I always get him mixed up with the other actor who was in The Garry Shandling Show. He has that weird name which I cannot pull up right now. EDIT: I was thinking of Rip Torn. For some reason, I knew he was on that show with Garry Shandling and I couldn't place him with anything else although I knew he would pop in something from time to time. Was wondering why he wasn't credited on The Garry Shandling Show then discovered it was actually another show called Larry Sanders Show. So weird naming convention.
@byronic-heroine for sure, he's phenomenal. He's great at drama, but he's also a great comedic actor. There aren't a ton of actors that can do both at such a high level like he does.
Another actor who's great at both comedy and drama is one of Stephen Root's co-stars on 'King of the Hill' Toby Huss. He's VERY underrated, but enhances EVERY scene he's in.
Stephen Root is the man. When he goes full berserker in Dodge Ball is one of my favorite scenes ever. Me and my brother were crying. Had to pause it. Still get chills even after watching it 10 times. Always happy at the start and credits come and there's Stephen Root.
Unfortunately, there are people who don't get the reference, so it's hard to walk around muttering things to yourself about "blowing up the building" without HR getting involved...
Always loved Stephen Root's acting. Been aware of him since the 90s. He has a very relaxed, Spencer Tracy-ish quality that is pretty unique. Glad to see him finally getting some well-deserved recognition. And also glad to see that Kevin is whipping him into shape.
He's awesome man, everything Steven Root is in he fuckin kills it. Office Space and King of The Hill will always be my favorites but recently I saw the balled of buster Scruggs and he was excellent in that. He also did a great job in True Blood, very different role for him.
I remember the first few times I saw him in small roles in TV episodes here and there. Like, hey, it's him again! Have always been happy to watch his career take off and grow. I mean, what an actor, what a screen presence.
Favorite line of Stephen Root is from Boardwalk Empire, “Your shoe lace is disabled.”. Southern accent and wonky eye… I know, obscure, but he was so f’ing awesome. Had to rewind & watch it a few times.
Oh man so psyched to see you with Root! BTW, it was awesome to see you again in CO after 10 years or so. Friday 915 Estes, I was the guy up front who knew the movie was Roxanne lol
This is a very timely video, as Ive been binging NewsRadio for the past week! Stephen Root is AMAZING!!! Love everything he does!! His role in O Brother Where Art Thou is small but very memorable!
Yes! Dude. He is one of my absolute favourite actors. He can play all characters and he comes across as a smart man, that calls it the way he sees it. But don’t ever take his stapler
Thank you! Root is my favourite American actor and like you I'll watch whatever he's in. I first saw him on News Radio where he became my favourite character.
You and Stephen looked like you were hiking in front of a painting. The scenery and the cloud cover were so moody, especially towards the end. Great hike!
Holy crap! I just watched Nick Offerman… and now this! I met Stephen Root in Feb 2007/2008 at a charity event along with his then Fiancé, now wife Romy. Just flat out great people. Hung out and talked for an hour or so as he introduced me to a few of his friends. Love Stephens work. Great, great guy.
For me, only one character actor surpasses Root in overall brilliance in his/her roles: the late and great Strother Martin. I imagine if they ever met they'd become fast friends and kindred spirits...they both express such sensitivity and humor toward the human condition...simply utter delights...
I loved him as the principal in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. "I saw a lot of action in NAM..... well, I saw Plattoon" and the scene where he asked Buffy if she was doing drugs and he described his first time on acid.
Was just watching this guy’s work the other day. Loved the movie! Can’t remember the name, darn it. Played it straight-laced that time. Another thing to mention is lthat I love all the bikes and dogs segway shots. So cute. Going to use that style for a project I m working on. Thanks for that! Love listening to people who are my age range talk about the good old days. Thanks for that too. LOL sounds like a couple of old guys like me!
Such an extremely talented and amazing actor, I've never seen him not hit it out the park. Can't believe I am the only one I've seen here mentioning his performance in "Man in the High Castle." Deep, dark, brooding, desperate, he was superb. Truly an incredible talent.
Such a small world sometimes.. For instance, here I'm watching this, but only just yesterday, I quoted Stephen's line from Office Space to a coworker while talking about my stapler they were using. And that movie itself, Office Space, was filmed just 2 miles from where I was living back during that time.
Stephen Root is such a good actor he doesn't get recognized in roles. I didn't recognize him in Office Space. Didn't recognize his voice in King of the Hill. I saw him in Barry and he was amazing.
Absolute legend of an actor Stephen Root is. I could listen to these two go on for hours. Just really great. Thanks so much for interviewing the outstanding Mr Root! 🫚 Cheers
Yes, very talented. I know him from everything Kevin did not mention. He was great in Man from the High Castle, True Blood, and especially Office Space
Stephen is an absolute legend of an actor. And holy moly 71 years old and doing incredible. He could pass for 58.
71, no kidding? Then I agree, I wouldn't have guessed any more than early 60's. I hope thats because he's a happy guy.
@@PoeticallyTwizted beards hide gravity face
@@Bifocoloco Shiiit, whatever works. 🤙🏽
I agree. He doesnt look 57.
Omg he's 71?? Yeah I thought maybe 60s at most.
One of those actors that makes anything a thousand times better just by being in it.
I always get him mixed up with the other actor who was in The Garry Shandling Show. He has that weird name which I cannot pull up right now.

