American humour = a pie in the face. British humour = intellectual language play.
You're half way there. American humor definitely has a lot of slapstick, but there's also a lot on social themes. British humour is very heavy on wit and irony. but it also loves to break taboos and is often very self-effacing.
That's why I like British TV so much more than American! In the UK, it's almost like it's cool to be smart, whereas where I live...

While we're on the typical of 'America.' America = North America and South America. So, the USA is named incorrectly, it should be the 'United States of North America.' Canada is no better, the name comes from misinterpretation of an Indigious language meaning, "Village." So, the second largest country, but the largest village in the world! 😊
