- the Spartan k-bar is a labor of love Curtis iovito and his team have put out a masterpiece in my opinion the original k-bar platform done in Magna cut! I am a huge fan of both k bar and Spartan blades so this for me is a dream come true to be able to test it I've got to shout out my brother from another mother JR for making this happen now on to the video!!
SPARTAN KA-BAR
spartanbladesu...
The blade shape is always good looking, but why did they keep so close to the original. And THANK YOU for saying "utility". That's what the knife is literally from KA-BAR. People are just so brainwashed, not from KA-BAR, but from regular people who don't know what they're talking about
Brother you know what's going to happen I'm going to get GI Joe want to be on here talking about it not supposed to be used for that you know it as well as I do dude lol. I think I'm going to do kind of combat you totally knives all week which is perfect and we both know why
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors I'm going to pull that little blade with the file on it from my toenail clippers and tie it to a stick just to get people asking if its good for self defense. Haha
See the problem was Marines ceebees come home I went into combat with that kabar OK he did .but poll back then had no idea what a combat knife was they had to get a lot of blades out in a hurry so boom combat uitliy was born niow we knits only a utiliy but then it was their combat knive ? Now that Spartan I hope uped the game and put at least a bar tang n it
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoorsheyyy Scabber, you know what would be a knockout of a video is the Spartan KaBar VS. FOBOS tier1 head to head!!! Both have same intended uses and use the same blade steel but really two totally different style of knives... Definately be a great video for sure brother
Scab, Appreciate the post! Thank you 🙏🏼 The tang and guard are made of 300 series stainless steel. Also, we worked with Bob Skibitski at Crucible who provides us with heat treatment guidance. Larrin actually worked with Crucible on the steel 👍
Scab you did a stellar job on this demonstration on such a fantastic knife and colab with Spartan & Kabar...the highlight for me is the amazing contribution by JR to the knife community, JR we truly thank you and appreciate you my friend, so enjoyed seeing this knife in action👊👊👊👊👏👏👏
Thank you my brother! Yessir JR makes this thing go around lol
Glad to see this one. After everything else, I still like the original Ka-Bar. Its cool to see someone take the design and bring it more into the 21st Century. Well done, both on the knife and the overall review.
Thank you my brother! There is some slight differences in the clip point part but I think overall the difference is the steel I think this one will last a lifetime it stayed sharp as s*** all I've got to do is a little stropping and it'll be right back
Top notch use video for the knife. I actually was glad to see/hear it took a simple strop to bring that edge back. Thanks Scab.
Yeah brother it wslked it right back I was very impressed with that
I love KaBar's and collect them, so I HAD to buy one. I got the black bladed one. LOVE it!!
Man I am a monster fan of this thing I love kabars anyway personally but this thing is next level
Great Job on the video man! I think this one will get a good bit of attention. A lot of folks can appreciate a classic Kabar. Especially one made with newer materials!
BOBBBBBYYYYY!! WHAT IS UP MY BROTHER!!
Ka-Bar is an iconic knife everybody knows and when this one was available I had to get it and Spartan doing it should make it a winner. Hackberry I think is the tree you have cut a ton of. This knife looks better now than it did when I sent it to you it was built to be used. I do have a few knives that haven't been used for either sentimental reasons or due to the craftsmanship and materials used to make the knife and it's more art to me and they cost me a kidney. Great review Brother you never let us down hope you get a ton of views on this review it deserves it.
Hackberry!!!!! Yes thank you!!!
Thank you my brother 🙏 I'm growing a collection of knives I don't want to use either LOL I'll tell you the truth man my Hornbeak knives I do not want to use in their badass. I'm going to collab with him on something that looks half s***** LOL so I can use it
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors I'm sure it will be better than that can't wait to see what you came up with.
JR, BESIDES THE GREAT JOB BY SCAB ON THIS, THE BEAUTY OF CRAFTMENSHIP BY SPARTAN, YOU ARE TRUELY AN AMAZING GUY IN THIS COMMUNITY AND WE ARE SO APPRECIATIVE FOR YOUR CONSTANT CONTRIBUTIONS FOR WHAT YOU BRING TO US, BLESS YOU MY FRIEND
@@JoeSteel1 Thanks Joe I just send knives you guys do all the work. Thanks for the compliment ☺
I love the KABAR as well, and this is a fine rendition of it!
Agreed man!!😊

Awesome blade and review , thanks for sharing , God bless brother ! #22aday #22adaynomore
Happy Father's Day brother! Thank you
Feel better after seeing this video. Bought one in the black magnacut, then saw Dutch bushcraft boys break it and were super disappointed they didn't beef up the tang. Definitely feel wayyy better! Thanks bro, just found your channel and looking forward to checking out more videos!
