    I put a set of AMP BOARDS on my 2012 GMC and they worked great. I heard a rattle on my way to Virginia from Texas last week and found my driver side pin/bushing wore out. I cleaned and lubed them regular but using the driver side the most wore them out. I dont see that the bushings are replaceable so ill have to bore the wore out bracket and fabricate a bushing. Lucky I have a machine shop and some oil impregnated brass to rebuild the part. 11 years and 170K miles aint bad.

      Where do u put the jack after installing these? If someone accidentally places the lift under these steps, and lifts the vehicles up for service will it hold the body weight and still function normally?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  4 місяці тому

      @@anan7s294 The jack should only be put on the frame. If you lift from the boards they will not hold the weight and will damage them and the truck. If someone attempts to lift from the board and not the frame they should not be allowed to work on any vehicle ever again.

    Great video btw ! Actually the best ive seen yet . Which ive been all over the net . Got everything tied in and my triggers for doors still do not work . I thought i was gonna help myself out in that croutched position under divrside of trk so i fired my trk up and turned ac wide open to do the butt on splices on bcm side . BIG mistake i believe . Unit still does not work . Im going back and rechecking my color wires and to make sure the stab butt splce connectors r makin connection . One thing to mention w problems . The purple wires solid n blk striped are for either side of doors . Grounding either out will bypass obd2 connector and easily be a test for either side enabling up/down steps . Ive had nothing but trouble w these steps . Amazon sold a set that said it was for my trk and it wasnt . Took back off to send back . The only real difference was the stabs on obd2 dongle and had 4 wires . Purple solid ,purple blk striped, blue , white . Everything in your video (fuse bloks) etc matched the look of my trk . 2022 silvrado 1500 duramax 3.0 diesel small gurl monster . Just felt like i could add a tad to your video . Also amp reps said that most of the time its loose connections in the brain module , loose connection on the stab butt splices that they see a ton of problems when troubleshooting w custs .

      Yeah that is some good info. Unfortunately since Real Truck took over amp and they moved where they are manufactured. I have been seeing a bunch of silly issues. Like the pins are that not seated in the connector. I spent like an hour and a half going through every pin on a harness with their customer service rep. (who might I add was a rockstar for staying on the phone with me till we solved the intermittent issue.) Also I know there have been only 2 amp techs/ reps, so huge props to those guys. But yeah unfortunately QC at the factory has gone down hill since the takeover.

    Very nice job detailed and easy to follow. ? 4 U. I have a 2024 Chevy 3500; My OBD2 connector only has two wires coming out of it; one wire is all purple and the other one is purple with black stripe and I have those connected. Did the one you installed have the blue and white coming out or did you add those two wires to the OBD2? The steps do not currently work as the steps must need those two tapped wires with the blue and white wires to trigger the steps. Thoughts? Thanks!

      They came as a part of the step wiring. As for adding them I wouldn't know where to begin. What I would do is reach out to customer service and double check the steps are correct.

      Did you just cut those wires and splice with OBD wires? Or did you cut them and have to splice in the original wire in addition to the obd wire?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  4 місяці тому +1

      @@jeremyjones214 There is no cutting of any factory wires. The only wires you might trim up are the purple ones that run from the step's wiring harness to the obd2 plug that comes with the amp boards. You can see these purple wires at 8:14 in the video. As for the BCM they supply wire taps that you can see at 7:54 in the video.

    Hey just installed my boards on a 24 Sierra 2500 and a little curious about control module location. Did you mount your module or just let it sit down in the dead space between the air box and battery? I have 2 modules as I did the vision steps and they both fit there but no mounting as of yet and didn’t want them vibrating around possibly messing something up. Your video was a great confidence booster for this job, thank you.

      You can use that bar that runs across the battery to mount them. I have wedged them between the battery before and haven't had an issue. If you are concerned you could use a bit of foam or cloth the help them stay in place. or if you really wanted to 3m double sided tape.

    • @randy07rp
      @randy07rp Місяць тому +1

      Thank you for replying, I ended up zip tying them together and secured them to the bracket between the air box and the battery. Initially was going to use foam wedge then 3m but I spotted an opening in that bracket to keep them secure and out of the way from anything. Didn’t think of the bracket because I had it removed so I wasn’t even looking at it lol

    Question for you! 2023 suburban is very similar, with the 2024 suburban I just got while swapping from the 2023 the connector colors changed in the kick panel but, the same wires are still there. I’ve got everything all set up but they will not deploy. My worry is they changed colors of the wires I need to tap into and so far I can’t find any answers. Waiting to hear back from amp. For the dark grey connector and light green connector, do you recommend unplugging those from the panel before tapping into them? I assume the general wire routing from the battery / control module down to the motors is similar for the diesel 2500?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  10 місяців тому +1

      You can disconnect the plugs if needed. I would recommend that you disconnect the negative on the battery or batteries if its a diesel.
      As for the wire routing they do a pretty good job showing you in the instructions and if you fallow them you won't run into any length issues.
      Everything is done the same whether is it is a gas or diesel. In my video I was working on a diesel.

