My wife has been bugging me to cut her hair for a couple of weeks. While I did not use your technique, yours came out looking so cute despite your hacking away with scissors, you gave me the confidence to give it a try. I'm still married. Thanks.
Coco Shin It came out great. I’d post a photo, but I don’t think she’d approve. It was quite nerve wracking. Without your video, I don’t think i would have ever worked up the courage. I watched a REALLY good long bob video but felt apprehensive, then I watched this hair murdering video that actually turned into a beautiful rebirth, and I'm confident to do it now. Thank you for sharing your oppsies with the world! Our mistakes really do serve a purpose!
This is an old hairdresser trick! And yes, it works.. we do it in the salon all the time. I just freshened up my cut yesterday. I use my fingers as a ponytail holder, and cut straight across. Re-comb, repeat, to clean up any straggly hairs missed the first time. My hair is 3c curly, so when it dries, it curls up and looks so cute! You did a really good job! When self- cutting the hair, always start small, cut less the first time. It's too easy to get carried away trying to perfect it. Thanks for the video!
Yeah I am also a trained HD and When I cut my own hair I always do the pony method first first then clean it up after with couple of mirrors etc. It’s not perfect but it’s good enough for me lol. I have not been game enough yet to go short like this video though ah I wish I could. I might do it one day, I have gone short before like shoulder length but not right at bottom of the nape.
If I saw someone do this in a salon I would walk out. You're supposed to be trained professionals, not relying on these techniques. This stuff is for people to do at home, for free. I would never pay a professional to do this.
Thank you! I think a pro might have done a better job in the back, but this will definitely do, especially in the days of zoom calls where you only have to look good from the front! 😂😅
I was cutting my own hair like this even before lockdowns. It started about 10 years ago when I was sick and bed bound. I didn't care what I looked like because I spent my life in bed, seeing no one. But I was happy with the way it turned out, so kept doing it even after I recovered. Yours looks great, why spend hundreds on something which only lasts a few weeks, when you can do it yourself for free.
Well I cut my hair. My husband actually cut the pony tail off, and evenly trimmed the bottom, I then angled up and cut layers, the end result actually came out good, I shocked myself. You put me at ease, and took my fear of trying it away. 😊💇♀️
You did it!! That's so cool that you made it work and your husband even helped! Thanks for your sweet comment. I hope you like the cut as much as I did! (Before I shaved it off!)
I just followed you and, was so amazed at the result's, I've been watching others but, not very confident. Yours was so so easy, and with curly hair, it doesn't make much of a difference if you cut uneven. The results was exactly what I wanted, I love it, that's all I can say. Thank you sooo much, you really made a difference in my life, love you so much
Just did this cut last night. I had long hair so I asked my hubby for help. He made me first sign a "don't hold me responsible" contract just incase (I'm not kidding)! He cut it with his clippers and I ladded some texture with my hair razor. Perfect cut since it's getting hot here in North Carolina. This is a great tutorial! 👍🏻
OMG! I just did it! Had my son cut because I was too nervous! It took him forever to get through my thick hair but it looks fantastic! Thanks for the lighthearted video!!
I’ve been cutting my hair for a couple of years now. It was short and layered and I just kept cutting the back till it was one length. Now every few months while it is still wet from the shower I take a couple of inches off. It works for me and I’ve saved a ton of money! Your hair turned out fine, thanks for sharing!

Hey! I just did this!! I was so nervous. I did exactly what you did, & then cut alittle & shaped it up where I thought was needed.. Its so choppy & pretty. (Keep in mind I had a bob style haircut short in back long in front already about 6 months ago it had just grown out not sure if this matters or not) i've actualy seen a professional salon stylist do it this way.. I guess its a short cut, so it does work!! Thank you for this video!! Your hair is gorgeous. It feels so good to get it off of my neck! To everyone thinking about doing this.. Go for it! It doesn't have to be perfect! It's almost 2021.. Haircuts these days are crazy, not even.. Celebrities are wearing their hair with one side longer than the other.. So it really doesn't matter.. What should matter is what you like! :) i will be cutting my hair myself from now on to save money! Also thinking about going to get my cosmetoligy lisence. Again, thanks for this. Hahaha it's so true that haircuts these days are crazy. It's so much more about how you feel than how you look, and it's great to take the scissors into your own hands, right? So glad you like the cut!