Root is a scene stealer in everything he does, really strong energy
Stephen Root is a legend. Even on News Radio he stole every scene, no small feat on a stage with Phil Hartman, Dave Foley, and Andy Dick.
Everyone on that show was fantastic .
Lots of short people on that show.
Stephen Root’s performance in Barry is one of my favorite character’s ever. So good
I liked the way they ended Fuches’ story. Subtle, but strong. Fun psycho character.
@@MrBuketman absolutely totally agree
Agreed. He's amazing in King of the Hill too. Overall just a really underrated actor imo
Incredible transformations he puts that character through.
Stephen Root is the man.
When he goes full berserker in Dodge Ball is one of my favorite scenes ever. Me and my brother were crying. Had to pause it. Still get chills even after watching it 10 times. Always happy at the start and credits come and there's Stephen Root.
L for Love!
Love him in Office Space! We often quote his lines from that movie.
Milton is one of the best characters anyone has ever created. He stole every scene like a puppy, or child. Unforgettable.
I was so hoping that he was going to do Milton's voice
Unfortunately, there are people who don't get the reference, so it's hard to walk around muttering things to yourself about "blowing up the building" without HR getting involved...

Great to see Stephen Root. What a character he plays on Barry! Oh, and his voice overs, glad to hear King of the Hill is getting rebooted!
I love Stephen! He's so great! I still hold his role in Office Space as my all-time favorite of his! Fun hike! Thanks, Kevin!😄
OK, but that's the last straw.
🙃
I can’t put into words how much this man has entertained me throughout my life even when I didn’t realize it was him. He’s amazing.
Giving the guests hats with "Hiking With Kevin" logos on the inside is sheer genius.
Who's gonna turn down a free hat?
No one, that's who.
One of my all-time favorite character actors. Great in everything, and very funny.
Barry is such a great show, it sucks that it's over. Stephen Root can do anything in front of a camera.
Love the Root man! 💕🤙 Beautiful hike yall took there
I also will watch anything that he's in. Comedy, drama, nice guy, villain. He's a national treasure.
I just adore Mr Root. Sometimes I just cannot believe how terrific he is on screen and stage. Thanks for sharing this hike with us!
Kevin you are such a comic genius. You rope us in with these tales and then tell absurd punchlines. Thank you for these!
I still watch old episodes of News Radio and LOVE Jimmy James! Stephen is a Legend!
Love Stephen Root. He's great in every project I've seen him in, across all genres. What a treasure.
He did a great part as bank manger in Seinfeld. Krammer: "Nice desk is that oak? Root: "No, I think it's pine"
Huge Stephen Root fan for years and years...we are same generation. I marvel at his acting. For me, HE is the star of every movie he is in. 🧡⭐
That was great. So funny to hear Bill again
Root visited our High School in 96 to talk acting. What a career since. So talented. ❤
What a treat
How cool!!
This was awesome, I love Stephen Root! My favorite role he did was in Office Space
Kevin, please come to Seattle!
YOU WERE A GREAT KLINGON, STEVE! I MISS WEEKEND UPDATE WITH YOU, KEVIN...NEXT BEST THING TO CHEVY WHEN YOU DID IT ! : )
I'm so glad you discussed NewsRadio!!! We love you Bill McNeil!
I always enjoy when he just shows up in a show or movie I'm watching...him and Toby Huss.
Root is brilliant. From News Radio on he always delivers the goods in every role.
One of the greatest character actors of all time.
He's awesome man, everything Steven Root is in he fuckin kills it. Office Space and King of The Hill will always be my favorites but recently I saw the balled of buster Scruggs and he was excellent in that. He also did a great job in True Blood, very different role for him.
Love it!!! Stephen Root is sublime in all respects ❤
I’m with you on the whistling. I like to whistle but no one else appreciates it😂
Two of my favorite creatives !
Office Space and Barry are divergent and fantastic, but he'll always be Bill Dauterive to me
I remember the first few times I saw him in small roles in TV episodes here and there. Like, hey, it's him again! Have always been happy to watch his career take off and grow. I mean, what an actor, what a screen presence.