Hey I appreciate that man! I try to keep everything in the realm of reality when it comes to use. I also HIGHLY advocate watching different videos before purchasing! DBK has a great channel!
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors I usually do lol. But regardless it's a really nice knife and almost like heirloom kind of thing. I hundreds of knives so it's hard to use them all, but I look forward to trying lol.
Thanks for the review, Scab. Always love a KaBar!
Thank you my brother and likewise!!
I would really love one of these K bar knives, BUT, I have watched the 2 Dutch guys on their channel "Dutch Bushcraft Knives" and they are battoning with it and the handle breaks at the the point of the tang. I believe this is a design fault I was always told that the angle from the top of the blade and tang should NEVER be a simple 90 degrees, but should have a curve which gives it more strength. SO, is this knife truly robust enough or did these Dutch guys just get a bad one???????????
@@kruger-3522 depends on what you're going to use it for it is a cutting tool and I put it through everything that I normally do I have used it a bunch. Here's my advice to you is I wouldn't buy anything based on any knife reviewer myself included
As a former Navy Corpsman who served with the Marines I will always have a special place in my heart for a Kabar but, it(Spartan Blades Kabar) still has the same fatal flaw as the originals. The handle transition will always be the Achilles heal of the knife.
REALLY Nice Knife!! I have Emailed John Stitt and he got back to me... I had Emailed him about the State & Union Knife. It is a Full Ti Folder that I was trying to tell him about... Id love to be there when you spoeak to him... Very nice Guy!
Absolutely brother! We should have him on in the next cpl weeks for sure
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors AWESOME! Thank you
Great looking knife! One of my favorite designs!!
Love it brother
Everybody needs one.
Facts
better two. If the thing breaks, at least there's one in reserve
Thank you brother I watched the video I asked to soon I jumped the gun that’s a iconic knife 🔪
Lol all good homie
Very cool, brother!
Hey brother I hope you're having an awesome day!
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors Thanks, Big Dawg! Better than I deserve. I hope you are, too!
It’s awesome that Spartan is kind of revamping Kabar. I hope they redo the Becker line. A BK7 in CPM3V or 52100 or 80CRV2 would amazing
That would be dope!!
But Scab, thats not meant for.....lol I'll be your huckleberry...:)) I'm gonna say its prob a stick tang. and works just fine on the original Ka-bar. I have one i haven’t used in so long..theres no excuse so Ill take it out soon. Used it mostly when i had to dig in the dirt. I'm sure i have some neighbors that need their tires cut from the rims, lol
This one being in MAGNACUT is probably going to be a little stronger this one held up insanely well and I'm thinking the strength actually comes from the MAGNACUT and the correct
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors heatreat! Yes. Its prob a lot stronger!
thanks for saying ---- is the tang thicker/larger than the standard kabar rat tail tang?
Absolutely no idea that's why I addressed it in the video
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors thanks for saying
Been looking forward to this for so long, thanks so much!
Man this was a great one I love this knife
Hey Scab that is truly a very nice combat utility blade. Very very nice and not being a knife nerd Magnacut sounds great. Looks sharp as. Also doubles as a great hunting and utility knife. Thanks Brother 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Man honestly I am a huge fan of Magnacut! When it's done well it absolutely amazing! Have a great week brother
I saw an instagram photo of this blade. It shows a partial tang that runs the the length of handle.
Appreciate it! It held up insanely well then
The 90 degree cut on the tang is a failure point.
OOOOOH! I could handle one of these. And, any knife which holds up to your tests will hold up. I have tried to chop with a few knives this size, including a couple of KaBars and Marine Knives from other manufacturers. Only would I do that in desperate situations! This looked superior in chopping to the 1095 blades! Carry on, good video!
Many thanks my brother and thank you for the vote of confidence
Great video sweets!!
Thank you BAMBINO
That's what I call a knife Scab.
I'm in agreement brother
You'll sound exactly like that!! 💯 😂 Great knife!! By Great people!! 👊🏼
Lmao 🤣
It's a field knife, therefore it does fieldcraft-which is what we called it (sometimes) before somebody decided to create the name "bushcraft," then others corrupted it further for monetary gain and now call it "bushcraft survival."
Yea, I am not a fan of the USMC Combat Knife but that doesn't mean it isn't a workhorse or suitable as a field knife same as the Glock or a million others!
Gets it done for sure. The subjectivity of knives is what drives this whole community! Have a kick ass week brother
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors you as well! I need to go back and rewatch your knife design video to check the parameters, I am.considering just sending a couple designs-I just need some half inch grid paper.