I just did it and love it! That moment before I took the first cut 😓. I've been cutting my own hair since last year, but it always took forever and I was just doing a straight cut, so it had no style compared to the a-line cuts I used to get. Cleanup was easy, so there's another bonus. I have a side part too, next time I might try cutting it with it parted on the side because with my straight hair the unevenness is more noticeable. Thank you for this video! The first one I watched sounded like she was a professional, so it didn't instill confidence for a diyer like me to be able to pull it off, but you did. Edit* on the side part unevenness, I may not have cut the ponytail straight enough. Now I'm noticing even when I part down the middle, one side is slightly longer. Next time I'll have my husband chop it off for me. Either way I'm still very happy with it, especially for my first time trying it this way. Thanks again 😊
I’m so glad it worked for you! For the record, I think that straight across bobs are really cute and stylish, and you can use this video to cut it like that. Just angle your cuts more level when you trim the front sections. It should still be pretty straight in the back, just with some layers. ❤️Good luck on your next trim!
I love your sense of humor and just "going with it" attitude... and when you wave at yourself, that's so cute-- thanks for your funny and informational video that encourages all of us to do the same. Wow this comment really filled my heart. Thank you for appreciating my content and making me feel seen! Sending some major gratitude and good vibes your way. 🙏❤️🙏
The cut you gave yourself is one I've been trying to have a professional cut on me for a long time- but they always go for too perfect and "done". I want CHOPPY (almost like a toddler went at it) and that's what you have, so I'm about to go for it! Mostly excited- squeee! Thanks for a real person video!
Last night, I did this to my quarantine hair, and I LOVE IT. My hair was shorter than yours - it was a grown-out pixie that was last cut in early March. Now, since cutting it, the back is layered and though the sides are shorter, it looks like a shaggy, texturized bob that comes down just below my ears on the sides. There's a little bit of wave in it and overall, I just love it. I will do this again, in about six months. THANK YOU.
I've been cutting my own hair for years. I find it comes out less choppy if you section it into smaller ponytails first. After cutting, I work on evening it out. Then I take super small scissors and do little vertical cuts to blend it more. Usually after washing and drying, there's a few pieces I have to fix. Then I'm all good for the next 6-8 weeks.
Here is a little easy way I do with Self Cutting my hair: - 1 --- Tie the hair in a pony tail. -2 -- Tie about another 2-3-4 mini pony tails adjusting to the thickness of your hair. -3- -- put a rubber band around each pony tail deciding on the lenght you want your hair . -4--- Start cutting each mini individual pony tail and voila ! perfect edges and length if you do it right. NOTE ----- When you put a pony tail together it is harder to cut all at once especially with a dull Sissors or thick hair. making a big pony tail then dividing it in mini ponytails gives you manageability. I have really long hair now so this is what I do. Using rubber bands do not slide like hair ties ,that is why I suggest rubber bands. Just my Humble Opinion. Cheers!
Lol kindred spirits! My last video making green bean casserole and mini pumpkin pies was made in a similar spirit. I hope you like this one! ua-cam.com/video/mnRuTyvhSCE/v-deo.html
WOW! That was awesome! You're a much better teacher than the "professional " tutors online! They are boring and make it too complicated. You made it ez pz! thank you for such a great tutorial 😉🤩😁
Wow, thank you! I taught myself from watching the pros on youtube, and I know what you mean. I'm really glad this one works for you. Thanks for watching!
Just finished doing this after following your video. I had an almost shoulder length bob. It’s now chin length. Glad you showed yourself cutting the elastic & still having your haircut turn out well. I didn’t freak out when I made a slip or two. I’m shocked at how even & straight this is. Thanks!
Thanks so much! That so great that you made it work! As I have done my hair over the years I have seen that I am just as likely to make a mistake in my hair than a lot of hairdressers I've seen over the years. It's empowering to take it into my own hands!
This is probably the best dyi short hair cutting video. I have shoulder length hair and did the pony on the top of my head cut. Omg I ended up with bangs in the back of my head😲🤣🤣🤣. Can’t wait to try yours!!
Omg noooo.... I have been thinking about doing a general video about ponytail haircuts because it's so easy for them to go wrong. I hope when you do my video it turns out better!!
