatly appreciated! Thanks! I still read every comment so let me know what you think!
Great! Let me know how it goes! It works best when it's cool and humid, and it takes some practice so give it a little time and you'll have it figured out.
I'm going to try it on smaller bubbles and see if it's noticeable. If it's a really nice effect I'll make a video, but I sort of doubt it will make much visible difference with how thin bubbles are.
Magical! And you're right, what a difference in HD!
This looks so incredibly satisfying. The look on this guys face when he gets a really good one. I don't know man, gave me some serious trippy flashbacks! Love it!
Yep, something like that. They look pretty great just by moonlight or a flashlight but that's too dark for my camera to pick up.
They seem not to always work which is why I listed my UA-cam channel address as well, but the annotations are there. At least, they are for me.
Can't believe watching bubbles was that soothing. Thanks for easing my mind!
The colored reflections you see are how bubbles reflect white light.
The Colors of the Universe in one Giant Bubble.
The Spectrum is Truly Mesmerizing and is Undeniably a worthy piece of Art.
I've been thinking of trying it in a lit parking lot at night where there are likely to be other people around to see it. I could get some fun reactions.
The music goes so well with this... It's so peaceful. Just like the bubbles!
OMG, nearly made an old man cry! This is so wonderful to see!!!
I'm glad you're here too!
Great find! Looks like someone already beat me to it. We'll see, I may make a video myself soon.
Just two fluorescent white lights. The colors happen naturally.
Mr. Gallegos and I just watched this with your aunt and uncle Thurmond and we are all very impressed!!!! We will keep watching and try some experiments with the kiddos :)
I am so glad I found this channel, the things you have on here are absolutely amazing.
The most magical video I've ever seen on youtube.
Yes, that was amazing! I've never seen anything like that before. Nice job!
I just found this channel and I'm so amazed
My J-Lube just arrived in the mail! So psyched for this! My astroglide formula worked pretty good but i'm ready to scale this up to make them MEGA bubbles!
That was really cool, way cooler than I expected!
Did you ever tried to add Fluorescein to the bubble mix?
I think I might begin everyday watching this. mesmerizing! thank you!
1:05 a bubble inside a bigger bubble it's the most beautiful thing i even seen xD
Wow the music and cricket sounds just mix perfectly!!
this could go viral with colors like that
Those look like some pretty earthly colours to me.
You're a wizard, Harry.
Absolutely stunning!
Fantastic work ! Great, colorful, dazzling effects. you're an artist with the soap bubble medium ! thanks for sharing this.
You should try to put some sort of liquid fluorescence in the bubble soap, like glow paint. That would be pretty bad ass
Dude, I just discovered your page and am an instant fan. Question...have you tried the bubble formula with some of the fluorescing liquid added in and viewed with blacklights going? I know that'd be tough to video but I wondered if it'd be viewable to the naked eye. Anyway, enjoying your videos. Thank you!
A number of people have done that but only will small bubbles from what I've seen. I think it would take some pretty powerful black lights to make it work but it's worth a shot. It's too cold outside now for me to play with bubbles but I might try some other time.
OH my god that would be an instant hit on youtube
YOU MUST DO THAT
it sounds sooo cool,
i just ordered some jlube like 10 minutes ago
you my friend inspire me to be creative !
i love it, keep doing what your doing brother
Absolutely beautiful...
Wow! Beautiful!
It's totally awesome in HD.
Nice bubbles. Btw, the explanation of the colors given in the video description is not correct. bubble colors are not the result of a prism effect (refraction) but of thin-film interference which results from light being reflected from both the front and back wall of the soap film. The slight difference in the distance that the two rays travel causes them to be out of phase and results in cancellation of some of the light's colors. This is why the order of the colors is much more complex than a rainbows. Worth looking up to see an illustrated explanation.
Very cool, I hadn't heard that before. Much more interesting that it's caused by interference
Here are a couple of articles you might find interesting:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin-film_interference
soapbubble.wikia.com/wiki/Color_and_Film_Thickness
Could you do this again but use the, for lack of a better term, netted one?
Stunning!
*watches in non-hd*
that was pretty cool, wait a sec..apparently I had to watch it in hd :|

I KNOW WHAT THE MEANING OF LIFE IS NOW.
I wouldnlove to see you try this with glowticks in the liquid mix
I think I have a new appreciation for bubbles now
Just plain white CFL lights.
I'm not sure if this is true but I read somewhere a while back, can't remember the source but if I find it I'll give it to you, that says that stronger "unpoppable" bubbles that can be made up to 1m in diameter can be made using a corn starch formula. If you want to try and create potentially stronger bubbles I'd recommend experimenting.
If you do this again you should have some on the camera pan to see how far the bubbles can last.
This looks like a lot of fun. I kind of want to try this. XD
Can you do this on a very foggy night in a well lit soccer field?
So b-beautiful... Sheds a tear*
Man, these are SOAP BUBBLES? That dude has got to be SO TINY! XD
It is sad how short the life span of a bubble is. We must not take them for granted anymore! I am going to walk across America to raise awareness so a cure can be found!
beautiful bubble, very very compliments
pretty awesome as always
Just goes to show, you don't have to be a kid to love bubbles.
that is the most amazing thing i have ever seen
Amazing! I loved watching that.
what's the recipe for the liquid that is used to generate to giant bubbles?
Check the video description for a link to the HowTo.
Did you shine colored lights on it, or was it just a yellow light?
ITS SO MAJESTIC!!!! WHAT DOES TO MEAN!!!
Cool experiment
The color phenomenon that is in the bubbles are called iridescence if you don't know
This is amazing.