@@turtlewolfpack6061 I am still working on that I've decided probably this next Saturday to put out a video and kind of incapsulate everything so stay tuned
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors 👍
For some reason I've had this knife (the generic one) on multiple wish lists for years but haven't bought one yet. Seeing this one work so well has remotivated me. I need one in the collection!
Man I have always loved this blade style! Spartan took it to another level!!
PLEASE look up the Schrade SCHF2. It's an absolute anomaly for the brand. But it genuinely outperforms every Kabar I own. Even my Big Brother, Mark 2, and Modified Tanto can't beat it.
Aight bet.. I'm on it
Damn fine blade.
Agreed man
Top Notch Demonstration. Dude I’m beyond excited about this. We have asked for the U.S.M.C in a modern super steel and Kabar produced it! This is many peoples dream come true. It’s like taking a badass old school car and upgrading the gauges, suspension, and steering with modern components. JR is the man! Thanks for the awesome video Brother!🔥🔪👊
Most appreciative my brother! I'm loving the upgrades really really tough blade!!
So glad you aren't among the many latte soy boys who polish their knife for 5 minutes after cutting vacuum sealed 550 para, keep up the use; much love brotha man
Lmao 🤣🤣 yeah I don't think I'm in that group bud I appreciate you!
Dang that looks cool brother.
I'ma monster fan of it man
I love Kabar, these are great knives. I would love a Kabar Big Brother with a 12inch blade, that would be fantastic : ) Your videos are the best because you show the quality of the products. That's very valuable for people. We wish you a great day. Best wishes from your fans in switzerland.
That Ka-Bar big brother is absolutely phenomenal man I think you would love it!
Excellent knife, bro!
that makes me want one my Brother...much love to you and Megatron
Much love in return brother
I miss my old Ka-bar
Cant seem to find one quite like it anymore
OK, sold ! I'm ordering one next week !👍
It’s beautiful what kind of steel is it?
Magnacut
I MUST have one!!! Totally badass.
Personally I'm a big fan of it. And it it held up to everything that I needed it to do
Most people don't understand that, they think "military grade" is better quality, it's not. It is anough quality for the money, so it holds up and doesn't fall apart. And let's face it, it's disposable if it gets missing, or you get killed. Sad but true. So, that's why I think it's a great idea Spartan does different pricepoints.
Good points brother
I am a retired U.S. Marine with 30+ years active duty. The Spartan Blade and KA-BAR collaboration is a dream come true. It’s the same field utility and combat knife as all predecessors since WWII, but with Magnacut and Kraton handle with blade coating. I cannot tell you how pleased I am to own the knife with both the leather and Kydex sheaths.
If you value the KA-BAR, you need to obtain the Spartan Blade Magnacut version.
S/Fi
It's dope for self defense. Just not for hard use like batoning (See Dutch Bush Craft Knives video). It turned into a $ 300+ ferro rod scraper at the end of the video.
Ka-Bar knives have lasted this long because the design lends itself well for multiple purposes/utility work.
And this Spartan version is the best design that I have seen! (Albeit I am not a fan of rat tail tangs
Typically I'm not either but I think with the steel and the heat treat this one's going to hold in there really really well
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors
No matter if it isn't a full tang, I still like the knife!
Great video and sweet blade brother!
Thank you my brother
Hey Scab happy Fathers day to you,
what do you think of zombie tools. they look pretty apocalypse proof and have some interesting designs
seems like you
Man I think a lot of their stuff is dope I'd like to get my hands on some of it I've always been pretty impressed with their stuff
They put out a picture on Instagram with the knife blank once, the tang is similar to that of the standard Kabar(both are rat tail tang), with the difference being the width of the tang on the Spartan Kabar is the same all way to the butt cap, where the standard Kabar, the part where goes into the but cap it becomes only about quarter of an inch wide.
Thank you sir
I'm curious how it compares to Hinderer's version of Kabar knife
Me too!!
Did they improve the tang? is it still a rat tail or full tang I love the kabar but needed an improvement.
They thickened it up for sure not sure how much but I know there's a noticeable difference in this knife
No they did not. DBK Broke it.
@@noctis120 appreciate the clarification. I must have mis heard Curtis during the interview
I think the only way around that is to split the handle make full tang and bolt the handle together I like the material and the design but the tang really needs to be improved.
@@jhonrutger3508 I agree
Old school cool, new materials. Very good ⚔️
That's a fact brother!!!
Mate. You really inspire me, to buy this knife! Is it much better, than the Ka-Bar Extreme D2? I love my Extreme D2. Best wishes Günni from germany
KABAR! My man!
YESSSSSIRR
Great looking knife a classic for sure. Great upgrade to Magnacut.