I want to but I’m nervous. My mum hates short hair even tho she used to have it and I’m slowly working up the courage to cut it the way I want. I’m not 100% sure how to do it yet but I’m working up to it! Hair grows back. Slowly. But hair grows back over time so it’s not a big deal, not permanent, only for a year or so…
I followed the advice in your video and am so happy with my haircut. I'm also proud to be able to cut my own hair because I used to spend a lot of money on haircuts that I didn't love. This cut is just as good as anything I paid for, and it takes 5 minutes. Thank you Coco! You are so cool.
This video was exactly what I was looking for to cut my own long bob with layers, at home. Your hair looks great! Thanks so much for recording and posting.
I cut my hair drastically during lockdown, following a video..i figured no one would see me so it wouldnt matter if i wrecked it a bit..cut in a fringe too...it looked better than any haircut id had in decades..and i'd had very few..i have psoriarisis, and ive been really leery of going to hairdressers for years..been hafl heartedly giving it the odd trim since, but this afternoon, ive followed your vid and cut a fair bit off. And like last time. it looks pretty good! i'll have another look for stray ends in the morning and give my fringe a trim then too..i really hope lockdown gave people more confidence in cutting their own hair! thank you!
For diy, you can get a sharpening stone, and sharpen your shears. Get a good pair of hair shears at a salon supply. They have a finger support which is very helpful. Helpful too is to give yourself an undercut to really style it . Am using a stone from family over 46 years old. ✂️
Hi!! I tried way to cut my hair, and it worked perfectly!!! The cut was kind of irregular but my hair is curly so it look so cool. Thank you from Mexico!!
Nov 10 2020 sitting outside looking at vids, angry at my hair. Medium short like yours. Stomped off into the house, hair into elastic, got barber scissors out and in a nanosecond had a perfectly great bob, not even needed wedging in front. I LOVE YOU. 🤩
Currently, my hair is a bit longer than shoulder length - and I'm absolutely bored of it. It's too messy and ugly and frizzy in the wrong places. I'm now decided to cut it like the first half of your video so please wish me luck 🙏🏻 My Mum will be so mad.
💀 That last part... Try the haircut! Have you looked into the curly girl method? A lot of people who think they have frizzy hair actually have wavy/curly hair that, when treated in just the right way, is completely stunning. Just a thought!
@@drakofletcher6289 did you do it? I want to cut mine short and my mom will too be really annoyed with me but if it turned out good for you and if you didn’t chicken out then I’m doing it. It’s not permanent and it will only be as short as it is for a little while but I’m nervous. I really want a mullet kind of thing going on but I’ll have no help and my mom will probably bury me six ft under but not like she can do anything about it. Well. Other than take my phone.
@@todorokisfavouriteobject9109 I cut it short around February a year ago and I've had it short ever since. When I followed her tutorial it turned out more of a bob haircut rather than a mullet (a bob is longer in front/shorter in back, mullet is longer in back/ shorter on top.) Ever since I've cut it I've kept cutting it impulsively out of anxiety... it became my coping mechanism lol. A month ago I said screw it and gave myself a wolf cut/mullet because the back was longer than front so i only had to cut on top. I absolutely adore how it looks. Obviously parents won't always agree with your decisions to try new things, but then again you always have to walk with a certain amount of confidence to rock a haircut like this :) GOOD LUCKK
I have been cutting my own hair for years now, I am a professional hairstylist, but that doesn't mean that I didn't screw up a bunch of times, I have pretty thick hair, it takes me a few days to cut it sometimes due to back problems, I've got it down now. You did a great job, just one suggestion....get sharper shears, Sally's sells decent inexpensive pairs, it will be easier to cut 😉.
Thanks for the tip! I tend to prefer to buy used items because it is more sustainable. Do you have any tips for sharpening the scissors I already have?
I cut mine, but I put about 8 small ponytails in, then cut under the band. Then I cleaned it up just using scissors and a couple of mirrors. It's getting a smidge long again, so I am going to try your method. Thanks for posting!
This is super cute and looks too easy. I do wish you would have shown the back of your hair a little more after you styled it. I may try this. I did the unicorn cut before with meh results.
This is brilliant! I tried it and I literally haven't felt this cute in years!!! :) Thanks! I seriously won't have a reason to ever pay for a haircut again, unless I insist on trying pixie cuts again.
