I read The Heaven And Earth Grocery Store, and it had me upset on some parts. I have to say, it was a good read!
I'm sure the author wanted to reveal the racism, hypocrisy, and abuse at the State Hospital, which are all real. The era circa 1936 played a factor in the influx of immigrants to America. You must read the author's background to understand some of his viewpoints as well. I was absolutely upset at some parts of the book as well, and yes, this was a very good read!
The Twelve Tribes of Hattie is a great read. The storyline will definitely stick with you. I’m just learning about her newest novel, The Unsettled. Another good one is She’s come undone, by Wally Lamb.❤
Thank you Keeba, I’m glad you enjoyed The Twelve Tribes of Hattie. I’m looking forward to reading The Unsettled. I’ll definitely check out your recommendation of She’s Come Undone. Thanks for watching! 😊
A book I suggest because I read it and loved it , A Quilt of Souls by Phyllis Biffle :- It's her memoir
Here is what it's about
At age four, Phyllis Biffle Elmore was plucked off her front porch in Detroit and dropped on her grandmother Lula Horn’s doorstep in rural Alabama. Phyllis felt utterly abandoned until Grandma Lula showed her both all-encompassing love and her intricate “Quilts of Souls.” Phyllis listened intently as Lula told epic stories of folks who had passed on as she turned their clothing into breathtaking quilts for their families.
Grandma Lula’s generosity of spirit, strong will, and creative soul animate every page and through the quilts, she paints portraits of extraordinary Black women born before and after the Civil War. They are enslaved people, laundresses, storytellers, healers, and quilters whose stories have gone untold until now.
Beautifully written and brilliantly told, Phyllis weaves back and forth through time, piecing together true tales of racism, sexism, and colorism, but also strength and pride, creating a multigenerational patchwork honoring her family and ancestors. From the lush visuals to the powerful history, Quilt of Souls is oral tradition written and preserved for posterity.
Thank you…this memoir sounds perfect for me. Thank you for the recommendation. I’ll be looking into it! ♥️
@DonnasBookAddiction6689 more than welcome hun
Hey Donna! The event sounds like a lot of fun! I’m glad the sun came out for it. :) I have been dying to try Ayana Mathis’ writing. I have The Unsettled on my TBR, but I’m adding her short story collection now too! The Door of No Return is good, but a sad read. Looks like the next book in the series is due out soon. I just picked up Alexander’s memoir and am really looking forward to reading it soon as well. Sink is also a tough read, but I felt like it was a different perspective and I really appreciated that. :) Eye On The Struggle is going on the TBR. Will is a really good memoir. I haven’t read Worthy yet, but would like. Ooh House of Stone is gorgeous and sounds really interesting. Adding another book to the TBR. I read Wahala last year I think. It was a fun enough read, but I wasn’t thrilled with the ending. Heaven & Earth Grocery Store is so good! I read it a couple of months back and expect it will be in my top reads for the year. Adding The Three Mothers to the TBR. Fantastic haul!

I’m looking forward to reading it. :) I’m working on catching up on watching videos and comments, so I’ll be checking out more of your videos soon.