Agreed man 100 percent
Great review.
Now have to get one.
The edge and sharpness is absolutely on par with original high quality Japanese Katana.
As infantry soldier I carried rhe original Kbar Tanto knife.
Still have it and it still functions as day i got it.
Steel was not the greatest than this one looks much better and steel has gotten better uaed to make them.
The tang will break, if is a flaw in design. The 90 degree angle creates a failure point. It is sad that such a expensive knife has such a cheap defect.
Absolute hard Test, the only way to See how good this knife is in realaty 👍🏻 Thank you for this amazing Video🔪✌️ Harry
Most appreciative my friend!
Views are looking good for just 20hrs. I'm watching it again in HD when you first upload it you can only watch it in 360p
I'll tell you something crazy man I never watch it the first day for whatever reason right after I uploaded it skips it does all that on my end I hope it doesn't do that to everybody but it's a pain in the ass for me that first day
Have you tested the spartan ronin shinto ????
It's a rat tell. It is thicker then original kbar. I called sparten about knife few weeks ago
Thank you sir
Look light, strong and tight. Also clean and easy to maintain....perfect for fishing expedition....currently i,m fishing a lot by night, on river sand/gravel bank, with a harpoon and a light....you wouldnt beleive how horrible are those monster that showed offf. So yes, something similar to that knife is a must....if i could move to your area, i really like the climate and fauna....put some fish on those stick you were cutting at the beginning! Then get into a fight with the first predator who show off 😆 peace, Simon from Canada.
I agree brother it is absolutely phenomenal! We got plenty of room in Florida whenever you ready to move down
Incredible knife, much better than the original!
I have a really cool piece of Trivia for you! Do you know what Ka-Bar actually means? because it does mean something!
At the beginning good Ol Scab has at least 4 blades the Spartan Ka-Bar in hand and 3 in his pocket. Good demonstration as Always Scab and, if i recall correctly from the blade talk don't Spartan Blades use PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) for their blade coating? There ain't no way in hell that is flaking off as it is bonded to the surface of the steel at a molecular level. So I fully agree with you if it flakes off it ain't a real Spartan Blades knife.
There is the PVD and then there is this coating both are absolutely bulletproof
I'm a veteran and I always thought all Ka-bars are full tanged
No they should be though
First on deck
Lightning McQueen son
Jerbs you're always first on deck 😁!!!
@JR-wg1lj lmao yessssirrrr that's a fact
@@JR-5465 I support the real ones for sure! Happy father's day to you Mr.JR 🇺🇸🔥🔪🔥🇨🇦👍🏻

Most likely, it’s a rat tail tang
I’d never buy another ka bar after mine snapped about 7 years ago. It snapped in two were the tang meets the handle. I thought I had caused it by miss using it batoning until I’ve seen a few other videos of people snapping them in exactly the same place. Shame coz I loved that knife it’s pretty iconic. Watch “Dutch bushcraft knives” channel the video is “Americas most famous knife got a super steel”.
that thing is SHARP......
Super sharp n stout knife going through a tire like that... but ain't no 90# weakling ever ripping through a tire like that either.
Dbk broke theirs right at the tang.
I heard
plus added some more comments if it helps
Brother it always helps! And I'm serious thank you for letting me check it out man I love this damn thing
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors Brother id send you any knife I have. There are a couple id ask you not to use just to show but id send them if you wanted to see them. Glad you enjoyed testing it out. I've been waiting a long time to land the Ka-Bar I actually wanted. Spartan nailed it. I would have loved to get the one Rick built but at twice the price I'm glad I missed the boat on it and this one was worth the weight.
@@JR-5465 honestly brother I think you got the best available choice nothing against Rick or anybody else but these guys just crushed it
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors I think you are right this would be hard to beat even at the same price but at double the price, you gotta give the win to Spartan on this one. and I have a few hundred bucks in my pocket for the next knife.
I'm not impressed with Spartan letting harsey keep adding a new blade to the difensa handle!!! Makes my expensive difensa feel cheap garage shop cheap!⁶
2nd Amendment was written for a good reason. IMHO, the founders meant for it to cover ALL manner of arms. Why? The security of a free state, by a well regulated militia.
Security of a free state is threatened when the people, themselves, feel threatened by the state or the Union as a whole. If one man's freedom is threatened, the freedom of his family, friends and community is threatened also. Therefore the whole of his group would be right to pettition neighboring communities and beyond to elect to stand together against the threat.
To be well regulated is to be well disciplined. Possessing great restraint and moral character so as not to abuse such privileges.
Imho, public education corrupt politicians and a warped society have done much to rip the nation apart.
As if it were the Titanic, and all one can do is wait and watch it go down.