Thank you so much. Honestly, I thought really hard about this and watched many tutorials before making this video. I hadn’t seen a really good bob tutorial before I made this one and I’m really glad it has helped so many people.
Thank you for this tutorial. I had long hair halfway down my back and I just got sick of trying to deal with it so I used this video and this technique to cut my hair. My hair is naturally curly so, it turned out great.
Good job! I pull my hair up over my head to cut. I have great layers when it's styled and I usually wear it up. I am growing out naturally and cutting the bleached part and using toner to balance color. By the time I'm done it will save me $$$$ annually in salons. And, I had three less than stellar experiences when trying to get the dark bleached by professionals, they only saw $ signs! You go girl!!!
Thank you!! Yes, pulling your hair above your head will give you great layers, but tying it low will give you a more straight across cut. Love that you do your own hair. It's awesome to get to take control of the scissors and save lots of money at the same time!
Even though you did a horrible job cutting a ponytail LOL! It came out very nice. I been wanting to try this, I’m building up the courage. Thanks for showing it styled, I would have been very disappointed if you didn’t show that.
Thanks for the video. I've been trimming my long hair like this for ages, but I use two bobbles and move the bottom one down to the length I want to cut ✂️it to - works a treat. I've now cut my hair to a short bob, so thanks for showing us how 😊
Looks great! I have been cutting my own hair! I just divide it and put it over my shoulders! I have good scissors! My hair is longer than yours! I may give the shorter style a go! I trim my fringe too! I also colour it myself!
Your so cute! Good job! I’m a barber and it is hard to cut your own hair but ya did good! For your first time! I think upfront just following right underyour jaw line would be perfect!

THANK YOU.
Love it!!! How cool is it to cut your hair yourself and have that kind of creative and financial freedom??
I've been cutting my own hair for years. I find it comes out less choppy if you section it into smaller ponytails first. After cutting, I work on evening it out. Then I take super small scissors and do little vertical cuts to blend it more. Usually after washing and drying, there's a few pieces I have to fix. Then I'm all good for the next 6-8 weeks.
Thanks for the tips!
Love it! I like the choppy back too, gives it volume. Going to try it on my hair now. Glad I watched.
Thank you! I hope you like how it turns out!
Here is a little easy way I do with Self Cutting my hair:
- 1 --- Tie the hair in a pony tail.
Cheers!
Thanks for the tips! My hair is not that thick, but I can see how multiple ponytails would be useful for someone with thicker hair. :)
Super cute! I love how you are just “meh” about it all! Thats so me too! Cut looks great and it also looks great on you !
Haha " I'm not mad at it" she's so cute..and I love her hair!!
I just did this. And omg I look freaking bomb. You just saved me moneyyyyyyy.. a million of thanks.
AHHHHHH that's so cool! Few things feel as good as independence (and saving money.)
Your hair looks pretty good- I have cut my hair by putting my hair in a ponytail. It works very well! You did good!
Thanks! I’m glad you like your cut too!
This is the only video that actually feels realistic to me. Imma try it.
Just a real girl over here cutting her real hair. If I can do it, anyone can. I hope you like your results!
I'm impressed by how well the inital cut with the ponytails turned out!
Thank you! Maybe the key is having 10 day old hair... jk I think having the hair tight and tied as close to the hairline as possible helps a lot.
@@CocoShin came out so good! Posted pic on my FB! Thank you! Finally a sane dyi video! Yes you need to post a video of ponytail cuts gone wrong!🤣
This was such a cute presentation. Not easy to cut your own hair -- and I think you did a good job. I'm REALLY tempted!
Thank you! When you're ready the video will be here for you. 💖
This was the best simplified Bob cut! Mine grew out and I needed to redo it to have definition and volume. It did the trick ! Thank you for sharing!!!
I’ve always liked that longer in the front shorter in the back haircut I’ve always wanted a haircut like that
Thanks, it’s a pretty universally flattering cut!
Yeah I see what you mean it’s so stinkin cute
Doing it. Right now! Who else is whimsically chopping off their hair? Lol!
Lol I don't even want to imagine how much hair has been lost to whims! 😅
drunk haircut yeyyyyyz
Its big difference how you feel on this hot weather.Feeling fresh.