    I'm going to do my install on these tomorrow. I notice you didn't drill through the pinch weld for the LED lights. Any specific reason? I'd prefer not to drill holes in my brand new truck, so if there's a way to safely run the LED wiring over the pinch weld, can you comment on any prep you do to avoid the sharp edges that could damage the wire insulation?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  9 місяців тому +2

      I don't like to drill for the lights. I think it's unnecessary, gives it a place to rust and I have never had an issue with it going around the pinch weld like I did in the install. Just make sure that you clean the area you are going to stick the lights very well and firmly press them on. secure the wires so they are tight an you will be good. Been installing amp steps like this for a long time and never had them rubbing though the insulation.
      One thing to keep in mind is you will want to lube the joints on the steps every 6 months with WD40 or equivalent after getting them nice and clean. To keep them down just open a door, stand on them, then close the door while still on them. This will not hurt them. Lack of proper maintenance is the #1 issue I see with amp steps. Causes the motor to fail prematurely.
      I you have any questions on install comment on here and I will get back to you ASAP or Shoot me an email. It's under the links on our main UA-cam page. Hope the install goes smoothly.

      I believe the 2021 is strictly the OBD2 where as the 2024 needed the extra 2 wires running to the BCM due to something changing between the years. The reason I don't exactly know, my guess is it is grabbing signal for one set of doors at the OBD2 and the other set at the BCM. This is a guess....

    • @XtremeTruckAuto

      They should be lighting up when the door is open. I would check the small connector on the brain to see if it is a problem there. If not pull the fuse and see if that resets? Final I would call amp and see what they say.

    When my steps deploy I can hear the gears in the motors. Is this normal on the PowerStep XL? I have installed 2 sets before this (basic model steps) and they were super smooth. Sound is on both sides so I assume it's normal.

    • @XtremeTruckAuto

      With the amp step XL tend to be slightly louder when it come to the motor because of the linkages being mounted to the rocker bar instead of the rocker its self. This in turn allows for more sound to reverberate due to that bar. With that being said it shouldn't be a crazy amount louder.

Sometimes those barrel connectors and be finicky. Next I would check make sure the brain has good connection. Pull the fuse and disconnect the brain and plug it back in.

      You would have to find and cut
      emove the lights 12v wire form the factory harness completely build your own harness for the lights. This isn't hard because it just power and ground (I am assuming). The hard part would be finding the wire for the lights in the factory harness. Then just run that to the power source (a parking light or aux power) and add a fuse. If you wanted to you could also wire in a relay that way it is pulling power straight form the battery. The thing is those led lights are going to pull so little power I doubt a relay would be necessary but you will want to fuse them with a 5 ish amp fuse possibly a 7.5 amp fuse. Keep in mind that any warranty on the steps would be void. Dealers don't like you messing with factory things like steps. Keep in mind I have never done this to factory steps. So I would know were to look for the wire. But yes in theory it could be done.

      If you are sure you are getting signal for the BCM and from the purple and purple and black wire from the obd2, now it time to start making sure the pins are properly install in the harness. I would start would the brain. This the place they tell me to start looking for pinning issues. I had a set a week ago that the harness wasn't pinned properly. It does happen. I have noticed an up tick in issues since the change over. However Real Truck is aware and have been doing their best to fix the issues. If all else fails call the number on the instructions. That will get you to a tech support person for AMP. They are good helping find the issue. And will stay on the phone for a long time if needed. Hold times might be long due to there only being 2 tech but like I said earlier they are aware and are training more costumer service reps on the boards. If you have anymore issues/questions feel free to reach back out and I will do what I can to help.

      Just installed these on my truck and have the same issue. Did you get a resolution?

      @@TheStrgn8r Does your obd2 plug have the blue and white wire coming off of it? Also have you double checked to make sure that the wires are hooked up to the correct spot on the obd2? If yes to both I would check the to make sure the pins in the connectors are properly seated.

      @@XtremeTruckAuto Actually figured it out yesterday. The light green connector under the dash has 2 green and yellow wires. I originally tapped the wrong one. Switched to the other and all works properly. Thanks for the reply.

      @@TheStrgn8r Yeah, that seems to be the most common issue. TBH I did it my first time as well. Thanks for commenting and watching.

    What do you do when it says check engine light on that system 2024 with the system France steps because on my truck it shows check engine light after they did time steps what the blue wire connected to the green or gray wire check engine how do I reset the

      I would take it some where to see if the check engine is related to the steps. There is a good possibility it is because of the steps being wired into the BCM. I would go back if you had them installed at a business and have them look at it because it is their risibility to make sure the install is done correctly. If they are not willing to do that I would never go back... As for the wires I would hook them up exactly how I have them in the video if it is a Chevy 2500/3500. If you need more help comment again and I will do my best to help you. Once the issue is sorted a code reader is needed to reset the check engine light.

    How do you remove the connectors to gain easy access to the wires?

    • @XtremeTruckAuto
      @XtremeTruckAuto  4 місяці тому

      If you go disconnecting plugs from the BCM you will want to disconnect your battery. I believe there is a little tab that you will push towards the wire and you will pull the plug out. There might be a safety tab that needs to be pulled down to allow that tab to depress.

      It was so easy to wire with the connectors removed. Just pull the small tab out and squeeze the connector and it will come right out. I removed the negative battery terminal and no codes were thrown. Thank you for your video.

      Verify the YMM of you truck to make sure the boards are correct. Then at 6:50- 7:05 in the video I point at the plugs that I used. If the wiring is still not the same I would call their customer support. THE NUMBER IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. That is important because it will get you to amp costumer service not a Real Truck rep. They will be able to help you out. I know they are short staffed right now but they are good a telling you where you need to go next.

      My guess is you wires that you wired to the bcm are swapped.

    Did you come across the problem of only the rear doors working with the AMP steps? My front door will not activate these steps, but my back doors will.

      Yes, double check the wiring at the BCM. So far everyone who has posted in the comments about the same or similar issue have found that the wires where going to the correct color of wire but the wrong pin of the BCM connector.