I LOVE your hikes, Kevin!!! Stephen Root is awesome in the movies, how nice to enjoy a walk & talk & laugh between ya. !!! Thanks Gents!!
Great hike, love Steven Root and what a great sense of humor.
Stephen Root is one the best actors of our generation! Always recreates himself into engaging and unique characters. Thanks Kevin, 🇨🇦❤️
I'm 58, & don't think I'm the same generation as Root. 😬
Thank you! Root is my favourite American actor and like you I'll watch whatever he's in. I first saw him on News Radio where he became my favourite character.
I just found this sub and I had no idea how badly I needed it.
Love this actor. Always thrilled to see him show up in movies and shows I watch.
Beautiful clouds and sky this day! And HAPPY TRAILS to you Kevin!
Thanks Kevin for another great hike. Love your guests and laidback interviews..so casual and honest.
You and Stephen looked like you were hiking in front of a painting. The scenery and the cloud cover were so moody, especially towards the end. Great hike!
2:25 William Fontaine de la Tour Dauterive 😂
Went from stapler stealing to being a prison boss that got out and lived that soprano life. Minus dying
Also Bill from koth
Seen this fellow for decades and not known his name. That was terrific.
OMG I Freaking LOVE Stephen Root! Thanks Kevin
ive been a big stephen root fan since news radio. one of my favorite actors.

BTW go back and watch News Radio Negotiation - Jimmy James dating. Hilarious.

Really good conversation, I love this interview format, Kevin!
What a great hike Kevin! Stephen is awesome and I think he’s been just about everything.
Nice to see Stephen Root is still among the living with so many celebs seem to be checking out lately.
Loved him since his days on NEWS RADIO. On my top 5 of my favorite shows.
Loved him in Get Out and ofcourse, William Fontaine de La Tour Dauterive!!
Incredible, I'm just on my first watch-through of King of the Hill.
I bet everyone steals this guy's stapler.
I bet he burns their buildings down.
As much smiles he's given me over the yearsv
Yes, the red Swingline.
😂
So many good roles.... I like his Bill from King of the hill. Soon to be back I hear
I loved him as the principal in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. "I saw a lot of action in NAM..... well, I saw Plattoon" and the scene where he asked Buffy if she was doing drugs and he described his first time on acid.
Just amazing. Thank you both for the supreme content!
Since Office Space. Oh, how I remember. Saw it first run in the theater even. I have a red stapler now too...
Ok, but if they take my stapler again … I’m gonna set the building on fire 🔥
- Stephen Root, in Office Space
Omg I never realiised he was in office space! He is so great in that!!!!
Kevin, I'm so glad you are not dead!
Very memorable actor. Good one.
this is so wonderful. Great hike!
Wow never realized he was Dale. He killed that roll and his roll in Barry.
After what they did to him at Initech, he deserves that Swingline. I always like watching a movie and coming across Stephen Root. Something about it.
Another great hike Kevin! Thank you!
Good Afternoon Kevin, So Nice To See You Again.

Thank you for your work.
How did I never tie Stephen Root's voice to Bill Dauterive!? Love this guy
Stephen Root is super neat human. Incredibly talented. If he is in the show, it is going to be worth my time.
That was a really nice one, thanks!
H the best. He always knocks it out of the park. Well done, Kevin. Be well.
Stephen Root is great in every role I have ever seen him in.
Thank you Kevin!
Root is seriously a talented actor and makes whatever role he’s in superb. Every movie is better if he’s in it.
Awesome another Barry actor!
great episode keep it up!!!
Mr. Kevin,
I like the venue of your interviews.
Cheers Jeff
P.S. you may invite me on one!
Two of my favorites.. and Nealon. Jkidding ❤u both. I’m assuming you both finished your soup before you put on those hats.
LOVE Stephen....such a group of quirky characters that he's portrayed. Fuches is amazing on Barry

Stephan Root is one of the greats! He's fabulous in Barry last season is really good.
Stephen Root is ever so layered in his art and likely heart. Would love to work with him someday.
D.A.
Love that he did Bill's voice lmaooooo
Newsradio is the best show from the 90s
From Mr Jimmy James to Fiches I've been a fan of everything this dude has been in.
Absolute legend of an actor Stephen Root is. I could listen to these two go on for hours. Just really great. Thanks so much for interviewing the outstanding Mr Root! 🫚 Cheers
Newsradio was hilarious
Yes, very talented. I know him from everything Kevin did not mention. He was great in Man from the High Castle, True Blood, and especially Office Space