I want to but I’m nervous. My mum hates short hair even tho she used to have it and I’m slowly working up the courage to cut it the way I want. I’m not 100% sure how to do it yet but I’m working up to it! Hair grows back. Slowly. But hair grows back over time so it’s not a big deal, not permanent, only for a year or so…
First of all, I love your happy, funny, honest personality. And I love your videos. Keep doing what you’re doing!
This comment is the best!!! Thank you so much!
I followed the advice in your video and am so happy with my haircut. I'm also proud to be able to cut my own hair because I used to spend a lot of money on haircuts that I didn't love. This cut is just as good as anything I paid for, and it takes 5 minutes. Thank you Coco! You are so cool.
💖💖💖 Thank you so much for this sweet comment! This is exactly why I made this video and I'm really glad that you like it.
I did this cut with your video and it turned out great, ty.
I'm glad it worked for you!!
I had really long hair and just did this straight after watching the video, it's come out so well I really love it! Thank you! 😁
Lol wow you are so brave to have long hair and then to cut it this short with this method.
I'm too chicken. Good for you
This video was exactly what I was looking for to cut my own long bob with layers, at home.
Yeah, I could really use one of those!
Hi!! I tried way to cut my hair, and it worked perfectly!!! The cut was kind of irregular but my hair is curly so it look so cool. Thank you from Mexico!!
Yayyyy that is so awesome! Personally, I love the look of a sightly irregular cut on wavy/curly hair. I bet you are rocking it!
Nov 10 2020 sitting outside looking at vids, angry at my hair. Medium short like yours. Stomped off into the house, hair into elastic, got barber scissors out and in a nanosecond had a perfectly great bob, not even needed wedging in front. I LOVE YOU. 🤩
This is one of the best comments I've gotten on this video! Way to go!
Currently, my hair is a bit longer than shoulder length - and I'm absolutely bored of it. It's too messy and ugly and frizzy in the wrong places. I'm now decided to cut it like the first half of your video so please wish me luck 🙏🏻
My Mum will be so mad.
💀 That last part... Try the haircut! Have you looked into the curly girl method? A lot of people who think they have frizzy hair actually have wavy/curly hair that, when treated in just the right way, is completely stunning. Just a thought!
@@CocoShin well yes mine is a bit wavy, but I'm lowkey afraid I'll resemble a potato if I try the cut so.. I'm not so sure anymore😂
No meu 60 anos nunca fez o corte de cabelo tal perfeito.obrigada valeu 👍🏿 parabéns 👏🏿👏🏿
I cut mine, but I put about 8 small ponytails in, then cut under the band. Then I cleaned it up just using scissors and a couple of mirrors. It's getting a smidge long again, so I am going to try your method. Thanks for posting!
I hope it turns out well! Good luck!
This is super cute and looks too easy. I do wish you would have shown the back of your hair a little more after you styled it. I may try this. I did the unicorn cut before with meh results.
many times have cut my own hair since I was young, I think you did well, it looks sharp and styled.
Thanks so much!! Have you done a lot of different kinds of cuts?
Thank you for this video my daughter begged me for a bob haircut and this did it shes in love with it now
Yay!! That's so cool!
This is exactly the video that I’ve been looking for. I tested it on my hair and it looks amazing. Thanks for your video! 😊🙏
This is brilliant! I tried it and I literally haven't felt this cute in years!!!
:) Thanks! I seriously won't have a reason to ever pay for a haircut again, unless I insist on trying pixie cuts again.
Ahhhh that's amazing! It's great to take the scissors into our own hands, huh?
Best video I've seen.Short and shows things that may happen to us in real live.Loved the results.
I'm so glad you like it. Real life was definitely happening to me lol.
This is the funniest DIY video I've seen!
Lol I'm glad you liked it!
Best diy haircut video...and i saw like ... 50 !
❤
Thank you so much. Honestly, I thought really hard about this and watched many tutorials before making this video. I hadn’t seen a really good bob tutorial before I made this one and I’m really glad it has helped so many people.
I just cut my hair using your method and I like it a lot!!
That's awesome!! 💖😁💖
Thank you for this tutorial. I had long hair halfway down my back and I just got sick of trying to deal with it so I used this video and this technique to cut my hair. My hair is naturally curly so, it turned out great.
That's awesome! I bet your curly hair looks really pretty and cute short!
I'm going to try this tonight. I have always loved getting my hair done with the bob style. If I can do it on my own, that's a plus..lol
Please tell me you really tried it! How did it turn out?
I’m gonna try it tonight. How did yours turn out??
Hello! Not a bad haircut! I like it, alot. It's cute. Yes, I do cut my hair at home.
Surprisingly good! and very cute.
Would have liked to have seen it from all angles after blowdrying and again after styling x
I cut my own hair why pay someone to screw it up when you can do it yourself but it always comes out really cute ! You did a good job it looks so cute
Haha so true! Thank you! ❤️
Grazie 😘
Lol, Girl I’m fixing to go to my bathroom and do the same thing! Yours came out super cute!
Haha thank you! Good luck!
Even though you did a horrible job cutting a ponytail LOL! It came out very nice. I been wanting to try this, I’m building up the courage. Thanks for showing it styled, I would have been very disappointed if you didn’t show that.
Thanks so much for this easy video. I watched this one and two others. This video was the best and I went for it. So glad I did! It's super cute!
I am.gonna try doing ur way!! Great video
Thanks for the video. I've been trimming my long hair like this for ages, but I use two bobbles and move the bottom one down to the length I want to cut ✂️it to - works a treat. I've now cut my hair to a short bob, so thanks for showing us how 😊
Congrats on the new do! I hope you like it as much as you like your old cut!
Your hair turned out super cute! I love it.
Thank you! 😁
It came out super cute! I really love that purple too! 😍
Thank you 💜
i was at work one early morning and i scroll through my youtube and i cut my hair at work... lol
Omg you actually did it at work?? I love that. How did it turn out?
I tried his out. Cut off 6-7 inches of my hair using your ponytail method. The back ended up really choppy but the front was perfect.
That's quite a bit of length! I'm sure you look awesome. ❤
I would have liked to have seen the back of you hair after washing and styling it. Looks great.
I like it! Super cute. I've been cutting my own hair for years now and I'm good with how it turns out👍
It’s so funny when that tiny hair was pointing out 😂🤦♀️but the result in the end was stunning 😍💕
Lol yeah that was so random! Thanks for the compliment!
I cut my hair because i need a new looks for the new year
and your channel really help me a lot.. it was fun to see u cut your hair .
Yay! I love helping people! Thank you so much.
You are real and funny! I loved it!
Aw, this young lady is absolutely charming.
Thank you ! This is perfect ! I have a super over grown bob and need hair cut so badly, but have no idea how to cut my own hair .
Good luck! I hope it turns out well. 😁
Same here!
Have you cut it?
I’m convinced to cut mine now. Thank you! Adorable!
Hope you like your cut! Remember to put the ponytail very low!
I’m thinking about doing this today...
Did you try it? How did it turn out?
I have been cutting my own bob for the last 10 years. Having my hair wet & using 3 mirrors helps a lot.
Looks great! I have been cutting my own hair! I just divide it and put it over my shoulders! I have good scissors! My hair is longer than yours! I may give the shorter style a go! I trim my fringe too! I also colour it myself!
This was super and I did the same with blunt scissors...exactly what I wanted in 10...Thank You 🌹🙏🏼
That's amazing!!! Isn't it empowering to be able to do it yourself?
I cut my own hair now to and it feels and looks better! Healthier 👍
Yes! Love that!
I like the length - and you cut it in one go ..... Super fast no fuss?? This is what I need to do .❤
I love how you professionally put on a smock, and then proceeded with the chop chop with the kitchen scissors :)
Love my new haircut!! Thanks Coco!!
Your so cute! Good job! I’m a barber and it is hard to cut your own hair but ya did good! For your first time! I think upfront just following right underyour jaw line would be perfect!
I did exactly this and I'm kind of alright with the results !
It's so great to be able to DIY!
Ok I’m off to cut my hair short. Near midnight here but looks so good it’s time
Oh, those midnight haircut urges... How did yours turn out?
@@CocoShin fab !! I’d done a cut of 3 inches the night before but noticed this was cut closer to the hair elastic and wow the shape is so much better. Looks like Iv been the hairdressers. I best stop watching now as I see next step is a shaved head hahahaha
